History

Established in 1865.

Cork Factory Hotel is located within Urban Place – a mixed use community founded in 2006. Built on the shoulders of industrial giants who helped build Lancaster, Urban Place starts a new chapter in the life of Historic Downtown Lancaster.

The Timeline, Est. 1865

1865: Construction of Urban Place begins for Lancaster Saw, Bark, Spoke & Bending Mill.

1875: Lancaster Cork Company begins production at Urban Place.

1895: Armstrong Cork Company begins production at Urban Place with the purchase of Lancaster Cork Company and other local cork companies.

1960s: Kerr Glass Manufacturing purchases Urban Place to manufacture bottles & caps.

2004: The Baldwins, a Lancaster County family, purchase Urban Place and revive the site to a hip mixed use community.

2007: Urban Place welcomes their first residential and commercial tenants.

2009: Cork Factory Hotel and Cork & Cap Restaurant open in Urban Place.

Currently here with family for a wedding.
I called the hotel twice this afternoon to advise staff that I was stuck at work and would not arrive until after midnight and not to give away the room I had reserved. I arrived at 2:00 A.M. and found out that they had me as a «no show.»
My brother booked a room at the hotel as well and provided his credit card with his name on it. Apparently the front desk staff couldnt be bother to check the names on the reservation. They gave him the room with the King size bed that I had booked in my name instead of the room with the 2 twin size beds that he had booked in his name.
The hotel has a rustic feel to it but the rooms are showing their age. The showers are definitely old and the shower head fixtures are made of plastic not metal so they just look cheap. Even the shower curtains look cheap and thin. Theres bars and a seat built into the shower as well. So instead of feeling like youre staying in a nice hotel it feels like youre staying in an old folks home.
For what youre getting this place is overpriced.

Walker Lake, PA
Stayed last night and loved it! We stayed in the annex building #9. And it was wonderful clean and classic retro. High sandblasted open beam ceilings and beautiful bathrooms with copper tile ceilings. The price on a king room at the time was a real deal (under $ 125.00. The lobby area is also really cool. Plenty of free parking and close to great places to eat. We didn’t have a meal in their Resteuraunt but had the free breakfast there in the morning. Very nice. The king bed was very comfy and again the room was very new and clean… I’d stay there again.

I really like the layout and the look of the hotel. The room looked amazing. I would have given 5 stars but early in the morning it’s very loud in the halls with kids running around and yelling, house keeping knocking on the doors around the rooms along with other people making noise. I really enjoyed everything about the place but the early morning noises.

Loved this hotel! It has so much character. Rooms were a great size and very clean. My boyfriend and I stayed here last Friday night. Just be aware that you’ll see two pending charges on your credit card once you check out for the same amount of money. We called the hotel when we saw this, and they explained the first charge is the hold they put on when you check in and the second charge is the actual charge that goes through when you check out. There was also a $ 50 incidental fee tacked on to each of them. We checked the next day, and all was settled, as they said it would be. We were only charged once, and the $ 50 incidental fee was not there. Just something to be aware of!

This place is awesome. A nice hidden paradise. Less than 3 hours from the DC area which makes it a great weekend get away. Plenty of things to do and places to eat. A must visit!

Great boutique hotel in a beautifully restored cork factory. Very clean, spacious rooms with and actual door on the bathroom. (Don’t understand the current trend of frosted glass bathroom doors and open walls in some hotels).
Parking was a little limited but the hotel wasn’t to busy so we were fine. The parking lot is among several restored factory buildings and spots seemed reserved by all the area businesses but not that big of issue. Just be aware when you enter your room, make sure to turn on the light switches by the door. All the outlets in the room are wires to that switch so you’ll end up with uncharged cell phones in the morning if that switch isn’t on.
Hotel offers free continental breakfast in the downstairs Resturant but trust me, walk across the parking lot to The Baker’s table. For $ 10 you get and all you can eat breakfast that is absolutely amazing.

Pristine boutique hotel in a restored brick building. I found a warm and welcome reception after 36 hours on the road. I wasn’t impressed on the way to my room by the indoor outdoor style green carpets in the hallways. However, my room had picturesque exposed brick and distressed wood trim from the era when this rambling set of buildings was a cork factory. The bed was crisp white with a pillow top mattress and I enjoyed a gourmet Boursin cheese burger on the rustic-​hip dining room on the first floor. This hotel gets it almost all right. FYI the included breakfast is a miss as the pastry were Costo-​style. Better bet is to swing around the corner to Baker’s Table!

Very nice hotel, I loved the room and the brick walls, even loved the feel of the carpets, stayed on four floor, very quiet :)
But.the bed and pillows were horrible, I slept on the couch in the room to get some sleep, they should not advertise the room with a breakfast, bagels and pastries are not breakfast, quite disappointed in the price I paid that is all we got!!! McDonald’s is right around the corner, so we ate there
Bar across the street was awesome, we did not eat in the restaurant,
I am glad I checked it out, but we will look somewhere else next year

I am sitting at the bar right now. The bar tender is the loudest most annoying bartender I have ever meet. She is so busy talking loud about her personal life that she has yet to ask me about my crab dip. BTW the chips are stale.
This is my first trip here but I think it is my last.

This is a cool hotel. We came to Lancaster with the kids to go to Dutch wonderland and the price was the same or less as some of the lower end chains around the park. Hotel is a little creepy looking with all the old saws and industrial tools hanging on the walls but located in a nice old historic factory. The restaurant is decent and not overly expensive. The thing that we felt was missing was a pool. I would absoutley stay here again, and it is the correct choice espeecially if the price here is the same or cheaper as the lower end chain hotels in the area. An added bonus is the childrens museum (called the Science Factory) which shares a parking lot with the hotel. Free entry if you are a member of any children’s museum in their vast network.

Beautiful place. Room is beautiful with exposed bricks and beam ceilings, but it is a little small. Bathroom is nice, but the air conditioner blowing out above the bed is soooo loud!!! Also, you can hear everything that happens above you. Talking, snoring, walking, dropping anything! Hard to get sleep if people are night owls or snore at all! Nice place though, but we missed the continental breakfast due to sleeping in too long! Oops!

I can literally hear every word from the tv in be room next door. That’s kind of hoteling 101: we aim to sleep well. Please read the other reviews — anyone who has stayed here next to another occupied room will attest: paper thin walls. Don’t come in hopes of sleeping.

I can’t sleep… because my neighbor is snoring. I kid you not. You can hear *EVERYTHING.*

I can’t say enough about this hotel. We were on our way back to Chicago from Philadelphia when we experienced car trouble. We found ourselves at a service place in Lancaster and, low and behold needed to spend the night. I was able to book a last minute room at Cork Factory Hotel for a VERY reasonable rate with no problem. When we got there, they were out of the room I had booked so they upgraded us to a King suite on the top floor. Oh my gosh, beautiful! The timber beams on the ceiling, the décor in the room, my boyfriend wanted to move in. Everything about the room was comfortable right down to the bed. After a horrible day of dealing with the car it was nice to be able to relax in such a beautiful room.
As far as surroundings there didn’t seem to be much in the way of things to walk to for food. When I asked the person behind the desk she seemed to agree so we went with her recommendation of trying their restaurant for dinner. Everything was amazing from his salmon to my brisket.
They have a continental breakfast in the morning. Nothing really to write home about but it’s a continental breakfast so it’s really not going to be amazing, it’s free and it fueled us up for the ride home.
Many thanks to the Cork Factory Hotel for being there in a time of need. Highly recommended!

Second time here for yet another wedding and it’s still a very nice place to go to. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very cool since they are built around the original factory. The patio wasn’t set up this go round so that was a little disappointing and I haven’t quite figured out why they don’t put a patio on the other side of the building by the bakers table to enjoy the nice weather but one can make due with what they have. Word of caution on the rooms, the walls and ceilings are paper thin so have a few drinks before bed ;) I’d definitely come back for just a weekend away

We stayed here for my 30th birthday. And I was LESS than impressed. The website made it seem as though it was much nicer than it actually was.
Very cool concept. Lack of amenities and hospitality. Rooms were much smaller than expected. We weren’t told about check out time or the continental breakfast. We had two rooms, and we weren’t provided the same basic amenities. (One room didn’t have make up remover, one didn’t have mouthwash) Walls were paper thin. I could hear everything the people in the next room said. Thankfully I knew them, and we were traveling together, so it wasn’t as intrusive as it could have been.
The front desk was very dry, they barely spoke to us, and were mildly condescending, with the exception of Pam (shoutout to Pam) who we previously interacted with, she was awesome and super helpful.
Overall, I wish we would have stayed elsewhere. For the money, it wasn’t worth it.
PS. We also ate at the restaurant, cork and cap, it was dreadful. I also reviewed that establishment.

There are not enough kind words to express what a great experience my husband and I had this past weekend celebrating our wedding at The Cork Factory. From check-​in, housekeeping, to the staff at The Cork and Cap… stellar service not only for my husband and I but for all of our guests. Every request was accommodated with no questions asked.
As for our wedding ceremony and reception which was held at the Cork Factory Ballroom — wow. Lindsey Howe is amazing. I literally had nothing to worry about from the time I dropped off my all of my items the day before to the second I walked down the isle. She was amazing, responsive and truly took initiative in setting up everything the best way possible and coordinating everything with our vendors, wedding party and guests. I could not be happier. The entire wait staff as well was so nice throughout the whole evening, Erin took great care of our head table!!!
My favorite part from a planning perspective was that cost wise, so much was included. It truly made things much easier and allowed to focus on some small details that made the space «us».

We recently hosted a large conference and many out-​of-​town attendees stayed at Cork Factory Hotel. As one of the organizers, I was surprised by how many guests went out of their way to tell me how wonderful it was, and how much they enjoyed their stay. They especially appreciated the attentive staff and charm of the building. «We had no idea there was something so wonderful in Lancaster’ was repeated often.

My boyfriend and I stayed here on a trip to Lancaster for Valentine’s day and absolutely loved it!
I booked us one night through the hotel website and received the AAA discount price ($ 116/​night). I spent a lot of time researching hotels in the area and this one seemed to be the best bang for my buck, plus it was close to the center of the city which was important to us.
We were immediately blown away by the history that this place exuded. It was charming on the outside, and upon entry, just as charming on the inside. The woman at the front desk seemed a bit disengaged, but it was a quiet Sunday afternoon so I won’t be too critical! She gave us our key (4th floor) and we took the VERY SLOW elevator to the room.
The room was beautiful! So spacious and yet so cozy. A large beam ran through the space, there was a big bathroom, comfy bed, and views of urban place. We went to dinner that night and then hit up the Cork and Cap bar for a nightcap (located in the hotel). It was a cute little bar with good beer on draft.
The only thing I would say that I did not enjoy so much were the multitude of noises we woke up to early Monday morning. The walls must be very thin because we heard every footstep, conversation, hairdryer, etc. I was really looking forward to sleeping in on that comfy bed, but that didn’t end up happening.
All in all it was a great experience, can’t wait to come back!

Well, I was not quite sure about this place pulling into «scenic» Lancaster, PA last week… honestly, I couldn’t tell if it was the smell of the dairy cows, or the sight of what looked like meth infested row houses in the decrepit town, but I was completely surprised and delighted by the Cork Factory Hotel.
It actually was, at one time, I think in like the 1600’s or 1700’s a real working factory. The outside is a (restored) red brick box, just tall, and factory-​like building with 2 wings and a few outlying buildings that are businesses or apartments. The inside however, is beautifully appointed in soft light, nice furniture, and a very woodsy-​rustic feel. There’s a restaurant and bar, a big reception area with a fireplace, and it’s 4 floors of rooms and a big ballroom and terrace area.
I was there for my buddy’s wedding, and the rooms all have huge ceilings, with exposed beam and brick construction, and nice big bathrooms, and well-​appointed fixtures /​amenities.
The staff did a wonderful job with the wedding party stuff… everyone was nice from beginning to end… our two nights there were very comfortable and it was easy navigating in and around the historic Lancaster area.
The wedding was a blast. The open bar. The abundant apps, main courses, and great servers too… just so much of everything, tasty, high-​quality, and well arranged. Couldn’t have asked for a better venue for the happy couple.
Not sure Lancaster, PA is gonna see my face anytime soon, but now at least I know where to stay… which is nice!
