Sunset Automotive, Inc. is an independently family-​owned and operated automotive repair and towing business whose primary service is to deliver superior automotive services with a positive attitude and smile! It was established in 2001 after taking over another auto shop that went out of business in Waukegan. The business has grown drastically due to the great customer service, knowledgeable and experienced ASE technicians, and the affordable prices it offers to its customers.

Its loyal customer base is continually growing, which made it possible to recently open a second location in Lake Bluff, IL in 2013.

In addition to automotive repair Sunset Automotive offers 24-​hour towing and is also a licensed Used Motor Vehicles Dealer, a Licensed Vehicle Rebuilder, and a licensed Auto Parts Recycler.

Very professional and extremely reasonable prices. I have been coming to the Lake Bluff location for a year now and each time it has been a pleasant experience. I’ve had to bring my daughter with me on several occasions which is no problem since they have a nice, clean waiting area stocked with drinks, tv, and free wifi.

WE LOVE SUNSET AUTO! Chris is awesome. We have been taking all of our cars here for years. We get fantastic service and they go above and beyond to make sure we are happy. My husband had to drop off our Jeep yesterday for a repair and without hesitation they gave him a ride home. Today, when the Jeep was ready, they sent a van to pick him up. They also go over all the work they have done and let us know what else needs to be fixed. They are honest and trustworthy people. I cannot say enough about how much we appreciate having someone like this in the neighborhood! THANKS SUNSET AUTO!

This is a great place with a great staff. Chris will give you a fair price and will only fix what needs to be fixed. I had gone to another shop that told me I needed over a thousand dollars of work and Sunset fixed my car for less than 400 dollars. I can’t recommend them enough!

Outstanding service! I got there and within 5 mins they were already working on my car! I went to get my oil changed and they did an in depth inspection on my car. They noticed basic things that needed to be replaced due to normal wear and tear. Before they changed anything they showed me (without me even asking) what needed to be replace. Very knowledgable mechanics! I will definitely be going back for future service. Thanks Sunset Auto team!

I came here because Doug W. (who left a review here a month ago) recommended it to me. They are super duper nice people, so there’s definitely that service thing going here. Also I had to get new tires, and when I found the tire they recommended online for cheaper, they negotiated it down to pretty much matching it (I think I paid $ 10 more than if I had gone through the hassle of ordering it online to ship it over and etc., but I think it’s fair to pay a bit extra because they have to make a living too).

WARNING: From recommendations from friends and on Unilocal,I went to Sunset Tire & Auto in Lake Bluff for tire replacements of my husband’s BMW 335i Convertible. Had to leave the car there this past weekend, since Chris, the manager, told me that they were still awaiting delivery of the rear tires.
My husband picked up his car yesterday (paid over $ 800) and while driving it back home, he noticed things different about the car: heat was set at 83 degrees, all the mirrors were changed, gas tank was low (was full when dropped off), seat moved… no big deal, right? They usually drive the car out for a little bit to check all is well. Sure, we know that.
Well, my husband checked the mileage and compared it to the mileage logged on the paperwork when it was dropped off at Sunset Tire & Auto — over FIFTY miles were added! FIFTY! That’s almost a drive into the city and back! When my husband called, asking calmly how this could possibly happen, Chris gave the excuse that they had to drive it around to check alignment. But when asked why it was driven over FIFTY miles since the car was dropped off & why that just didn’t make sense, Chris HAD NOTHING TO SAY!!! My husband said he did not believe the excuses Chris had to offer and, yet, Chris STILL had nothing to say!
If you don’t want your car taken for a joyride, DO NOT TAKE IT TO SUNSET TIRE & AUTO in Lake Bluff!!!

Been here a few times now for repairs and an oil change. Can’t recommend this place enough. They have great service and are very thorough when they inspect your car for issues. The waiting room is clean and stocked with free water/​coffee.
They are honest and will show you exactly what’s wrong with your car. They also offer very competitive pricing.

When your tire starts squealing at you, it kinda makes you panic. I hate going to the mechanic. mainly because since we moved here I haven’t found an honest one. Today that was changed. I took my car in and brakes needed to be replaced. even though it’s not cheap the job was done and in a friendly manner. I paid and came home. While looking over the recept I noticed a billing issue so I called, not expecting anything, I just wanted to bring it to their attention. Maricela refunded me the issue quickly. I appreciated their honesty and greabyt business all day!

Unfortunately, In spite of best intent by owners my first service did not go perfectly. But, I was beyond impressed with the owners’ genuine care to ensure customer is well taken care of, and going out of their way to get it right — while I do regret that my experience wasn’t the greatest (on the mechanical end) it was definitely beyond superb on the customer service end. I have utmost faith that training was conducted on the mechanic and with the owners attitude this business is sure to improve and customers will be well taken care of… Again, in spite of hiccups encountered I would definitely do business with again — good genuine people — Thank you!

This place is junk and will take advantage of you.
I took my vehicle in to receive work on my brakes and was told I needed over $ 2500 worth of other repairs. Within 24 hours of receiving my vehicle back, my check engine light illuminated which I had no previous engine issues prior to my service here. When I took my car back, they said the code was for an O2 sensor and they were testing it. After waiting over an hour, I inquired about the wait and was told they were waiting for the sensor to arrive to install which I had not approved. I felt backed into a corner and told them to go ahead with replacing it.
When able, I took their estimate to my normal mechanic and he said only one of the items listed needed repaired and it cost $ 40.

Great car service with great customer care. I had an alternator, suspension work, and brakes done on my Mazda. Sunset kept me informed and got the job done in a timely manner. Lastly, it was awesome that my car didn’t smell like a shop when I got it back and didn’t have grease or oil on the steering wheel or anywhere else it wasn’t supposed to be.

Hands down the best place to get your car repaired by far. I have some serious trust issues with mechanics, but I feel very confident in Chris & his team. Super friendly & honest. This place is great. I just went in for an oil change but I was still given top notch service. I was greeted right away with a smile and my car was serviced quickly. I didn’t mind the wait since the waiting room had wifi, bottled water, and a tv.
When my car was ready, they didn’t try up charging me for a million things like most oil change places. They simply provided me with some recommendations and sent me on my way.
I’ll be back for sure and would definitely recommend this place!

I previously had my car towed by Sunset Tire & Auto and aside from great service on the phone from Maricela, they got my car towed quickly and made me feel better about an otherwise stressful situation.
More recently I decided to take my car in for an oil change and received the same great service. Chris was very knowledgeable and even taught me a couple things about my car. I had some concerns about my car, (some clunking noises) that they looked into for me. I felt very confident about putting my car in their hands and I was not disappointed. They price fairly and do great work. They got all my issues resolved and I had my car back quickly. I will definitely be bringing my car back for regular maintenance.

I have been in Customer Service for the last 10 years of my life, with that being said it takes a lot to get that WOW factor. From the minute that I walked into the shop, they greeted me with huge smiles! I went in for an oil change which was about 30 minutes and they were very thorough. I asked them to look at a few other problems, without hesitation they were happy to assist with a ‘safety inspection’ After that was done Eric came back to greet me and let me know of a few things. He was very honest and very knowledgeable. I also added to get my windshield wipers changed. They went the extra mile to scrape off residue that was left from one of those flyers under my wipers!
The waiting room had comfy chairs, bottle water and coffee and free WIFI.
One very silly side note… The shop SMELLS AMAZING! I know crazy. Right!!!
The customer service was EXCELLENT! Great, friendly and honest business. I will actually be returning next week to get brand new tires as well! THANK YOU SUNSET AUTOMOTIVE for being authentic and efficient!

Chris and staff are genuinly friendly. Today i brought my car in due to (what i call) an «idiot light» coming on, and they were able to not only diagnose what the problem was but they fixed it right then and there! When I recieved my invoice for the work that was performed today, in a different color ink were price quotes for additional work that my car will need in the future. What other mechanic would do that for you? My answer is this-​NONE! I dont know nor have been to ANY OTHER mechanic who would go above and beyond what Chris and staff have done for me today. OK, lets see if I can pu this review in the right place this time :) I didn’t know there were other local sites for this company. Fantastic service by Chris and the team, managed to find competative prices for the parts I needed in a ridiculously short period of time. Neat and tidy work, even had my car cleaned next door as part of the service.
Overall a hearty reccomendation from me
Always welcoming but not so happy with the last work done. Didn’t seem too interested in the job and took forever for a very simple task. Doubly sad that had to redo some of the work myself as not happy with the quality.
