Atrium Garden Center

I came here after a few years & I was disappointed. When we walked in to this place there was an employee who saw us walk in & did not even greet us with a simple hello. The employee simply looked at us & continued what she was doing.
We made our way to the back to look at the trees & for the most part they were over priced. Some of the trees here were four to five times more expensive than the same trees at Home Depot.
We made our way back into the building to ask an employee for help & it took quite a while to find some. When we finally tracked down an employee they didn’t seem to want to help us & didn’t seem to care if we were shopping there or not so we finally walked out.
Overall this place surprised me. I do not know if I would return here.

Don’t buy firewood here. They short stack. They sell a «face cord» by telling you it is 200 pieces, it is split very small and when I got a load that was well over 200 pieces it was still 30% short of a full face cord. Stacked in a rack, it measured 34″ X 8′ X 16″. All other reputable firewood places sell by the volume, 4’x8’x16″. Eventually after 2 calls dealing with a counter person who wouldn’t listen and eventually repeatedly said «I don’t care what the definition of a face cord is, we have our own definition, I made a trip to the store. At the store, I immediately was confronted by a very unprofessional counter person. At the start I requested to simply talk with her manager who I had already spoken to on the phone. She told me he wasn’t there. She put the firewood sale sign in front of me and said this is what we sell and nobody els but you ever complains and if you don’t love me it you don’t need to buy from us. I repeated I just want to talk with the manager and if they didn’t resolve it they could come and get the wood or o would be disputing the charge. She told me they would pick up the wood but would not refund the delivery fee or the stacking fee. I again told her I just need to speak with the manager. At this point she threatened to call the police because I was bullying her. At this point she called the manager and he appeared in 2 minutes and agreed to deliver the correct amount, after I showed him photographs and measurements of what was delivered. The manager was polite during our interaction and did resolve the issue, but it t was clear that what they delivered to me was not a mistake but rather their standard amount. The delivery driver was courteous, prompt and neat. It was just too much effort to get the advertised product when there are other options. If you like drama, then by all means, this is the place to go.

I came in here on ⁵⁄₂₃ looking for a specific type of rose — Tropicana tea rose. I asked three people inside and none of them knew if Atrium carried them and they were not friendly at all. One person told me to see the man outside. When I asked the man outside, he pointed to some orange roses and told me I would need to look around. Anyone who knows roses would know that Tropicana roses does not simply mean orange color — they are actually coral. I went by the cashier to ask and overheard a man (possibly the manager) arguing with a customer regarding the price of something. I’ve never been to a nursery with so many workers who will not go out of their way to help a customer or at least be pleasant to them. I called Knupper nearby and they immediately knew the rose and offered to hold some for me. I left without buying anything and went to the other nursery and everyone there was friendly, helpful and knew about flowers. Very disappointed in the service at Atrium and will not be back.

Went here at 7pm on a monday night after a long day of work. Had seen a nice selection of trees from rt 12 while driving down the road before. I tore out some shrubs in front of my home last year and am looking to replace them this spring.
Pulled in to the parking lot after a half hour drive from Grayslake, to be greeted by a woman who came out of the building asking if I needed help.
I responded that I was looking around and wanted to check out the shrubs that they had on the other side of the building. TO WHICH SHE SHOOK HER HEAD NO!!! She said «we’re closed, and a matter of fact, you shouldn’t even be parked in our lot». Highly rude.
Not even a «hey come back when we r open»?!?
Then again I work retail, and sometimes wish I could tell potential customers to piss off. Wonder if they are hiring. I would be so good at not closing sales! Winning! Maybe they are really growing the reefers in there and its all a cover.
Either way I will not be returning. Good luck in the real world flower guardians.

Warning to all future patrons of the Atrium in Lake Zurich.
If you plan on shopping here, please learn from my experience and consider shopping elsewhere.
1. You will only be credited 50% for plants that fail to grow if you install them.
2. Staff was completely rude when explaining the policy.
3. The Atrium’s warranties reflects the quality of products that they sell.
Consider going anywhere else, even Home Depot for better service, better warranties and higher quality plants.

I like the Atrium for several key reasons. A good selection of yard art type items, a wide selection of potters and a nice arrangement of flowers. Although, I’ll admit, I usually come here for the yard art and potters, which can be a bit expensive, but with a little bit of luck, if you hold out you can get it on a good sale.
I’ve also found the staff to be very helpful with any questions you may have and do go out of their way to help you out with even unusual products.

I had my truck breakdown ½ a block away from this place. I was on my way to get it repaired. It was the only parking lot I could pull into without leaving it in the middle of a busy intersection and causing a major hazard. Their parking lot had three cars in it I coasted into the parking lot because my truck was dead. The minute I pulled into the lot the owner of Atrium told me «to get the truck off his property or he would have it towed immediately». I told him I had already had called a tow company and they were on the way. He told me that if it wasn’t gone in fifteen minutes he would make sure it would be. I have actually shopped at Atrium Garden Center before with my wife. I will never again ! So much for giving a helping hand, this guy wanted to kick me when I was down. The tow truck came about 20 minutes later and the truck was towed off his property. If you like to deal with people that have zero empathy for other human beings then shop at Atrium. If you prefer helpful kind considerate people I strongly suggest you go elsewhere for landscape supplies

Very, very pricey but HUGE selection. If you’re looking for something specific, you’ll most likely find it here. However you will pay for that selection. I did find a few good deals at the end of the season on some bushes when they were at 50% but I never would’ve paid the $ 40-​$ 50 they wanted for them earlier in the year. If you’re looking for something common, you’ll find much better prices just about anywhere. If it’s hard to find, you’ll probably do well here for a price.

My first time visiting the Atrium Garden Center was not the experience I was hoping for, unfortunately. The associate who was helping me was incredibly condescending. Being talked down to because I don’t have extensive knowledge of different types of trees was quite vexing and made for an unpleasant experience. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

First of all, you better go say hello to Sinbad the parrot. He is awesome and waiting for you to greet him. After you pay your dues to the parrot, you can take a look around.
This place is pretty gigantic. I’ve mostly come here for smaller plant items or gardening tools, nothing too crazy. It is fun to walk around and look at all
the fountains and statues though!
They have a great selection of plants, and even carry seasonal items like pumpkins and Christmas trees/​wreaths/​etc.

My mom is OBSESSED with this place. I was never really a gardener but they do have some nice things to look at! Friendly staff!

There are great garden centers in the collar suburbs of Chicago, namely Pesche’s or Lurvey’s. However, I had a moment of revelation as I got to explore «nursery row» along Rand Road, spanning from Palatine to Lake Zurich. Of the several big garden centers along the way, Atrium takes the prize as the best there is… anywhere!
I came out looking for a fancy garden arch for something I wanted to do in front of the house. Looking around the usual Menards and Home Depots got me nowhere. I thought I’d venture far out to the distant suburbs in search of the arch I wanted, rather than the flimsy ladder-​like creations most places had.
Giant nurseries like these do not exist around Chicago, given the size of the land they occupy, plus the type of gardeners they appeal to. In an urban/​dense suburban lifestyle, the offerings are for people with generally less space or simply limited to patio/​balcony gardens. Out in the boonies where riding mowers and vast lots of green divide properties, there’s so much more room to be creative with fountains, statues, gazebo structures and… really big trees to plant.
So where do these people get their stuff? Well, Atrium has almost anything you dreamed of, from giant planting urns, to hanging baskets, fountains, topiaries, decorative orbs, stone gargoyles or even an exotic-​looking wooden motorcycle planter. And they had an arch with a gate, just like the one I wanted. If they didn’t, they could have special-​ordered one for me.
The store has 2 floors, with the upper one dedicated strictly to patio furniture. When it comes to big-​ticket items, it makes a notable price difference since there’s no Cook County taxes here.
Outside the main building, Atirum has greenhouse after greenhouse filled with pots and baskets of assorted flowers, vegetables or perennials. It was hard to go through the place without buying more. After nearly an hour and more than $ 300 later, I had a worker loading up my van with the wrought iron arch and a pair of charming clematis vines that will be gracing it in a few days from now.
If you’re hitting nursery row way out in Lake County, make Atrium your first stop on the list. You may find it hard to look anywhere else. While it offers high-​end products, it is not the most expensive by any means, and I can assure you that you’re getting exceptional quality on products for the garden that you can’t find anyplace else. And while you’re there, why not stop by and say hi to Sinbad, the resident parrot who’s right by the entrance?
