Zuni Packing & Delivery

After rescheduling twice, completing paperwork, agreeing on 3 movers, their employee calls and asks if he can come in an hour. A third re-​schedule. I called my friend who was the first stop, and he was not going to be back by then — this was 2 ½ hours early. I called back, and wanted to make sure he had 3 employees, something in his conversation just felt very disorganized. He said only him. One guy! I explained that the item was quite heavy and that 3 movers was the minimum, and was what we agreed upon. I explained that I had agreed to the high price to have 3, experienced movers move one item 1.5 miles. He questioned this, and said he’d have to pick someone up. I explained it needed to be an employee, not a local from a corner so that they’d be covered by workers comp insurance. I explained it would need to be noon, as we had scheduled, since my friend could not reschedule, sooo sorry! He said let me call the office to see if we can get the guys, and then he called back and declined the job entirely. Clearly, he couldn’t get the 3 guys. So, Zuni Trucking dba Zuni Movers simply flaked out, creating havoc with 3 business days for me. We believe in hiring local, doing business local, and are great supporters of our community. It is with heavy heart that I have to write this review. I had heard less than good reviews from several trusted friends, and now this confirms what I heard to be true. I even had one friend tell me not to use them, they are too rough with items! That friend works for a very active, local design house, so she has had lots of experience with Zuni. Last time they came out, they pressured me upwards and upwards in price & the owner seemed nervous about everything, and I took great pains to put him at ease. Also, they grabbed a worker from the local company to help with the delivery. So I had an uninsured worker at my home, leaving me exposed to a workers comp claim. My experience with this Company is just one where they are high-​maintenance.
The nice Company that I just scheduled with instead of Zuni, were ¹⁄₃ the price, and on an hourly basis, happy for the job and knew my friend well. No high maintenance, no Drama, no rescheduling, fully bonded, licensed and insured. Happy to pay hourly, that way I don’t feel apologetic or pressured. We can just do what we need to do to get the job done. I’m looking forward to just relaxing & enjoying my day! YAY!!!

After a very rocky start, the movers came through with a great experience. They were courteous, friendly, efficient, and on time. I would have rated them 5 stars but the front office gal made so many mistakes that I don’t know where to start to explain. She even sent the movers to the wrong building in the complex.
I would recommend them highly, but be extremely careful with the front office as the woman who answers the phone (not the owner) is not very good and gets a lot of information wrong so check and double check before finalizing. She lost my original information with phone numbers and correct addresses and blamed me, my email service and my cell provider. She even said she didn’t have the correct phone number when two days before she actually called it. I guess she forgot that before she used that excuse.

Had a very positive experience. Kind, courteous and respectful owner. Very responsive in planning for the move and the follow up. The crew was professional and respectful and went above and beyond with any of my requests. Nothing was damaged. They worked around my 3 young children running around and were very careful and vigilant. They moved fast and didn’t miss a thing.

Zuni movers are outstanding. They did a great job packing and moving me — both houses had lots of stairs but they did an awesome job. Made my move almost painless for me!

Zuni movers did an excellent job not only moving me personally but also moved my office in Costa Mesa to Newport Beach! Their team of movers is nothing less than professional and work incredibly hard on moving quickly. Zuni movers is the only company I trust to move my belongings.

We used Zuni the other week to move a short distance which sounds easy but any move for the owners is stressful. Zuni made is a easy as they possibly could and we were very impressed with their courtesy, polite staff and attitude. No task was too big for them. We moved from the UK just 8 months ago and the experience of having our goods delivered was awful so we were nervous. Zuni came highly recommended and they lived up to that. We have lots of precious pictures and furniture that has crossed the Atlantic only recently but needed to be packed up again. I don’t think we had any damage at all. Plus and this was a biggie for us, they hung all our pictures at the new place and put up our shelves — result we felt unpacked and settled quickly. Would we recommend them? Yes!

It was a great experience. The owner called me within 30 minutes of requesting a quote online. I had to move out of a storage unit & only had 1 day notice… Zuni put me on schedule, were very polite & courteous, took great care of my belongings. I have some precious, breakable art & it was handled with great attention. Life is in the details. Very impressive. Thank you Zuni.

Moving is never easy, however we had a good experience with Zuni. They were careful, professional and reasonable. We have several expensive heavy items that they moved with care and precision. Mario led a great crew and we were glad that we chose them. Thanks for a job well done.

Zuni movers have moved my family three times and my Mom twice. They are an outstanding company to work with, the guys are such careful movers and courteous. Myra and her crew in the office are so accommodating. They worked within our time frames at the last minute. Our furniture was wrapped so carefully they treated our furniture like it was their own.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE + THEY DAMAGED MY COUCH AND WOULDN’T TAKE CARE OF THE DAMAGE.
Wow! Zuni movers is the WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER… that i’ve had the displeasure of using in my whole life. Their driver acknowledged that they damaged a mint condition couch during the move. I sent Zuni the images, on 09/​14/​2014 in an email which they received and acknowledged. Mayra wanted to send a rehupolster out to look at it. I let her know, in an email that sending a third party out to look at the couch was not acceptable. That I wanted to deal directly with her. Fact: To rectify the damage done, the entire couch would need to be rehupolstered.
You’d figure that an owner of a small business would at least call to apologize or try to rectify the situation. The owner Mayra, will not even pick up the phone to speak with me. I’ve called several times. Instead she has her office assistants take messages for her. Plus she will only allot $ 50 for the damage. What an insult. Since she won’t pick up her phone, I sent another email and told her that that was unacceptable.
Instead she had one of her office assistants send me an email. And I quote: «Mayra will offer $ 50 dollars for the scratch on your couch, this is all she can do. We would have sent someone out to see the damage {a third party}, to make the necessary repairs, at this point it is no longer open for discussion. I will let Mayra know I followed up with you.» «Marc, I am a office assistant, I relay information provided by Mayra to customers and /​or vendors. I do not decide the outcome in any damage claim matter.»
Seems like she’s all talk about taking care of her customers. It’s taken her two weeks to get back to me after I’d sent her an email with images of the damage to my couch.
After some poking around it appears that really NOT A LICENSED MOVER IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA! Plus they never discussed insurance with me either.
What a horrible way to run a business that supposedly takes care of their clients. Shame on you Mayra. The least you could have done was pick up the phone and spoken to me. Are you a coward, not returning emails to me and not returning my calls either. What are you hiding from?
It gets even better. Mayra the owners partner called me to settle the matter and said she send me a refund of $ 200. After two weeks of not receiving the check… I emailed Mayra she replied and I quote: «Mark, nothing is happening or will happen with your claim. Your claim lacks several components, we have no evidence that the scracth on your couch was caused by my movers.» And it goes on. The thing is my wife and my daughter witnessed the drivers acknowledging that they had done the damage. They told me that they would report it to the owner. When I mentioned this to Mayra’s partner, she said that both the driver and the mover no longer work for the company. Strange huh? So this is how they take care of their clients. I wish I could give them minus –5 ****** Stars. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Never did i ever talk to you after the move, so not sure how you embellished the story that I yelled at you. The fact is you never had the decency to pick up the phone or return any of my emails after several attempts that spanned several weeks. Yes I did post the same story above on your Facebook page which is only the truth as the events transpired. Seemed like it was the only way to get your attention. If the job was too small for you, you shouldn’t have taken it. So what I get from your reply below is that smaller jobs get treated differently? You state that: «You attacked me on social media and expected me to give you a refund after you tried to make my company look bad.» Mayra, you made your company look bad all by yourself by not returning my emails or calls. Actually I posted the same facts as above in this Unilocal review only after repeated attempts to speak with you via phone and email went un-​answered for weeks to get your attention. I wasn’t looking for a refund… I was looking for you and your company to make good on the damage that you did to my custom made couch. There a huge difference between blackmail and asking you to do the right thing.

I have used six moving companies over the past 10 years but not one charged almost DOUBLE the original price quoted.
I’m my situation, I was moving from a 4,500SF home to another 4,500sf home in the same neighborhood– literally 5 streets away. The entire job took 2 – 3 days and the owner’s wife, walked the original house, sat down with me and gave a price. I decided to go with Zuni because they were a referral from the realtor (whom I’m going tell no longer to refer) and the price seemed reasonable. In order to further save money, I packed a portion of the move myself.
I’m giving Zuni one star because they showed up on the day promised and to my knowledge, nothing is stolen or damaged.
The owner had her assistant EMAIL me the shocking final price and when I emailed AND called the owner to complain, I received no reply.
In response, Zuni is probably going to say they never received the messages and the job was unexpectedly larger. Yes, in their defense, it took longer than what she estimated because we had painters and carpenters they had to work around– all of this I warned them about during the interview. However, this certainly does not justify a final price almost DOUBLE.

I used Zuni to move into my place, and the other day I used them to move out of that same place and into a new one. They were professional and courteous, never complaining about lifting heavy things. It looked like we weren’t going to be able to get my fridge in there, but they did it! They took off the doors and got it in there. If they don’t put stuff where you want it, you can always ask them to move it for you, and they will! Great company.

I recently used Zuni Movers and I have to say I would never recommend them to anyone. They showed up 3 hours late, damaged many of my items that THEY packed, would not allow me file a claim, are still holding many of my items hostage in their warehouse that they say they forgot, and will not deliver them, and now they want me to pay $ 800.00 more to deliver them after they had given me a price and was paid in full of $ 2500.00.
Their guys were very hard working but the owner and office staff are horrible to work with and the company is very poorly run.
Mayra the owner, will say one thing and then do something completely different. She is very difficult to deal with and has hung up on me twice in the coarse of trying to have a conversation about pick up and rectifying my remaining items.
I have been trying to negotiate with Myra for a price that she says I owe after she had been paid but with no outcome.
Do not use this company.

I would not recommend Zuni Movers to anyone. The movers were an hour late, with no phone call. The men were slow and careless. They dented my brand new washer, and large pots. They were careless and left things at the old house that I had to pay to have taken away. They also hauled away things that they weren’t suppose to. They were young, lazy and inexperienced! When I called to complain I couldnt even get the person I wanted to speak with call me back.
Terribly dissapointed!

I just recently hired Zuni Movers to help me move into my new apartment — they made my transition 100% less stressful by being friendly, punctual, and affordable. I was also pleased at the way they handled all my furniture with such care; everything was wrapped and moved without any damage.
All in all, I highly recommend this company and will definitely be calling them the next time I’m on the move!

Great family-​owned moving company! They were very respectful of both our old house and new house and took good care of our items. They were very fast and took initiative if we were not there to answer questions. On time, reliable and trustworthy. I will definitely be using them in the future and would recommend them highly to others.

Great moving company! Zuni is a family owned business that is trust worthy. They get the job done right and in a timely manner. Moving is always stressful, but when you move with Zuni you are working with reliable responsible people.

I called Zuni Movers last week for a quote to move our household stuff out of our old place and into the Irvine house we just closed escrow on last week. This is the 3^rd time we’ve used them, and we’ve already recommended them to clients & friends.
Mayra came by and gave us a really good quote, and promised that 3 guys would be at our old house at 8:30 am the next Saturday. They arrived 5 minutes early … so far so good.
Then things got even better! Matt & his guys wrapped padded blankets around all our artwork & fragile stuff, and in a very short time, everything was out of the house, and in their truck. They took great care of everything and what I was so impressed with, was their friendly nature and professionalism.
The move into our new place was also easy and pleasant. I can’t recommend Zuni Movers enough! Very honest and all-​round good people!

I was not happy with this move at all. I chose them because I had some furniture I wanted built and was told by both the guy, Desmond, and the girl answering the phone that they could do this in a snap! Turns out… NOT SO MUCH!
Here is what we experienced.
1. The quote was below everyone else’s but everyone ELSE had a CAP! They charged me $ 400 over their quote which put me $ 300 over everyone else’s cap! They did not have to move me very far. They took a MUCH longer time to do everything because the guys COULD NOT SPEAK ENGLISH. Only one could. So you had to go find him and try to communicate that way.
2. They had one of the guys who could not speak (OR READ OR UNDERSTAND) English try to put together the furniture I was told could be done in «a snap.» Instead, the guy took about 2−1÷5 hours to do it! That meant at $ 135 an hour, he was not helping the movers get things done, but STRUGGLING with the instructions in ENGLISH. In the end, he had LEFTOVER PARTS which he handed me! So now I have to figure out where these parts go and wonder if my Loft Bed for my daughter is put together safely!
3. I was promised 3 big strong guys. I got one, the lead guy, Wilson, who was strong and spoke English. The other two, no comparison and could not communicate with me.
I have NEVER IN MY LIFE been charged a whopping $ 1250 for ANY move! Even across the country moving a 4 BR place! They took an hour off for the bed, and a half hour off for lunch, but still, WAY TOO MUCH to pay $ 1100 for a 3 BR apartment up the street 3 blocks! Are you kidding me? Everyone else was capped around $ 950 and I sure as heck wish I had just gone with them.
NEVER AGAIN. I felt hoodwinked, taken advantage of and robbed. I even bought the guys dinner AND gave them some nice furniture, but they still socked it to me.
