this is my favorite local location. even at the buttcrack of early morning on a saturday the employees are genuinely friendly and gracious. quick check out appreciated as well ;D

We’ll never return! All we wanted was a gold fish. For our son. Who has autism. apparently our tank was to small. she said our fish would die. Even though the tank in the store. had dead gold fish floating around. Her customer service doesn’t even deserve a full star

I get the petco brand food «Merrick,» because my dog is allergic to a lot of ingredients in other foods. I get the limited ingredient one. This is what I came in for, but since I had recently moved to Tacoma I didn’t know my way around the store.
When I entered the store they immediately asked if I needed help finding anything and I asked for the Merrick dog food and they brought me over the the section for it.
I had brought my dog with me too because I like getting her out of the house and exposed to as many new things as possible even though she’s 14 years old.
They thought she was really cute and gave her some love which always makes me happy.
It’s a great store, good prices, and it has what I need for my dog :)

I go to this store all the time but will not be returning after my latest visit. I went in to buy a thunder shirt and some treats for my dog. When I got to the register I asked about food to help my dog gain weight. He’s been small ever since I adopted him. The girl at the cash register replied «yeah I was going to say something about that but didn’t want to be rude.» Then proceeded to tell me about the variety of food that would be best for him. She called the manager over to help me and they both made it seem like I was abusing my dog. I was furious! I would NEVER abuse my dog and I don’t appreciate the implication. They were completely rude. I’ll definitely be taking my business elsewhere.

I started going to this Petco because I liked the toy selection for «tough chewers» better than the other pet store. The reason why I’m posting this review is because although the employees are very friendly, there are a few who are down right obnoxious. God forbid you took your puppy to training classes that are not provided by Petco… I’ve faced countless questions, comments, and marketing tactics to try and get me to enroll my pup in their classes and future adult classes. I understand that it’s their job to promote, but when you knock other trainers and flat out say how expensive my choice was, you need a lesson in professionalism. Every single time I go in there, with or without my puppy, it’s always a hassle about training classes. If I end the conversation early by saying I’m not interested, drop your sales pitch!

I now realize this is not the store I meant to review. Pardon me.

I went into Petco to purchase some cat food when I fell in love with a ferret. The ferret cage was far too close to the door which would open every few minutes and blow in cold air. I felt too bad so I took him home. Now I find out he had ear mites.

I’ve been to this Petco many, many times, and it seems like more recently it has gone way down hill. A few days ago I went in and let me tell you as I walked in the door my nose was greeted with a FOUL smell of animal feces. I was going to pick up some things for my pet rats, as I was looking around near the critter section I noticed the smell was almost unbearable. I looked and each and every SINGLE Critter’s cage/​Tank were just in terrible conditions. I was literally in shock!
The cages haven’t been cleaned in weeks the rats and guinea pigs were literally sitting in a stew of their own shit and piss. It broke my heart because I expect waaaay better out of petco! Anyone who owns animals knows that un-​ventilated cages (glass) are not recommended or suitable as it is for small mammals because it can trap bacteria and horrible smells bad for respiratory. I can only imagine how they felt, the rats looked miserable as they had to lay in their pissy/​poopy cages. The birds they had in the back of the store looks un happy aswell, one of the cages had tons of flies and moths inside it’s cage. I took photos !!! I left the store and called the store manager telling him how disappointed I was in the conditions of the animals. All he said was it was the best they could do. Which made me very, very angry. This is UNACCEPTABLE! I don’t think I will be going to this petco ever again! Unless they really clean up their act.

This location seems a little smaller than some of the other locations, but there is still a good variety of items. The staff is friendly and offered prompt assistance. The thing I didn’t like about this location was the smell. Upon entering the store, I was hit with a strong urine odor. It reminded me of unclean pet cages, but it was much stronger and made me want to leave without shopping. I tolerated the smell long enough to look for what I came to purchase, but the store was out of the item I needed. I really like shopping at Petco, but this location does not seem as sanitary as some of the other locations. I really hope this situation can be improved in the future so that I will be able to return to this location and enjoy shopping for my furry friend.

Smelled horrible. Clerks were more interested in chatting with each other than noticing anyone was in the store. High prices, miss-​marked breeds on animals. Overall the store made me ill. Selling neutered rabbits which is beyond sad since you simply need to keep the genders apart and «fixing» kills over 50% of rabbits. Not likely to go back.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE TO GET GROOMED! My pup needed to be groomed and they refused him even though he had all of his shots. Bad customer service and horrible attitudes. All I gotta say is do not even try! Stank ass attitudes from those girls there. Take your pup somewhere where they will treat you with respect and your puppy.

I love Petco! we currently enrolled our fur baby Cobi and he is doing so well already! James the dog trainer is amazing! and he also gives military discount! loveeee it!

The Fish department is awesome here! The fish guy really knows what he’s doing and gets really cool fish, shrimp etc.
The only problem is now I have to get another tank as there are to many thing I want!

This is as to the Grooming Dept. ONLY at this location ONLY. I’ve gone to other Petco stores and had wonderful experiences.
Ok, so I call to make the appt. for my two large dogs to get groomed, the lady tells me Sat. at 3 p.m.
I show up @ about 2:40 with my two dogs and they ask me what I wanted done for them. Well, i’d like a haircut on one and both to get baths, and ears cleaned. My Old dog is pretty stinky, has allergies, and needs his butt scrubbed.
Both the ladies look at me then eachother like i’m crazy and one says «well i’m the groomer and I was off at 2:30, so there won’t be any hair cutting, but your dog looks fine, so it doesn’t need one anyways. We’ll just reschedule you now then.»
The groomer doesn’t close until like 8 p.m., so why exactly is there not a groomer going to be on staff after 2:30?
Blah, anyways I ask if they can still have a bath since we do have an appointment and the other groomer lady said she can wash them only. So I agree and they go to take my dogs from me. I hand them over and my lab starts chewing through her leash and the lady just stands there letting her. UGH!
I leave and come back to get my dogs and they smell BAD! I’ve never brought my dogs to a groomer and had them smell like stinky dog when they come out, until now. I mention the smell and the lady says she can spray some stuff on them if i pick a scent (it’s like dog cologne) and that it costs extra. Then she tells me that my old dog had two dead fleas on him, so she had to give him a flea bath (more charges). The other dog she said had no fleas on it, then she says that my old dog was in a kennel next to another dog that had a lot of fleas. GREAT! Then she says i should go into the store to buy some flea drops and recommended k-​9 advantix.
If you need somewhere close to here try Petco by Tacoma Mall, don’t go to the Lakewood location.

I enjoy coming here, sometimes to just browse the selections for something new for my two boys. The staff has always been super friendly, more so that it feels like they have a sixth sense when it comes to finding customers who need help.
Recently, however, I decided to try the groomers for my husband’s westie since he really needed a good grooming and there weren’t any pet groomers I could book same day (yesterday). Luckily for me, they were able to squeeze him in and I have to say, the gal did a FANTASTIC job! Not only did she make Willy look handsomely like a westie with a nice flowing skirt below and trimmed down the back, but also gave him the look that my husband wanted, which was a Mohawk for his head. I will definitely return to her at Petco to groom my husband’s dog in about two months from now :) Kudos!
Btw, the groomers are very friendly and talkative, they even gave me some advice on the dog trainers at Petco, but that’s at another time.

I usually wind up coming here after going petsmart, realizing after a while that petsmart was constantly out the certain things my dog likes. people are super nice
dog as become a super natural creature so I usually have to go a specialty store like Next to nature which I really like them.

Service was a little slow trying to check out. I would suggest more efficient up selling monkeys at the cash registers. When it takes 10 minutes to get 3 customers through two lines that’s a bit crazy! Had a decent selection of leashes and they were easy to find. Who knows how frustrating it would have been to find help had I needed it.

Petco didn’t have martingale collars for dogs.
Bummer.
I needed one.
My dog chewed hers up and she is one of those tough dogs to walk.
Unfortunately I left empty handed but that’s no reason to give them a low rating.
Customer service was good!~

Nothing really poped out at me here besides it almost being dead inside. The staff was very helpful though and all the pets make it that much better.
