Phoenix Inn Suites – Lake Oswego

Although the hotel seemed dated when I arrived, the room was perfectly clean, the linens (especially the towels and washcloths) were high quality, and the continental breakfast was great. It’s the small things like offering Stevia for coffee (they serve Seattle’s Best), and having TV remotes that are sanitized between guests. The bed was very comfortable (slightly firm like I like it) and the pillows were great.
Will be back for sure.

Very outdated. I have stayed twice in the last month (two different rooms) and had issues with cable and room temp. Hallways and stairwell had a stale urine smell. Mold/​mildew in the rooms bathroom. Breakfast was great and staff seem eager to assist. Whatever they used to clean the indoor pool left a gazillion little fibers floating which would stick to your arms and would get into our kids mouth. The front staff acknowledged it, but were unable to take care of it. I’d go back if nothing else was available. On a bright side, they do have a nice suite with 3 beds… Perfect for families.

Not the nicest place i’ve stayed in, but for a one-​nighter it was okay.
The front desk was friendly enough, but you could tell she definitely wasn’t ecstatic about working there.
They have a 24-​hour pool & gym. Free wifi & a Chevy’s Mexican Restaurant, Applebees & Olive Garden right next door (within walking distance). Depending on where you are in the hotel, you can definitely hear the road noise. Luckily our room was facing the restaurant side, so it wasn’t too bad.
The breakfast in the morning was rather disappointing. Their «fresh fruit» options were oranges, apples & canned pears. The eggs were the frozen kind you can find on breakfast sandwiches in the freezer section. They ran out of forks & water for people as well. The seating area is very small & packed in tight, you’re basically eating with the people sitting at the table next to you whether you like it or not.
I don’t think i’ll suggest coming back here again, but that’s what I get for letting someone else make hotel reservations for me.

My stay was a blast from the past. My room was very outdated but super clean. The bed was low to the ground and the mattress was very old and lumpy. The room only came with decaf coffee so that cost my rating a star. I love my caffeine… I was very surprised that I had no toilet pape. There was 2 holders and they were both empty. the staff was friendly and helpful. The noise from the I-​5 had waken me up a couple of times. However, the breakfast was very delicious. They had hot and cold items that were pretty good. I don’t think I will stay here again but I would eat here again.

We had a wonderful stay. The front desk staff was very welcoming. The pool was very warm. That was my favorite part because most indoor pools are still too cold in January. The breakfast was great and the breakfast staff was the best. They were always asking what we needed and Were very available. The room was clean. Some people complain about the traffic noise but I thought it was like a white noise. It didn’t bother me at all in fact I thought it was very soothing. The room had great water pressure. We have to visit Portland very often to see doctors for out son, so I am definitely going to be staying at this hotel again.

When we come to town for family gatherings we stay at Phoenix Inn. It’s no 5star hotel. Considering we are just there to sleep, it does the job. I am a single mom with 4 kids and the family suite with 3 queen beds is great for us. $ 135 per night and I don’t have to buy adjoining rooms. And the free breakfast is great for us with 4 kids. Enough variety to satiate the masses; they like making their own waffles. It’s a good value and works well for us. If you do the first floor family suite, you are at the end of the building. No problems with sound and the pool is right across the hallway. My sister and brother in law stayed down the street at the Hilton Garden Inn and had to buy adjoining rooms for almost twice as much and the breakfast there was $ 12 per person. Phoenix Inn is our choice for sure. Staff is very helpful and attentive. Furnishings aren’t new or stylish but sufficient.

I wish it was possible to give zero stars, but it isn’t. Ok, here we go.
Let me preface this review by saying I travel very often for business (several times a month) and because my usual hotel was booked (Marriott property) and so was the Hilton near it, I went on
to find another hotel near my office in Lake Oswego. The Phoenix in was one of the only ones available RIGHT in LO and I wish I had just stayed in Portland or in Tigard or something, because this experience was possibly the worst I’ve ever had with a hotel in all of my years of traveling.
The Phoenix is right on the freeway and is a very old building that is not well kept nor has it been updated in years. It is falling apart, things are dingy and old and the management doesn’t really seem to have any desire to maintain the property.
When I checked in, I was given a room on the 2^nd floor. The halls and elevator are old and there were letters and numbers missing from the signs on the wall.
I go up to my room and immediately am more grossed out than just purely disappointed. The furniture is old dingy. The bedspread is old and the sheets are thin and had a hole in them. The walls were SO thin that you could not only hear the freeway noise, but also the conversations of the people in the room next door. They decided to blast their TV all night too, so that was appreciated.
The phone wasn’t working in the first room, and then in the morning when I got up to take a shower, the light above the bathroom sink and the hairdryer both weren’t working. It would be nice if I could have called down to the front desk… oh wait.
I throw my hair up in a bun and go down to the front desk, with all of my stuff in tow, to request that I be moved to another room. They didn’t have any available at the moment, but said when I come back tonight, they will have an open room. I took my stuff with me to work and came back again that night.
Room #2– it was like groundhog day. The same gross room, just 2 floors up. Thank god that the tiny hairdryer actually worked so I didn’t have to go into work the next day with wet hair.
I am not ever one to complain about a hotel, but I feel that I had to get this review out here to warn people about this place. I had several people from work offer to let me stay at their home after I showed them pictures of this place. I’m mad at myself for not doing more research before booking this «hotel» and I will never be staying here again.
I’m also going to post this review on every travel website I can find, because it was that bad. I will be contacting
about this as well.
Save yourself a lot of heartache and book another place to stay. There are several hotels in LO and in Tigard, which is close by.
I’ve posted pictures of everything I’m talking about to illustrate just how bad everything is.

Pretty much a dump. Right beside the highway and the traffic causes a lot of noise. There is literally a fake leather couch that is colored money green. The gym area is awful. If you work out don’t stay here. Convenient to several chain restaurants. The staff is pleasant and the rates are affordable, the hotel is just very outdated and old.

Phoenix Inn deserves the right of being rated five stars, because of the excellent customer service. Even though the hotel itself is just your typical «average joe», their staff and their kind hearted characters makes up for the stay. Phoenix Inn’s front desk and building engineer is the main reason being for my five star rating. I would like to give a special thanks to Gino, the hotel’s building engineer, for helping is in many ways possible. I would surely say, Phoenix Inn was our home away from home.

Room was clean. Walls were so thin I heard people walk by and party going on next door. Breakfast is good except biscuits and gravy. Gravy was weird tasting. So if you have ear plugs your good to go.

Don’t do it. This place is lackinng in all the right areas. The Hotel is directly over the freeway so good luck getting any sleep unles you like the sounds of big rigs driving by at 70 miles an hour all night long.
Things to watch out for:
1. The hotel is older so sound goes right through the walls.
2. No real soap. The one piece of soap they give you is the size of a quarter (no joke)
3. The shower has a dispenser on the wall for shampoo and soap. (Ghetto)
4. The glasses in the room were dirty and the only place to fill them up is in the bathroom sink. Gross…
5. The TV is from the early 90’s and makes a high pitched buzzing the entire time it is on.
6. The price is out of their league — we paid over $ 100 a night for a room that should have cost and I’m being generous here $ 80.00 a night.
Things they do have:
1. Free parking
2. Free Wi-​Fi
3. Free eggos for breakfast (if your into that type of fake food)
In short if you like sleep and want to be comfortable with your surroundings drive further up the road and find a hotel that in not built on it.

A good hotel, we had a little trouble getting to it because by the time you see it, you are already past the exit.

I don’t know what the deal is with reasonably priced hotels and hair! Send me to one of these places and odds are I find a hair somewhere I’m not wanting to find one on!
On our trips to Portland I usually make the reservations for where we are going to stay, but on this particular trip the chief decides she wants to care of it. Sure enough the second she shows me where we’re staying I get a bad feeling. BUT she reassures me her dad stays there all the time and he loves the place. So we get there, check in and what’s the first thing I find when I make my usual inspection of the bed? That’s right you guessed it, a hair! On the pillow of all places! I’m not kidding this has happened in at least 3 or 4 hotels over the past 5 years or so! It’s not like I stay at hotels once a month it’s a few times a year!
But I didn’t want to make anyone feel bad about the place they chose and I deal with it. If that would have been it everything would have been fine, but it wasn’t. The next morning we find out the shower drain is clogged and I can’t remember now but the toilet had some problem too. At this point my friend is feeling pretty bad and so I suggest we go talk to someone about everything. All we wanted at that point was to cancel the rest of the days we were supposed to stay there and go somewhere else but all they said they could do was move us to another room. By that point she was pretty upset and I was close to going superfly tnt guns of the navarone mushroom cloud laying MFer on someone. (I love Pulp Fiction) So I decide I’m going to call Expedia and see what they can do. I get customer service on the phone and I’m not yelling but I make sure I talk loud enough that anyone in the lobby can hear me saying what the problem with the room is. At that point the guy behind the front desk comes over and asks to speak with the person. He talks to her for a few minutes and comes back and says he’s going to credit us for the entire bill including the one night we were there. Problem solved.
The best part was that when he was done with the paperwork he says he’s going to send us a complimentary stay so that we can give them another try. Like we’d ever go there again. But we accept since my friends dad likes the place and he’d sleep on a bed of hair for a free stay.
Needless to say we never got the complimentary stay mailed to us, which was no surprise.

My 1^st stay at this chain. I think it’s a great value for the money. Free parking, Internet and breakfast. The room is larger than most inexpensive hotels. Very Clean. The only negative is the freeway noise. Too bad because I really like this place. I stayed at the Crown Plaza next door and you don’t hear the freeway, but it costs more and no free internet.

Ended up here at the end of a 9 hour drive up from California at around 3 AM.
For the $ 80 bucks or so that we paid, it was all right. The rooms were clean and spacious, there was a nice living area with couch and desk so I was able to take out my laptop and do some work. The complimentary wi-​fi was painstakingly slow (even at 3 AM), so anything more than e-​mails would have driven me nuts.
The bathrooms seemed a bit cramped and the hotel overall seemed dated, however everything was clean and comfortable. For the end of a long trip, this was fine as we all ended up falling asleep quickly. If you want to relax and enjoy your stay, I’d probably go somewhere else.
The complimentary breakfast is a nice touch, something to get you going in the morning. Don’t expect much from it though, but hey, saves you a trip to a fast food joint or to the grocery store.
Parking, although cramped and a bit awkward, seemed secure. I didn’t get a chance to check out the pool/​fitness room.
If I’m in the area for a quick overnight, this would definitely be an option.

I have stayed at the Phoenix inn a few times and I have to say was always happy to do so. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I enjoy the breakfast there always taste good.

We stayed at the Phoenix Inn 2 nights (over a Friday and Saturday night) after finding a rather good deal ($ 60/​night) on
. We usually stay at Holiday Inn Express hotels, but this was a better deal (by over $ 40/​night) and offered similar amenities.
We were placed in the room located directly next to the elevator so we affectionately referred to it as the «Hotwire Suite». Though we expected a lot of noise and disturbance because of this, we were pleasantly surprised how quiet it was during our stay.
Overall, the rooms are passably clean, the beds/​linens are decent, there is a pool/​hot tub/​workout center, and they offer a free breakfast and WiFi connectivity. We found the front desk staff to be friendly, helpful, and professional.
Pros: Lots of free parking; located in a nice, convenient area (Easy on/​off to I-​5, several nearby restaurants, Starbucks, a gas station, even a Trader Joe’s!); Pool/​hot tub area is open 24 hours with restricted kids hours; Free coffee and newspapers.
Cons: Breakfast does not offer the greatest selection, seems to be the same every day, and is not frequently replenished (grrr…); WiFi connectivity is spotty at best; In-​shower shampoo/​soap dispenser was kind of weird — no small bottles provided.
I’ll give the Phoenix Inn a solid 3. It’s just not quite up to the quality and execution that the Holiday Inn Express offers, however. I would not opt to pay full price at this Hotel given our experience — the
deals certainly make this hotel a reasonable option.

My wife and I have stayed here several times in the past. Those have been positive experiences.
This time, no smiles. Felt like I was intruding when I checked in at 3 or 4 on a Sunday afternoon. Yes, I was tired. Yes, I had just driven a ways and wanted a place to calm down, but, doggone it, for $ 140 I could really use a smile and a feeling of welcome that just didn’t happen this trip.
The room was clean, the light by the bedside was out (grrr) the toilet paper in the bathroom was down to the last remnantseel we had to ask for more (grrr) and the recycled air just felt stuffy after a night of it.
On the positive side, the shower felt GREAT after a quick morning run, the bed was comfortable, the comfirter light and warm, the continental breakfast was ok, and it was right next door to Chevy’s Mexican Grill where we had a nice meal the night we arrived.
Overall, 3 stars based on previous good experiences, but it will likely not be my first choice in the future… University Inn (downtown Portland) is a better deal, the staff much nicer and more welcoming, a better breakfast, closer to areas of interest, and most likely where I will stay when visiting Portland in the future.

I agree with the first two reviews… this place was great for the price. The hotel is older, and shows a bit of wear. That being said… our room was larger than other hotels we stayed at of this level, and was clean. The breakfast was decent, and the staff were all very nice and friendly. We would stay there again.

You know, no matter how I tried, I just couldn’t find anything wrong with this place. Easy to find, speedy elevators, pube-​free bathrooms, good water pressure, helpful and fun front desk staff, free hot breakfast, in-​room fridges and microwaves, comfy bed and comforter, and… right near the Trader Joe’s. I mean really, how can anyone complain?
Couple all of that with the $ 50/​night rate I got through
(it doesn’t happen often), and I was a happy camper. (I think it’s normally around $ 95/​night.)
I’d definitely stay there again, even without the discount.
