Specialties

We provide comprehensive eye care examinations, yearly diabetic retinopathy evaluations, LASIK Co-​management with Berg-​Feinfield TLC, diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases including dry eyes and allergies, and care of eye emergencies.

We love contact lenses, performing the evaluation & fitting of daily disposable, color, gas permeable, bifocal, and toric (astigmatism) contact lenses. Thirty years experience with hard-​to-​fit contacts, including keratoconus and previous corneal surgery.

Our optical services include lifestyle dispensing and complimentary lifetime eyeglass adjustments. We have a large selection of over 1,000 glasses & frames.

Established in 1988.

For over 30 years, we have proudly served the Antelope Valley community. We have grown with the valley, from two optometrists and two staff members to five optometrists and thirteen staff. We look forward to caring for you and your family with all of your eye health and vision care needs.

I was a patient here for several years. This year, I had travel plans and could not find the time to squeeze in an appointment for additional contacts. I asked for their assistance in the matter, but was told that they would not help me and that I would need to come in for a visit. (It had been a year since my last visit and there was no change to my vision.)
I now have a new eye doctor that confirmed that he would have helped me with this matter. Additionally, after I told them that I would be going elsewhere, they are still annoying me with appointment reminders both via email and via cell phone text.

I have been going to AV optometric for 16 years. Dr. Jerry is an amazing doctor, and is the only reason why I have stayed for so long. However, they recently sold the business so I see no reason to stay any longer. I have waited to write a review because of my loyalty towards Dr. Jerry. But seeming the business has sold I feel compelled to finally write this review. The woman who works the front reception/​billing is RUDE and very condescending towards the customers, (how she has stayed employed over the years is shocking!). Customer service is surely lacking and evident. The «new policy» that you cannot make payments on your glasses is unreasonable! I was very taken back when I was told that I needed to pay the full amount upon checking out (279.00 dollars)! For 16 years, this has never been an issue. Now all of a sudden the business changes hands and so does all policies regarding purchasing your glasses??? I guess they do not want to keep their LONG time customers… to make matters worse the customer service is horrible when you call in for an appointment or need to ask any general questions. My guess is… it is the same woman at the reception desk… HORRIBLE! If you want to pay many $$$$$$$$ upfront and have POOR customer service then AV Optometric is your place!

My vision is important to me. I wear contacts AND glasses and need the prescriptions to be precise, especially as I age. Even though there are ophthalmologists at my primary HMO —
I pay cash to see Dr. Houlob, and have gone to him for years. Never a long wait. Very friendly staff and nice display of frames for the entire family.

Dr. Shields was great, but everything else wasn’t so much. I went twice to have my contact prescription changed, but both times the prescription wasn’t correct. I just stopped coming and went to another optometrist. I don’t like how the assistants come in and ask questions and take notes. I wish the doctors would do that instead. I have a feeling it would have prevented the errors with my prescriptions.

Terrible experience ! I ordered glasses they did not send the frames out and I checked back 8 days later, they were still sitting on counter. They sold me the wrong contact lenses I had to return them and eventually just had a written prescription to purchase everything elsewhere! Overpriced frames with terrible follow through. Dr Bauwder was the only saving grace. Thank you.

I love this place, can’t wait to make my yearly appointment. Dr Tara Shields is awesome! She is great with kids and is so knowledgeable, I thoroughly trust her opinion. The staff is great and the selection of frames is like shopping as a kid in a candy store. I really look forward to visiting.

I have been going to Dr. Peterson at AVOC since 2007. The staff is wonderful and Dr. Peterson is always polite and explains everything completely. It’s easy to get an appointment, you don’t have to wait months and months to be seen, and they have later business hours so I can go after work. I will continue to recommend AVOC to my friends and family. I won’t be going anywhere else for my glasses and contacts!

I was referred to Dr. Jerry as I have a semi-​rare and complicated condition. I had been all over, including UCLA and no one was able to help me. It is unfortunate that I can ONLY wear hard «scleral» lenses, but hey, I can see. I can’t even wear glasses. But Dr. Jerry took his time and explained everything. Everyone there has been great, but Kelly is my favorite, probably because I have worked with her the most since I’m so much trouble, and she knows how to handle troublesome people like me, lol. Thanks for everything!

My wife and I have been to Dr. Jerry Martin at Antelope Valley Optometric Center for 20 plus years. We go every year for an eye exam and new glasses when needed. The very fact that we have been going to AV Optometric for over two decades in itself says just how pleased we are. Dr. Jerry is so attentive and professional as he helps us to understand exactly what is going on with our eyes. He explains every detail clearly and completely.
Then there is the rest of the support staff. They are all exceptional. They are friendly, efficient, and responsive. They explain every detail of our insurance plan and what our eligibilities are for that visit.
Every person in the facility quite apparently enjoys the work they are performing. My wife and I will be back next year for sure hope to see you at Antelope Valley Optometric Center for your eye health.

I have been getting my eyes checked and glasses done by AVOC for 15+ years. The doctors are all excellent — knowledgeable AND easy to understand! The staff is friendly and helpful. I frequently get compliments on my glasses, their recommendations are spot on. I can’t imagine going anywhere else for my glasses and contacts!

Dr. Petersen’s great! He gave me my first eye exam last year and I had no worries at all about going back again this year. He explained everything so that I could understand it and his staff helped me pick out just the right pair of glasses. They have a huge selection to choose from and go over exactly what insurance pays. Definitely going back next year.

The AV Optometric Center is great! I have been going to them for years! Finally they take my new Insurance. Therefore, now I can go back to them!!! Best of all my O.D. Jeff Clark is here!!!
