History

Established in 1995.

I, Ralph Mathieu, became the owner of Alternate Reality Comics in 1995. The store has had two owners before myself and was called Dungeon Comics before I changed the name to its present name, Alternate Reality Comics. The store has been in three locations near the UNLV campus, each space being larger than the previous one, with the store’s new location being twice the size (at 2,200 sq.ft.) of the previous location.

I’ve been a reader /​connoisseur of the comic book medium since 1975 and I love owning Alternate Reality Comics because it allows me to interact with other comic book enthusiasts and turn on more people to the wonders that comic books have to offer.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! They have so much variety in their comic books and also sells a lot of collectible items. I remember my local comic book shop kept running out of the new Hawkeye issues or is late to get them but I never had trouble getting it here.
The owner of this shop is so helpful and friendly. He’ll show you where everything is if you’re looking for something in particular. You can tell he knows the place by heart and it’s great to see. He will also give you good recommendations based on the things that you read. So nice, I love this place.

Found this place while driving down flamingo when I was visiting Las Vegas. This store has lots of nice super hero /​villain t shirts and there the real ones too. Also lots of comics and other superhero/​villain things The store is real clean and well organized. The guy that was working was real nice and helpful. If your into comics and other super hero/​villains stuff you need to check this place out. Can’t wait for my next trip to Vegas so I can put some money to the side before a blow it all on the strip.

I’ve always wondered what a comic book store was like and I gotta admit, it was AMAZING! I got 2 comic books for $ 2 each and the complete 6 series of Lock & Key. They have the coolest magnets, pins, and the best books ever. The guy that was working there was really nice and even helped me with one of the toy vendor machines (I’m really bad with machines). The highlight of my day was this store!

Just stopped in here for the first time today with my girlfriend and have to say it was one of the nicest and most relaxed comic book stores that I’ve ever been to. The owner was very friendly and helpful and we didn’t feel rushed at all. They even had drinks for sale so we looked around for quite a while and walked out of there with a bunch of things. Look forward to going back!

Alternate reality comics is that rarest of things… It’s an owner shop that focuses on it’s readership, and artist Spotlight, and really gears the inventory toward people who enjoys the craft and medium. I feel very comfortable walking through here, taking a moment to browse, great selection, plenty of knickknacks and one off gizmos.

BEST COMIC SHOP IN VEGAS… I love this shop. For sure my favorite shop in Vegas, hands down. I was visiting from Los Angeles and town for PacMan fight and that weekend just happened to fall on the best holiday every, Free Comic Book Day. I brought my mom to two different shops in the area and this was the first shop we went too, only really because they were going to have coffee.
The staff was super down to earth, family friendly, and exceptionally organized for that day. Anytime I am in Vegas will make sure to check out this shop.

This was the first shop I went to on a recent trip to Vegas.
The owner of the shop was at the till organizing and I browsed around the shop. There was a good selection of comics and books. There were some other items as well, but not what I was looking for.
The owner and I chatted for a bit and he was welcoming. I ended up getting a retro Superman oversized comic.
The owner did refer me to another copy book shop though that did have what I wanted so I really appreciated that.
The shop has a unique feel to it and the owner seemed very knowledgeable.
Parking was not a problem and prices seemed on par

The owner Ralph is easily one of the nicest shop owners I’ve ever met, and he’s an Archie fan too. So clearly he’s an awesome human being with amazing taste (not being sarcastic either, I’m a die hard Archie fan.) The shop is clean, well lit, organized, and they have a decent selection of Silver Age books as well. If I was in this area this would be my local comic shop.

This was my first intro to comic book shops in Las Vegas after I moved here from San Francisco. I was worried that there wouldn’t be a shop around that catered to the alt and indy comics like we had in SF. Boy, was I wrong. This is an amazing shop and Ralph (the owner) is an encyclopedia of comic book knowledge. He’s always friendly and greets every customer that walks in personally. The selection is huge and there’s always plenty of genres for everyone. The have games, knick knacks, art, posters, back issues, classic comics, a local section, apparel, and a good sized kids section. It’s located in a very easy to access strip mall on a busy intersection, so it’s not hidden away where you’ll miss it. I have been collecting comics for 30 years and Alternate Reality is one of my 4 favorite shops of all time. Do yourself a favor and check them out!

This store is cool and so is the owner Ralph. Nice and helpful fellow. Great comics selection with up to date issues. Their back issues were also impressive. Ralph was quite helpful to us which is always appreciated coming from the store owner. No bloated egos and jerks here!

This is the only comic shop I like going to. The management there is cool and treat me with respect. I like their comic and t shirt selection there. I probably stop in every few weeks plus I like that its near the library.

This is by far my favorite comic shop I have ever been to. I look forward to talking comic books and other topics with Ralph every week. His selection is fantastic too. Huge variety of indie and mainstream comics. I highly recommend Alternate Reality to any serious comic book readers and newbies alike.

I could go on and on about my wonderful shopping experience at Alternate Reality Comics, but I have a some new books that I’m desperate to read, so here goes the bullet-​point version.
1) The owner, Ralph, is one of the kindest people I’ve ever had the chance to meet.
2) He also knows his merchandise backwards and forwards and is deeply passionate about what he stocks.
Together, this makes for an amazing retail experience. When I confessed to a very slight knowledge of comics, Ralph gave me a tour of his favorites in the shop and pointed out a number of things that I know I’ll love. And when I mentioned that I was a children’s librarian, hoping to ultimately improve my library’s comic collection, he wrote out a very nice list of possible additions.
What a wonderful experience! This shopping excursion will long remain one of the highlights of my trip to Vegas.

I have been a customer of Alternate Reality for a couple of years now, and this store has never let me down.
The store is well organized n various categories via Graphic Novels, Publisher, Merch, Back Issues, etc. It makes it very easy to find what you are looking for.
The owner of the store, Ralph, has been nothing but nice to everyone who walks in. You can also tell that he loves to promote local artists and comic writers through monthly features. He even has a section in his shop just for local publishers. This store overall holds a lot of events and loves to party! :D
I would say that people who are new to comics and people who have been comic book fans for a long time both can benefit from this store. Ralph is always willing to help you find what you need.
I would suggest getting a subscription box. It gives you an opportunity to save money, and to make sure you’re not missing out on any issues. Even just for one comic, won’t hurt!

Coolest comic book store in town! A great place to explore comics of different genres and has you exploring. Not only do they have a great variety of comics but it’s also a great place to get gifts, board games and shirts. Ralph is the best and his staff are awesome!

I visited A.R.C. Two summers ago in 2012 with my 2 sons and daughter. My wife was at a convention and we decided to look up a comic book shop and found this one.
I think my middle son snoozed on the yellow couch. ANYWAY (I digress)
Ralph and his shop are literally the most Amazing, Sensational and Spectacular comic book shop experience I’ve ever had outside of my neck of the woods in Orange County CA.
Simply fantastic!
If you are looking for a place to visit, this is it. With all due respect, the other stores in LV are also great, but my kids and I really connected here with Ralph and A.R.C.
It’s just great, I can’t say enough about it. :-)

I really loved that there was a comic book store on the strip. I LOVE my comics and it has been that way since I was a kid. The store was a decent size and I like that they feature local comic book artists in their little gallery they have going on. I was just more than a bit disappointed by the size and selection of their comics. I collect many horror comics, many that some people have probably never heard of along with graphic novels, manga, and more well known series. The prices were average and no one came up to greet me. This just was not the store for me.

Why am I in a comic book store in Vegas? I should be eating a buffet, or going to a strip club, or gambling… but a comic book store in Vegas. really…really?
Well, I’m still a geek too so I did need a break from the aforementioned activities listed above. They have plenty of new comics available, lots of silver age comics as well and plenty of other stuff such as plush toys, regular toys and paintings from local artists.
The owner seemed like a really cool dude. He definitely knows his comics so if you have any questions, I’m sure he can answer them all.
And the convenience factor of only being a couple of miles away from the Strip was also an incentive to come here.
