I had a facial booked through a groupon deal. Overall I was not impressed with the treatment at all.
My biggest gripe was that the girl who did my facial must have just went outside to smoke and didn’t wash her hands before starting. Her fingers smelled like smoke and they were obviously positioned right under my nose for most of the service.
I was surprised to hear that the facial did not include a steam — isn’t that always part? It was a lot of applying creams on my face. It did not feel «clean’ when I left.
I agree with other reviews here that the salon was very unprofessional. I was the first appt of the day and I arrived on time but no one was there. I had to wait, then the staff slowly showed up, turned the lights on, started the computer etc…
My treatment room was cold and she didn’t really care much about that. I asked for a pillow for my head and she bluntly said — we dont have any. Then I asked for a rolled up towel. Her manners were unprofessional and gave off a vibe that she totally didn’t want to be there. There was no small talk at all or even a smile.
Lots of employee smoke breaks, right outside the front door — dont make for a nice appearance. Even the owner was out there.
Its a shame because a groupon is a great way to find a new place. Had it been better, I would have been back for a full price treatment.

First of all no type of customer service. Got a massage and the smell of the room was very unpleasant was not refreshing at all. The linens on the massage table had a funny smell not to mention the oil used, smell very ranstid. I IThe products used on my face for the facial smell old… never experience any of this at any other spa. I felt like I needed a bath. No friendly service given. I don’t care to ever go back there much less to recommend someone else. The gratuity they charge is outrageous. They shampoo ur hair once and if I can say that is conditionbut I don’t think so. Got my hair blown out. Very dry… don’t know what kind of products they use. No type of fragrance that lingers. Can’t wait to take a shower.

I was here on a groupon as well several months ago. (Broke up my coupon into two visits) What a scam. No chocolate or Champagne ever. Make up done by a kid. I do a better job myself. Horrible. Glad I only had a blow out. I wouldn’t trust them with scissors. I tipped cash and then upon leaving at the front desk I was shaken down to pay more tip & tax both times. If I knew I would not have given cash. Trust me at the end this was no Deal… I didn’t have time to argue because I was in a rush but I assume they have received a lot of complaints. I no longer see them on groupon.

I’m very appreciative for all the greatly detailed reviews here. I usually research a new place (restaurant, salon or spa) before committing to giving them my business to make sure they are legitimate. But I feel like many people should be reporting these types of places to Better Business Bureau that *require* a tip, or pull the ‘bait and switch’ tactic. So many of these ‘shady’ places remain open, and continue to take advantage of other customers, because no one reports a complaint. Bottom line: if a deal sounds too good to be true, it usually is. A good business, that cares about satisfying their customers, will not only avoid these problems to begin with, but will try their best to ease any issues or concerns that do arise.

I was a happy customer at Karma for years. I always liked the way my stylist did my hair and I found everyone in the salon to be helpful and friendly.
After being a regular/​loyal (weekly) customer for such a long time, I did not expect to be treated like a customer at a used car lot being pushed by a greedy salesperson to pay for an expensive treatment I’d neither asked about nor wanted. After months of unrelenting sales pitches each visit, I finally gave in and agreed to the treatment. I should not have. I should have begun looking for a new stylist once my stylist refused to notice I obviously wasn’t interested. Maybe because I liked the way she did my hair and, I thought, we had a good relationship, I didn’t want to rock the boat. I should have.
The treatment … even after using shampoo that is supposed to rid your hair of the product … has left my hair limp, without any body. It’s horrible. I hate it. And my close friends tell me they’ve never seen my hair look this bad.
I don’t know if my stylist (along with others) is being told to push the product or if it was her idea. When I asked once why she wanted me to have it, she replied, «Because it will make my job easier.» Fantastic. Over $ 200 to make her 30 minute wash and style easier every week.
I will never go back. They lost me as a client. Obviously, they will find more. I am easily replaced and they’re a few dollars richer because I finally gave in and got the treatment. And, to them, maybe that’s all that matters.

I’m sorry but you guys need to be a little bit more professionals. I had an appointment at 5pm, waited until 5:30 till someone realize I was there. Then they switched my appointment, the room wasn’t clean so they had to clean while I was waiting. There were no tea as said on Groupon, it was tap water (could at least put some lemon for flavor). I finally got my massage and I had no idea what’s the professional name. She didn’t tell, nor didn’t knock on the door while I was getting dressed. I asked to schedule the body massage and facial so after waiting another 10minutes I found out nobody schedule my facial. So I wasted my time because the masseuse gave me a half body massage but she didn’t even touch my arms. She kept touching my neck and putting oil on my hair. I’m really sorry but I can’t give you a good review or come back to your place. You guys have a lot to learn.

Ok so got a groupon for my birthday. It was located a little farther then I normally would travel for a salon (35 minutes) but I was happy to get it anyway! I called and asked about a gel manicure the day of and the told me they could get me an appointment before my scheduled services. So my apt was at 2 for my Swedish massage and facial. The receptionist was nice but it was odd bc she foil in her hair. Meaning she had just gotten her hair done during working hours. Strange, don’t usually see that salons. But anyways I had a seat and was greeted by the very friendly nail tech almost instantly. She was very friendly started doing my nails right away. The only issue I had was that I couldn’t really see the nail colors bc it was very dark in t salon. So luckily I picked a nice color out. The nails came out great and she did a great job.
30 minute Swedish massage was next. I was take to the spa in the back which was a cute little spot with cookies and water set out and some nice comfy chairs. The Groupon stated there would be chocolates and champagne, but sadly there were none = (. I filled out a questionnaire and was take to a small room divided by a screen a few minutes later. My masseuses name was Jackie. She was very nice. I thought It was odd that she was whispering to me at first until i realized that there was a person in the room getting ready for a massage. This was a bit awkward bc I have been to a lot of spas and had a lot of massages and services and this was the first time I had ever seen this. There was a small gap in the screen so I felt a little uncomfortable getting undressed. Then I get ready and Jackie comes in. She was very strong. I needed that bc I like a full pressure massage. I thought it was going to be a full body but it was only on the upper part of my body. The massage was good at times and bad at times, She needed to use more oil bc at times there was a lot of friction and it hurt when she got to my neck it hurt a lot bc my hair was getting pulled and massaged as well. I asked her to focus on my shoulders, which she did happily. All in all it was good and she was very nice, just hurt a few times here and there.
30 minute facial was next. Nikki was cool. Fun to talk to and did a nice job. A lot of the reviewers said it was a smelly facial but it wasn’t at all. In fact my favorite part was when they used the chocolate stuff on my face. I wanted to eat my own face for a while there. My skin looked great after and today as well. Yes she does rub a lot of lotion on your skin but that’s a facial! lol
All in all I had a nice experience. I thought it was odd though that several of the girls that worked there were getting treatments done as patrons were in the store. And also that the 15% service charge added onto the Groupon could only be paid in cash. A lot of people are complaining about those charges but they cover the tip. You are generally supposed to leave at least 20% on spa services, this was less then that. Also I only paid $ 15 bc i only did two treatments that day. I guess the key to using the groupon if u can’t swing paying $ 30 all at once is to break up the services. It was also a very nice salon. The pedicure stations were beautiful! If they were closer I would go back.

This place deserves no stars! Groupon was such a horrible deal. Service was ridiculously bad. I HIGHLY recommend you do not waste your money here! Save it and go to a REAL spa/​salon.

I’m giving this review because I never even got a chance to use the service. I was one of the dumb ones to buy a groupon for this place a while back. The salon rarely if ever, answered the phone. When they finally did, it was the rudest person I have ever spoken to in my life. How can they hired such nasty people! or months on end, they had no appointments available! I kept calling and caling. On one occassion I was assured that the groupon would be extended. But after several dozen calls… still no appointment! now my groupon has expired and my only option is to use the measely credit towards their over priced services. Why would i want to spend any money on these people if they obviously don’t care enough to offer any kind of acceptable service!

I bought the Groupon a while ago, and realized I needed to schedule it before it expired. As others have said, it’s difficult to get a live person on the phone. The message is very bitchy and NOT customer friendly. Due to the demand, they extended the Groupon, but it does seem to be an on-​going special.
I finally got an appointment for yesterday morning (¹²⁄₁₄). It was snowing but it wasn’t bad. The massage was pretty good. It wasn’t deep tissue, it was only ½ an hour, and if you have any serious issues, you would need to go more often.
I really liked the facial, very soothing an relaxing. I waited a bit between the spa services and salon services, but I wasn’t in a hurry. Probably if I were in a hurry I would have been peeved. I liked the shampoo/​blow out. Hair looked great. The makeup was a bit more than I use for day, but I was going to a party so it needed to be darker than usual and the girl, Nikki, I think, was amenable to toning it down.
It is typically expected to pay the tip on the «non-​Groupon» price. I paid a bit extra since it was a bad weather day and the overall experience was OK (with a check, most salons DO NOT charge tips on credit cards!!!).
I do wish they did not have a voicemail recording when their phone is answered. It is not customer friendly. I don’t know if the atmosphere was more casual because of the weather, but seemed like that could use some work.
ETA: I looked at some pictures of me later in the evening after being bundled up and in the snow, and I must say that I looked HOT!!!

My girlfriends and I came here for the groupon deal; Swedish massage and facial, a blowout and makeup application. We were in the same room for the massage/​facial; each was a full half hour and it was a very calming experience. The girl who did my blowout and makeup was fantastic; my girls said the same about their experience. We were worried after reading all the negative reviews on here, but overall we had a great time.

I wanted to not believe the reviews on this place. I figured «eh, it’s a $ 25 dollar groupon it’s worth a shot, how bad can it be?» I found the answer– BAD! It’s very obvious this is not a professional establishment, the staff are not trained well (I have my doubts if they have any training at all), have no standards set by management, and I truly believe this place is only open to serve as a social hub for the employees.
I guess I’ll start from the beginning. I scheduled an appointment months ago (and months in advance because I couldn’t be at the spa before 4 p.m. and I wanted a Friday so I was willing to wait) When the week of my appointment arrived I decided to call and confirm since it had been months since I had spoken to this place. To my surprise I didn’t have a 4 p.m. appointment anymore… no, no, no, it was at 2:00– but oh wait, some of my services weren’t scheduled or were scheduled hours after the original 2:00 time. STRANGE. The receptionist seemed annoyed I was even bothering her with this and didn’t even offer an apology, but I ended up rescheduling… months later.
So now it’s time for my appt, I’m excited and get there about 5 minutes before my friend. No big deal, right. The place is cute and I sit down on a very comfy leather couch. Within that 5 minute time-​span I hear at least 3 separate employees making weekend plans, another greets her boyfriend at the door, and another is just sitting in a chair doing her own hair. Seriously?
Okay fine it’s time for our appt, a woman sportin a very unprofessional pair of flip-​flops comes and gets us for our massage and facial. We get ready in a room together because apparently changing rooms aren’t provided for your privacy, and we wait for the staff.
I had my massage first, and let me tell you I should have just stopped and went home from there– because if I did my review would have been much different. The girl was great. She was very professional and you could tell from her presence that she was unlike the other staff members.
Next came the facial, which was basically a girl rubbing lotion into my face for 30 minutes with cigarette breath. Eh. Not great, but not ruining my day.
We next waited in a another room. Once again, comfy couches, but no champagne and chocolates. Instead there was a stale platter of fig newtons sitting on a table with warm water. Luxurious.
Should have still went home at this point… but no, I wanted my hair and makeup done because we were going out to dinner afterwards… stupid stupid me.
We next get out our hair washed in preparation for the style. The girl washing my hair tells me that another girl will be doing my hair and makeup (now mind you this was the same girl that gave me the «facial» so I’m a little suspicious when she is also the shampoo girl, but hey I’m thinking maybe they all do their part… team work and all)
She walks me to the chair for my style… and then begins to brush my hair. I think «hmmm this is strange she said someone else was going to be styling my hair.» She then starts to clip my hair haphazardly and begins blow-​drying. I’m thinking great… she’s not asking or looking, to see how my hair is cut, how I want my hair, or really anything. She starts blow-​drying my hair tips (no no no hairstylist 101 don’t blow-​dry the tips! especially with thin hair!) she doesn’t even wait for the root to dry before she goes on to the next section. after maybe 3 minutes of blow-​drying my hair (this whole process took about 5 minutes total) She finally asks me how I part my hair (yes, a question!) I tell her to the side… she parts it in the middle! When she’s finished, I look in the mirror and I see the worst hair style of my life. My hair is flat, flat, flat… and with NO STYLE. I’m thinking great, I’m gonna have to go home and do my hair again because I can’t even put it in a ponytail because my bangs look ridiculous parted down the middle.
My friend looks at me and snickers… yeah it’s bad. So now onto the makeup. She asks me how I normally do my makeup (things are looking up) and I tell her how. She doesn’t ask me anything else after that and just goes to work. Less than 2 minutes later she reveals the makeup job (mind you they charge $ 65 regularly for this service)…and I’m about to cry. She asks me what’s wrong and I explain that the eyeliner isn’t even at my lashline it’s in the MIDDLE OF MY EYELID! She goes, «oh you wanted it that way?» C’MON! She «fixes it» by smearing an ungodly amount of eyeliner onto my eye. She shows me again what she did, and I was so close to tears I just said fine. She obviously wasn’t capable of doing makeup.
I later pay for the «tip» for these terrible services, but I had to first wait for the receptionist to finish painting her nails and for the other employees to let each other know that the waxing machine was free for them to finish getting ready for the night… UGH.
and I’m out of characters for my review but you get the point… don’t go!

Like other reviewers, I purchased a Groupon and was NOT at all satisfied with the bait and switch they offered me. I’ll skip right to my list of grievances:
Karma is in a very large space, but they are massively short on staff. I was trying to coordinate schedules to go to the spa w/​4 girls. I tried making appointments in 3 different months, calling weeks and weeks in advance, and they never had any appointments on the weekend or for 4 people. I wound up being able to go with only one other person. So they’re clearly biting off more than they can chew.
Second, the Groupon I purchased said the salon visit would come with «chocolate and champagne.» There was an empty champagne bottle in a bucket in the waiting area. The girl who led us there picked up the *empty* bottle, and said «here’s some champange.’ When I realized the bottle was empty, I found an employee and asked for another bottle. She told met they «just ran out» but that she would send someone out to the store to pick some up. Needless to say, we never saw any champagne (or chocolates.)
First, we had a half hour massage and half hour facial. The massage and facial were lovely, worth at least a 4-​star review on their own. I’ve never gotten a facial before, so I’m not sure what I can compare it to. It felt like a face massage. But it was pleasant. The massage was upper body only, and felt nice.
But then things really took a turn for the worse. We were supposed to have a blow-​out and styling, and a make-​up application «with instruction.» It was a decent hair wash and blow dry, of the sort you might normally get for free with haircut at a place like Super Cuts. But it was bare minimum. Then, the same girl who did the hair washing slapped some make-​up on my face in about 5 minutes, with no instruction (or offer of instruction.) (The «original» price for this is $ 75!) My thought was «okay, Karma, you’re now down to 3 stars, max.»
Then came the biggest problem: the deceptive pricing, where they get you in the door with the promise of a great value only to more than double your cost with an enforced tip that violates the terms of the Groupon. Karma Salon charges outrageously inflated «original» prices for their services (e.g., $ 75 for super basic makeup application.) But they frequently offer Groupons for $ 25, as well as an everyday offer where you can purchase a $ 25 gift card for those same services, which are «originally» valued at $ 200. I doubt anyone actually pays these ‘original’ prices.
When I went to leave, I was told there was a *mandatory* $ 31 tip, which is 15% of the (super-​inflated) «original» service price. First problem: I’m not sure how they came up with $ 31. 15% of $ 200 is $ 30. Also, they had a flyer in the waiting area with a list of the ‘original’ prices of the services that go along with the Groupon. I had calculated what 15% of the ‘original’ prices listed on their flyer would be, and it was something like $ 27. (Also, the flyer said the «blow-​out» was worth upwards for $ 40. But a woman without a Groupon was checking out in front of me after having received a blowout paid $ 25 for it.)
But this was all minor, compared to the big problem that nothing in any of the fine print of the Groupon says that a 15% tip is mandatory. I very politely explained this. The girl checking me out (the designated receptionist was gone) became quite upset, and kept insisting it was required. I said that I typically do tip on the full value, but that I also like to give more or less depending on the service, and that the service I had gotten for my hair and make-​up was sub-​par. She didn’t budge.
I then asked to speak to a manager, who claimed that it was «really weird» that my Groupon didn’t say the tip was required, because «the other ones all say this» and «I should have been told this when I booked the appointment.» But I wasn’t told this, and it’s her responsibility as a manager to ensure that her employees inform clients. She then tried to guilt trip me, saying that the employees work ONLY for tips, so that if I don’t tip they don’t get paid for the work they did. If that’s true, it’s not legal!
After going back and forth with the manager for a long time, in a very public way, the manager finally said something along the lines of «well, I guess you will just do what you want, I can’t force you.» I wound up handing over a smaller than requested (but still very generous) tip, and left, all of the serenity induced by the massage and facial completely blown out the window.
TL;DR version: avoid this place; it has bad karma!

I got the Groupon for $ 25 which was supposed to include the massage, facial, makeup application along with «Champagne and sweets in the tranquility room.» Nope! They ran out of champagne and sweets at noon, and offered me a lukewarm glass of tap water instead.
And whoever they have answering (or not answering) their phones should be fired. I called 3 times before I got anyone on the phone, and they never bothered to call me back. When I actually spoke to someone, the receptionist was completely nasty when I called to make the appointment (a month in advance) and mumbled something about «Just be aware that if you cancel, you forfeit half your Groupon».
When I went to check out, the receptionist said, «We expect a $ 31 cash tip.» (and no, they won’t put it on the credit card).
I thought that was hilarious. I’m glad I didn’t give this as a gift to someone. I would have been really embarrassed!

I purchased a Groupon deal that included a 30-​minute massage, facial, blowout and makeup application for only $ 25. It seemed like a great deal, but then I realized why everything was so cheap after my visit — their level of service is lacking. The services would be graded as follows:
Massage — 3 out of 5
Facial — 3 out of 5
Hair Wash before blowout — 0 out of 5
Blowout — 1 out of 5
Makeup application — 3 out of 5
The masseuse was really nice, but only gave a mediocre massage, not really hitting all the sore spots, but instead just applying pressure to different areas of my body. The massage area was only semi-​private, separated by flimsy curtain stands.
I haven’t had a facial before so I have nothing to compare this experience to, but after this salon facial, I don’t think that I will be paying for a regular facial out-​of-​pocket anytime soon. Whatever they used to apply to my face reminded me heavily of bathroom cleaner (a scent I am not that fond of).
The lady who handled washing my hair, doing the blowout and makeup was very brisk and rough. STAY AWAY from her. She tugged really hard on my hair and just ran her hand quickly through it … this was the «washing» part. My sister came with me to use her Groupon deal that same day and she asked my lady «oh, do we HAVE TO wash our hair before the blowout? I really don’t want my hair to be washed if that is okay.» When I asked her why she said this afterwards, she said it was because she saw the lady rough-​housing my head and didn’t want to go through the same thing.
Never again will I go back to this salon. Even if I was paid to go.

I’m not sure this salon would be one I’d ever return to without the certificate I had.
Unlike most posters here, I purchase a certificate for a massage, facial, hair cut, and pedicure for $ 50. I thought it was a great deal.
Issue 1: Although it doesn’t state it on the certificate, they only let you use one service at a time. That means having to drive back to the salon 4 times. Despite their not being that busy, they were pretty strict on this. They were also very strict about rescheduling. I had gone to the salon with friends and occasionally a friend wouldn’t be able to use their certificate and would let someone else take the service with the certificate. The salon wouldn’t let us substitute someone for the service. This meant that they would rather we wasted the service (and they receive zero tip) than someone who wasn’t the original owner of the certificate use it!
Issue 2: I’ve had lots of facials before and this one was the most lackluster I’ve ever had. Their creams were cold to the face, and they never used steam or anything to clear out my pores. Two of the rooms used for facials /​massages share a low wall, so you can hear pretty much anything that goes on in the other room.
Issue 3: They do NOT have much experience cutting hair. The girl I had washed my hair very roughly and let me drip wet hair to her chair. Once there, she would barely cut any of my hair (I had asked for 2 inches off and she was VERY reluctant to cut it). I’m not sure she even had much experience cutting hair. Even when I told her I wanted my bangs out of my eyes TWICE she didn’t do so. In addition, she dropped the comb she was using TEN times. I probably have more of that disinfectant they have in my hair than the shampoo cleaned out previously. When complete, I felt like she was rushing to finish and the blow dryer felt like it was going to burn my scalp. She’d bragged to her co-​workers that she finished in 45 mins. Well it certainly felt like a rush job!
Overall the girls are nice and personable but lack quite a bit of skill when it comes to facials, haircuts, and how to run a salon.

I was very tempted to trash this place just because getting a hold of someone there is harder than getting in touch with Jesus. I waited 2 business days before anyone returned my call to set up an appointment. The lack of a receptionist really puts a damper on their customer service scores. I don’t understand why they don’t have someone answering the phones. Actually I do know why, but i’ll get back to that point later.
So I got a Groupon for this place for Christmas. For $ 25, you get a half hour facial, half hour swedish massage, hair and makeup, champagne and fruit. Pretty sweet deal huh? I mean you can’t beat that w/​a stick! Now, when I arrived, I was struck by how nice everyone was and how nice the interior was. It looks like a legit spa/​salon. My facial was very calm and relaxing and my massage was kind of «eh». Now here is where things started getting a little odd. The girl who greeted me was also my masseuse. Umm… ok. I guess that’s not completely out of the norm. Hair was done and then the hair stylist went on to do someone’s manicure and pedicure later on in the day. Everyone does everything here. I saw one girl do someone’s hair, then go on to do someone else’s makeup then go on and give a manicure/​pedicure. That’s just so odd to me! Why don’t you have someone dedicated to one specific job?
So later, they offered me coffee, which I kindly declined because I saw that the half and half container had been sitting out since I’ve been there, which at that point had been 2 hours. And it was it in same spot where they mix the hair dye. Hmm… Coffee with cream and sugar please– hold the hair dye chemicals! No thank you!
So now you may ask why am I giving this place a decent review after all the wrongs? Well for $ 25 and all that service, it can’t be beat. I got a decent facial, my hair and makeup was really nice and the people were really nice. I wasn’t expecting a crazy fantastic experiance and I left there pretty happy.

I’m so conflicted writing this review due to very high points and very low points. The fact that I used a groupon and, therefore, did not spend too much, made it a better experience than I think it would have been otherwise.
First, I felt ANCIENT. Mind you, I’m in my early 30s. My mere presence, however, increased the average age significantly.
I was greeted rather rudely by a girl who looked to be about 16, and who appeared to be annoyed by my arrival about 10 minutes before my first appointment. I later found out that she was not the usual desk help, but turned out to be my masseuse. AWKWARD. She gave a pretty good massage, but seemed to be bothered by doing her job — which is odd for someone in a spa (i.e., a place designed to spoil people). I felt a bit uncomfortable, truly not an ideal situation for a massage.
My similarly super-​young looking esthetician was really sweet, if a bit awkward. The organic facial seemed a little odd to me, but was quite relaxing. I have no basis for comparison on the facial, but I think I’d rather a more traditional deep-​cleansing kind in the future or one that involved less yucky smells. She was really careful to address allergens beforehand, which is an important touch.
Erika, who did my hair and makeup, was terrific. I upgraded my groupon for $ 20 and she gave me one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had. She made me feel really comfortable, and that’s a tough thing for me in a spa-​type-​environment. I would highly recommend going to her if you live in the area.
The space seems like it was converted by Trading Spaces (the show from cable… convert a room on little money). It’s cool but there are certain things, like sheets partially covering the ceiling by the couches in the back, that make it seem temporary and cheap. The plinky music in the massage/​facial room was an appropriate choice, but had to be played really loudly to drown out the outside noise (even though the salon was not busy). Robes were one size and kinda small for those of us who are not a size 4, and I wasn’t offered slippers like other patrons were. Nothing that really killed the experience, but noticeable nonetheless.
The staff hung around in groups and seemed to be talking about the customers. That could be paranoia on my part, but for a spa that advertises «help wanted» in large signs on the front windows, they seemed to do a lot of hanging out.
I’d much rather go to one of the spas in Bergen County, where a seamless and customer-​friendly atmosphere are emphasized… even at a higher price. But if you live around Lake Hiawatha and need a haircut, give Erika a call.
