George Vassilas – State Farm Insurance Agent

This used to be Steve Rose’s office until he retired. The difference between the old and the new is unfortunately impossible to miss. I had the policy for several years under Steve Rose, and had one agent when I signed up, he left, and then I got another agent. They were both as good as I’d expect them to be. If I called or e-​mailed, I got a response and action within a couple of hours. Any follow-​up that needed to be done was handled promptly and efficiently. Now that it’s been passed off to George, all I can say is I couldn’t imagine poorer «service.» Absolutely terrible and pathetic, a failing grade in all areas. I wanted to add a car to my policy, and it took four calls over a period of week, the last call made from the MVA while I was waiting for my turn to go to the counter to register the car. My most recent experience is they have raised my rates in the middle of a term, which they blamed on the state of MD. When I called the state of MD, not only did they literally laugh at that statement, they confirmed what I suspected, it’s not lawful or permissible to to do. I called, and an agent was supposed to check into it and get back to me. Since my payment was due, I emailed the next day to get an update (after not receiving a return call) and the e-​mail was ignored. I called a couple of days later, and spoke to the same guy, and that’s when I got the — it’s Maryland’s fault — story. I called back and told the guy MD says it’s not legal, and he told me George would call me the following day, which would have been last Thursday. Today’s Monday. Do you think I’ve received a call? I didn’t think I would, and I haven’t. No biggie. I’m not paying the increase, it’s not legal. I’ve filed a complaint with the Maryland Insurance Commission. I don’t have time to spend hours on the phone and writing e-​mail, especially when the results are nothing changes. I’ll be calling Progressive, Allstate, etc today to get a quote. I’ll stick with State Farm and change agents if I can’t get a better deal. There’s no way you could get worse service. I’m bailing, I’d suggest not even bothering.
