Hairy’s Pet Grooming

I called ahead of time and asked if I was able to do a walk in for a small dog cut. Right when I walked in, the lady immediately said «honey, we’re swamped!» 1. I just called and spoke to a male staff member, 2. I feel so offended when I am automatically called «honey» or «sweetie» as if I am a child and am clueless. I felt automatically shut down the moment I walked in. I was able to get the cut, $ 45 for a crooked cut, barely any fur shaved off or difference. Mind you, I specially asked for the shortest hair cut possible. I had also asked for a nail trim, which was not done. There was NO DIFFERENCE, I should’ve done this myself. Waste of money.

First the good — called on a busy Saturday, thinking we probably won’t get an appointment for a few days. But the very professional gentleman that my husband spoke to was able to get us in the next morning. I arrived about 10 minutes before opening time. The lady was very nice. She looked my dog over, checking the condition of her skin (even made a comment about how nice her skin was & how soft the fur felt). She indicated that since we were the first to arrive, it should only take about 2 hours, depending on drying time of course. It usually takes between 3 – 4 hours so this was a nice surprise. We picked her up & she looked/​smelled good, although I noticed that her chest «mane» looked choppy & uneven. My dog is a wiggler though. OK, no big deal, it’s happened before so I took it with a grain of salt as the saying goes…
Now the bad — later that night I noitced a black speck on her fur. She is all white so everything of color shows up like a beacon on her. I picked it off & to my horror, realized it was a FLEA. Please keep in mind that my dog is almost 6 years old and has NEVER, I repeat NEVER had issues with fleas, ticks, or other parasites.
After my initial shock, I looked at her belly & didn’t see any more but then again, my dog was wiggling so I couldn’t check her all over. I kept an eye on it though & within the next two days I managed to catch & kill two more adults. The next day, I saw yet another flea — what the heck? So I emailed this place through Unilocal — no reply.
I then contacted a local mobile groomer & she advised that while she is able to flea bomb her specialized vehicle after each client, but most traditional groomers inside of a building find it difficult to do that all the time. And if the facility is small where dogs are housed close to each other, cross contaimination with another animal who does have fleas (or other parasites) can occur. It could be that a few fleas were on the groomers’ clothes, anything is possible but they should be more vigilent about it. She advised that I contact this place again & see if they will offer a complimentary flea treatment. So I email again & left a message but again, no reply. In the meantime I had managed to pick off & kill another flea plus I saw on her belly a tiny area where there were a few black dots, hopefully just flea «poop» and not more EGGS!
As stated above, my dog is almost 6 years old & has been going to various grooming facilities since she was a adolescent pup. We never had an issue of cross contamination. Now i have to shell out more money to have someone de-​flea my dog right after already being groomed.
I can’t bash this place entirely since they did a fairly decent job (minus the uneven, choppy mane) but neither can I endorse them because my dog came home with several new unwanted «friends». Just be warned that this could happen again so it is at your own risk. But due to the fact that Hairy’s has not bothered to check nor return my emails to rectify this situation, I will not be a repeat customer. C’est la vie — live & learn, but still disappointed. :-(

Love the staff here and my beagle Alvin loves them too, he’s even coming around to the dryer! After his visit he’s clean and looks great in he’s little scarf. Alvin is always excited when we drop him off and can wait to go explore the back. I feel comfortable leaving him here and I like how they take him back with his own leash on. We took him to petco once and they took him off his leash and put rope around his neck and dragged him to the back! Having adopting Alvin from the humane society I don’t want him to ever feel like his going back!

Took our little bundle of fur for his seasonal haircut and groom the last one before it starts to get cold. Now they have a customer for life!

I took my my little girl in to day to get a full haircut, what a wonderful job wish i would have found her sooner, will definitively recommend Kathy to all my dog friend I cannot recommend a better groomer in our area. She has many years of experience and treats each dog like her very own. Very professional and personable. So happy!!!

After visiting Hairy’s… My little Shaggy needs a new name. Just wish MY «groomer» (hair stylist) did half as good a job.
The staff rocks… And I didn’t feel like I was being judged for every knot untangled, every burr removed… Yep Shaggy is one of those.
Nice to be able to add a tip and still pay less than the dog and cat store. Yeah you know where I’m talking about.
Won’t go anywhere else. Ever.
