This summer, my apartment, dog and yard had the world’s worst flea infestation. I spent $ 140 over two weeks trying to kill the fleas myself using home remedies, and NOTHING worked. Even my dog’s normal flea meds (and several other flea meds I tried) did NOTHING. It turned out that Santa Ana, where I live, was having an epically horrific flea epidemic, and the little buggers were like super-fleas…immune to EVERYTHING.
I was going out of my mind and practically having a nervous breakdown every time I stepped into my apartment. No matter how I cleaned, they multiplied. There were thousands of them, and they would pile onto me the moment I stepped in the door. I was covered in bites. My poor boyfriend visited my apartment and tried to help me get rid of them several times — we washed my bedding over and over, vacuumed, used Borax, flea bombs, flea spray, natural remedies… you name it, we tried it. It didn’t even slow them down. It was the worst nightmare I have ever experienced.
I inquired with Terminix and Orkin, both of whom tried to do a sneaky bait-​and-​switch with me by quoting me a super low price over the phone, telling me that one spray would guarantee me flea-​free for three months (through the end of summer and flea season), booking a session with me at that price, and then sending me an email stating in small print that by having them come to spray for fleas, I was agreeing to a yearlong contract requiring several more visits for much more cash per visit, which ended up adding to several hundred dollars. I was told NONE of this over the phone. Luckily, I read the fine print and was livid at the sneakiness. When I called and demanded to know how much just for a single treatment, no contract included, they hemmed and hawed, insisting that treating flea infestations ALWAYS requires multiple sessions, and then finally quoted me $ 295!!! For a single treatment!
That’s when I told them to shove off, and instead found Bob and Lethal Exterminators on Craigslist. Everything was straightforward, he came over right away, charged me only $ 95 for the session, sprayed the entire yard and apartment. He told me when he was done that it had been an especially awful infestation. He was careful to spray in every nook and cranny, even moving all of my furniture away from the walls, spraying in all corners of the yard, under my bed, etc. etc. He gave me a 90-​day-​guarantee through the end of flea season (basically, if I see any more fleas, just call him and he’ll come back and re-​spray for free). However, he said, he’s never had to come back yet.
I had to leave the house overnight to give the flea spray time to work and dry out. When I stepped back in the next day, I braced myself for it not to have worked — nothing else had up to that point — and for fleas to jump all over my legs.
The apartment radiated with the beautiful silence of death — the death of thousands of fleas. It was possibly the most beautiful moment of my life.
These people are HONEST, they are QUICK, they are EFFECTIVE, and they are AFFORDABLE. It’s been several weeks and NOT A SINGLE FLEA have I seen. My dog is happy, I’m happy, my boyfriend is happy, and life is good. Lethal Exterminators are just brilliant geniuses, period. There are not enough superlatives for how happy I am with their service. Hopefully I’ll never have an infestation again, but I know that if I do, I’ll be calling Bob at Lethal Exterminators and I will never, ever again in a million years use Orkin or Terminix.
