My Flavor It! Place

We found this place after taking a mini road trip and couldn’t be more excited with our discovery. Unassuming from the Main Street of downtown Lake Zurich, it feels like you’ve gone back in time to the days of your childhood with the malt shop décor and small town atmosphere.
In addition to cool treats you’ll find hot food items and coffee drinks on the menu, too. Malts, sundaes, cones and blizzards are all served here but the real talk of the town is their shaved ice. The menu board behind the counter lists nearly 30 different flavors of shaved ice to choose from — the possibilities are endless!
Some flavor combination suggestions are provided for first timers but if you’re feeling more adventurous you can try your hand at mixing flavors to create your own one-​of-​a-​kind shaved ice masterpiece. Fair warning though, it’s hard to pick just a few. My Flavor-​It Place = snow cone heaven.

I love the idea of this place. They have the perfect downtown location, walking distance to the lake, right in the center of all the summertime action (Alpine Fest, Rock the Block, etc), cute and spacious store front, and a friendly enough staff. It has all the makings to be awesome! I just think that paying $ 4 for a SMALL cup of shaved ice with syrup in it is considered highway robbery. The prices here are astronomical. C’mon now! I live within walking distance to Flavor It and rarely ever come, even when the kids are begging for a treat — it’s just simply too expensive for what it is.
For the record, I get super frustrated when this place is referred to as an ice cream shop — it’s really not. It’s a shaved ice shop that offers two flavors of ice cream (chocolate or vanilla soft serve). It would be lovely if they actually had some more ice cream options. They could do so much with this place, and they just don’t… it’s a bummer! They obviously found a niche though, as during the summer, this establishment is always pretty busy.

My favorite place to get ice cream! Friendly staff and so many great options. I definitely recommend getting a Brainfreeze!

This is such a great idea for the cute little downtown area. Perfect place on a hot summer day to go and cool off with the kiddos. Kids love the penguin themed décor… okay, I like it too!
There are a ridiculous amount of choices, be prepared!

God I love this shop. I used to work at its former location when I was in high school. My favorite is to mix shaved ice with their vanilla soft serve and put vanilla and coconut syrups on it («wedding cake»). Prices are so low you could go every day. Although that might not be the best for your health. Just LOVE this place and I always go back whenever I’m near Lake Zurich!!!

This place is really cute and the kids get a kick out of the fact that they can flavor anything they want — from milkshakes to smoothies to shaved ice — but for me, an adult on my lunch break, it’s not quite what I’m looking for. My main gripe with My Flavor It Place is that a regular-​sized shaved ice is over $ 4 after tax — are you kidding me? This is just flavoring and ice! I can go to the 7 – 11 and get an extra large sugar-​free slurpee for a quarter of the price. The only reason I would return is that the location is convenient, and sometimes you just need a treat without having to get in the car. I do appreciate that this place has some sugar-​free flavors, and I do think the portions are generous, though I’d rather have less served to me and see the price cut down a bit.
