Frostings Cupcakes

I am so crushed to learn that Frostings is no more. I enjoyed their cupcakes so much that I served them at my wedding back in June, and everyone continues to rave about those cupcakes (especially the Roseberry, Cookies & Cream, and Coconut Macaroon flavors). I sincerely hope they will return with a new location, because they beat the pants off Sprinkles, Susie’s, and other sub-​par yet popular bakeries.

So sad. Came by for some birthday cake cupcakes and the store was no longer open :(. I hope they have a new location.

So bummed when we went by today to find out it was closed. Is there a new location??? They had the best cupcakes around, we will really miss them.

Love this place, but went there last week and they seemed to have closed down? Anyone know if they moved elsewhere???
They had the best cupcakes, with fillings in the middle and plenty of frosting… yum yum… favorites are: coconut, lemon, strawberries and cookies’n cream.
I hope they haven’t closed for good :(

I went in today and the store signs had been taken off, the lights were off and they wouldn’t pick up their phones. It seems this place is no longer here :(I’m so sad, they had such yummy cupcakes.

Sugary, creamy and soft cupcakes! Got their coconut sprinkled vanilla cupcake and red velvet cupcake. The store is girly and lots of cute girly gift items can be found. The cupcakes come in a cute box too!
They have sale going on like 75% on t shirts, mugs etc.

I was stuck in traffic and pulling in the parking lot at 8:04pm. It was wife’s birthday and they wouldn’t even let me in to buy her favorite cupcake!
If the cup cakes were not so amazing I would give it one star and NEVER come back.
I guess that’s what you get for hiring OC teenagers to run your store.

I’ve been wanting to try ‘Frostings’ for a few months and was SO excited to try them today. We got 3 cupcakes: cookies and cream, lemon and chocolate raspberry (truffle?).
The only one that was good and moist was the chocolate raspberry I bought my Mom. The cookies and cream was dry and too sweet… it didn’t even taste all that «Oreo-​y» (WITH Oreos in there!) but the lemon… it was HORRIBLE! I’ve never not wanted to finish a cupcake! It was very dry and had a strange, fake lemon taste — and way too much of said ‘fake lemon’ flavor. The lemon curd inside was OK… but not great.
I want to go back to try the ‘Day & Night’ (or is it ‘Night & Day’?) which is chocolate cake with a vanilla frosting I believe. If it’s good I’ll amend my review.
The reason they even got 2 stars is because the place is very cute, the packaging is elegant and the chocolate raspberry cupcake was good.

I love cupcakes… Yep that’s pretty much me and my sweet tooth talking.
This cupcake store delivers on a bunch of levels.
First off it’s extremely clean and well maintained. Big plus. Also it’s spacious and easy to see all the cupcakes they have to offer. It’s not overly crowded inside with a bunch of nonsense like some other cupcake stores I have been too…
Second the staff was very pleasant and knowledgable on the types of cupcakes and more importantly which ones have cream cheese frosting because that could be the death of us.
Thirdly selection and flavor. Like most gourmet cupcake shops they tend to have daily Flavors and then the common Flavors. This place had a few Flavors that looked super tempting, photos posted. I couldn’t choose between the Cookies and Cream or the Night and Day … Luckily for me neither could my gf so we got both. The night and day cupcake had a soft moist chocolate cake flavor that disappeared in your mouth while the frosting was the right amount of flavor and balanced quantity. Oh it was good. Next the cookies and cream has a built in Oreo cookie in the middle, say what!!! This cupcake wasn’t as moist as the night and day and I assume that’s because of the Oreo cookie but it was sure tasty. The cookie in the middle gives it a whole new texture all it’s own. It was definitely something new and it was exciting my taste buds like crazy.
Fourthly … Is that even a word? Well who cares, I think the price point for the cupcakes is right in line with every other cupcake shop I have been too. And for the price, size and flavor they I would gladly pay their price. So some people need to realize great cupcakes aren’t cheap and cheap cupcakes aren’t great.
I would love to give the 5 stars to them but I think I will have to come back and try out a few different Flavors. I hold that 5star rating to my favorite Cupcake store down here in SD so Frostings needs a few more taste tries before earning that last star.

I’m sorry to say, Frostings is just another gourmet cupcake shop. I think the flavors were good. The size was good. The ratio of frosting to cake was good. The cake was a bit dry. The price was steep, $ 3.50 a pop. That was the same price as the toll road I paid to use to get to Frostings!
I got the Cookies and Cream cupcake. It was tasty! The oreo inside was soft, it had lost a lot of its crunchy cookie texture. The cupcake did not taste like the standard vanilla nor a basic yellow cake, it had a sweet cream flavor which I really appreciated! I didn’t want just a boring yellow cupcake with an oreo in it. I can do that myself! I tried a bite of my friends Lemon Drop and it was good. It had a lemon filling too!
The server was nice. She commented on my friend’s nail polish, telling us that she can’t paint her nails because she makes and handles the cupcake. At first that was reassuring until I realized she rang me up and worked the cash register and gave me change and then got up and packed up my friend’s cupcakes… WITHOUT WEARING GLOVES OR WASHING HER HANDS. OH MY GOODNESS. THAT’S A BIG NO-​NO. I was appalled…
Overall. Frostings is just like any other gourmet cupcake shop. The flavors are good. We can pick at the details, but to be honest its just another Sprinkles except instead of a polka dot for its signature sprinkle, its a flower. I think I will be sticking to Sprinkles and its whispers for free cupcakes. At least its free AND tasty and I can save $ 3.50 to use for the toll road.

This is a local cupcake shop near my home. The shop is very adorable, clean and their presentation is all there. Its clean, very well decorated, and they have accessories for purchase as well.
Customer service has always been decent any time I’ve come in.
Red Velvet is my favorite, this past time I was in, it was a little dry. Granted it was the end of the evening, but they should stay moist longer than one day. I prefer very moist cupcakes. The icing was perfect however and I adore how they top each one with a cute flower.

I think these cupcakes are great! I have to say I am a huge fan of sprinkles, but these are pretty darn good! My favorite is the cookies and cream! I have had their cupcakes 2 times now and each time I have been very pleased!
The store is very clean! And the workers were nice, I think they could be a little more friendly or attentive, but hey maybe it was an off day for them.
Overall great cupcakes! I will be back!

I’ve been going to Frostings for a few years. I used to eat at the former Jalapeño’s then go get dessert at Frostings. Sometimes I’d grab a cupcake FIRST then have lunch. I have to say that my initial thought was why pay money for something you can do at home and get a good dozen for the same price. Well, I’d happily pay $ 3+ for their coconut cupcake. Maybe even $ 4.maybe…don’t quote me on that…
Frostings once delivered them as a thank you gift over the holidays many moons ago, and to my disappointed, they were dry. I think they might have been the extras that didn’t sell. They were free so I can’t complain all that much.
The store is very neat and tidy every time I go in. They always have my favorite coconut cupcake and I can’t recall a time where I was disappointed.
You know what makes Frostings better than Sprinkles? Their cupcakes seem more dense and don’t crumble if you cut it in half. Who doesn’t like a solid moist cupcake with delicious frosting? WHO!
That’s all I got… for now…

We had a dozen cupcakes brought to our workplace (again), but they were less than impressive. I had looked forward to giving them a second chance, but even this sweet tooth couldn’t love these cupcakes.
Our dozen consisted of red velvet, lemon, birthday cake, chocolate, carrot, vanilla, cookies ‘n’ cream, and some other ambiguous-​looking cupcakes.
They were appealing on the outside, but you know me – it’s what’s on the inside that counts. And the inside was a mediocre carrot cake overpowered by purple and yellow raisins. (I’m all about the purple and gold – GO LAKERS – but not in my cupcakes. No, no, NO.)
The same was discovered about the birthday cake, red velvet (which was too dark… better name for it would be «dark red velvet»), and the others in general.
I am not above any food (s), but I would opt for other sweets in the place of Frostings (i.e. McDonald’s McFlurry, a maple donut, a pastry from 85 degrees, a SPRINKLES cupcake, perhaps?). It’s not worth the money, and it is definitely not worth the calories!
Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Simply chocolate is rich and satisfying for a serious chocolate lover like me. I have to get this flavor every time I go. Gotta feed the beast!
I also enjoy the lavender pear and red velvet.
Prices aren’t to unreasonable. It’s what you would be paying at any good cupcake place ($ 3.50 a cupcake). Keep in mind these are the size of two cupcakes. Very big. The interior is pretty too.

My friends were so sweet to buy me a whole box of cupcakes from this store and I loved them all! (See my photo of all 6 flavors I tried).
Cupcake reviews:
Coconut macaroon (4.5 stars): good coconut flavor, frosting was a bit hard but that’s because it’s toasted, and cake was soft and moist!
Cookies and crème (5 stars): cut it open and you will find an actual chocolate Oreo flavor cake inside the white cake! Like it was filled with a surprise! The frosting was perfect, not too sweet.
Birthday cake (5 stars): good cupcake overall, it has specs of color inside the cake — (kind of like the funfetti cake). The frosting and sprinkles combination tasted perfect!
Lemon drop (4.5 stars); if you like lemon flavored cake then this will be perfect for you! There’s a custard lemon filling inside and the frosting is not too sweet which compliments the sweet lemon flavor perfectly.
Red velvet (3 stars): take my review of the red velvet with a grain of salt because I’ve never liked red velvet cakes to begin with. The frosting was good though! My sister tried it and she said it was her favorite out of all of the other flavors.
Simply chocolate (1 star): tasted funny from the start. It looks like the cake would taste like chocolate but it didn’t, it had a funny favor to it. The chocolate frosting wasn’t as chocolatey either. I personally didn’t like this one at all.
Overall a great cupcake place with many different flavors to try out. Depends on your taste preferences, but I’m sure you will find one you like. As you can see, I found more than one! I will definitely visit this place if I’m ever in the Lake Forest area.

The cupcakes are large and pretty here and there are many flavors, but the consistency of freshness here makes these cupcakes two and half stars. The store has a lot of cupcake flavors available for purchase when you walk in. There are flavors that are carried in the store everyday that include Red Velvet, Vanilla Coconut, Simply Vanilla, Simply Chocolate, Lemon Drop, Birthday, Cookies and Cream and Night & Day. Besides these flavors, they carry three special flavors of cupcakes based on the day some of which include Banana, 14 Karrot, Sweet Strawberry, German Chocolate, Orange Twist, Chocolate Ganache, and Raspberry Truffle to name a few.
When I first visited here, I purchased two boxes of cupcakes for my friends. Their four cupcake boxes included the same four cupcakes, Red Velvet, Cookies & Cream, Simply Chocolate and Birthday Cake.
I did not taste a cupcake during this visit but purchased a vanilla and chocolate cake pop to take home. These small morsels of cake were very tasty.
On a subsequent visit, I purchased a box of three cupcakes for home consumption. The flavors I chose were Traditional, Birthday Cake and Sweet Strawberry.
None of the cupcakes seemed super moist to me. Of the three, the Sweet Strawberry was the least dry. I think the problem has to do with the open air storage of the cupcakes behind a glass front. These cupcakes are constantly exposed to air, hence, I think, the lack of moist cake. They are just a little too big also for me with too much frosting, like Sprinkles, which I am not really a fan of. The store sells other treats such as sugar cookies, shortbread cookies and coconut macaroons besides the cake pops. Service was friendly and courteous when I have been here, but I think I will stick to Island Cupcakes for my cupcake purchases in South Orange County.

The staff at my work place got these cupcakes for a farewell for one of my co-worker’s last day.
We got a dozen of an assortment of them. I believe I ate the chocolate with a dark chocolate frosting. The cupcake I had was a little dry on the outside, but moist on the inside. They are very sweet and you’ll probably need something to drink (like milk!). Overall, they were okay. But I still prefer Sprinkles over Frostings.
Not sure how much they cost, but I’m assuming they are similar to other cupcake places, so about $ 3?

My favorite cupcake place! I’ve never been a big fan of cupcakes until my friend took me to this cute little store in Lake Forest. Their cupcakes have made me addicted. I came on the fourth of July and their cupcakes were beautifully decorated in celebration of our Independence day. I ordered their bordeaux flavor and the maple bacon flavor. I was didn’t have much expectations on their bacon cupcake since bacon is such a random ingredient for a topping, but OMG. I felt as if their cupcakes had the perfect amount of frosting to ratio. It wasn’t overbearing with sweetness either (just the way I like it). Their bordeaux flavor was delicious as well but not as memorable as their maple bacon.
The only negatives I had about the cupcake was that I wish the cake part itself would be a little more moist and some cupcakes did not look as well big as the others. Ex. the lemon drop looked delicious and I probably would have decided to get that over the bordeaux flavored, but the lemon drop cupcakes looked way too small compared to the bordeaux (and they were both the same price so obviously I’d choose the bigger ones).
Their flavors change day by day which may not be something you want. It is good because it forces you to try different flavors on the days you choose to go.
The environment is cute and comfortable (there’s even couches & umbrellas near the fountain you can sit by). The workers are incredibly friendly. & overall, I would definitely make the 40 minute drive there just to have another one of their cupcakes!

Sweet Strawberry-​my favorite out of the 4! The frosting was creamy and sweet. It wasn’t overly sweet, but borderline. Had they made it a tad bit sweeter, it would’ve been too much for me. The cake itself was really moist. I could eat it without any frosting and the bits of strawberries inside were a nice touch!
Cookies and Cream-​the first couple of bites were just ok. It wasn’t anything special. But then I kept eating and bam! They put a whole oreo cookie inside the cake! Totally caught me by surprise. It quickly went from ok to wow! Great idea!
Birthday cake-​basic yellow cake with vanilla bean frosting and rimmed with sprinkles. There were sprinkles in the cake too. This one brought back fond childhood memories of donuts, cakes, and cookies with sprinkles. You know everyone gets this one.
Bordeaux-​I liked the deep chocolate flavor of the cake, but the frosting was too sweet. The cake was a little drier than the others, but it was still good. Nothing wow about this one though.
At $ 3.50 each, it’s kinda pricey for the size. They’re pretty big, but I think Sprinkles cupcakes are a bit bigger. The store itself was clean and they have a few tables inside. It’s not cramped at all and I liked how their cupcakes were displayed. The staff was very friendly.
