These days there are electric bike shops sprouting up all over but for many years there was only one place. Electric Cyclery. Kevin’s been in business for a long time and he knows Electric Bikes inside and out. I’m a disabled vet and I bought my first EBike from Kevin almost 10 years ago. In that time he was always happy to help if there was any sort of problem or question. When the battery from my first generation BionX finally conked out I checked out all the other ebike shops that had sprung up in that time but when it came time to lay down the cash I ended up back at Electric Cyclery. There’s no junk and no hard sell. Just a dedicated guy selling products he believes in.

We have two electric bikes from Electric Cyclery. We love them. We are grandparents and we hook trail a bikes to the back for our grandkids. I had not rode bikes in years and I am back out there. My husband had some issues with the first one we bought but the owner was very supportive and resolved the issue. We are big fans.

Baffled by some of the negative reviews, I’ve had nothing but great experiences with owner Kevin and his shop. I have not purchased a bike from him, but I have spent many hundreds of $ on parts/accessories. His parts/accessories selection is very good and reasonably priced for a brick and mortar store. They are always great at allowing test rides on bikes. I plan on outfitting one of my current bikes with an electric conversion and Kevin has been great at giving good advice. Selection/pricing on electric bikes are best in South OC! Highly recommend!

I bought a bike from the owner of Electric Cyclery in 2009, Kevin was supportive at the time. Today, I called in and he says to bad your outta luck. If his tone and voice were pleasant I would not be writing this review. He was one of the worst people who owns their own businesses that I have ever worked with. Do not spend your money unless you want to be treated poorly after the SALE(given that it has been sometime) no one deserves to be treated that way! Additionally, although I called in the morning get an answering service I just wanted to get your hours of service. Poor Poor Poor Customer Service!!!

I met Kevin from the Electric Cyclery the first time 6 months ago and many time since. He has greatly impressed me as a responsible business owner with strong commitment to customer service and support. When it comes to electric bicycles Kevin is THE expert; not only is he very knowledgeable about these high tech products but he is also extremely well documented on his website which seems always to be ajour. I purchased different products from his store and now am considering an electric booster for my recumbent bicycle which Kevin said he could easily retrofit(and I have seen many of them at his store). What I really like is that he does not try to sell me what suites him but what seems best for my need. Observing how Kevin treats his clients makes me feel very comfortable making a larger purchasing decision at his store instead of buying it online and save a few bucks.

In so many words, I am glad I purchased my bike here rather than the countless other options along Coast Highway. It is a relatively small shop, yet it offers great service with convenient hours and a personable owner. Bikes can be a bit expensive, but they are absolutely top of the line, with a long warranty on the battery. All in all, good choice to buy a bike.

Nothing beats local! The BionX purchased there in 2011 stopped assistance after a year. The sensor in the motor got broken. The wheel had to be sent back to Canada for repairs but was returned cleaned but without actually being repaired. In the end it had to be replaced with a new one. I guess it would have been great pain in the rear if I had to deal with BionX directly myself. And there are a few complaints on the net about the way BionX treats their customers… While this back and forth with BionX was going on Kevin offered me a temporary replacement wheel until the new wheel arrived.

After the key to my BionX system snapped in half, I looked for a place from which I could order a replacement. The first one I found was Electric Cyclery, so I placed an order with them. I was promised delivery within two weeks of ordering; nearly four months later I still have not received the key. I understand that there are occasionally delays in processing an order, but the owners of Electric Cyclery(whoever they are) have chosen to ignore me completely. I get no response by email, and no answer when I phone them. Since I live in Washington State, it isn’t possible to stop by the store to check in on my order status. I don’t know how these people are about in-person customer service, but if you are looking to order something from them and you do not live in the Laguna Beach area, I strongly recommend going with another vendor.

Didn’t actually go there for an electric bike. but I did stop in since I was riding through town and my mountain bike broke. They fixed my bike at a reasonable cost and had plenty of neat accessories to check out while I waited. Ended up getting a rad helmet and some tubes too.

I saddens me that I have to downgrade the Electric Cyclery’s rating. Ever since I purchase my electric bike here. I never receive the type of customer service care from Kevin anymore. During my research phase, I wanted to purchase my electric bike from a store locally and establish relationship with them. During my initial few phone calls, Kevin was a bit slow on returning my calls but I never expect just a disappearing act from Kevin. Once I gave Kevin my credit card to make my purchase, everything started to go down hill from here. It all started when I placed an order for an extra battery charger so I can extend my riding distance. It has been more than 9 months and still no call back from the store about the status of my special order. The only time I get any type of status is when I have to initiate the call myself. I also understand that being an early adopter on new technology will also bare limited supplies but 9 months from a major manufacture from Sanyo? I am not buying the blame game from the store’s sorry excuse. Had I known this is going to be the type of service I would expect. I would be more than happy to take my money to another bike store to purchase my bike with caring and sincere customer service. Seems like I am not the only customer with this sorry ass service from Kevin. Unilocaler Laurent R. also has problem with Kevin as well. So be warn if you plan to make a major purchase at this store.

Here’s the deal. I’m really upset because a good friend of mine bought an awesome yet over-priced electric bike here because of the professional service he expected from Kevin. He could have saved 400 bucks and just bought it on-line but he really liked Kevin, wanted to establish a relationship with an actually shop and wanted to support local business. Now my friend’s bike was stolen and called Kevin to ask him for a copy of the serial number for the police report. First of all Kevin is difficult to reach, but when he did finally reach Kevin he said, «No problem it’s on file… I’ll email it to you in few minutes.» Hours went by and no email and Kevin wouldn’t answer the phone. Finally at the end of the day Kevin picks-up the phone and says, «Sorry I spaced… But no problem I’ll sent it now.» He sends over basically a blank receipt with no serial number. My friend has to call and call until Kevin decides to pick-up again and says, «Oh you want the serial number… Yeah sorry buddy we don’t keep those file.» I’m gonna save $ 400 bucks and buy my awesome electric bike online where they have proper records.

Great bike shop! I agree with the other review — the owner, Kevin, is a wealth of information and very helpful. This is a great place to check out and test drive Bike Friday Folding Bikes. Kevin has a lot of experience with them as well as the better Dahons — so it will be an education. I highly recommend.
