Murphy McKay & Associates Inc

Been working with Andrew at Murphy McKay for the past couple of years now. Each time I have an IT problem he resolves it quickly. He is also friendly.

I’m writing this review as a current employee for Murphy, McKay, & Associates. I’ve been working for this company for about eight months already, and I really enjoy how flexible and fun projects can get.
In addition to picking up on some really valuable IT hardware skills, you really learn the ins-​and-​outs of proper documentation, clean workstations and organized cable management, and how to setup computers efficiently and effectively.
I can’t say who MMA’s clients are exactly due to non-​disclosure reasons, but I know many of them trust the brand in Lafayette. I would trust them too. The managers and staff at MMA, while inundated with many requests, nevertheless manage to keep up with you and make you feel important.
PROS
+ Good work and good pay ($ 15/​hr) for relocation technicians. Your gas is covered for projects of a certain distance.
+ You get to visit tech campuses. (SOMETIMES — free food and drink)
+ Work with your schedule. Projects go on the weekends and might just be a good way for you to make a little pocket money.
+ Learn some technical IT skills. You can move on up within the company and gain management experience too, though it’s probably not for everyone.
CONS
— Sometimes gigs go at least 8 hours (but you’ll get overtime). There are ungodly hours to some projects, and a lot of downtime where you might be doing nothing but waiting.
CONSIDERATIONS
I hear some people complain, but I think it helps to have a positive attitude and a sense of humor in the field. It is a bit demanding physically — you have to crouch to get under tables and manage cables, wires, etc. but I actually consider it pretty fun.
Just respect your project managers and everything ends up winning.

Nobody I’ve worked with compares to Murphy Mckay. My previous company had horrible IT support, but every experience I have had with Murphy Mckay has been splendid.

I see now why they are cold calling like maniacs in deseperation. Their service is loudsy with no reassurances to the customer who know nothing about computer network set ups as described by the first reviewer to write about them. I would not hire them if I only had 1 computer to 100 computers to set up shop for sure. I think I am better off blindfolding myself and hire the Geek Squad from Best Buy.

My small (4 computer) company hired MM&A to handle our move accross town in Oakland. First, MM&A has a 10 computer minimum, so they charged us their minimum fee of $ 350.That was still far better than another quote we got, so we went ahead and hired them.
MM&A’s service guarantee reads as follows: «We guarantee that all your relocated users will have their desktop fully functional (able to see and use internet, printer and network) with a layout that conforms to your specification by the time commitment (date & time) specified in our agreement with you.»
Two days before our scheduled move, one of MM&A’s reps (the guy we’d been in contact with for at least 2 weeks) called us and basically said that they were not responsible for ensuring our computers were functional once we were moved. They were just going to pack them up, move them and call it a day. HOLD ON! What’s your performance guarantee for? Doesn’t it say «We guarantee that all your relocated users will have their desktop fully functional (able to see and use internet, printer and network)»? After much back and forth with the MM&A guy he more or less tells us that his company is used to working with «bigger» companies, that he doing us a favor by agreeing to move our piddly little company (notwithstanding the fact that we are paying them and actually paying for 10 computers), but he’ll send someone out to make sure the computers work.
The day before the move, a guy comes out and is supposed to pack up all the computer and printer stuff, bag it, tag it and make it so the person who comes to unpack will just have to follow their lead by the stickers. This guy just takes all the cords and wraps them in a giant ball and tosses them in a bag for each computer.
The day of our «re-​install» another guy comes and cannot figure out how to reconfigure everything since the other guy didn’t label anything. Finally, this guy figures it out, after a LOOOOOOOOONG time! Despite the fact that the contract also says they will «reconnect the systems & neatly dress all the cables» I’m staring at a jumble of cables all over underneath my desk.
All in all, I could (and should) have done this myself. I don’t know why the hell I wasted my $ 350 to have someone argue with me, do a sloppy job and not even do the job completely. Maybe it was because we were too small… I would LOVE to see these guys handle a large company. Probably running around like a chicken with their heads cut off.
