Devine Design

Mike the owner of Devine Design should be called «Devine Disaster». I have had contractors in and out of my home and NEVER run into such a horrible contractor/​owner. To begin with I had purchased my travertine stone for my kitchen at Surface USA and was contracted by Pamela Giepel, to utilize him. I was sold that he was an in house contractor with a facility in Orange County and has experienced contractors working for him. I called Mike to set up an appointment which he missed both times and I had to call to remind him which he forgot. That should of been my first instinct on what I was working with. Then he shows up and over bids his additional work/​change orders. Since I was already contracted with Surfaces USA, I continue to use him. Then he sends a demo crew out to my house without any proper tools. No drop cloths, no shop vacuum to clean up the mess. The plumber comes collects a check and removes all the plumbing, facets, etc. stays for half hour left with the money. Plumber did not bother to check for leaks since plumbing was torn apart and my facet leaked all week. I left Mike, a message and text and he replied via text they will change it out when they do the plumbing. 6 days later I wake up to water all over my floor when I called Mike, he finally sent the plumber to fix it. Should I continue on… ok now after the demo of my kitchen the same employees from Devine Design that did my Templates tells me in one (1) week they will be back to install the travertine counter top this was on a Tuesday. Saturday I get a text from Mike, they broke the template and need to come out and re measure. So, the employee comes out to measure and he proceeds to tell me that my counter tops will be delayed 3 – 5 days. I ask him why and he tells me since my travertine is so delicate it takes time. I ask him if I am able to see the lay out of the stone and he tells me the facility (fabrication shop) is in Los Angeles. I was sold on this contractor as an in house facility in Orange County. I call Mike, regarding the schedule which he is so flaky arranging anyway and he is in a meeting selling his services to some other poor fool. I finally call Mike, again and he is irritated and starts telling me how busy he is and what is it that I want? I review the meeting with his employee telling me that they cannot meet the scheduled date for install and Mike, tells me his MEXICANS should not be talking about scheduling. Then I ask Mike, about his facility (fabrication shop) in Orange County and he tells me it has not been there for awhile that he has «issues» with doing fabrication there. Mike, then says you will just have to drive to Los Angeles if you want to see the layout. Now I am worried what did I hire? Called Pamela, and review all this disaster with her and she immediately took charge and handled the situation as professionally as she could possibly do with Devine «Disaster» on her hands. I know that if it was not for Pamela, I would have not had this job complete. I did speak to Mike, once last time for scheduling purposes which was another «Disaster» because he bragged about how busy he was and that my job did not mean anything to him. That after he installs the countertop that he would be happy to leave the job even though I did a change order with him. I mentioned my concerns about sending his employees out to a jobsite with no tools, supervision, not to mention if these employees are even covered with all the proper documentation it requires to run a construction company. Mike, could care less he told me that he will not going forward put down any drop clothes or clean up after his crew nor will they be supervised by anyone! That my job frankly was so small compared to his LARGE EGO. Told me that he could not bring enough plastic to cover the furniture in my house. Can you imagine talking to your clients like this? Needless to say Pam, continued to communicate with him since I refused. If I had not already paid 75% of the work I would of FIRED Mike, on the spot. lf you purchase your stone at Surfaces USA DO NOT UTILIZE this company I still question if he covers his employees or if he subs them out? Devine «Disaster» does not deliver the services they sell you on and wanted to make consumers aware.

Would have put up pictures of my gorgeous kitchen but due to major leak drama from next door neighbor, these guys have to pull my kitchen BACK OUT! I had a kitchen for less than 24 hours… In fact it was Mike’s guys who found the problem, as the neighbors were out of town!
Devine Design are my go-​to guys not only for the rebuild but for the water damage and mold remediation. I trust them absolutely.
Mike’s quote for the countertop material I picked was significantly less than a competing kitchen design group’s. No gouging here!
Super polite guys who pick up after themselves and all with wonderful attitudes and fun to work with. And perfectionists! To watch them address the finishing touches was impressive. Very tolerant of my dog, great sense of humor and overall (aside from the leak) this process has been a joy.
You could probably find less expensive, quick in and out contractors but I wanted high quality without breaking the bank and that’s what I got!

Devine Design completed our project on time, was very helpful in assisting us in a field
in which we had little knowledge, workmanship beautiful and the workers showed up whenever promised. We are enjoying the new bath shower and would certainly have Mike’s company do additional improvements at a later date. Highly recommend!

Mike is awesome! I already had a team I wanted to do my bathroom remodel, but I went into his store looking for tile and he made such an effort to help me find tile to match my unique countertop. He text me a pic of my unique countertop found at another job ironically the very next day. I instantly dropped who I had and went with Mike. They helped me find the perfect tile/​color combination and designed it. I absolutely love this bathroom that I disliked for so long. The price was reasonable. He always answered my calls joyfully. Mike even repainted my bathroom at no charge after I made a horrible first choice of paint! Ugh thank you Mike and your team! I love my bathroom!

I worked with Mike on several clients project thru Surfaces USA. He’s always reliable, prompt on the job and has great follow thru getting the projects done as promised. He’s a pleasure to work with and you can tell he is very knowledgeable about construction.

It all began as a small hole in the discharge hose of a dishwasher. Wood cabinets and hard wood floors do not take kindly to water. A quest for the best kitchen remodel company followed. This was not an easy task considering how many questionable firms there are in my area. Once I met Mike and Kristi, I knew they were people I could trust. They are knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. They spent a large amount of time describing the choices for my new kitchen and flooring and helping me decide the best match for my limited budget. The project progressed exactly as they said it would and kept me advised about a small delay when some of the cabinets came from the manufacturer with defects that required reconstruction. As the kitchen and new tile floor progressed, it looked better than I had hoped. It looked so good, that it made me feel bad about the master bathroom. Yep, I had them rip out the old fiberglass tub unit and install a new one with matching tile floor. Again, beauty beyond my expectations. If you are looking for honest people that are easy to talk with, Mike and Kristi from Devine Designs will exceed your expectations.

Mike and his team is amazing! We needed to update our condo, we had an idea of what we wanted to do but he was able to walk us through of what would work and would not. His quote was very reasonable and worked within our budget. He was really understanding of change requests. As you know, once things come together you want to add one more thing. His team was really respectful of the HOA rules and all the neighbors grew to love him too. I have used his team to help with HOA projects and Mike has helped us out with home issues when we don’t know who else to call. Mike even walked our dog and bought him a toy.
We just bought a new house and already have projects lined up for Devine Design.

Ok, so this took us awhile to write but Mike and his team are awesome!!! The crew is polite and personable! Mike’s designer, Kristi is the back bone of the company in my opinion. Kristi showed up everyday to make sure the designs were done correctly. We had our family room remodled and we are so happy with the outcome. Thank you for your professionalism and making everything right. I will recommend this company to anyone. We are having them come back for our kitchen face lift this summer. A special thank you to Selvin, the tile man. Selvin was so meticulous about how he placed the travertine, our fireplace is so gorgeous. Whenever he wasn’t sure, he made a phone call to the designer, he didn’t just guess to get the job done like most people would. Selvin worked 7 days from morning to night to get it right, thank you!

I met Mike and his team when I was in the process of redoing a condo in Huntington Beach. I am very skeptical of contractors as I have personally been in the business and know enough about construction to be dangerous. I met up with Mike at the condo and then again at his showroom to choose materials. Being very opinionated as I am, I was delighted when it ended up being very easy for us to pull our ideas and design knowledge into a beautiful scenario for the home. Mike opened my eyes to many ideas which I wouldn’t have thought about. Needless to say, the project went as smoothly as I could have asked and the entire condo was transformed from bottom of the barrel ugly to magazine worthy! The condo was sold in record time, (less than a week) and brought in multiple offers. I ended up getting more than the asking price for the unit. A large part of this was due to Devine Design! They did the work that we agreed on and the project was completed in a timely manner. I will definitely use Mike again in the future. Great guy, great company, great results.

We first met Mike when he did our kitchen. His estimate was very reasonable and his portfolio looked great so we decided to go with him and we are so glad we did! The kitchen came out great and he came on budget and on time. He was with us every step of the way from taking us to choose the granite, to the hardwood place and everything in between. He gave us a lot of great ideas but also listened to ours. He was very patient with our «attention to detail» :) and always a pleasure to work with.
Since then, we’ve had 2 leaks from a prior slab leak in our dining room and another one from our upstairs bathroom and both, of course, happened after midnight. Mike was at our door within the hour!!! I thought for sure he wouldn’t answer the second time around but indeed he did. Who shows up at 1am to fix a leak? Mike does :)
During the last project, we felt one of the planks was a bit off so we told him about it. He came back to take a look at it and replaced without any hassle.
We have recommended him to everyone who needs a contractor.

We needed some work done in our kitchen and were referred to Devine design by the place we purchased our granite. We met Mike Devine of Devine Design and hired them based on his knowledge, confidence and ability to understand exactly what we wanted. As we became more confident in their capabilities one thing led to another and we ended up redoing almost the entire kitchen and our bar. They did an unbelievable job the whole team were great. They kept everything as clean as possible through the entire process. To top it all off Mike sent a cleaning crew at the end and had them clean our entire house so that we could just sit and enjoy the transformation. We have worked with many contractors in the past and I have never seen this level of service. I would highly recumbent Devine Design to anyone looking for a contractor. I can confidently say we now have a magazine worthy kitchen thanks to Devine Design. Big thanks to Mike and his team.

I love my «new» condo! Thanks to a hard working and dedicated crew, my home has been completely transformed with every detail completed to my delight! From the stair-​railing to the wood floors, to the fireplace, walls, doors, baseboards, casings bathrooms and kitchen… Devine Design did an excellent job! The team paid close attention to every detail, never cutting corners… working throughout the project with positive attitudes and an A+ work ethic. The renovation is technically completed, but Mike Devine has now offered to come back in two weeks time to do one more «walk through» in case I find any more detail work or «touch up» work since the renovation was completed. Now that’s excellent customer service!

My husband and I were opening our first men’s hair salon in Newport Beach (PRESS Men’s Hair). We have been through our fair share of contractor nightmares. The thought of trying to find the right contractor frightens us and we all know finding a good one is few and far between. We found Devine Design by a referral from a long time friend, who has had work done by them for over 10 years. We have heard that getting at least three bids for a remodel project is a must so we did just that. Although we spent a lot of time reviewing all three bids and decided on Devine Design, we were still skeptical. Our project involved a complete remodel, which required a demo of an old salon to the bare bones and build it back up from scratch — all custom work. Our first meeting with them went well. They understood our vision and because they have a design background, they knew exactly what we were looking for. They took their time to explain every single detail and the best part, they are there for us even in the wee hours of the night to answer any concerns or questions we may have. Even though the whole project took a couple of weeks longer than expected due to the inevitable (city permits, etc.), they were able to bring our vision to life, to a T. We are blown away by their business ethics and craftsmanship. If we get the opportunity to open another salon down the road, we are undoubtedly going to hire these guys again. We feel blessed! We are a couple months into the opening of our business, and they still call to check up on us. What a great experience. We are forever grateful! We will definitely recommend Devine Design to our friends. My only advice is when looking for a contractor, do not hire the cheapest guy you find.

I’m so leery about contractors. They are two-​steps above car salesmen and real-​estate agents! I’ve watched friends and family go through hell with remodels when the contractors become unreliable, unprofessional, or just plain go out of business once the money is forked over.
We were in the market to remodel our kitchen and floors in our condo. We interviewed several contractors, who ended up flaking on us (didn’t even send us a written appraisal as promised!!) or tried to overcharge us.
We were turned onto Mike of Devine Design by a flooring seller in Fullerton, on Contractor’s Row. We got in touch with Mike quickly and he met with us on Christmas Eve for an initial discussion/​interview! We could tell Mike was different right off the bat! His first question to us was about our budget and then proceeded to take an additional 2 days showing & helping us choose samples at a distributor, who only sells to contractors, and meeting with the cabinet maker, to give us an idea what was possible. All of this time invested before we ever signed a contract or spent a dime!
Mike’s crew was professional, clean, respectful of our space, as we were living there during the construction. They showed up on time every morning (if they said they’d be there at 8:00am, there were there between 7:45 — 8:00!!) and they swept up the place every day before they left for the day. Mike was responsive to all our questions, emails, texts and calls and put us at ease during points in the project that overwhelmed us.
We never had to worry about the project or the materials. Mike oversees his crew very carefully and stops in at every job at least once a day to make sure the project is moving along. We were supposed to be done in 4 weeks, and really turned out to be 6 weeks… but I’ve known people who have tried to overhaul their kitchen and it turned into 5 months! So, I’m considering 2 weeks to be nothing in comparison.
At the end of the construction, Mike brought in a professional cleaning crew to deep clean our entire house, which was covered in dust layers not worth dusting prior to completion. We will definitely be calling on Mike in the future for more updates… once we’ve paid off this remodel! :-)
