The LASIK Vision Institute

It has been one month since my laser eye surgery here, and I am ready to share my experience with everyone. I have been here five times since writing this review.
The office visits were:
(1) the candidacy appointment (combined with the pre-​op appointment)
(2) the actual laser surgery
(3) one week follow-​up
(4) an unscheduled appointment (see below)
(5) one month follow-​up appointment
Just like the majority of the people, I came in from the Groupon. I have always wanted to have laser eye surgery done, but when I first inquired about it 10 years ago, they instructed me that my eyes were still developing and I was not a candidate for laser eye surgery. When the Groupon appeared I decided to pursue options once again.
I was very hesitant at first due to the abnormal low-​rated Unilocal reviews posted here. At the same time, I figured it wouldn’t «hurt» to schedule an appointment to see if I qualified for LASIK surgery. However, I must admit I was always on my toes throughout my visits here at the LASIK Vision Institute due to its poor Unilocal rating/​reviews. However, the (recent) Groupon reviews were all good.
I never had issues with dry eyes prior to the surgery. After researching it later on, I guess it is very common to have dry eyes after surgery. About 10 days after the surgery (and shortly after my one-​week follow up appointment) I couldn’t handle the dry eyes anymore, despite placing artificial tears every hour (or more often). They allowed me to come in (despite not having a scheduled appointment). I originally declined the punctal plugs at the initial appointment, but came back to purchase them 10 days later. After having them put it, within hours I tell there was moisture on the surface of my eyes. It also reduced the likeliness of «hazy vision» for me (due to dry eyes) from that point forth.
At my 4^th office visit here I finally asked about the poor Unilocal reviews. They told me they recently changed the staff earlier in 2015. And at that point, it made sense to me because everyone was so friendly and professional at all my office visits. I have been very satisfied with the service and results of my laser eye surgery.
I would highly recommend them to anyone seeking laser eye surgery. I encourage anyone else who had laser eye surgery done here to share their experiences. They deserve better recognition for their customer service and value.

Went for the initial appointment and got the same thing as Jaclyn as far as trying to upsell. We opted not to do the upsell and went with the Groupon. They did both of my eyes and now my right eye has double vision. They said I would need readers after the surgery but could see at a duistance. My vision in my left eye is better at a distance but still have issues. When I went back about my double vision and for the prescription for my reading glasses the response was that they ahd never had anyone that they could not get a prescription for reading glasses and suggested I see my regular eye doctor for a further exam. I went ot my regular eye doctor and he said the surgery in my right eye was not correct and could be corrected by lasik. Went back for follow up and was told that the only thing they could do if redo my left eye and blur it so I could get used to seeing the same out of both eyes. WTF!!! I stil have yet to get a prescription for readers from them and was told to come back in a year. For what???

We waited four hours AFTER the appointment time. Horrible! They up-​sold my husband to their special «custom HD» package at $ 1k more. The woman trash talked the «bronze» package saying that only those with 1 or less as a prescription could benefit, and «it’s so outdated and the procedure is so old that we’re actually doing away with that technology. .. «what the F?! I asked her why there’s a Groupon for a procedure that «most» cannot benefit from. She just made comments to the other procedure. There was a man there that had his procedure go wrong and had to come in the next day. According to him, the lens of his eye was exposed after his suggested 5hr nap following the procedure. When I mentioned this to the woman handling finances, she laughed and trash talked about how «sometimes you can’t make everyone happy. .. With him, he didn’t follow care instructions and we can’t be at fault for what happens AFTER you leave our office.» WHAT?! There were so many red flags. Worst «office» ever. Unprofessional staff, ridiculously incompetent front desk staff, and rude techs.

I purchased a groupon for my girlfriend to have her eyes corrected here. I did some research on this company first and found Unilocal reviews from other locations saying that the company gets you in with a low groupon price and then relentlessly tries to upsell you to more expensive packages by trying to scare you about your eyesight. Before buying the groupon, I specifically called the company and asked them why the groupon was called the «Bronze package», and whether we would be upsold at the consultation. They told me that there are no other levels and they’re not sure why they called it that since there is only one level, which is the best they do.
Much to my surprise, they presented us with not just Silver and Gold packages, but they immediately pushed us toward the Platinum package for an extra $ 1000. They try to scare you into it by saying that while it is your choice, you are risking your vision by not doing it. If you go with the cheaper package, you might actually see worse at night, they said.
I called a couple respected LASIK providers in the area and asked them what we should do. It sounds like the LASIK Vision Institute has outdated equipment and is charging the extra $ 1000 to use slightly more current technology. No other LASIK providers I talked to had multiple tiers, but just a flat price for everyone with the best available technology. That’s the way it should be. The $ 1000 extra fee was for «custom HD technology», which is something that apparently is not an industry term from the people we’ve talked to about it.
Overall, this was a terrible experience. We felt like we were taken advantage of and lied to. I had my groupon refunded and will never darken their doorway again.
