I have been visiting Avea Wellness Center for a series of Dermapen treatments. I was researching various peels and opted for a series of 5 Dermapen treatments when Avea Wellness Center offered a killer Groupon deal late last summer. What is Dermapen? Good question. Dermapen is a minimally invasive in-office procedure that promises to soften any wrinkles, minimize pores, fade various scars, and leave one undergoing treatments with brighter, tighter, and more youthful glow. Dermapen falls under the concept of micro-needling; Micro-needling is based on the skin’s ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage such as cuts, burns and other abrasions. Immediately after an injury occurs our skin dissolves old damaged tissue and replaces it with new and improved skin. Essentially, Dermapen is a ‘pen’ that has superfine needles on the end of it. They roll this ‘pen’ all over your face and focus on your trouble areas(deeper lines or scars). The superfine vibrating needles of the ‘pen’ pierce the skin at a predetermined depth *(up to 2 millimeters) and encourages your skin to repair itself and pump up collagen production. Downtime is minimal; one may hide any redness easily with mineral makeup the day after the procedure. Easy-peasy. Now, the procedure ‘sounds’ way worse that what it really is. I actually had very minimal discomfort and redness(this just depends on the individual). An esthetician will apply numbing cream for at least 30 – 40 minutes prior to your treatment. I really didn’t feel anything more than a ‘vibration’ during the Dermapen treatment. There would be a pinch here and there but it really wasn’t anything that should stop you from going for it. They roll this pen over your face while focusing on what you advised during your initial consultation. After the procedure your skin will be red and flushed in appearance in a similar fashion to a sunburn. My skin was a bit red and tight for 24hrs and then it was just a bit dry for 2 – 3 days after that. It’s a walk in the park compared to the slew of other treatments/peels they offer out there. They advise that visible results of skin rejuvenation are generally seen after just 6 – 8 weeks following your procedure and will improve even further over time(up to 18 – 24 months later). I just wrapped up my 4th treatment and I’m really happy with my results. I can truly say my hyperpigmentation and scarring(acquired from battling troubled skin my whole life) has greatly improved. The overall texture and tone of my skin is brighter, smoother, and more radiant. My pores are visibly smaller and I honestly feel my skin has drastically improved since starting treatments. I visited the Henderson and Centennial locations. These offices offer Saturday appointments(which are welcomed). I’ve had a couple of different estheticians during my treatments and have been very happy and pleased with each of them. However, April would be my favorite to date. She was very sweet and kept me occupied with good conversation throughout my last treatment. In fact, I was laughing the majority of time since she has a great sense of humor! I have already booked my final appointment with her and plan to follow up these treatments with a Vi Peel later on down the line. Hot Tip: The weekends fill up quickly so make sure you plan your visits ahead of time.

I had my first underarm Lazer Treatment at the Centennial Avea location and it was awesome, quick, and painless. Melissa is a gem as she spent much time educating me on the process, expectations, aftercare, etc. I’ve already referred another co-worker to this Avea location. Looking forward to my next treatment.
