Deer Path Inn

Enjoyed lunch in the English Room (Garden Room) today for the first time since the completion of the renovations. Absolutely stunning. Romantic, even at 12:00 in the afternoon. Food and service was impeccable (ordered French Onion Soup, Lobster Bisque, and two Chicken Clubs — Chocolate Marquise for dessert). Relaxing, welcoming atmosphere staffed by professionals. An absolutely delightful experience all the way around and one we will repeat over and over! Deer Path Inn and its staff has made it impossible to go anywhere else.
P. S. The ONLY suggestion I can make is to add a spoon or tong for the sugar cubes.

The staff. The service. The restaurants All. 5 star. I have never enjoyed myself more. Everyone was so friendly. My room was perfection. Clean fresh and all brand new. I could spend hours just in the amazing shower and to have a heated towel was an added plus. The free valet service. Solidified my perfect stay

Went to the bar downstairs on a busy friday night and EVERYTHING was 5 stars. Starting from the drinks, service and food. We had sushi & sashimi platter for 2, 2 glasses of wine 2 outstanding coctails, was just perfect. The décor is unique. Nobody would think that the serve 5 star sushi there but is a real deal, I think is only 2 times a week though.

Went for lunch today. The renovation of the entire hotel is total and beautifully done. Dined downstairs in the renovated grill area, beautifully done. The service, the food were equally well done. So happy to have a great new dining place in town! Was a frequent diner previously, what an improvement!
Went back for dinner, looking forward to another good meal. Ordered a Red Dragon Roll and Edemami. Usually the soy beans come out first. Both were served quickly, a little unusual. The soy beans were barely heated, some still cold. The roll was not good, I think it was already made up and it tasted tired out like grocery store sushi! The lady bar tender had an indifferent attitude and service happened upon request. I think they need two bar tenders, too many staff standing around in the next room. Plan to give the another try, the décor is great. Jennifer who tended bar here previously was fabulous! New everyone’s drink, was pouring it as you walked in, place set up at the bar, spot on service! Hope next meal is better!

Just had the most wonderful brunch there today. It is a gorgeous place with a wonderful view. The waitstaff is great and the brunch buffet was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back.

Love this hotel! Old world charm with updated amenities. The restaurant and pub are outstanding and the lobby living room is the perfect place to spend a cold and snowy Chicago afternoon.
This hotel is very romantic and perfect for a rehearsal dinner for a wedding party.

This hotel/​restaurant has recently been TOTALLY remodeled and they have done an outstanding job of bringing it up to date while still maintaining it’s old world charm. The patio off the dining room is stunning and the best place to dine. My favorite lunch menu item is the chicken milanese, which is delicious and filling but also has a light, refreshing salad served on top.

Love this place. Great «bar type» atmosphere but with outstanding food. They have a very diverse menu and the sushi couldn’t be better. The bartenders make a terrific martini. The only issue some people might have is its kind of loud.

Wow! We had our family wedding campaign brunch at this location. Service was excellent. Food was excellent and of great variety. Memories were made and this was the place to make it. My wife and I make time to eat here on Sundays whenever we are in town.

Stayed here for 3 nights for a friend’s wedding held onsite. The rooms are small and pretty worn and could use a good scrubbing, but it was pretty quiet and the bed was decent. The facilities for the wedding were good and we enjoyed dinner one night in the pub and had a good meal and a very nice time. The best things about the hotel are the excellent service and the pub. Can’t honestly say that I’ll stay here again, but with limited options in Lake Forest I wouldn’t rule it out.

We love the Deerpath Inn Pub. The setting is hiply old fashioned, if that makes sense. Try the lobster bisque. My husband loves the fish and I usually have a burger or salad. We’ve never had sushi there, but keep meaning to try it. It’s a great place for an upscale but casual experience.

We had a 50 person event at the Deerpath Inn. The staff did a very nice job, did everything to accommodate us and the food was good.

(Pub Restaurant) We had a plan to the evening. The plan was to head into town to enjoy a film and some laughs, but we didn’t make it past the local DPI pub. What should we do? One of us asked. Another responded brilliantly: nothing. As I was leaning back, I glanced around the room and realized the pub is just awesome. For dinner (after 4:30pm), skip the dining room and go straight to the pub in the basement. Old English charm with large red leather chairs, tons of character, a big fireplace and great dining.

I really enjoyed their delicious molten lava chocolate cake (that wasn’t overly sweet and it was so moist and so good) with a side of fresh vanilla ice cream, and another star for the hand towels in their bathroom with good-​smelling Gilchrist liquid soap. The side of baby carrots and green beans were good in their peppercorn sauce (that wasn’t overpowering), but some of the carrots weren’t cooked all the way through. The NY Prime steak was fine, and the potatoes themselves were okay. My mom had the Petite Filet Mignon, and she said that was marvelous, cooked well, and a perfect portion for her (it came with a side of mashed potatoes, the same veggies, and drizzled with mushroom sauce). My dad had the rack of lamb, and it didn’t taste too lamb-​ish; he enjoyed it, but it seemed to not be big enough of a portion. My sister had the Artichoke Ravioli, stuffed with goat cheese, covered in a tomato-​based sauce — this was okay, but it seemed as if there should be more sauce since it was quite dry. The bread came from their ‘bread table,’ with crushed peppercorns and an olive oil bottle. The inn itself is cute and like an old-​traditional-​English type of place with decorations and such. It was cute and cozy, but the food was just okay.

Popped in for drinks tonight with a colleague after work. We stayed in the bar area.
Disappointing beer list; more disappointing that none of it was on draught. I ordered a Tieton Apricot Cider, which was delivered to our table with a frosted mug and as an open bottle. The waiter didn’t even make a gesture to pour it for me. As a beer snob I am, by association, a glassware snob. At least serve your cider in an appropriate glass. That also applies to my co-worker’s Guinness, served in a can with the same mug (it was, at least, poured for him).
I did order the falafel appetizer, which was served with a quinoa salad. Good sized appetizer for only $ 9.00.
I’d go back for happy hour, but would likely get a cocktail and skip the skimpy beer list.

Love the Deerpath! Downstairs bar is a great place to grab a drink w the girls or even grab a meal w the kids. The sushi is great and a bit of a hidden secret. The champagne brunch in the main dining room is a great place for a special occasion and the staff is great. We also went for Thanksgiving this year and it was an elegant and easy alternative to the stress of preparing for a big day.

Ever hung out in Lake Forest? Me either. Deer Path Inn was pretty great, especially for a wedding reception venue. The mansion is nice, well decorated and spacious. There’s a lot of decorative touches that can add to your wedding décor and placement of band, DJ, photographer, etc.
The service was good and drinks were easy to obtain. The food was OK (don’t ever a veggie option at a wedding here) and the cake was yummy.
All in all, good reception venue. Spacious and a nice, large dance floor. Great outdoor patio for cocktails and/​or smoking. Parking aplenty and near hotels in the area, so convenient for travelers.

I used to love staying at the Deer Path Inn when I was working/​staying in the Deerfield area years ago. Usually I’d stay in one of the chain hotels that were close to the office, but on the occasions where they were all booked up, the Deer Path Inn was a great alternative although a little bit of a drive. I’ve probably stayed here about a half dozen times and it was always a treat — a great departure from the usual suburban dime-​a-​dozen chain hotel.
The Deer Path Inn is right in central Lake Forest in a quiet neighborhood. Although I’ve never experienced it myself, I’d always heard stories about how the cops in North Shore towns will keep an especially close eye on you if you show up in a car with out of state plates. Just something to keep in mind.
The décor of the place was really cool — kind of like something you’d find in the English countryside. The main dining area looked very elegant, but I only ever ate downstairs at the pub — very inviting and comfortable with great food.
The rooms were quiet and elegantly decorated. Room service was also available and cable TV was included. In short, despite the decidedly unique ‘old world’ feel of the place, all of the amenities for the business traveler were available.
I was only at the Deer Path Inn during the workweek, so I can’t comment on the qualitiy of the accomodations or events on weekends.
I’ve often thought over the years about returning to Deer Path Inn for one more visit just for old times’ sake — if it’s anything like I remember, it ought to be a great time.

Hubby and I have been here three times to have a drink and eat at the bar. It is a GREAT place to to that IF you can get a seat at the bar! The big issue is everyone just stays so long for drinks on Friday night.
The first time we went, the bartender was so great. She saw us waiting for a seat and made sure we could get the next open spots. We had a wonderful night. She made great drinks for us. I had the sushi and hubby had a burger. PERFECT! Just what we had in mind.
The next time we went, the same bartender was looking out for us while we stood and had our drinks. Unfortunately, no one left for an hour. We finally sat at a little booth in the corner. I had a salmon burger and hubby had the chicken parm. Again, the drinks and food were top notch… but we were disappointed we couldn’t sit at the bar. We were told by a couple of workers to get there at 5pm on a Friday… so next time, that is what we did.
… But the bar was full!!! We were disappointed, so we left… since it was so early we drove down to Highwood and went to Toad’s Stool for a drink, and Longitud315 for dinner.
We will be back… maybe during the week… :-/

Setup my «about-​to-​be» in-​laws at the Deerpath Inn last week and they had a great stay. With my family all being in LF, there are not a lot of other options, so I’m glad that this worked out. I did not want my in-​laws to stay out by the tollway.
Anyway, they enjoyed the pub and breakfast area in the dining room a lot. They said the water in the showers was either blazing hot or freezing cold, but it is an older hotel, so things like that can be expected. I had a nice talk with the desk attendent when we checked in and he was very helpful.
Will use the Deerpath Inn for future stays and always enjoy their pub.
