Lamorinda Optometry

Lamorinda Optometry is amazing! The staff is so friendly and helpful and Dr. Orr. is great with kids! Having 3 of his own, he totally gets how a child might feel nervous or uncomfortable getting their eyes examined. He is so good though about relating complex information to a level my 7-​year old totally gets. My kids think he’s awesome! For children or adults, I wouldn’t go anywhere else but Lamorinda Optometry.

I’ve still been coming here every year since my original review, and still loving it. Several years ago, I switched to Dr. Orr (I don’t remember why — probably a scheduling issue) and have gone to him ever since. Dr. Orr is pretty great! He’s very personable and does excellent work with my prescription. It’s always a very pleasant experience.

Always receive good, wise care. Always presented options I hadn’t even considered myself.

My entire family sees Dr. Orr — we all give him 5 stars as he’s amazing, incredibly thorough and always takes the time to explain everything he’s doing and encourages questions.
This review is particularly for the outstanding treatment my husband has gotten because unfortunately he had had some more «exotic» eye complications over the last year+ due to broader health issues. If I could give Dr. Orr 10 stars I would because each time there was an issue, Dr. Orr went above and beyond to make sure my husband got the care and attention he needed. For our first «issue» episode, Dr. Orr made sure that my husband could frequently re-​check in to review progress. He made it easy for my husband’s schedule and Dr. Orr has a vibrant practice so I know it took some scheduling expertise by his very lovely staff. For our last round of major issues, Dr. Orr saw him immediately (twice) and even reviewed tests on his day off. But what was most critical to my husband’s care was that he listened to my husband when he said something was «off» even though his eyes were healthy and got him a same-​day appt with a very respected Ophthalmologist who discovered a significant issue.
I think this drives home what makes Dr. Orr such an exceptional doctor, he listens to his patients and also has tremendous expertise to know how to address a range of issues. Bonus, he’s incredibly nice, personable and very warm — which can be lacking in the medical community! We could not be more pleased with his care and even if we move out of the area, I know we will stay with his practice.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Baker for over five years and love the level of detail and care of every visit. I recently saw Dr. Orr for a contact lens fitting and was just as pleased.
While I haven’t purchased eye wear recently, Zernel is one of the best opticians I’ve worked with. She won’t let you walk away if you aren’t happy. Plus, if you like Lindberg frames they have an excellent selection in store.

I wish I could give these folks 6 stars. I’m aware that some reviews may sound a bit lofty, however, when I say that Lamorinda Optometry changed my life, I really mean it. They have been my optometry of choice for almost 30 years and every time I go they get better and better. For medical reasons my eyes are difficult to fit, and they get tired at the end of the day, making it difficult to engage in my favorite pastime, reading.
At my most recent visit, Dr. Baker did his usual splendid work of measuring me for a new prescription, and then he continued to work his magic taking into account how my health had changed my eyesight.
Then I went out to see Kyle to be fitted for new frames. Kyle has been devoted to finding me the roundest frames for years. He never gives up. This is the third or fourth pair he’s fitted me for, and, yes, he just gets better and better, too. He adjusted the shading, the tint, the type of progressive lens and showed me frames that he knew I would love. I did.
But all that’s just fluff. What’s important is that for the first time in over a year, I’m able to really read again. clearly.
I’m absolutely sure that everyone at Lamorinda Optometry is just as wonderful as Dr. Baker and Kyle, but these two guys have my vote for the best customer service ever.

Dr. Orr’s attention to detail is amazing. If you want a personable optometrist who knows his business A-​Z, go see him.

I was interested in having a pair of Rudy Project sunglasses fitted with my prescription. I wanted progressive, polarized, transition lenses. After having the prescription improperly filled through VSP at another optometrist (they were unable to provide all three features I wanted — settled for progressive polarized — and uncurved the frame to get the prescription to work so they no longer fit), I chose Lamorinda Optometry because they are a Rudy Project Dealer close to my home and had high ratings on Unilocal!The office was immaculate, the staff was friendly and efficient and appointments ran on time. The optician that primarily helped me, Zernel Hilton, took each of my concerns seriously. Happily, the Rudy Project lab was able to provide progressive, polarized, transition lenses for my frames. When the glasses came back, I noticed that the right lens was off. Zernel was on vacation, but her colleague assisted me with the same diligence and courtesy as she had. He tested the lens but could not find a defect. However, to eliminate any possible source of error, Dr. Orr asked that I come in for a complimentary eye exam (Thank you Dr. Orr!) to verify my prescription was accurate — which it was. Ultimately, Zernel returned the lens to Rudy Project where their sophisticated equipment was able to detect that the lens was slightly off. They replaced it promptly. When I received the glasses, I was more than pleased with the final product. Zernel was not. She felt that the right lens was a bit too small and should be remade to fit more snugly. She sent it back for replacement. I would have never noticed. When the new lens returned, we were both happy.
These individuals are pros that are truly concerned with patient satisfaction. In my opinion, they all provided exceptional service the likes of which I’ve not found previously. I highly recommend them and will return.

Got a pair of Rudy project sunglasses for active sports. Kyle walked me through all the options; great service. Glasses are perfect, just what I needed. This is a good store for a range of glasses.

I saw Dr Orr today as a new patient and w as so impressed! The staff was so efficient and professional! Dr Orr Asked lots of questions and seemed very interested. I had come from a different office that was so different, I had no idea how a well run office could be. I can’t say enough good things.

My wife and I have been patronizing Lamorinda Optometry for 15 years. The service has been uniformly and consistently excellent. Both Dr. Baker and Dr. Orr are highly skilled. Top to bottom and across the board, everyone is highly professional, courteous and friendly. We would not go elsewhere.

I was noticing changes in my corrected vision and was needing to see an optometrist for my annual screening. I was not interested in returning to the previous practice I had been to in Walnut Creek, so I thought I would give Lamorinda Optometry a try.
From the moment I arrived, it was obvious to me I had found my new eye doctor! The level of service by the entire staff was quick and efficient, and the battery of tests they performed was the most I had ever experienced. The quality of their instruments is impressive.
Dr. Orr did a great job evaluating my concerns about my vision. He took his time, provided me three options, and explained his recommendation for a new type of contact lens. I am using them now and must say his suggestion was spot-on…they are fantastic!
I am extremely happy to have found Lamorinda Optometry and would highly recommend them!

I found Dr. Orr very thorough and explained everything very well. I am bringing my kids to him later this month.
The prices are expensive, but that’s to be expected. I think their selection is the best among the small doctors’ offices around town.
I have found some optometrists’ offices in Lamorinda don’t open until 10am and won’t see patients until 10:30am. I got a much earlier appointment and was able to get to preschool pick-​up on time.
Oh, they don’t take American Express. They should.

Dr. Orr and his staff were extremely friendly, professional, and saw me in a timely manner. Dr. Orr took carefully explained all my options for vision care and was very receptive to any thoughts or concerns I might have. I highly recommend Lamorinda Optometry.

Been here for two annual checkups, including replacement of two pairs of lenses+frames after the first visit, and replacing non-​prescription sunglasses with prescription ones. Been very happy with the entire staff — receptionists, assistants, Dr Orr, and the opticians.
The cost is typical Bay Area pricy, but they took my vision insurance (VSP) which helps soften the blow, and either way I felt I got my money’s worth.

Pretty nice. Always been friendly service here, and Dr Orr is pretty amazing.
I have special glasses, and they were at pains to ensure I came back every couple of months to have them adjusted, and also contact them if there were any problems at all with my vision.
New glasses are still expensive though, even with good insurance.

I will first off say that this review is not for the optometrists, Dr. Orr is great and I would recommend him. What I would NOT recommend is purchasing anything from
this place. The prices are absurd, you can find significantly cheaper prices literally anywhere else. After getting an obscene pricing quote for some new lenses, I decided to go to Orinda Optometry Group and they said my lenses were FREE. I have VSP (vision insurance) and Lafayette Optometry said my VSP didn’t cover things that it actually did cover, in fact it COVERED IT ALL. Had I been an idiot and not gone somewhere else, I would have been out $ 300+ for something that was $ 0. Also, I needed to get fit for astigmatism contacts and the pricing quote that Lafayette gave me was over $ 100 more than orinda, and the monthly boxes of contacts are also considerably higher there. All in all, I recommend Dr. Orr, but I would take your purchasing business elsewhere unless you’re wanting to get lied to (maybe it was an error, but I can’t fathom how when I had used my VSP there in the past and they had the accurate info). If you have money to waste then who cares.

I’ve been going to Lamorinda Optometry for 30 years.
Everyone is friendly, efficient and their prescriptions are ACCURATE, ACCURATE, ACCURATE!
I stress the doctors’ skills because I once went to a different optometrist when I was in college. The prescription from that office was just plain wrong and getting credited for the useless glasses was very difficult.
My lens prescriptions from Lamorinda have always been accurate and my eyes have not had health issues.
