Reliable Exterminators, located in Lafayette, Ind., offers pest control and termite services. We serve Attica, Crawfordsville, Delphi, Frankfort, Greencastle, Logansport, Monticello and Rensselaer. Out experts treat such pests as termites, bed bugs, carpenter ants, fleas, spiders, rodents, roaches; and do real estate inspections. We also offer pest control services to eliminate roaches, centipedes, millipedes, silverfish, earwigs, pillbugs and crickets. Our services also include placement and maintenance of rodent bait stations. The company s winter service includes treatment of crawl spaces and a visual inspection for termites. Reliable Exterminators offers various packages, such as basic home care, home care plus and home care deluxe to control pests year round.

History

Established in 1936.

In 1936, Purdue University’s innovative Urban Pest Control program yielded a handful of well educated graduates, one of which was Charles Partlow. Sensing a need for a locally owned pest control company, Charles and his wife Gertrude formed Reliable Exterminating Company, later renamed Reliable Exterminators, Inc. With a humble beginning, the business soon outgrew their home office.

In 1982, 50 year old Jim Hanstra (current owner and Charles’ nephew) died of a sudden heart attack. His wife Phyllis and son Bob, now owners of Reliable, had one day to decide whether to sell or keep the company.

After 40 years of service, Phyllis retired and welcomed granddaughter Andrea Patrie as her replacement, the 4^th generation of local family ownership at Reliable Exterminators. In honor of the 75^th anniversary of being in business, Reliable had its first open house celebration on Saturday afternoon, April 2, 2011 to congratulate Phyllis, meet customers and friends and introduce Andrea.

Business Owner

Bob continues the Reliable Exterminators legacy by insisting upon quality, low cost service to Tippecanoe County and the surrounding 13 counties. Originally started by Bob’s great uncle Charlie and passed down to his father until his untimely death in 1975, Bob and his mother decided to continue the business and have kept it up for 80 years (in 2016). Now Bob, his daughter, and son-​in-​law are running and managing the business.
