Budget Host Inn & Suites

This hotel is a mixed bag. In terms of appearance and condition, it’s poor and outdated. Beyond the carpet along the knee walls in the hallway, conditions in the bathroom — including cracked drywall and flaking rusty metal at the bottom of the door frame — give you the senses nobody is putting much money into this place. The bedspread had a stain (tossed it on the floor) and the place is very basic in terms of furniture and bathroom size — considering the $ 130 per night paid. The place was generally clean. The wifi worked most of the time and the pool and breakfast aren’t bad given all else. The indoor waterpark is actually better than expected. But it will cost an extra $ 12 per person. Oddly, there is no final invoice or paperwork upon checkout. They offer only the c/​c receipt given when you check in. That’s a new one. Given the overall condition and cost, we wouldn’t return.

I would have never chosen to stay at this hotel, but because of the volleyball tournament my daughter was playing in last weekend being a «stay and play» tournament, that is the hotel our team was assigned, and we had no choice. The team would have been sanctioned and responsible for the rooms anyway, if we had gone outside our block, or some kind of thing.
I made the reservation first, then came to Unilocal to look at reviews when I heard other parents who had stayed here last year raising a big stink about it. Yikes! My blood ran cold. I went along with it, but was prepared to raise a stink if necessary.
Fortunately, it was not necessary.
The place looks like a complete and utter shithole from the outside. Actually, this might be insulting to a shithole to compare it to the exterior of this hotel. The entire front that faces the main road, Rt. 30, is apparently and old unused banquet space and café, that’s just used for storage or something now? It looks horrible. The lobby is tiny and weird, and smells like a bad motel, but it’s clean. They actually make you fill out a REGISTRATION CARD. I think the last time I saw one of those was when I was on a road trip with my parents back in the eighties. The hotel staff was nice, though.
We had room 145. It was spotless. I mean, really, really spotless. I white gloved the place, and could not find one single speck of dust, dirt, hair-​nothing. The grout was sparkling, all the walls of the shower were soap scum free, it was impressive. The furniture is old and could be replaced, but the mattresses were comfortable, there were 4 big pillows per bed, and they gave us 6 towels/​bathcloths/​handtowels in the bathroom, which was really refreshing.
The people in our group who stayed in the Wingate Inn across the parking lot had dirty rooms. One of the girls posted in the group chat pics of her bed. It had obviously not been changed between the last guest. It was full of crumbs and had a sock in it. LOL
The pool was warm for us, unlike the guest who complained a few months ago.
We did not use the indoor water park, but one of the moms took her kids and complained that they charged her for going in with her 2 kids, even though she was not partaking.
Breakfast: I personally didn’t eat it, but they said the waffle iron didn’t get hot enough to cook the waffles right. Could be user error. They also had fruit and yogurt.
Location: Great! It’s two minutes from Volleyball Corner, the outlet mall, all sorts of shopping and restaurants.
This is not a $ 129/​night hotel under the usual circumstances, in my opinion, which is what we paid, but I was okay with it. We didn’t come home with bed bugs, which is what I feared!

Truly awful. The room was clean enough– can’t complain about filth. The hotel is VERY shabby and outdated but workable. The breakfast is passable. They claim to have a heated indoor pool but they do not. What they have is a FREEZING indoor pool and no concern for keeping their promises. We chose this hotel because of it’s location and because we wanted a heated, indoor pool for our kids to enjoy. The shivering and tears were heartbreaking. We stayed for 4 days and asked THREE TIMES for them to warm up the pool. Finally on our last night they turned on some warm water for about 10 minutes before shutting it off again. It had barely warmed up. Heat your «heated» pool or close it. Period.
The manager doesn’t come to work until after check-​out, presumably to avoid the plethora of angry guests as they leave, so I stopped in to complain on my way home. She looked at me like she had no clue why I should be upset and offered me a few dollars back to make up for their huge failure. I ended up getting a whole night’s worth back.
Each disappointment on it’s own is easily overlooked. Considering the experience as a whole– this place needs to be shut down and rebooted by people who take pride in their work and understand the hospitality industry.

The hotel is in desperate need of repair!
The staff is not friendly or helpful! Can barely understand them because they are all foreigners & have two speeds, slow & stop. Don’t care how long you stand at the desk to check in or out!
The hot breakfast is mediocre at best!
The room to eat breakfast in is so small that people are squeezed in there like sardines!
I checked in on a Friday & the air conditioner worked on & off for two days, which meant the room was very hot. The rooms are dirty. The toilet was so clogged by Sunday that I had to walk to the lobby to use the toilet. The girl at the front desk came with a plunger, plunged the toilet for 2 minutes & handed me the plunger «in case». The toilet was still clogged. She did not care. Not even I’m so sorry for the inconvenience!
No maintenance to repair the toilet.
I woke up Saturday with 3 small bites on my hand & thought maybe it was a mosquito so I was not overly concerned. Sunday morning I woke up at 5 AM bc the bed is so cheap & so uncomfortable that I was sore from head to toe & I was so ITCHY!
I checked & had over 15 bites in 1 night!
I told the girl at the desk & she shrugged & said thank you I’ll pass it along to management!
No offer of a refund, no apology, no anything!
I had to come home & clean everything I brought… up to & including the suitcase I used so I didn’t bring home your free gift of bugs!
I usually never stay at a cheap hotel but just wanted a quick get away with my kids before school starts & I wanted to be close to Dutch Wonderland so against my better judgement I stayed here!
Never again!

Oh…and the «water park» not great.
The chlorine smell is so overwhelming when you open the door to enter that it burns your eyes so much that you have to turn right back around & leave!

Stayed here July 25 – 26. Was a little scared by the other reviews (which I read after booking!) However, I thought the accommodations were completely fine for the money spent. The front desk staff spent more time laughing with each other than attending to customers, but they were friendly and respectful. I did have to fill out a registration card, which was a little archaic. Don’t remember the last time I had to do that.
I checked my room thoroughly and it was pretty clean, even though the décor was dated. The bed and bed linens were super clean. (I checked after seeing a picture of suspected bed bug bites in someone else’s review!) It smelled a little musty, but not too noticeable. Bathroom was serviceable and the lack of ventilation fan was not an issue. The air conditioning was cold and the quality of the mattress and pillows were great, in my opinion. I had a nice night sleep.
We didn’t use the waterpark, but could have added 4 tickets to our room for an additional $ 20, which seems like it a good deal to me. While not spectacular, the breakfast was a good value and had a lot of variety — there was something for everyone in my family, which is impressive. Also, it was well-​staffed and the food was replenished quickly.
Overall, we were completely satisfied with our stay. When I booked my room, the name «Budget Host» and the photo of the front of the motel led me to have certain expectations. I anticipated a cheap, clean room for my family of 5 to sleep in. My expectations were met.

If you’d like to take your family to a decent hotel, please do not EVER stay here, as your family will despise you for it. However, If you are the sentimental type and would like to re-​live the early 1990’s at this previously owned Howard Johnson facility (that has had zero room upgrades/​renovations since the early 1990’s) then maybe this dive is for you. This is a generous 1 star rating, and here is why:
When greeted at the desk, you kind of get that feeling that something is just not right. After getting your keycard and driving around to the dumpy looking cinder block building that has a hideous paintjob, you begin to seriously question what you just paid for, and family members start to look at you funny. Then, you enter into the building, which is like a big maze, with crappy old metal/​glass entrance doors from the 1980’s or 90’s that are in really rough shape. The half-​carpeted walls in the hallways are just strange. When we finally got to our room, it was very small. The walls had paint issues, the furniture was old, dirty, and worn, the phone was so yellowed that when I picked up the phone, it was actually half white/​half yellow from age. The remote for the no-​name brand flat screen TV had no backing for the batteries. In addition to the room having an off (unfresh) kind of odor, the bathroom was yet another joke. Once again, all original, the sink counter was like a squared off white mica countertop from the late 80’s or early 90’s and was supported by an ugly L-​bracket that the maintenance man must have found somewhere in his arsenal in order to support the sink from sagging or falling. Nice touch, really. NOT. You could see terrible spackling work on the floor near the toilet, and I don’t believe there was an exhaust fan either. However, it did have a heat lamp, which, in my opinion, was the only thing good about this room. Too bad I’d never stay long enough to even use it. We had to leave right away because it was THAT bad.
The pool area reeked like chlorine (way too much), and the indoor water park was just weird, looked nice, but just out of place with some sketchy characters manning it.
A stay at this hotel room is worth about $ 35/​night in my opinion.
****Do yourself a favor… respect yourself and avoid this abomination of a family hotel. If you really are intrigued to check it out, have them show you a demo room first, and then you will understand what I am talking about.
Thumbs Down. Way, Way, Way Down.

There are bed bugs in this hotel. DO NOT stay here. The managers are aware and they let people stay. All my children had bug bites including myself. I demanded my money back for the stay and they agreed. The young lady at the front desk was very inexperienced. Instead of refunding me she charged me for another 2 days. They stated they could not fix the refund and I had to wait another 3 days for a double refund. I will never return to this crap hole!!!

Stayed there 1 night a week ago and the 12 bites on my back still hurt. I want to say they are bed bugs but I’m not sure. I just know went to bed fine and woke up with a grouping red painful bites on my back.

Wish there was an option for 0 stars! This place was gross. Our room was dirty and smelled bad. I immediately called the front desk and the hotel was booked so we couldn’t move to another room. I called around to other hotels — no luck. We were stuck. We carefully removed the bedding — it had many stains. We used our own sleeping bags — which I washed twice in hot water when we got home. The carpet was gross — we had to keep our shoes on the whole time. Bathtub was dirty — I cleaned it before we could use it. When I checked out the next morning I told the guy our room was gross and he said «Sorry, have a nice day.» This place is gross and scary — stay away!

Yikes… this is the gnarliest $ 120 a night room I’ve ever stayed in.
Had my young daughter with me to go ride the train at the Strassbourg RR, and she loves staying in hotels, and water parks, which this place has. The review isn’t on the water park (which is small, but the staff is quite friendly.) but on the hotel.
Check in. Who has to fill out a registration card anymore? Thank god I was the only one there, because it easily took 15 minutes for her to find my reservation, and do the paperwork for me to have a room. PAPERWORK.
The place must be run by the Amish
This hotel is old. Old furniture, old TV, some kind of Jetson’s looking control panel for the lights and power.
They have Wifi, which isn’t bad, except that you have to log in every two hours. Crazy.
The Heat/​AC is unbelievably loud. Came on every hour or so, and sounds like a freight train is coming through the room.
Of course, the white trash’s kids are tearing up and down the hall screaming until 1am, but that’s not really the hotel’s fault. I’ll write another review on the parenting skills of the local rednecks.
The «4 lantern rated» should have given me a clue of how outdated it was. They must have gotten their rating when the system was modernized to lanterns from torches.

Update — they finally picked up and told me they have wifi. I asked to have the router reset like they did yesterday and was told «the modem is in the managers office and the door is locked so no one can touch it» — I then told him I have been calling for the past 1.5 hours and most recently let the phone ring 200+ times and I was told «yes, I was busy with other customers»
At the very least — train your employees. Not expecting five star service but this should be at least a step up from a rent by the hour establishment

Wish I had read more reviews on this place. Took a last minute trip to Lancaster. I usually stay at one of the Bird-​in-​Hand properties and take advantage of their package deals which includes 3 meals per person and other goodies. Because it’s peak season, the price for that was too high. I reserved a room at this hotel through
and was quoted $ 80 a night. I could deal with an outdated room for that rate. The idea of the indoor water park was a plus. When I arrived, I was told the rate was $ 120 per night. The front desk clerk spoke minimal English so trying to argue the rate was pointless. Since the policy is you have to cancel x number of hours ahead of time, I felt like I was stuck. It was late and I just wanted to sleep. I inquired about the cost of the water park — $ 12 per person. That wasn’t happening — not for what looked like a few water slides.
The room had an odor when I went in. It is a outdated looking but since I was only planning to sleep there and not hang out, I could deal with it. Wifi was pretty much non-​existent. The fridge is a very small dorm-​size fridge which needed a serious cleaning along the outside edges. I had no ironing board. There was a sign that said everything in the room is inventoried and you would be charged for missing items. I felt like they thought their guests were thieves. The door to the room stuck and you had to work it to get into the room and pull hard to close it. The 2^nd day I was there the key card wasn’t working so I had to go to the front desk to fix that. No explanation was given as to why it didn’t work. The pool looked ok but it was full of kids and had a strong chlorine smell that you could smell just walking down the hall.
The worst part was the 2^nd night when the toilet stopped up. It started to overflow onto the bathroom floor. I threw every available towel on the floor to mop it up while calling the front desk and asking for towels, a mop, and a plunger. Someone brought some rags that were about washcloth size. That wasn’t going to do anything for the problem. When I asked about a plunger I was told they don’t have one. Then the story changed and they have one but don’t know where it is. I held my ground in needing that plunger and I asked for more towels as well. The guy came back with a plunger and handed it to me with more washcloth sized rags and a garbage bag. I can plunge a toilet but I figured they would have a maintenance person come to fix the problem. I got the toilet unstopped but later in the evening, it overflowed again. At that point I gave up. I didn’t even want to take a shower in that disaster of a bathroom and just waited until I got home.
The only good thing was the breakfast. I had that the 2^nd day. There was cereal, fruit, yogurt, eggs, sausage, make your own waffles, and some bagels, bread, muffins, pastries. I enjoyed the waffle and the sausages were pretty good. They weren’t as brown as I like but they were cooked through. The muffin was kind of doughy so I threw that out. Milk, coffee, juice were unlimited. The breakfast room is pretty large with lots of tables. The bed was comfortable too. A little soft but not bad.
If I can’t stay at one of the Bird-​in-​Hand properties, I’ll find someplace else next time. I definitely won’t be staying here again.

Our first room was not cleaned. Beds were not made trash was in room including a dirty diaper, used towels on the floor. Clearly it was not checked. They did change our room and gave us a discount.

This was the dirtiest nastiest place I have ever stayed in! It was small and had outdated rooms. We found mold on the walls food on the ground and staines on the bed. Half the staff was very nice while the other half where very rude disrespectful and snotty. When we asked about the indoor water park that said for all ages they told us that since we are adults that we should just use the adult pool. If I wanna go to a indoor water park I will. A horrible place to stay and I wouldn’t recommend it to any one. $ 145 a night when it’s not worth more than $ 30 a night.

Outdated rooms and no bathroom exhausts. If your just going to sleep its good, but don’t count on those being a quality hotel. Best thing was the waterpark thats inside… Would recomend La Quinta…

We went for the waterpark and weren’t disappointed. The hotel was a standard chain style hotel, clean and fairly well apportioned. Bring your own pillows, the ones here were horrible! Waterpark is small but has plenty to do, our kids (12, 7, 4) played 2 whole days without wanting to leave.
