Today would have been my 3^rd time having services done. My Daughter had her first hair cut and donated her 8 inches to Pantene Beautiful Lengths through you. I returned for a hair cut and my Daughter was allowed to sit next to me. Today when I arrived, I was advised that she could NOT sit by me but I really need a cut so I agreed and just asked to wait for an end position so I can keep and eye on her. They called my name, opposite side of the salon in the last chair??? I offered to wait for a closer student and I got an eye roll so I asked for a refund and left. There was a man near by (possibly an instructor) offered his suggestion such as «doing something to her hair as a service.» I told him I just had 8 inches cut off and she’s 4 years old.(they could clearly see she didn’t need a cut)
I understand policies are in place for reasons but if it was so important then why was it okay last time but not today. Very disappointing with such outstanding past experiences to end like this and my hair isn’t done.

I will definitely go back! I love what CYNTHIA did to my hair. She got help from Mr. ANTHONY for the toner of my highlights and Mr. MARK for my haircut. The instructors are very hands on and very nice. Cynthia is very sweet too. She tells me what I can’t do to my hair. I felt bad i wasn’t able to give her a tip because customers are charged upfront. So next time I’ll bring cash for my tip. I also see a lot of senior citizens today cuz i think they give 20% discount to them every tue and wed which is very nice of them. I should’ve known this place earlier before i did crazy stuff to my hair. I’m surprised they only have few reviews. It’s Wednesday and it’s packed with customers. Btw, i saw a lady earlier got balayage and she looks very happy with it. I hope she writes a review too! The only negative thing is… they are students so they will be leaving the salon soon after graduation :(but i have high hopes that all students are well trained before they get to the floor.
This is my hair. i bleached it twice. I put purple dye then strip it off then it turned green. So i bought dye from sally’s to cover up green. Before cynthia did highlights, she already told me that it might still come up with green hair but toner might help to lessen it. Surprise surprise no green at all after toning it. Then she cut my hair. I’m very pleased with my hair. I love it!!!

Unfortunately I must give this school a very low rating. As a student since 8/​2014, I am very disappointed with the quality of education and service I received, as well as the the gossip and cattiness from the instructors, at times they are worse than the students.
Majority of the teacher at this school don’t have the desire and or passion to be a teacher. Some of them don’t even have the skills that are required to teach. During my aesthetics course, the teacher refused to get off her ass and teach my course, I was taught by the STUDENTS! I feel that I have been robbed out of being a aesthetician, after investing all that money into my education. The instructors and powers that be, snoop on students Facebook, violating privacy and suspending students over Facebook conduct. I work very hard during my hours at school, non stop request clients and helping others, but yet and still, the instructors will talk to me as I’m a 10 year old child, and or salve. The instructors steer up drama between the students, causing conflict, then stand back at watch fights go down. The CEO is always on duty at the school, and if you go to him and complain about his school and or his instructors, he will not heaisitat to void your contract and dismiss you from «his school», he has done this several times to several students, mostly African Americans. Word out is that the school is facing several law suits. If you plan on enrolling in this school, please reconsider other options, this school would be the last option for me.

I’ve been here twice before this specific visit which was Christmas Eve and I left completely unsatisfied and disappointed with my service! I never had problems with my first two visits, in fact the girls who worked on me before this visit did well and I enjoyed it. However this visit was the absolute worst! I’m going tell the entire thing from start to finish.
I walked in at 8am as soon they opened and I waited roughly 30 minutes to be assisted and once it was time to start, I got set up with a student and I believe her name was Carmen or Carla but I am pretty sure it was Carmen. And she was completely not knowledgeable in African American hair, which in previous experiences here at the school, the other students didn’t know much either but they asked their teacher every step of the way and also asked me about my hair needs and gave recommendations. But she knew nothing. I asked her multiple times to get the instructor and she ignored me and asked another student who know just as little as she did!
So basically, I came in for a relaxer and a nice Bob cut. I showed her pictures and explained to her in full details on how I wanted it and what I expected and she ignored everything I said. The first thing she did wrong was completely wet my hair and then tried to apply the relaxer and I said, «No. Relaxers are to be applied on dry hair.» And she left and asked the teacher instead of listening to me. So then she sticks me under the dryer for 15 mins and my hair was still soaking wet so she took me back to her station to hand dry it and she uses a DIFFUSER??? really? Yes, my hair is curly but not that kind of curl!!! So then she has another student help her apply the relaxer and the entire time she and the other student were completely puzzled and just did what they wanted to so they completely applied the relaxer wrong and then a third girl came in to help them apply and the third girl was just slapping it on and almost got relaxer in my eye. She got it on my skin and I asked her to please wipe it off and I got a complete attitude from her and the other student. Not to mention, the entire time they complained about my hair being thick and Carmen said «I thought I was gonna leave early but I guess not» and the other student says «Yeah not with her hair.» Excuse me??? How unprofessional! So fast forward, my scalp started burning and asked them to wash me out several times and they didn’t listen until the last time and then I went back to the sink and they left me sitting there burning for another 2 minutes while they went looking for an instructor to ask if it was okay to rinse me out when I told them that I was severely burning and needed it out!!!
Then its time for her to Blowdry and cut… she blew my hair dry. Then re wet my hair to cut it! I told her to blow dry again because you can’t cut my hair wet. And she didn’t listen because she said that’s how they showed her. So she proceeded to cut it wet, despite my knowledge and per her CLIENT’S request and she stops in the middle of cutting and asks me «Does it look even?» And I was like what??? You should know! And I told her «I can’t tell because my hair isn’t supposed to be cut wet solely based on that reason» and she said nothing. Proceed wetting my hair and cutting and I asked her 3 more times throughout the cut for her teacher and she said «they don’t come until we’re done» but that complete bull! I witnessed the teachers helping other students and not only that, they were good about checking on them constantly in my previous visits. So, she finishes the cut and sure enough, my cut is completely uneven!!! And she blowdryed my hair again and flat ironed my obviously uneven hair cut, only flat ironed one side of my head and didnt even do a good job because it was still frizzy and dry looking then packs her stuff because she in a «hurry» and leaves without acknowledging or apologizing for me being clearly upset with her and her crappy work!
Her takeover Laurie came and I honestly would have preferred Laurie to do it from the get go she was very knowledgeable and understanding and also asked her instructor for proper guidance. Her instructor Ms. Daphne was very nice and helpful as well. Although, I was still extremely upset about my hair, they fixed it nicely but I was still very unhappy.
I’m so disappointed in this place! And they don’t give refunds! So there was $ 54 dollars down the drain!!! And I think they should issue a refund or some sort of valuable compensation to the people who had a horrible experience such as I did! People are spending their hard earned money and its completely unfair that we cannot receive a full refund nor can request to be placed with someone who has more experience! I understand that they are learning but this unprofessionalism and half done work is completely unacceptable and not worth a single penny! Never coming back!

Just left the hair salon and I am way beyond satisfied with the services. Francesca did a root touch up to my blonde locks and I’ve never been happier with my hair then today. I’ve gone to high end salons and the customer service here along with the attention to detail far surpasses any other experience I have had. The student instructor Mr. D, really knows hair and makes sure every client is well taken care of. I definitely will be back.

While visiting Las Vegas last summer, my friend and I decided to get manicures and pedicures done to treat ourselves. We happened to be eating at the Schlotzky’s next door and saw the Academy of Hair Design and thought we’d give it a chance. I get my hair cut and colored at a cosmetology school back home in Bakersfield so I understand that the people working here are students still in training, though they work under the supervision of instructors.
We signed in and scheduled manis and pedis. They took us in pretty quickly and were able to accommodate our request to be seated next to each other. The students were very friendly and chatted with us the entire time they were working on us. Yes, it took longer than it would at a regular salon, but the prices were significantly lower so it was still a very good deal. The student working on my friend was a lot faster than the girl working on me, so my friend had finished her pedi was already halfway through her mani by the time my girl finished my pedi, but my girl did such a good job I have absolutely no complaints!
We both left feeling pampered and pretty and it didn’t break our pocketbook. I call this a huge WIN for us.

I went here today for a cut, high lights and low lights. I signed in at the counter and was greeted by a student shortly after. I showed the student along with an instructor the color I wanted. The instructor went into the back with the student and mixed the colors. Neither one of them showed me a color palette to help choose the colors I wanted. The colors were chosen by the instructor. First mistake! I should have asked the instructor to show me the colors she chose.
The student, I will only use her first initial, «T», began the process of coloring my hair with a short instruction by the instructor followed by a statement of «You got this»? The instructor «Miss M» (first initial) checked on the progress a few times and then went to lunch. While she was at lunch it was time to rinse the color from my hair. Another person came over at the request of the student. The student asked her, «Is this how the hair should look»? I’m not sure of this persons position at the school. I don’t know if she was an instructor or an advanced student. She then asked, «Did you use cold water»? She replied «Yes». That was incorrect. She was using very warm water on my hair and did not switch to cold until after she sought advice from this person. Once my hair was rinsed and washed a toner was applied. By this time the instructor came back from lunch and asked, «How do you like it»? I expressed to her that it was very dark and I didn’t see much blonde. I again showed her the picture of the color I was trying to achieve and her reply to me was, «My professional eye sees a cherry red». Miss M, I’m not trying to be rude or disrespectful, but you might want to have your professional eyes checked! Yes, there was some red in the picture I showed you. However, the primary colors were blonde but my hair is clearly RED AND DARK BROWN with minimal blonde!
In an effort to correct my obvious dislike of the results, she did offer to put more blonde highlights in my hair, but time did not permit. She gave me a slip to come back within seven days to have more highlights done. In all honesty, I don’t know that I will go back. During the appointment I found out that this was the students first time attempting this process. I feel she should have been checked on more frequently. As I’m looking at my hair, I’m noticing there is some bleeding of the color. I don’t blame the student at all. She did the best she could with minimal guidance from the instructor.

Yes, the original date of my visit was 11÷6÷15.
I returned today, with extreme trepidation, in an attempt to have to the color corrected. I did, this time, ask for a student with more experience with color. My request was accommodated. I again was greeted by a friendly student, Anna. I explained to her what had happened and showed her a picture of the color I was trying to achieve. Once she began working on my hair, she immediately made me feel at ease. Having had my hair highlighted for over 25 years, I’m very familiar with the process. Her technique was what I was accustomed to. She was swift with the foils yet precise in placement. A very friendly instructor named Mark checked on her progress. One she finished he praised her for how beautiful the color looked. I couldn’t agree more. I left there feeling so pretty and happy with the results. That’s how every woman should feel when leaving a salon. After all, we women are very particular about our hair. And when it’s time for a touch up, I WILL come back and see Anna.

I came in on Saturday asking for my hair to be made purple xD PURPLE purple.
I got Kimmie and she did an amazing job. She was professional and talked with me a lot which was great because getting purple hair from dark brown takes a LONG time. I got there at 8:30am and left at 4pm.
This is a student school so expecting perfect results would be a bit silly. I had expected one color of purple but got more of an ombré…but it’s an amazing look! I’m glad it worked out the way it did.
Kimmie curled my hair afterward for no extra charge because she wanted my hair to look its best and I left feeling great. I get stopped several times daily by people telling me how amazing my color is. Definitely satisfied!
I hope to be starting at AHD on ⁷⁄₇!

Do NOT go to this UNPROFESSIONAL place! When you call they give you false information! I wanted to get my nails done and over the phone they failed to tell me that the lady that had done my nails graduated 2 months ago! The teacher was rude and unprofessional aswell. This is not a place you want to get your hair, nails, or skin done.

This school has been in business for 40+ years. They also have night classes. Great location. Reasonable prices, hair extensions, skin and nail services. Beautiful building, lots of activity on their salon floor. Check it out.

Great place if you need a coloring. Had a bleach cap to go from a red dye color back to blonde and went lighter than my natural. Kelly to great care and detail I even had her layer the back with an angle cut. I posted a couple of pics on their site

Considering that this is a school where pupils are still learning, don’t come in here and expect to get done in an hour. My nails took 3 hours… my hair almost took the same amount of time for cut, style and wash.
The dirt-​cheap prices may be alluring, but if you have places to go, I advise booking the earliest appointment time.

Just got my hair a moisture treatment, bleached, colored, and cut. Iris took me from black hair to blond… with minimal damage. Donna supervised. Only had to take an inch and a half off the length. Every part of my experience was awesome and I love the results. This is the second time I’ve come here and the second time I’ve been happy.

Just got my haircut there yesterday. Love it! Phyllis is amazing. Can’t wait to follow her to where ever she goes after she graduates.

I have been coming here since they were in their old location and unfortunately things are getting progressively worse. Miss Jeannie at the front desk is the places on constant, she is wonderful. I have really long hair and paid for my service up front (a perm tint) and since I have long hair that is really thick and curly, asked if I could get an experienced student. I got one. For 5 minutes then was turned over to a less experienced student because the teacher said she had to go on break. My color had been screwed up by a student on my prior visit and I stated I obviously needed it fixed. I GOT CHARGED DOUBLE! I had to pay to fix the error. I have such a sad face right now, it’s been 3 weeks and my color has faded.

Ive been to Aveda, Paul Mitchell, Eurphoria looking for a good school to get my Hair Design License, I must say Academy of Hair Design by far is the best school hands down. Kira the admissions girl who greeted me with her big welcoming smile, in very professional warm manner was different and genuine. Immediately I felt at ease, knew I was home. She was thorough and as well as the whole staff. No wonder its the only school thats been here for 30 years. I signed up and start next next week. No other school has this kind of repution. Do ur homework.

Not my place for getting nails done as I know I could save money by doing my own. The application part was pretty sloppy and I had to correct the technician student to reapply some more to cover my whole nail. Within the next hour, I already had my nails ruined and the next few days, the polish was already coming off. I’m not too confident for anybody to do more of a difficult task of coloring and cutting hair or doing make up application if doing nails wasn’t the greatest. I would save your money and time by doing your own nails or go to a nail salon. Probably wouldn’t go back even if all expenses were paid for to get any services done.

I really enjoyed my experience here at the Academy of Hair Design. I’m generally not one to spend money on pampering herself, but when I heard how inexpensive it could be at the Academy I checked it out!
The first time I went I had a basic manicure. I had Melodie as my student nail technician. It was only $ 7 for the manicure and of course I tipped her after. She was so friendly, informative and creative! Being that i’m diabetic I have to warn nail people of my condition so that they stay away from metal implements. Melodie understood and knew exactly what to do. My manicure came out so pretty! I got to pick my polish and she even put some cute flowers on my nails.
During my conversation with Melodie I found out that her true passion is hair. She suggested I come in sometime for a scalp treatment. It only cost $ 9. I had never heard of a scalp treatment before, but she informed me it would help promote hair growth. Wow! I loved it! My head felt ten times lighter afterwards and ever since my hair has started growing longer and healthier.
I would for sure go back to the Academy of Hair Design for a manicure or anything else. Make sure if you go to request Melodie for ALL your salon needs.

My husband came here because we have a friend that is attending it. His haircut was $ 7 which isn’t bad at all. I don’t think I would trust anyone besides our friend. I waited in the lobby and saw a whole bunch of people messing up all kinds of way. If anything I think I would come back and get a manicure and maybe let them curl my hair, but no way would I let them dye or cut my hair, to risky!

What do you really expect coming to a school? Sometimes things will turn out great and other times Horrible!
I’ve been here twice for hair cut and style. First time, was not good. My hair looked ok, but when I went home to brush through it and fix it. I found it to be so uneven!
Couple of months later. I was short on cash so decided to try this place out again. I urged the older lady in front (short hair, in her 60’s) PLEASE give me a senior. I was in a rush and didn’t want to be there for over an hour. She said no problem. I waited for about 10 minutes. I get into a chair and the girl doing my hair was very kind, but had no idea what she was doing! I wanted layers. The teacher had to come and show her step by step. It took well over an hour. When I was talking to the girl doing my hair. (I like having conversation) I asked her how long she has been there. It was her first day on the floor!!! I was so pissed, but she already started. The lady in the front knew what she did too. She would not make eye contact to me at all. My hair did turn out fine. A lot better than the first. Thank God! The teacher did 90% of the work. It took over an hour. And I was late…
So I guess it really depends. I’ve been to many schools and it’s really a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀. You are taking a risk every time. I am no longer going to schools. And NEVER returning here. That lady ruined it for me.

Ok first off I didn’t get my hair cut here my girlfriend did. She tried to walk in where she usually gets her hair cut, but with over and hour wait time we were desperate and feeling adventurous.
We walk in and the place is HUGE. Your getting your haircut from a student. That is a plus in my book. They have techniques fresh on their minds. They were able to do EXACTLY what my girlfriend wanted. To top it all off, they have someone come and «inspect» the haircut and fix any mistakes the student made. I just might get my haircut here when she does next.
FYI
They make you pay before you get your haircut. Don’t be scared I didn’t see anyone run out crying.
Womans haircut was about 8 dollars mens was 6. They will paint your nails for about 3 dollars.

Academy of Hair Design gave me the tools I needed to get a Job in the midst of hard economic times! Great supportive teachers and staff create a positive environment for students and clients.
Any client visiting AHD should feel confident the students working on them are well educated, knowledgeable, and attentive to each clients specific needs. It’s a great atmosphere to be in and a great place to receive good quality beauty services at a fraction of the price.

I came here to get a facial, paid $ 41.00 which I think is expensive for a school. The face brush was old, I wouldn’t have wanted to see it becasue it felt uckey. The music was not right and the break room was the same room so I could over hear gossip from the students. Not relaxing.
I also got a nail polish which was very good. I would recommend Melissa. Price was excellent also.
