Since 1951, the Lafayette Symphony has been committed to enhancing the cultural vibrancy of our community by fostering creativity, engaging the public, and inspiring a love of music through live symphonic performances and educational outreach.
History
Established in 1951.
Originally formed in 1950 by a group of volunteer musiciand and music enthusiasts, the LSO presented its first performance in January of 1951. Over the course of time, the LSO has become the cultural standard-bearer in the Lafayette community. We now boast a 24 member Board of Directors, full-time Executive Director and administrative staff, a full-time professional conductor, and en ensemble of as many as 80 paid musicians.
Meet the Manager
Sara M.
Manager
A native of Lafayette, Indiana and longtime participant in the arts, Sara Mummey joined the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra (LSO) as Operations Manager in 2011 and was selected through a competitive national search to assume the role of Executive Director in April 2012. In this role, she oversees the operations of the LSO and works collaboratively with the Board of Directors, Lafayette Symphony Foundation, volunteer groups, staff, and musicians. Her community service affiliations include the Public Relations & Marketing committee of Tippy Connect Young Professionals, PWC 20/30, CRAC, and Quality of Life Council, She is also a graduate of Leadership Lafayette class 40 and earned a Certificate in Fundraising Management from IU. A classically trained musician, Mummey studied cello and voice at DePauw University, earning a Bachelor of Musical Arts. She continues to be an active performer with local theatre companies and enjoys the rich and vibrant cultural scene of the Greater Lafayette area.
