Woodcrest School

Took a tour today. Their stated hours was from 630am-​6pm. Director asked when he will be dropped off and picked up. My husband said 630−6pm.
She immediately judged us. She immediately told us that it was NOT healthy for a kid to be in daycare that long. And quickly made judgement about us. This is within 2mins of talking to her.
If she had genuine concern about or try to be understanding, she should of asked… why that long?
We have many reasons… I am currently on modified bedrest. Not all days my son will be there that long, but we need the option to have a place that will allow our kid to be there. So I asked… so what time is your daycare open? She replies 630am-​6pm. And then she goes on by saying parents that leave their kids very early get their kids at an earlier time because their work end early… like most of them work with companies that are from the East Coast.
Ummmm… I guess she forgot that some professions do 12hr shifts like RNs.
Seriously… I didn’t even want to continue the tour. But my husband insisted since we were there…
Okay so I observed the 2yr Olds doing circle time with the main teacher. The kids were not engaged. It was circle time and potty time at the same time. Smelled really bad. They didn’t even try to cover it up or have a fan on to air out the smell.
And now the cost seems to add up. Your kid isn’t potty trained. They will add more to ur monthly. You want a hot lunch, 5bucks per meal because it’s ordered through a restaurant. (Kids can bring their own lunch).
Why did I even give these place 2 stars?
1star for having animal education in Fridays.
1star for having a garden.
But honestly… I need to be able to approach the director if any issues comes up with my child and not feel judged. She was insensitive and very condescending. Parents and teachers work together. Each kid is different. If this is the way she talks to me… I’m pretty sure she is not nice to her staff.
I wonder what the teacher retention rate is there! Forgot to ask the question because I already knew within 2mins of conversation with the director… I did not want my kid at this school. She didn’t care what your circumstances are. She was rude, condescending, and very judgemental.

Our son started going here about 4 months ago and we are really happy. My son loves it and he is learning so much. The program focuses on learning too my 3.5 year old is learning what my daughter in TK is learning. The whole staff is awesome. Thank you for taking such great care of him.

My son had just turned 2 years old and we enrolled him in this school. He started on a Thursday did well, however the next day he cried when my husband dropped him off. Which was to be expected since he has just been with me this whole and just needed the adjustment. I kept communication with the school and asking how he was doing. They assured me that he was doing well. All the notes indicated that he was fine. After 3 and a half days, the Director (Leah) called my husband and said that my son was not adjusting well. Which surprised me because all this time they have just been saying that he was doing fine. When I or my husbsnd picked him up he was playing with the other children. Also how can one day my son isn’t adjusting when it has only been 3.5 days. Even adults take at least 2 weeks for adjust to a new schedule or new tasks. They said that my child was too clingy, had to be carried often and needed one on one attention which they cannot handle since they 24 kids at a time with 3 teachers… I have talked to others daycare directors and were floored as to how this was handled. It would be understandable that the teachers would need to work with a child that hasn’t been a structured environment at all until now. My child wasn’t even given a chance to adjust. In the end I’m glad my child is no longer going here. I don’t want my child to be going to that type of school where the director doesn’t know how to lead her school and staff. I wouldn’t recommend this school. There are so many other reliable daycare’s out there.

This is a great school! My son is 4 and is in Room 6 Miss Maria and Miss Dawn’s class. This is by far the best school my son has ever been to. (Unfortunately since we’re moved around we’ve been to quite a few.) Within the first couple of weeks his drawing and writing skills dramatically improved. The teachers are super caring, communication at the school is great and the price is reasonable. My son has made great friends here. They also send daily photos to show you what your child has been doing — this has been a great way to talk with my son about what he’s learning at school. The program seems to have a good mix of learning, play, and activities. My son was even teaching me his yoga. ;) He is constantly telling me about animals, healthy eating habits and stories he has read at school. He really likes this school. Bravo Woodcrest!

I now have my youngest child attending the infant room while my first is in the 3 year old room. Since my 3 year old started at 6 months old there have been continuous upgrades and accommodations at the school. You can tell there really is an effort in keeping the school up to a standard and being accommodating for the parents and children.
They recently added a real nice finger print scanner system for check in/​out which is a lot more convenient than their last system of paper reports and clipboards. They also just added a «Kid Reports» online based system that works out really well. I have an app on my phone and I am on their website every day from work to see how both my kids are doing, naps, food, pictures, etc… The teachers now carry around tablets to take pictures and provide real time updates of the kids. By the time I pick them up, I already know for the most part what they did that day so it makes for good conversation on the way home with the older one. (I’m a techie, so this is a win in my department)
They are always doing great things with the kids. My 3 year old gets to pet animals when their «mobile» petting zoos come. He has seen, touched, etc… animals from goats to snakes to giant lizards. They also get to plant vegetables in their garden and get to watch them grow and pick them. Their water days during the summer are great; my kid looks forward to them. They even accommodate parent’s night out 2 Fridays a week to let the parents go out until like 9:30PM while they babysit. This just scratches the surface of what they offer the older kids. We are VERY happy with their program, not to mention being happy that our kids LOVE their teachers.
My 3 year old seems to be leaps and bounds over other children we meet that go to other schools or no day care at all. They have a very set curriculum that teaches them so much. It seems that every day he comes home with having learned something new and is excited to talk about it. It was also a plus (and on the cheaper side) to have them assist the parents in potty training at the age of 2. Just like anywhere else, the parent has to be just as engaged in order to see results.
In terms of the infant room, I can’t complain. Well, they are infants. They drink bottles, sit on the floor, drool and chew on toys. Other than that, I do have to say the room has gotten A LOT cleaner, in my perception in the past three years. I think the ratio seems to be a 4:1 with the teachers to kids. This is pretty standard, but sometimes it seems hard for one teacher to handle 4 crying babies that need diaper changes. A few times I noticed a baby that looks as if they’ve been crying a bit, but nothing bad. The infants seem to get an early start with certain development toys, interaction with other kids their age and very loving teachers. The early education and socializing of kids their age is priceless.
All in all, the school is great. I’ve seen some bad reviews about over crowding, and other things, but honestly if you pick anything apart enough, you can complain about anything. I look at what my kids get out of the school and how it would be nearly impossible for me to provide all this if we stayed home with them and kept them out of daycare. The social interaction is priceless for kids this age. You get what you pay for.

My son has been at Woodcrest since he was 2 ½ years old and he just loves it there. All of the teachers are very kind and loving — great for a shy child! The days are filled with lots of craft projects, age appropriate curriculum and play time. They do special projects and activities which enhance the experiences had there. The tuition is a little high but I do see it get put to good use in the classrooms. The supplies and toys are always clean and in good condition. I would definitely recommend Woodcrest.

Great place for kids. My son (3 yr) has been in this daycare since he was about 9 months old. Their infant room is absolutely amazing and they made me feel less guilty and more comfortable to going back to work. My son learned to talk much faster by staying in this school, he learned to spell his name by age 2 and count more than 10. As a working mom, it’s never easy to put a child in a daycare full time but Woodcrest helps you so that both parents and children can benefit from their help.

My son has loved this school from his first day. The teachers take great care to provide for the childrens’ education and well-​being. Each class room is bright and inviting. Everyday there is an educational focus as well as activities and art projects to keep the kids interested. My son has made great friends and always has fun stories and experiences.
