Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club – Molokai, Maui & Lanai Towers

Stayed here in 2006 with my parents as my graduation present. My first time at this hotel, second time on Maui. The rooms were okay, not classified as a resort so very few amenities. The best part about this Marriott is their super pool. If you haven’t been to a super pool, you will be amazed, its so beautiful you just want to stare at it. The waterfall is aaaaamazing !!!
The water slide is a lot of fun. If you want to decompress, relax and stay at a nice quiet hotel, this is definitely the place to stay. Prices have gone up a lot so book in advance. Have also stayed next door at their new property. Both properties are timeshares so don’t expect lavish restaurants or any extra amenities.

We’ve stayed at a few Marriott Vacation Clubs and were very satisfied with this resort. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Would’ve given 5 stars except most of the units (Maui, Lanai and Molokai towers) don’t have a kitchen or washing machines/​dryer and self-​parking was far away (the closer lot is always full)! I will say this though — the communal kitchen usually had space to cook and the communal laundry machines were free (and located in a room with a/​c and a comfortable couch). Staff were friendly for the most part and the various resort activities kept my kids interested. Would definitely stay here again!!!

Will write full review later, this is just because of the gym. Spent thousands of dollars on nice ass equipment, but not basic rack with a 45 lb bar, no plates, nothing. So no squats, dead lifts etc for anyone… Why bother building a gym with an entire room dedicated to 50 treadmills and you don’t even buy a basic rack or a cage? Stupid…

Sadly, after coming to this resort for almost 20 years, we have watched it decline. The resort needs some major updating — the couches/​furniture were not very clean and also not comfortable. The cabinets in the kitchenette are old as well and the resort is looking dirty. They desperately need to purchase new, high quality mattresses.
In addition, management and front desk staff are not nearly as friendly or attentive to guests as they were a decade ago. They need better training or maybe it’s just Marriott’s new method of management?
However their recreational staff Maureen, Johnny and Robert are the best! They treat their guests with «old school» quality service. They are longtime employees.,
The best thing they have going is their location, but first check out the other resorts along the beach like Hyatt, etc., before choosing Marriott Ocean Club Maui. We have been loyal Marriott customers for 35 years, but our last stay April 2016 at this resort was way below our expectations.

We have stayed in many different properties both on Maui, as well as every other Hawaiian island. The Marriott Maui Ocean Club is a good value, with Marriott-​quality rooms in a great location, at a reasonable price. Would be 4-​stars overall except for aggressive pool security.
I give kudos to Tom, the pool security guy that we saw most of the time. His job is primarily to make sure that guests aren’t artificially hogging pool chairs by leaving towels and walking away. This is a great idea because it ensures that pool chairs are always available for people actually using them. He did a great job of enforcing two chairs held per guest, and guests needing to physically be present in the pool area at least every hour or so to hold their chairs. He was friendly, firm, and everybody seemed to follow the rules without complaint.
My complaint is about the security folks when Tom had his days off. One day they came and aggressively harassed us for having friends at the pool. We had friends from the Hyatt next door join us for a couple hours to hang out one day, and security kept quoting their policy that the pool was «only for hotel guests staying overnight.» This policy is lose-​lose for everybody involved. I understand why they have it, and it’s useful to keep non-​guests from abusing the pool. But it’s a terrible policy when you’re excluding friends of guests. This is a time share where Marriott spends a huge amount of dollars and energy to bring people to the property in order to sell them on why they should stay and buy there. We have brought you two potential customers FOR FREE, have vouched for them as our friends several times, and you want to kick them out?
Our party of 14 people registered as staying overnight at the Marriott included two club owner families and two renting families, paying for four units for the week. We cumulatively spent over $ 20k in rental fees, food and beverage that week. Per Marriott’s own policy, we are allowed to hold up to 28 chairs at a time without any complaint. On the day in question, it was rainy, windy and cold, so half the pool chairs were empty and nobody was in the pool. Our friends never got in the pool, all they did was occupy two chairs and spend money at the Marriott bar. As a business, it is insane to not welcome them. The security even went so far as to repeatedly radio the front desk to verify each of our names and that we were actually staying there, even when a dozen pool staff could easily verify that we had been there every day that week.
I can’t see any reason why we would ever stay at the Marriott Ocean Club again, given the tons of other equal or better choices literally in the exact same location. As just one example, the Hyatt Residence literally next door is newer, better appointed, better facilities, has a better pool, and has the best waterslide on the entire Kaanapali strip.

After being a long time owner at the Maui Ocean club. I have decided to dump or rent this location. Reason 1. Pretty sad you have to be up and down to the pool area by 6:20 to try and get a location in the shade for my daughter that is disabled. 2. They don’t care about the owners all they care about at this location is profit. 3. Like I have said earlier we have been a long time owner and have seen this location get worse and worse with their rudeness and attitude to the owners. We have in our profile a high floor room with an ocean and pool view however as we are checking in we are told sorry we are at 100% capacity and thus your room will be on the Second floor of a 9 story building which is a garden view room not ocean view. So we talk to the manager and are told sorry they are sold out and many people are staying longer or booked before you so you get what you get. 4 they get you to go to their timeshare presentation and all you get out of there sales department is lies and deception… I wish I could take stars away from this location

Having stayed in many hotels all over HI, we really enjoyed our most recent stay at Marriott. We booked a 1 bedroom suite with kitchenette, living room and 2 full bathrooms. The room was spacious and very comfortable. It was nice to open up the 2 balconies and just soak in the fresh air and ocean views. Housekeeping and service at the resort was impeccable. The property grounds were very well maintained. We thoroughly enjoyed the direct beach access and the enormous pool area with 2 water slides. The little keiki really loved the kiddie pool area with the pirate ship. Serious hours were spent here because of this.
We rented a car and the valet service was $ 19/​nite (this was only $ 2 more per day than the less convenient onsite self-​park). With the car, we ate most of our meals out. For those late pool days, we did eat dinner in the hotel. The cost for items like burgers and fish tacos was definitely not cheap, but at least it was actually pretty satisfying.
Other nice perks included the onsite Starbucks and complimentary DVDNow rentals. When the lil one crashed early for the night, it was nice to catch up on movies not even out yet on NetFlix. We were able to watch Straight Outta Compton and The Martian.
In summary, our sole complaint was that our stay went by too quickly! We will definitely plan to stay at Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club again.

Gaylord, Gaylord, Gaylord. What a gem of an employee you have in him. He has been there since we started going sixteen years ago, and he always wants to make sure everyone is having a great time. Our family is always so happy to see him every time we go back. Another consistent employee that always takes care of us is Jim, and I will never forget the kindness he showed to my elderly mother several years ago when she came with us to Maui. Anyway, we absolutely LOVE it there and can’t wait to come back again in July. My favorite words in the English language are «Welcome Home» which we only hear annually upon arrival at MOC.

If I could give zero stars I would. TERRIBLE service. The staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. Instead of calmly trying to help us resolve a problem they acted like complete jerks and causes a scene in front of other guests. Almost makes us want to ban the Marriott brand completely.

Marriott Rewards members … beware! You get what you pay for at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club. After three consistent stays, I’ve concluded this property treats you like you’re off the street … no room upgrade, no late checkout, nothing. If you want a late checkout, pay for another night. If you want a room upgrade, reserve the Ocean View when you book. Don’t expect any perks regardless of your status level and years of loyalty in the program. While other Marriott properties in the Hawaiian Islands are great about accommodating special requests, this property has strictly baseline offerings for its guests. You get what you pay for.

My wife and I stayed in the Molokai tower #3006 a week ago and were not disappointed. The view was nice with the pool area below, the ocean to the right, and the mountain to the left. Ocean view was definitely worth the extra money. The room was clean and the lobby area was pretty with waterfalls and trees. We loved the pool area and the dining options both there and along the walk. The beach is slightly narrower here than down by Westin or Sheraton, but that’s the lay of the land and not the resort’s issue. Friendly staff that didn’t hassle us at all. Great experience and would gladly return!

The rooms and hotel are good and the service was fine too. Starbucks on premises. Pool is great too. The beach is very roacky and very short beach. The pool at the Hyatt is better (next door). For good beach access you can walk up the beach path to Westin. Ocean is less rocky.

Our 2 bedroom suite is perfect and could hold 10 but just 3 of us. 3 full bathrooms, kitchenette and 3 balconies. Décor is calm, loads of towels, great view from ⁷¹⁰¹⁄₇₁₀₀. Would stay again in a minute. LOVE that security (Tom) manages the ‘saved’ chairs and removes towels after 1 hour when the inconsiderate go away for a long nap. Tons of chairs, pools and of course the ocean steps away

Loved our experiences with Kipe (who runs the Hawaiian language class, the hula class, the coconut demonstration, etc.) He is absolutely a wealth of knowledge about Hawaiian culture and has made our travels around Hawaii more meaningful by giving us a few tidbits of info about the islands and the people.
Also really enjoyed the sunrise yoga with Tawny and the stargazing with Becky.
The hotel itself is very nice and staff is super accommodating for simple needs. Comfortable rooms, helpful staff, and great views. It’s well situated in Kaanapali and it seems to attract a good mix of families and couples. Not as nice as the Hyatt next door, but it’s good value for the price we paid (and you can check out the Hyatt’s menagerie without staying there anyway!)

This place is only interested in servicing their owners. If your a points owner, they can screw with your reservations at will. We paid, in points, for an ocean front condo and upon arrival they put us in one of the rooms connected to the condo, which isn’t ocean front. They said they can do that because the deed for the whole unit is a ocean front property, even though the room we are in is not. They know this at the time they are booking but they act as if it is truly what you are getting. When outing this practice at the resort, which isn’t part of the reservation company (so they don’t call them and straighten out anything) they say they understand and admit that it is a practice of deception. They offered to move us to the accommodations 3 days into our 7 day stay. They can’t give you your points back or satisfy the wrongful treatment in any other way. Noting that they have other ocean front units available, but not for our category of ownership. WTF is that supposed to mean? When they spent all that time selling me into this program of ownership they must have forgot to mention that I’m only a third class owner who can be victimized freely by the very system that I support with my money.
This is a really frustrating vacation that I’ve been waiting to enjoy for two years. Thank you Marriot. You suck.

The first thing you think is «yaaaaaay, this place has a kitchen!!» But then you realize that your husband will expect you to cook lunches and dinners. Your joy fades, and you end up eating out anyway. The kitchen is great for mornings when you have kids and are too lazy to leave early with two high maintenance children, who’s only plan is to wreck your vacation and make sure that you DO NOT make them another sibling. You will LOVE the washer and dryer. That got more action than anybody.
This is not a luxury hotel… More like a private condo… I’ve stayed a lot of places all over the world (you’re probably thinking «look at her brag» you’re right, I am)… This was really nice!

The Marriott Maui Ocean Club was a very nice resort.
Located in Ka’anapali (past Lahaina), it was quite the journey every day when playing in Kihei or Kahului.
Most of the Ka’anapali resorts are built so that you don’t ever need to leave the resort while you are on vacation. The MMOC (I’m too lazy to type Marriott Maui Ocean Club every time) is like this. For many people, their idea of a Hawaiian vacation is to check in, and not leave the premises until going home.
As the resort sits right on the ocean, this could be easy to do.
There are a few different pools for the whole family to enjoy. There are also a few restaurants (resort prices are in full effect here: pricey), but I would suggest actually going into town (Lahaina is closest) to find some local food and more reasonable offerings. It is almost sacrilegious to charge $ 17 for a loco moco.
For the coffee fiends there is an actual Starbucks poolside.
We were lucky to have an oceanfront room, in which the ground floor lanai opened up right to the path that led to the beach (maybe 25 yards at most).
The rooms are spotless and there was nothing to complain about. It’s almost scary to think about being on a tropical island, yet not seeing one bug anywhere near the room. I’m afraid to see how often and what is sprayed to deter them.
Parking is expensive, but that is the case for just about every other hotel nowadays.
One really cool thing that I saw was near the hotel entrance and lobby was a box for donating food to the local food basket. There are tons of people daily who probably check out and have extra unopened food and have to go home. What equals throwing it away at most other places, is now put to great use here. I applaud MMOC for that.
Another great thing I saw was a luggage scale near the entrance. Another simple yet brilliant detail. How many times have you seen people at the airport sitting on the ground delaying lines from moving at the ticket counter, because their bags are overweight and they need to pull something out.
The free scale is great, and everyone who has iffy bags should definitely check it on the way out.
All in all, the MMOC was really good. If I was in the mood to just relax and not go around the island much, I would stay here. If I wanted to venture around, I would look for a more centrally located area.

One of my two most favorite resorts in the world. You can spend more, but this has the best of pretty much everything all in one place. Perfect weather, nice beaches, things to do… Great rooms, great service, and for our family the best memories!

Beautiful and large resort, exquisitely located on the beach. The landscaping is so well done and so well-​tended it prompted a change to our landscape renovation plans back home.
We stayed in two different towers during our 8 night stay. For the first 5 nights we were in a 1-​BR villa with a full kitchen, with an oceanfront view in the Lanai tower. Sadly the closest pool to us was closed for renovations but we were told this in advance. I suspect they chose this time of year because of fewer hotel guests. As a child-​free couple we enjoyed the relative lack of small ones present in mid September. I would not come here when school is out because the place would be overrun with kids. (There is something about a pool that causes children to shout.)
The 1-​BR villa was perfect — my only complaint was a teeny balcony. It barely fit a round table and 4 chairs. But there’s nothing to be done about that now. Other Marriott timeshares we’ve stayed in had larger balconies.
Mid-​week we moved to a 1-​BR suite in the older wing (Molokai). It had 2 balconies and 2 bathrooms on account of this building having been converted from a hotel. The kitchenette is not terribly conducive to extensive meal prep, although there is a large communal kitchen in the building which we didn’t use.
In sum this is a beautiful mellow property with many spots to sunbathe and enjoy the scenery. We will be back!

Ahhhh I don’t know what to give this place! Our stay here was fabulous because we were staying in a 3 bedroom, 3 balcony, 3 bathroom ocean view penthouse suite!
I’m not sure if its because I live in Vegas and am spoiled by some of the best hotels in the world, but something about this place… I really think this place is only worth 3.5 stars. I don’t really like the way their parking is set up, and the check-​in time is 4p. m…which in my opinion is really late. The hotels in Kaanapali/​Maui just look dated!
