WTH happened to this place?! WTH sums up everything that went on through my mind the last time I came here to pick up some supplies. I went to park and saw that the store looked like someone robbed it and they tried to close the opening from the broken glass of the door with wooden panels… no, wait… that’s not what it looks like. It is a broken glass door with wooden panels to cover it up. This place completely fell apart!!! I walked in, nothing looks like it changed, but it didn’t feel the same. It was like a deserted salon and all you hear are voices like some hairdressing ghosts, but since the store is so huge, you can’t tell where the people are standing and talking. I went around after finding some neck tape and spray sheen to look for someone to pay for stuff so I can get the heck out of there!

This store is completely lacking in customer service, honesty, and even decency towards their customers. Let the buyer beware, as their deceitful sales practices conned me out of $ 230 that I will never see again. I went into the store in March to inquire about hair extensions for an updo for my wedding in July. I had been recommended to the store by my hairdresser at Color Salon at Caesars Palace, who suggested that I get some clip-on extensions to get me the length I needed for the updo. We didn’t know if they would be needed — because it woud depend on the talent of my wedding hairstylist as to whether she could work with my hair asi-is — but my hairdresser said that I should get a package and bring it to my hair trial in May. I have never bought hair extensions before, but when I got there a very helpful woman took one look at me and handed me a package of 18″ extensions that perfectly matched my hair. I told her that I wasn’t going to be able to even try out the hair until May — two months away — because that was when I was heading back to the East Coast for my trial hairstyling. She said that wasn’t a problem at all. She said that so long as I held on to my receipt and didn’t open the package, I could take it to my wedding hairdresser in May and we could see if it was needed or not and then bring it back if not. Five times I made sure it was returnable. She then told me I should buy two packs(for a total of $ 230) in case I needed more, since I’d be so far away. Well, turns out I didn’t need it. Today I went to the store to return them — receipt in hand — and the incredibly rude, obnoxious store owner Charlie told me that the store had a no-returns policy. We talked for about 10 minutes, when I explained that it was his staff member who had told me that I coud return it and that the return policy wasn’t posted anywhere. He said that I could feel free to toss the hair out on the street if I wanted if I had no use for it(an actual quote!) and that he didn’t believe one word I was saying. He said that his employees know the policy and that when in doubt he believes his employees and not the customers because«this is Las Vegas». I pointed out that it was him who had rung me up and if there was a no-return policy that should have been told to me when I was checking out(I NEVER would have bought it since I wasn’t 100% sure I needed it!). He said that I should have just known because it was on the bottom of the receipt(which I would have only received after I paid) and I was foolish to think I could come back in after 2 months to return it(although I had been told I could). In the end, he literally turned his back on me and walked away, leaving me stunned and holding $ 230 worth of hair I will never use. I will never return, and I am telling my hairdresser at Caesars Palace never to recommend them again. I feel conned and lied to, but worst of all, I feel incredibly insulted by the horrible treatment I received when I returned. I wasn’t trying to pull anything over on him, I just didn’t need the product. And I was meant to feel like a dishonest, lying cheat. He said that’s how his customers are, so he assumes the worst. Do you want to be one of those customers?

It breaks my heart to write this review. Chatham was one of my favorite stores in Las Vegas over the last decade. In the past I’ve recommended it to all my friends, both locals and visitors who might want to stock up on a hard to find product before they head home. But after the way they treated my mother — my *mother* — on my most recent visit, I can’t recommend them to anyone. And I won’t be going back. Chatham is a large and well-stocked beauty supply store. They specialize in so-called ethnic hair care products, with rows and rows of brand names that can be difficult to find. They also sell styling equipment such as bonnet hairdryers, heated flatirons, and a wide range of curling irons. An entire corner of the store is devoted to wigs, with at least 200 wigs on display. The rear wall of the store holds more hair, both pieces and tracks of every imaginable color. There are also several aisles of barrettes, doo-rags, and accessories, as well as a selection of low priced cosmetics. And nearly everything is priced lower than comparable drugstore and beauty supply stock. BUT. But. They have a bizarre policy when taking payment by check that is a fraud situation just waiting to happen. When accepting a check from a customer, they first run it for bank approval as an electronic check payment. Then, they ask the customer to sign a slip, like a debit or credit transaction. And then they ask that the check be filled out, signed, and they want to keep it! This gives them what amounts to two contracts where the buyer agrees to pay — three, if the original electronic check transaction can be honored on its own. I don’t believe the store is trying to defraud anyone, but they’re making it easy for a costly error to occur. In 20 minutes of trying to explain this procedure the only explanation the manager could give was«80% of check payments get returned to us.» Perhaps they should consider a «no check» policy. Simple idea that plenty of other businesses have adopted. We didn’t finish our transaction and we won’t be going back. And I’ll be recommending another store to my glamour squad friends. What a disappointment.
