Dr. Shin and Dr. Kang, my awesome acupuncturists, give me my weekly fix of oriental remedies. Eastern medicine takes such a different approach to curing people of illnesses. For example, this particular office treats ailments based on how your organs function.
I’ve had some crazy things done during my sessions — Needling, moksha (burning incense), and back suction, my personal favorite. There are so many other treatments (massage therapy, hypnosis, etc) that one would get overwhelmed. But Dr. Kang explains everything if you ask (or even if you don’t ask) and she’ll make sure you’re comfortable.
The key is to be openminded and make it known to the doctor if you have certain phobias. That said, it is very easy to get over a fear of needles if you can gather some Zen energy and calm yourself. Some of it may seem like bullshit, but trust me, it works.
It is a clean Korean establishment, so it’s preferred that people take off their shoes and walk in socks or barefoot. The place is cleaned often because it’s never super busy — you don’t really have to worry about infections/​bacteria.
