Greg’s Lawn Mower & Small Engine Repair

They have had my lawnmower for over two weeks now. If you walked past my house you would swear no one lives here. This is the second time I have used them and I am disappointed again. Will not use them moving forward. Slow, poor customer service, and they do not deliver on promises. Stay away!

Based on my experience with Greg’s Lawnmower, the low reviews on Unilocal are very misleading. My experience with this company, and Greg the owner, has been a breath of fresh air. Let me explain. On Friday before Memorial Day at 4pm, I ran over a piece of metal with my Honda Lawnmower. Extreme vibration… Bent the crankshaft. Called a local Honda dealer. They said it was toast, they couldn’t fix it, and I would have to buy a new one (over $ 600). So I called Greg’s. He answered and said he thought they could fix it, and he would also wait till I could bring it in, even if after closing at 5:30. I said I didn’t want them to wait for me given the Holiday, and Greg said he would be there at 6am if I wanted to bring it in, in the morning. I did get there about 8:30. His service guys said it wasn’t fixable on their crankshaft machine (Toro based). Greg said he could machine the part with his extensive shop (it is impressive). 2 hours later I picked up a perfectly running Honda mower, blades sharpened, even washed. Greg called me 3 times to give me updates during that wait time. Service was excellent, price was very reasonable. He essentially fixed something that nobody else could, and did it with a smile. He even gave me tips on my snowblower maintenance when I was in the shop. I am so happy a place like this is in the area, to take care of all my motor tools.

I wish I had read the reviews before blindly calling Greg’s Lawn Mower repair when I saw their ad in the Green Oaks newsletter. Same disappointing experience described by other Unilocales. No business deservers the customer’s money with this level of customer service. I can’t question their repair services because I was not going to take an offer to repair a product that is as expensive or more than the product.
Here’s how my experience went:
Day 1
— Me: Hi, I live in the area and saw you ad. I need a small tractor repaired and serviced. Do you also repair snow blowers?
— Grumpy woman: Yes, what do you need?
— Me: Can you also pick them up?
— Grumpy woman: Yes
— When can you pick them up so I get an estimate?
— Grumpy woman: Tomorrow
— Me: Do you need my address?
— Grumpy woman: What is it?
— Me: It is…
— Grumpy woman: OK, we’ll pick them tomorrow, just leave them outside
Day 2
— My equipment outside under the rain all day, nobody shows up
Day 3
— Me: You said you would pick up my equipment, when will you?
— Grumpy woman: Tomorrow, sorry, our guy was sick
Day 4
— My equipment outside under the rain all day, nobody shows up.
— Me: (thinking) Forget it
Day 5
— I get a call at 8:00 —
— Greg: I am here to pick you equipment
— Me: I’ve been waiting and decided not to leave it outside again, it’s been under the rain for two days
— Greg: I will be here at 7:00 AM tomorrow
— Me: (thinking) Maybe they’re ok
The rest is too long to write but long story short, they want to charge the same or more of the cost of theequipment to repair it and then they try to force me to junk it so they can sell it. My only choice was to pay to pay $ 80 per equipment for the «quote», otherwise I would have spent close to $ 1,000 for equipment that new is $ 1,500.
After that I had a couple of quotes that were less than half for both the mower and blower with a person that actually helps with a smile.

My family has been using Greg for lawnmower and lawn care equipment maintenance and service since I was a kid (late-80’s I’d guess). Now that I have my own house and yard, I too use Greg for my needs. Greg is an honest and local small-​business owner who likes the business he is in. He provides dependable services and has always returned our equipment in tip top shape. He even gave us a loaner when he knew the necessary repairs would take time to bring parts in and have them installed. He will pick up riding mowers and return them to make the whole process a no-​hassle experience. I had recently dropped off a push mower for some service work and he delivered it back to me later that afternoon. I realize this isn’t the height of his season so that was possible but it is that touch that has made Greg’s Lawnmower a long standing name in the North Shore area. An honest small-​business operation that will have my business for years to come. Thank you Greg.

The negative reviews appear accurate. Poor customer service and poor communication. When a business has a full voicemail inbox unable to receive new messages, that seems less than optimal.
They were the only show in town for pick up/​drop off service for my riding mower, so I had to use them.
****Disclaimer…The work actually looks good and fair priced, but being kept in the loop about your repairs may not happen.****
Multiple times they would tell me they were picking up or dropping off my mower and when it would not happen, I had to call them to find out what changed, which was frustrating.
If they could improve this easily fixable (but very important) aspect of their company I believe everyone would benefit, especially because their work appears quality and well priced.

I have used Greg’s for many years to do annual work on my lawnmower and snow blower. Before they moved to the new location I have been satisfied with the work they have done. Recently I had a very poor experience and it has everything to do with the woman who answers the phone and deals with customers at the front desk. Whoever runs Greg’s needs to take this person aside and teach her about customer service. She needs to understand that your in a customer driven business and actually value my time and money I choose to spend. You just lost a long standing customer… and will let other know about the poor experience I received.

I have used Greg for many, many years. The convenience factor can’t be beat and the quality of his work is great. BUT… try and get a quote before any work is done, his rates are crazy high and if you don’t want a big surprise get a quote. full disclosure I recently had this issue and Greg made an adjustment but try to get a quote first!

Service was great! I dropped of a piano pedal part to be welded and they called to say it was ready. A little pricey for a small job but overall pleased.
