History
Established in 1927.
The 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa is one of the original North Carolina landmarks, built when the waters of Lake Lure first began to fill. Over the years, the Inn has hosted a diverse range of celebrities from F. Scott Fitzgerald, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Emily Post, and Calvin Coolidge. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey during the filming of Dirty Dancing. The Inn also served U.S. soldiers during WWII as a place to rest and recuperate. Today, the Inn has been beautifully restored by the present owners and it is the place for local residents and tourist alike. A visit to the Inn is to «step back» in time. While there, please ask some of the locals who visit there often about the Inn’s ghost. Few can avoid being moved by a body of water National Geographic magazine selected as «one of the 10 most spectacular man-made lakes in the world.»
