Beck Center For the Arts

Saw my first musical at this location last night. (Heathers: The Musical). I enjoyed very much the talented cast of this production but the sound was ridiculously loud where we were sitting. (When you walk in we were on the right side, 2^nd row from the top, furthest from the entrance.) At times I could barely hear or understand the lead actor while she sang. Eventually I had to sit and plug my right ear (speaker side) because I was getting an ear ache. Also, I realize there will always be a seat in the house where not every scene can be watched fully, but there were MANY scenes that I, as well as the stranger sitting next to me on the end, could not view because a wall was blocking the stage. Of course, next time I could get there earlier and have my choice of seats, but eventually someone will be stuck with a blocked view.

The Beck put on another amazing performance with HEATHERS THE MUSICAL. Though we were not familiar with the film, we were blown away by the great cast, mostly from nearby college drama programs and a great directing job by Scott Spence. Though the language is blue and the story takes a dark turn, it was hilarious, troubling and worth seeing.

Great entertainment at a cost effective price. Every musical and play I have seen at the Beck Center has been well done. Most recently «The Spitfire Grill».

We came here to see American Idiot, a rock opera. It’s a smaller theater which enables you to see the stage from any seat.

One of several cultural highlights of the holiday season was a performance at the Beck Center of «Mary Poppins». We continue to relish the theatrical talent you can enjoy right here in Cleveland. Having lived in NY city (albeit quite awhile back) and having availed myself of Broadway productions, allows me to feel somewhat qualified to comment.
We have never been disappointed in productions we’ve seen at the Beck and the talent they feature. For instance, Marry Poppins was performed by Rebecca Pitcher who did 3,000 performances as Christine Daae in «Phantom of the Opera» on and off Broadway.
Bert, the chimney sweep, was performed by Matthew Ryan Thompson who was equally excellent. Based on his bio, it appears that the Beck helped groom Matthew’s talent. He likely will have a great acting career ahead of him if this performance was any indication.
Given theater ticket prices on Broadway compared to the very reasonably-​priced tickets at the Beck, the comparatively intimate size of the theater and the caliber of the productions, I hope everyone appreciates the Beck (and other Cleveland theater companies) as much as we do.

I think I am fortunate in the fact that the first time I have been here was to see Evil Dead: The Musical.
It was amazing! They served beer, which the company I was with from Columbus was happy about, and they even had a Splash Zone for the front rows since there was blood being spattered about.
Great show, intimate setting, all around good time.
I loved that the theater wasn’t too big and I could clearly see what was happening.
I am excited once my daughter is old enough hopefully she will want to act in some of the children’s theater productions.
Do yourself a favor and access Lakewood’s amazing theater. Find a show you like at the Beck and check it out. You won’t be sorry!

Really… the production of Hairspray was thoroughly enjoyable and with the exception of a few off-​key song performances, I’d have to put way too much effort to find something wrong. Well Done and thanks for the great entertainment!

Just saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I am not a theatre regular but I’m impressed! Stage production and performances were great. I highly recommend this show and the Beck in general. You can make an evening at the coffee shop and later take in a show.

The Beck Center is unique to Lakewood. There is such a broad range of programming in the arts happening here, that it’s hard to keep track of it sometimes.
There are two auditoriums/​theatres, multiple art galleries, and even the armory in the back, which hosted quite a few parties in my time in Lakewood.
They also offer classes in arts, such as painting, ceramics, jewelry, and I think even glasswork.
This is a fantastic asset to the city, and hopefully a long standing tradition for continuing education and hobbyists.
They’ve recently opened an in-​house café from an old storage room, so it’s good to see them expanding their offering!
