Corwin Pool Service

Very pleased with Corwin Pool. I was having issues at my moms house. Competitors not showing up regularly or just doing poor work. I don’t know about you but I check that log and Corwin is the only one holding up their end of things. Pool is clean and clear and they straighten up the equipment too.
I do find it a bit odd how my mom now finds reasons to hang out by the pool in a bikini (gross!). Maybe the pool guy will be my new dad though.
Will I get a family discount then?!

Being new to Las Vegas we needed to select a pool service. So of course we went to Unilocal and looked around. We ended up selecting Corwin Pool Service due to the good reviews and the proximity to our house (made sense as initial logic). So we rolled the dice…
Met Dan, the owner, on the first service appointment and told him that we were new to owning a pool and needed to start from the basics (like how do we turn on the waterfall? Or where exactly do those knobs need to be turned to?) Dan was great in getting us setup and even went and got a new mechanical pool cleaning sweep (by the way the unit he suggested and we bought — rocks. Our pool is almost always sparkling, and by the end of the day, the little guy has the whole pool clean. Wasn’t cheap, but worth every penny).
So now we are 2 months in to using Corwin Pool Service and had enough background to write a review.
In short — love the service.
Always show up on our scheduled date within a usual time range. Pool is sparkling as sparkling can get. Experts at being non intrusive — sometimes I don’t even know they showed up that day but see evidence they did with the sparkling pool and cleaned out filters.
As another side comment, I needed a few recommendations, like who to go for winterizing our solar heating, and he has always recommended gems (Dan is like a mini Unilocal when it comes to all things pool and landscaping).

I chose this company because of reviews. In my opinion it was not a good choice for a pool company for me. Dan constantly complained about something with the pool and criticized everything from the system to the solar. It was his job to work on pools but it felt like he didn’t want to actually work. Perhaps he felt he was doing his job by pointing out every little itty bitty problem but it always came across as if he was trying to make money or reprimand the owner for being so stupid to have the particular pool system and solar. I was not looking for a warm fuzzy pool service but I found Dan to lack professionalism and his constant negative attitude about everything was not the kind of person I want working for me. His prices were also higher than my previous service which was not a problem if his attitude was not such a downer to deal with. To his credit, he did answer phone calls promptly.

I picked Corwin Pool Service based on the mostly positive Unilocal reviews, and this is one of the few occasions where Unilocal put me on the wrong path (more on that later).
Now — to be clear, it might be that all the positive reviews were justified; from them it’s quite possible they do a great job with your average, older pool. But in my case I clearly made the wrong choice going with them.
Let me explain:
I have had pools for decades now, but this was a new pool in a new home (both built in 2013). So I had some of the latest stuff put in – including a very fancy smartphone-​based control system, SWG, fancy skimmer, etc. This pool/​home is also in a new neighborhood so I had to find a new pool service.
Right after the first few services it was clear that Dan doesn’t really service any other pools just like (in terms of equipment) mine — he basically told me at one point. But rather than try and learn it, and /​or comply with my instructions/​requests he basically kept blaming me and/​or the pool for the fact that he was basically maintaining it incorrectly — we had long discussions over email where he basically disagreed with all my instructions and requests — to deal with the couple of things my pool is «different» from all the other pools he maintains — and tried to convince me I was wrong and and he knew what he was doing.
Well, I gave him the benefit of the doubt — maybe he did know what he was doing — but today I got home to a green pool. Two days after he came to do his weekly service.
I’ve never had a green pool. Ever. And given I’m paying him to come in weekly to maintain the pool (which he has — to his credit he’s never missed a weekly appointment) that’s just ridiculous.
So *I* was right and *he* was wrong. Not that I needed to prove that — after all a customer is always right… right?
Even after I told him about the green pool he still blamed me («I feel I don’t have access to your system» he said) and the pool («Your skimmer design is in about 1% of pools, for a reason»).
Oh, and at one point he actually «lost» a piece of my skimmer basket (which *I* had to replace since he basically blew it off until the next appointment).
He also does weird stuff, like putting the pump on timeout mode right after adding pool acid (which goes against the very explicit instructions on adding acid to a pool — you’re supposed to make sure the pool pump is running for a couple of hours after you add acid). And I asked him to check check and/​or balance CYA or monitor CH levels he totally blew me off.
So if there’s one thing I simply can’t agree with the reviewers is on this: he’s not «extremely professional». In fact, his behavior was far from professional; blaming the customer and the pool for essentially failing to maintain it is not what a professional should do. If you can’t handle me or my pool, walk way and say you can’t handle it, don’t keep collecting your check and let it go green.
On that note: last time somebody posted a negative review he not only tried to get it removed by Unilocal,he asked all his customers to post a positive review to balance it out, saying «I have no idea who this Trisha K. person is, please help me!». That’s — also — unprofessional. Does explain why the disconnect between the positive reviews and my experience. And, by the way, if anybody thinks I’m not telling it like it is I have emails documenting all of what I describe above. Emails that contain my name exactly as it is in my Unilocal profile (and it’s not like the spelling of my name is common…) so he can’t possibly deny that he knows exactly who I am and what I’m talking about.
We’ll see what happens this time; if my review disappears or is followed by 5-​star, «that reviewer doesn’t know what he’s talking about» reviews, you’ll know what has just happened…

Dan has been extremely professional and always on time and NEVER tricky. I appreciate his help. Whenever I have a problem he is very responsive.

Probably the trickiest pool guy ever is Dan Corwin. Charges for unauthorized services.
Doesn’t actually show up. Sends a young assistant to do the work which is inferior.
Pretends not to receive text messages which are on record as received. Strictly Out for as much money as he can grab OR extort

Dan was on vacation in Hawaii when he answered our call. He managed to service our needs remotely and has never let us down with his service. He makes great recommendations and referrals. You can tell he cares about the customers and the quality of service. Highly recommended.

Dan is a complete professional. Very straightforward and honest. My pool developed algae over the winter, so I called Dan to come take a look. He scheduled a time that was convenient for us both and quickly assessed my issues, made smart recommendations, and put a plan together to get my issues resolved. Dan came promptly the next Monday and in no time he had everything cleaned up and resolved and my pool is back to new again.
Dan was extremely fair with his pricing and the quotes he gave me for parts were right in line with what I found after quickly researching online.
Dan was also very reasonable in quoting a monthly pool service rate.
I found Dan thanks to helpful reviews on Unilocal and I hope that I can pass along many future customers to him.

Called Dan of Corwin Pool Service last Saturday. Called several others, and nobody else was available or willing to come that day. Wanted to do a birthday favor for a friend and get his pool pump fixed. Dan came out within 10 minutes of the call, diagnosed and repaired the problem quickly. I would highly reccommend him, and my friend will now be using him for all his future pool needs.

Dan is great! Just moved to Vegas from San Francisco to a home with a pool and it was in need of serious service (turned green in 3 days after moving in). He tested it and recommended a complete water change, cleaned all the black algae, checked pumps and filters and got it back on track! Will start using Dan to service the pool weekly now — straight shooter and good work! Highly recommend!

Called them for a pump emergency and they dealt with it efficiently. replaced the pump, did not try to sell me other stuff, no drama. I usually maintain my pool myself, and I get it that pool services live by the maintenance they offer weekly, but they even gave me some free advice on how to keep the pool as clean as possible and how to flush the spa and operate the valves.

My family and I relocated out of state. Two days after we moved our realtor called and said it was 110 degrees and our pool was turning ugly. I called a pool company recommended by my realtor and 4 days later, they said it would be another week before they could come out. Knowing I had a home inspections coming up, I knew I couldn’t wait.
I called Dan and he immediately looked at my pool and cleaned it. He also made recommendations on how to keep it clean and said he’d continue to service it until we close escrow.
Dan’s service was amazing and I appreciate anyone who understands sense of urgency!

We moved to Las Vegas about a year ago. Dan took care of the pool for the prior owners. We wouldn’t think of switching! Dan has been thoroughly reliable and is very knowledgeable about every aspect of pool maintenance. He is quick to respond to a call or text.
