Sepulveda Building Materials

George W. rocks… pun intended! These guys were very helpful and funny! A yard of heavy building material can be intimidating even to a cowgirl, but everything was very organized and safe.

I’ve seen the way employees get treated here. I’ve seen how poor customer service can be. I’ve noticed how extremely unorganized and out dated their system is. They have an awesome selection of stone, brick, rock, etc. Their turnover rate for employees is amazing ha ha. Maybe it wouldn’t be that way if their HR department listened to what was addresed by staff and needs to be changed. Good luck Sepulveda. Good luck.

They get a 2 ONLY because they had the widest selection of pebbles/​gravel I’ve seen so far. Originally saw their selection online and decided it was worth the 30+ mile drive, one way.
They have the system were you stand in one line and are helped by the next available person. That didn’t happen with us. We were at the front of the line and just as someone behind the counter became available on the far end, a customer swooped in ahead of us. Maybe they had a previous conversation and the customer was told he didn’t have to stand in line. If that were the case it would have been nice if we were at least acknowledged and assured we’d be helped soon. I will say, the employee and customer were very chummy-​chummy.
Another man came behind the counter to assist us – 50-​ish, average height/​weight, glasses, facial hair – didn’t smile, barely made eye contact, and answered one of our questions with a head shake only. It was at the end of the day – but really, too tired to even speak?
They didn’t have exactly what we wanted – but after searching and searching, maybe no one does. I hope we don’t have to buy from them, the customer service leaves MUCH to be desired.
UPDATE: I originally gave them a 3-​star rating, and decided to change it. The bad C/​S is still leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Had a similar experience as another person with getting my windshield cracked by some stones flying off of their trucks on the freeway. I tried to get the attention of the driver but it was obvious that he wasn’t going to pull over. Called them-​up and they blew me off. Sent a letter to their corporate offices and didn’t even receive the courtesy of a reply. Should have took them to small claims court, but it would cost me more money in lost work time than it was worth. I’d hate to think what it would be like to order a load of rock from these guys. I’m sure if they damaged something in the process that I’d get the same run around. So, even though they’re in the neighborhood, I’d never buy anything from a company that doesn’t take responsibility for its actions.

They don’t have the popular interlocking pavers, and the short man with facial hair acted offended when we asked where to find them. He sent us to the wrong area. He was also rude to the customers who dared to ask a question before us. We’ll buy our materials elsewhere rather than deal with him again.

Hard to get the staff attention. I made it easy by ordering at the front desk asking for exactly what I got last time. They took my money and set a delivery date and then never bothered to show. They didn’t tell us they couldn’t make the delivery. They had three days notice. No notice, just no show and no response to a phone call. Apparently 3000 lbs of rock for $ 1100 isn’t worth them even bothering to respond. We took time off from work to do this project and have no materials and will have to work through the credit card company to get our money back. You’d need rocks in your head to do business with these people.
Update: Heard back from Sepulveda the next day. The staff person who took the order put it in for April rather than March. They delivered that very day. However, the voicemail left by the salesperson who screwed it up made it sound like he didn’t cause the error. So some points for fixing the situation, but they should drop the attitude towards the customers when it was a Sepulveda employee’s fault in the first place. Upgrade from 1 star to 2.

I read some of the reviews regarding poor customer service. I completely disagree. If you are clear on what you want to do, these folks will bend over backwards to help. Luis and George are especially helpful and creative. The delivery personnel are super, as well.

They really do have a great selection, but unfortunately, the guys that work behind the counter are just rude asses. I’ve been there three times now, and it’s been the same each time. Perhaps I’m not buying enough for them to be interested in being polite, but I suspect they’re just jerks. The last time I was in the guy behind the counter that was supposed to be helping just kind of faded away, so I asked a guy nearby working on the shelves a question and he just said he was trying to work, leave him alone. I guess if I was a 50 year old stock boy I’d be grumpy too. What a bunch of losers, I’m never going back.

Worst customer service ever. Nobody seems to know or care about any materials here. It is impossible to get a quote out of anyone, let alone a call back. Avoid this place if you can.

The basalt fountains here are a really good deal, especially if you can get contractors pricing. For something that would cost me over 1000 elsewhere, the granite fountain (over 800 pounds) for around $ 600. Plus they are running a special until the end of the year. (See pic)

Needed large lava rock 3−5″ for the fire pit rebuild — they had what was needed at a good price. Service around back was excellent too. For those posting that pricing is too high — not sure if they are talking about this place, I had found for the quality and selection they are very competitive. Highly recommend for those lookin for anything stone/​rock for the yard.

Their prices are high, I first went to Home Depot and could not find what I needed, (turns out I was looking in the wrong part of the store) I found it here. While at the counter (after 5 minutes with no one in front of me), I asked about the return policy as I had a relatively small job. I was told 25% restocking, well okay I will suck that up.
They get 2 stars cause the guys who load your stuff are good.
Customer Service is horrible. I had about 25 blocks left over and wanted to return them, after the counter guy check them out, he called the manager who said they don’t have time to count 25 blocks for a return. He then spent 25 minutes telling me that it would take too long, I didn’t have the heart to tell him it could have done 3 times while we argued about it! I informed him I had asked before my purchase about refunds, he points out that in the fine print on the back of my receipt they don’t have to take returns. It was $ 50 and I had lost enough time so I left.
It dawned on me later, why did they do the inspection if they don’t take returns? I don’t like that kind of some guys get returns, some guys don’t policy.
Home Depot, that is my place from now on, less service folk, but 200% more friendly and honest and I have never had a problem with returns.

Doing a backyard project and needed Rocks. They have a large selection of sizes and colors of rocks. Home Depot and Lowes selection doesn’t even compare and prices are similar or less.

I went in today to get help with some ideas for rock and gravel to add to my new yard. Kevin and the other employee I worked with were both VERY helpful. Kevin was very patient with me and let me know what all my options were, and even showing me how I might be able to save some money! Great customer service and what a fantastic selection!!! Thank you for a great experience. Will be coming back again and again.

For one, their prices are a bit high and if you look around there are better places available with better pricing.
Customer Service is lame.
Furthermore, return policy for stocked items is horrific. If you purchase a stocked item and return it unopened they hold 25%. This is to discourage returns and it has because I’ll never purchase from them again. Because of this policy i found Cougar Stone andI ended up purchasing about $ 10K of stone fromt hem instead: same stone and cheaper!

This place is a good go to when in a bind because it’s close. Their prices are always high. You have to wait an extended time in the yard for materials. The worst part about this place is I am charged a different price every time I go in. I have had this happen multiple times just going back for more of the same materials.

Love, love, love this place! When I first came to Sepulveda I had no idea I would save so much money on my back yard project materials! If you buy rocks or DG at Home Depot you are spending 3x’s the amount that you will here on those items.

Customer Service is horrible. 3 employees behind the counter. 1 with a client 1 walked away and 1 sitting. A couple of clients looking at displays. I approached but no acknowledgement and had to call his attention and asked for cement boards seemed confused and asked what I need them for. I explained and he says what we have are hardibackers. (Ok, they are the same one). He said they are outside pointed towards the back. I went and saw they had both cement board and the Hardi.
I went back in to get a quote. 1 still with a client, guy I spoke to was fixing displays then started walking away with another employee (4^th) saying to the busy employee if he needed help they would be in the back and to call.
They all saw me standing in front of the counter. So stood there a while and no acknowledgement and no help.
I decided to leave and went to Home Depot where they greet you.

What a joke!!! Zero customer service! Told material is in stock. Went back the next day to purchase product and was told it is a week out. Completely through off our scheduled work. THEN TO TOP IT OFF THEY CALL A DAY BEFORE IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE READY FOR PICK UP AND LEFT A MESSEAGE TELLING US IT IS ANOTHER WEEK OUT. WOW!
It is very obvious this company has lost it’s direction.
Do not plan your schedule around these clowns!

First class org from the top all the way down the the gopher porters. Had a very beneficial, productive consulting with on of their front line clerks, and even had great service from the porter in the back picking up the stone.
I think his name was Pepito or something. even offered to cut my fire mantle stone multiple times without a fuss.
Great place, nice selection, friendly people and very competitive prices — waay better than Thompson Building Materials in all facets.
