Stand Up Paddle Company

Anyone know what happened to this business? They seem to have vanished in the dead of night. Store empty, website down.

I want to start by saying I will never be back. My friend and I rented boards on Labor day and were super excited. The guys at the shop gave us the boards without any prior warning of how choppy the beach was that day. It was right after that hurricane swell came in. I knew I would be fine, but they never once asked us if we were comfortable, let alone let us know how big the waves were. We brought the boards down to the beach and after ten minutes of trying to figure out how to paddle out (which they provided no guidance on) we brought the boards back up and determined it would be really rough (hence why no other paddle boarders were out.) We brought the boards back, literally 15 minutes later and they would not refund our money. I am incredibly disappointed. No credit for a later time, no full credit. Just awful. I will never be back and will not be recommending this place to anyone.

First time stand up paddle boarders and had a great experience. Store cashier was a newbie, but eager and helpful. Took lessons and David was a blast! Expert, helpful, great guide. I would go back any time.

I just called and was told the Stand Up Paddle Company is out of business. The number now belongs to a deli. Good to know.

We love Stand Up Paddle! We have 3 boards from there and tons of other stuff. The owner is really nice and gave us a great deal. They have a great selection and know their stuff! I love my mermaid board especially!

Had the worst experience in this store.
My boyfriend and I went here looking for lessons and the only employee in the store was on a personal phone call so we walked around looking at boards for a while. When we finally walked up to the counter, he walked away to continue his call. When he finally acknowledged us, still on his call, he finally said «uh, do you have a question?». We said «not anymore and go back to your call» and left.
I had used this company a couple of years ago and was really happy. I am sorry that we will not be using them again!

Hands down the best service and staff around. They are knowledgeable and friendly. They have fantastic deals and excellent rentals. Since walking in the door the first time I haven’t gone anywhere else.

I’ve rented from Supco once before and had a good experience. The location is very good as its an easy haul down to Oak St. Beach. The boards are in good condition.
But today I came in to rent boards they told me that boards were due back in 20 minutes. When 3 boards came back I was waiting there but then they told me that they might need them for lessons. I waited another 15 minutes while they told me they would figure it out. Meanwhile when people can in for lessons (which are significantly more money) they told me that I couldn’t have the boards I would have to wait. They pretty much ignored me in the store. I was irritated with that policy and lack of communication.
I left and went down the street to Costa Azul who had board for a little cheaper, also good condition and really nice people. Its a little more haul down to the water. It was easy to enter the ocean there.
Lastly, I see no reason that most people would need more than a brief few minutes to tell where to stand on the board, how to hold the paddle, how to enter and exit the water. I think a 5 minute free video in the store would do it. The lessons seem a big moneymaker at $ 90/​hr.

My friend and I purchased a Groupon here a few months ago before we knew it was ocean paddleboarding. We didn’t know what we were in for, but it was one of the most amazing, fun California experiences I’ve had since moving here 1 year ago!
We went early (10:30) on Sunday morning and were greeted by friendly staff. We had to pay an extra $ 25 (for two of us) for a one-​hour lesson which was okay and well worth it in the end because we were pretty beginner despite paddleboarding before in Back Bay.
We had Eddie who was awesome, patient, so super friendly and made us feel both at ease. When our hour was up, we didn’t want to go back in! We could have hung out there in the waves all afternoon.
We saw sea lions and sand sharks which was another unique and amazing part of our experience. I’d recommend this place as somewhere for everyone’s Bucket List! We will definitely be back!!!

2. easy beach access, but it’ll take some muscle power to haul the paddle boards down to the beach, but no biggie
3. friendly staff! everyone is so nice, including the paddle board instructor we met in the water, he even gave us instructions and cheered us on
4. great groupon deal, so keep your eyes peeled for those deals or else the regular rental fee can get pretty expensive :(
highly recommended to kill few hours with intense workout at laguna beach! :)

Awesome place. I bought my SUP here a few weeks ago and then bought another for my husband. The staff are fantastic and very knowledgeable. James took care of us. We even booked a lesson but couldn’t make it because of traffic and we did not get charge despite of a short notice. High quality products. Most of their clothing are made in the US. I love my paddle board and so did my husband.

Went paddling again over the weekend. This time the whole SUPCO experience was purrfect! Their staff was super nice & helpful, we got our rental after some waiting period but it was totally expected on a hot Saturday. We paddled comfortably, swam and sunbathed on our boards, watched schools of fish pass us by and chased some seals away while maneuvering through the kelp forest. I wish the boards are cheaper — I am hooked on paddleboarding!

My mom and I got a Living Social deal for an hour lesson. We are both ocean swimmers but first time SUPers. Eddy was super fun and had us up on the first try! I was a little shaky at first but with his encouragement I was coasting along enjoying the beautiful view. Saw lots of fish, got sun, and a fun workout! My arms will be sore. but I will totally do it again!

Purchased a Groupon for $ 25.00 for a 3 hour rental. We booked it for this past Saturday at noon and when we got there they informed us that you can’t rent unless you’ve either already done paddleboarding on the ocean OR have had a one hour lesson with one of their people.
I’ve paddleboarded before but my friend hadn’t so we opted for the lesson and they hooked us up since the Groupon fails to clearly mention that you need a lesson… so they only charged us $ 25.00 total (for two people) for the one hour lesson and then we got two hours after the lesson on our own out in the water.
I cannot for the life of me remember our instructor’s name but he was awesome. There was another instructor who had a group of five or six girls who went out at the same time as us and our instructor just had my friend and I.
After our one hour lesson we paddled in, grabbed a couple joints from the car and paddled back out on our own. Then we just laid on our boards in the sun, got a little high, paddled out a little further, got a little more high and just soaked up the amazing experience.
Until I buy my own paddleboard which I FULLY intend on doing after this experience, I will definitely return here for rentals.
If you don’t know what you’re doing, definitely opt for the lesson… I ended up wiping out when I was coming back in the second time anyway, but I think the lesson helps to avoid that… I just happened to be on a Snoop Dog level so there was no way around it.

Do yourself a favor and go to SUP Co! They’re reopening soon to a new location right next to the old business. The clothes are cool, the boards are amazing (I love the one I got for valentine’s day last year) and the best part, you’re paddleboarding in Laguna Beach! Chances are you’ll see dolphins, sea lions and if you’re lucky a whale. Don’t be intimidated… it’s worth every penny of the incredible experience and workout you’ll get out of it AND it’s suprisingly easy to learn. I highly recommend SUP Co!

This is a total Gem and we are lucky to have them in Laguna Beach. My boyfriend and I have become avid SUP’ers. :)
The team in the store are awesome. They are some of the most friendly and helpful people around. Talk about being knowledgeable about what you offer in your store and loving what you sell. You can tell they LOVE working there and love SUP. How can you not!
If you’re looking for an amazing work out or just need «something fun» to do this weekend. I say don’t walk but RUN to SUP and get yourself out on the ocean.

Here’s the scenario:
Friends come over from Germany. They are SUP fanatics. Gotta find a good place to take them. Google that sh*t. Find a good website. Make a phone call. Go.
An hour later, we were in Laguna. We SUPed. We conquered. My body hurts and I’m burnt but that was awesome.
Here’s why you should go:
1. The location is great. I would have never thought to go paddling in Laguna but it is a perfect spot.
2. The water in Laguna is clear and clean. You’re paddling out into the open ocean so it has a different feel than paddling in a harbor.
3. The prices are reasonable.
$ 30 for 1 hour
$ 49 for 3 hours
$ 69 to have the board all day
4. Everyone that works there is super cool. They will even help you carry your board down to the sand. (Thank you Mr. Tattoo man, you were the nicest.)
5. The website is helpful and well designed. It’s easy to find out about pricing and lessons if you need it.
So to the Stand Up Paddle Co., if you’re reading this, I want to say thank you. You guys saved my ass. We had a great time. And now I’m the cool American friend. Xo, Sar

This place is awesome! The staff are super friendly and helpful. And its only a quick walk from store to the beach so you don’t have to lug that board and paddle far. Definitely going back!

Tried Paddleboarding or SUP, through a voucher on Living Social.
Josh was my Boyfriend’s and I’s instructor and was very patient and knowledgeable about SUP. He says he has been boarding for 5 years.
When we first started I had to admit I was a bit nervous, but when Josh narrated step-​by-​step what we would be doing on land first, I felt confident.
We were pretty far out into the ocean but once I was able to see the coast and all my fellow SUP’ers with other instructors I had the most amazing time.
Even our exit from the ocean was very smooth as Josh helped me get back to land safely by narrating what to do every step of the way.
I have never surfed and I was able to fully stand up and paddle board across the water for the whole hour with like two or three falls.
So for all the first timers, just know that the instructors know what they are doing as you’ll see everyone on the water having a great time while providing safety tips and measures.

I went paddle boarding a few times in Marina del Rey, but it doesn’t compare to the experience I just had in Laguna Beach with Josh! Being out on the open water was an amazing feeling and there was a lot to see on the beach and in the water. I recommend taking a few lessons to learn how to get in and out of the surf safely. Josh was a patient instructor and shared some great paddling tips.
TIP: Just east of S Coast Hwy there are some residential streets with no parking meters. After the lesson I was starving and it was nice to just wash up at the shop and walk down the street for lunch without having to worry about the car.
