First Federal Lakewood

If you’re looking for a home mortgage that closes on time I would look elsewhere. We are going on a week late to close. The communication has been non existent, apparently you are important to them until its time for them to come through for you. Too many other options out there to go with this bank for your home loan.

Updating my Unilocal review for First Federal. The bank has since followed up wiht me after this review in an effort to make things right. The manager I spoke to has assured me she will follow-​up on our issues. I don’t feel that I can give them more than 3 stars but they do deserve a better review from me for trying to make things right, as much as is possible, after the fact.

I would never go to them again. Financed house only because KW realtor recommended. Despite an excellent credit history received the crappiest of service for measly $ 220K financing.

FFL has been around for a hundred years or something right here in Lakewood. A nice community bank that has all the bells and whistles of the major banks without the sterile, major-​bank feel. They are part of an ATM network so you are never far from a free ATM no matter where you are in the country, you can get auto bill pay and all that stuff too. They are particularly interested in hooking you up if you are trying to buy property or invest in Lakewood — the true definition of a community bank. When we were shopping around for mortgages last year, they were FAR AND AWAY offering us the best deal.
The main branch lobby on Detroit Ave is spacious and even when it’s busy, you won’t have a long wait for a teller. The safe deposit box lady is always pleasant and remembers us when we come in. A great bank I’d recommend to anyone. Especially after coming from our old US Bank branch (see my US Bank review), we feel much more at home with FFL. If you’re looking for a new bank and you live on the west side, you really should check them out.

This is one of the few banks out there that is still depositor-​owned as opposed to having the normal shareholder structure of most modern corporations. I’m not sure if this is the true explanation or not, but I have found that this bank provides consistently excellent service, far exceeding that available at other banks.
In particular, I had a checking account with this bank for several years, during a period of low interest rates, which bore 1% interest during a time when few savings accounts bore more than 1%. This is just one example of the ways in which this bank stands out above the rest.
The staff here are always friendly and helpful. Sometimes there can get to be a line but it usually moves quickly. The ATM branch is not as extensive as many banks, however. This bank is excellent to use if you live or work near one of its branches.
Also, they get bonus points because they once gave me no fewer than THREE silver dollars when I got change from a teller.
