Hidden dive bar in Lahaina. Went in for a shot and a beer and walked out with a shirt.

This bar was really great. We went 3 times and had a great time every time. EXCEPT on our last visit. We arrived a little late, respectfully asked if last call had been served.
The bartender (not Johnny or Rob) lost it, he followed me and my husband for two blocks; screaming, swearing and trying to fight us. All we asked was if it was last call. I would’ve recommended this bar to anyone, but after being viciously harassed by the bartender I can’t recommend. If all it takes is a polite inquiry to cause the bartender to chase us for two blocks… well it was disappointing. If the bartender of a bar is willing to follow you and scream at young couples to fight him; you might want to find another place.
Props to Johnny and Rob, I hope the last bartender is never seen again.
Hate to give a 1 star, but seriously… we’re here to vacation and have fun. We go to bars often, we understand last call, we don’t need to be attacked and intimidated by the staff.

Great place! Allen the bar keep was very nice along with all the locals and tourists very inviting. This place is kinda tucked away but don’t miss it. Happy hour at great prices, can’t beat it on Maui. they say it’s a dive bar but belive me it’s the kind you would like! Check it out you will not be disappointed.

Walk in the place, you can tell in 2 seconds if it’s for you or not. I love divey, unpretentious bars with good regulars so I loved it. Can’t wait to visit again.

Nice bartender, but a little too dark and divey for my taste.

Unbelievably bartender. When I would not give up my seat to stand for a regular I was told to leave in a very aggressive manner. I have never experienced something like this. My friend I was with was shocked as well. This is supposed to be a public place? Not the bartenders living room?!? The experience was actually frightening. Been to my fair share of dive bars and have seen bartenders with attitudes, usually adds to the ‘charm’. This was different. There was hate in this man. Find another dive bar unless you are a hopeless local alcoholic you don’t belong here.

First and foremost HUGE thank you to Kevin for making our night. He went out of his way to make our experience amazing and we truly appreciated his hospitality. We had a great time at this bar and we look forward to coming back. Make sure you ring the bell when you get there.

The best dive bar in Maui. Robert the bartender was cool and is a no nonsense kind of guy. Regulars are super chill and have some funny jokes. Come here to chill and embrace the dive bar experience.

Great Bar. Bartender was awesome and friendly. Next time I’m in Maui I’ll be here. Small, but it’s exactly what I was looking for. At a certain age a freindly neighborhood dive bar is just what the doctor ordered

Perfect dive bar, great people, and our bartender Kevin is the maaannn. He entertained my wife with his ball monogrammer, has a ridiculously interesting backstory, and made us feel welcome in a bar of mostly locals. We’ll definitely be back before we leave the island. Thanks Spol!

It was a lot of fun to hang with the locals on our recent trip to Maui. The bartender was very friendly, and made all kinds of interesting and unique drinks for us. He even gave us a sly mongoose bumper sticker!

SMALL… in the middle of an industrial center… we went on a sat night and there were only like 4 old guys sitting in there… beer was only in cans and not worth the time

We had such a good time there yesterday that we went back This time are bartender was Sonja. She was terrific. Got a little taste of the neighborhood which was comical. Highly recommend this place

My new husband and I came to Maui on our honeymoon. This was my favorite bar we went to! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming! We got 2 bumper stickers too! I’m from Texas and I love little «hole in the wall» bars like this one! Everyone was just like 1 big, happy family and I will definitely go back if I’m ever in this neck of the woods again! Yeehaw y’all!!!

A true locals bar. Came here for a quiet night out, and we wanted to see what nightlife was like in Laihana. Not much, but we did stumble upon the Sly Mongoose
Interesting place, Monty the bar tender was cool, gave us bumper stickers and made a good mai tai.
Kind of tucked away, but I guess thats what makes it a locals bar and not one for tourists to easily find.

The girlfriend and I went to Maui for 5 days. We needed a break from the stress of booking activities and worrying about what beach/​attraction to see next.
The Sly Mongoose was the perfect break. It is everything you want in a dive bar. Local and humorous company, dark atmosphere, extremely friendly and welcoming bartender, cold cans of beer.

Johnny. What a man. He really entertained my friends and me. This was by far my greatest bar experience on the island.

Been craving for a Mai Tai and found this place nearby the hotel we were staying at and with the good reviews, decided to stop by. Its a little tiny dive bar with mostly locals which was cool. Everyone was very nice and welcomed us. The bartender was very nice too with a good sense of humor and since its quite obvious we were tourist, he gave me my newby Sly sticker!
Compared to surrounding bars, not only are they much more expensive but may taste like a virgin drink which makes you wonder if they even put any alcohol in it. If I pay for it, I expect a good amount of alcohol. This place won’t cheat you on that and is definitely the place to be.
Downfall: They don’t serve food. I always like to snack on things while I have a few drinks with friends. Ok, maybe I like to eat a bunch of junk food while I drink with friends. So if you plan to stop by this place, go after dinner and simply hang out with drinks. (minus 1-​star).

I was searching for a place to hide out. Working on Maui is great, but when you’re managing a group of about 1,200 of your closest friends, sometimes you need to get away. Since our group was basically taking over the whole town, I knew we’d have to find something far enough away from the main tourist areas, but close enough to cab. Nestled in an industrial park, the Sly Mongoose was a perfect fit.
My coworker and I walked in one night, expecting to have a drink or two and be on our way. To our surprise, we walked into a bar full of some of the most friendly people we have ever met on the island. One of the regulars immediately offered up his seat at the bar so we could sit together. I was impressed.
No sooner had we ordered a couple of beers than a game of butt darts started. My coworker and I expected to be spectators while the regulars played but the next thing I knew, a quarter was being placed in my hand while I was being cheered on as the next contestant. It was hilarious, fun, and the entire bar was having a blast.
Shortly after, we struck up a conversation with the woman sitting next to us. She explained that this was a local bar, where lots of people come every day after work. Johnny, the bartender, joined in the conversation and said that he didn’t know why people call this place a dive, it’s just a great neighborhood bar where people come to relax and have fun. Sounds great to me! Everyone in there was really cool.
Being tourists, we never expected such a warm welcome. Next time I’m working in the neighborhood, this will be my bar too!
