Desert Breeze Dog Park

This is my husband’s favorite dog park. I’ve noticed that every dog park has the same thing:
1. Owners who talk with other people and don’t pay attention to their dog and their dog ooops or growls or nips at another dog and they are too busy socializing to pay attention to their dog and do something about it.
2. Dog poop — why? See above. Owners are socializing.
I’ve decided I will never make friends at a dog park and I’m okay with that.
So my last two visits here weren’t so great. One time there was a Frenchie meetup and a large group of dog owners. Most were cool but one had a little boy who threw dirt on all dogs, people, and kids around him. He threw dirt on me and on a toddler and I saw various adults scolding him and he continued. His parents were MIA and nobody had any clue who he belonged to. Then he threw dirt in a boy’s mouth. Seriously people need to watch their children. When the parents found out they took the boy away but still did not watch him.
The last visit here a watched a woman and a man with 2 pugs walk in with heads down and walk towards a bench. They were talking and their dog was behind a tree pooping. I watched it go down, they walked to their bench, poured some water, and sat down and talked. I went to let them know very politely and she defensively argued that she did pick up after her dog. This was clearly a lie because I watched it happen and no she did not. It would be nice if people were responsible citizens but I guess that’s asking too much. This lady was very rude and entitled, why should she not have to follow rules?
Luckily I’ve had to tell owners 3 other times their dog pooped and they thanked me, asked me where, and took responsibility. I’m glad there are some people who are responsible dog owners, not all are entitled.
No I’m not a dog police but I have a right to enjoy a park with my dog without stepping on poop. People really need to learn kindness.

This dog park is really big. The biggest one I’ve been to so far. We come here often. Some of the people can get a little feisty. I’ve seen lots of loud words exchanged. People can get real opinionated about how things ought to be running. Reciting rules and making a big fuss if someone isn’t aware of one of the rules and is breaking it. For instance bringing food into the dog park is enough to get yelled at even if it’s in your bag and dogs are to be fully vaccinated before coming. I appreciate the rules and yes I would like them followed as well. One time I was there a man started feeding my dog his human ice cream and I wasn’t pleased but all you need to do is to politely ask people not to do these things like I did. He stopped after I asked and fortunately my dog was fine. But yes you should never feed anyone else’s dog any food without asking EVER even dog treats! I came once at night around 6 and never again. My dog was attacked right when he came in the gate. Fortunately he wasn’t hurt but he was real shook up and we had to leave. And this dog was going around attacking all the dogs that got near it. You really shouldn’t bring a dog like that to a dog park. The dogs at night at least the one night I went seem a little out of control and there are so many of them too. It’s best to come here during the day when the better behaved dogs are here and not quite so crazy. Yes, there is a lot of poop that doesn’t get picked up and I’ve stepped in it before. Nothing worse than stepping in dog poop without anything to clean it off with. So watch your step. Some dog parks I go to I have to pick things out of my dogs hair after we leave and some times it takes days to get out, but here I don’t have that problem. The worse that has happened is he rolls around in the dead grass and that gets stuck to him for a little while but it all falls out within an hour or two. My dog really enjoys rolling around in the grass too. I come to this one so frequently because it’s so big and it’s the closest dog park to my house. My dog really enjoys socializing and there is always dogs here no matter when you come. So I’m sure you have read about the chair people and no I’m not in their clique, but they have always been quite friendly to me and they aren’t nazis like some of the other reviewers make them out to be. They normally get to the park between 1 and 2. They set up their circle and haven’t ever been rude to me. I appreciate them bringing their big cooler of water that all the dogs drink from. In fact when we come in they normally say hi to my dog when we first walk in. Yes I have seen people smoking inside the dog park and I don’t mind, afterall we are outside, and it’s vegas anyways even if we weren’t outside, but if you are a smoker try to be considerate of others and smoke in an area where there aren’t a lot of people around and throw away your butts when you are done. This is a dog park and dogs eat anything off the ground.

It’s a Dog Park. Expect the dogs to BARK. That’s normal. If you don’t like it, do not go to the DOG park. There are acres of land surrounding this DOG park designated for human children. Bring your small children to the designated DOG play area at your own risk. Does that mean aggressive dogs that bite should be tolerated? No. Dogs run, bark, chase and they are NOT human. Even the most well behaved animal may need to adjust to their surroundings. Not every larger dog who is brought into the small 35 lbs and under side are mean. Some are. The issue here is that some owners find their dog in between small and large. I have been told by some that being in the large play area puts them «on edge» so they break the rules and bring their larger dog in the small area. This in turn puts the small dog owners «on edge.» There needs to be a medium dog run in my opinion. People need to be mindful not only of their dogs but also their human children while in this park. I’ve seen plenty of toddlers get knocked over by small dogs. There’s a child play area for a reason. Watch your dogs, clean their poop, don’t bring sick dogs to the park, and bring children at your own risk.

I need people who don’t understand my review to please do us all a favor and google «Proper dog park behavior» or «Dog park etiquette» or better get on Youtube and search Great Dog Productions and watch some videos or get their phone app.
It is shame that this park has become progressively worse with fist fighting, and severe dog injuries. Forget about the big dog run from about 4−8p.m.
Too many people at this dog park are oblivious to what is/​is not acceptable dog park behavior. If my dog can play without chasing, biting, hurting, annoying, etc. other dogs and people yours should be able to do the same. Dog parks are not your personal space it is SHARED and dogs come and go. If your dog cannot be civil/​relaxed with ALL dogs DON’T COME! Don’t get pissed off if someone asks you to remove/​retrieve your dog. Not all dogs have the same play style. Don’t just look at your dog, what about the dog your dog is «Playing» with– does it seem happy, is it trying to hide or run away, is your dog knocking it over and/​or not letting it get up?
For the small dog park people– dogs up to *35 POUNDS* are allowed on the small dog side. That is a pretty big weight range. A 35lb dog is going to be bigger than those chihuahuas. Go and look up what breeds of dogs are around 35 pounds. You can not try to throw someone out of the park just because you THINK their dog weighs more than 35 pounds. Go to the dog park on Buffalo/​Flamingo or the park on Buffalo/​Washington if you need a lower weight limit. At the end of the day there is no scale and those weights are suggestions and not enforced.
Chair people-​why do you insist on setting up right in the middle of the park? If you must bring your own chair sit closer to the fence line. We are all here to let our dogs run and play, they shouldn’t have to navigate around you and your damn chairs!
I wish parks and recreation would consider putting this up at all Vegas dog park entrance gates:
*No aggressive dogs. Dogs exhibiting aggressive behavior are to be immediately removed from the park.
*Discourage your dog from behaviors that trigger conflicts such as bullying, pestering, charging/​ambushing, full speed body-​slams, mounting (Humping), and incessant barking.
*Dogs must be under voice control and obey owner commands at all times.
*If your dog gets in a fight, exchange contact information and leave the dog run. You are responsible for any injury caused by your dog.
*Keep dogs away from entry gates. They may intimidate newly arriving dogs or dash out the gate.
*Dogs 4 months and older must be spayed or neutered. This is Nevada law.
*Dogs must be licensed and immunized.
*Discourage digging. If your dog digs a hole, fill it in. Who needs a broken bone be it dog or human?
*Clean up after your dog. Bags and trash cans are provided.
*No smoking inside the dog run.
***Common sense and courtesy go a long way when the success of a dog park relies on the people who use it.***

TIP: Follow the speed limit when driving around DB park unless you want to get pulled over. Cops hide in the parking lots just waiting to catch you.

The small-​dog park is OK. It has quite a few places to sit, some shaded by a shelter and others by trees, but it’s a little on the small side. This isn’t a problem if your dog is a tea-​cup size (which a lot of the ones here are) but if it’s more medium-​sized, you might be viewed with some concern by other owners and your dog might not find a suitably sized playmate. With all the seating, owners tend to just plant themselves and not really watch after their dogs. That said, I’ve never seen a problem. Unlike the large-​dog side.
My dog is about 27 lbs. and has grown up playing and rough-​housing with dogs three times his weight without a problem. Until we took him to the large-​dog side. There, the dogs have formed their own pack, are not welcoming to new dogs to the point of being aggressive, and the owners are generally too busy chatting among themselves until fights actually break out. Then, it’s a slow trot over while yelling commands that their pets have clearly never heard before. After my dog was completely surrounded by their dogs barking, growling and starting to lunge, we hauled him out of there as quickly as possible.
A much better choice, regardless of your dog’s size, is the Kellogg Zaher Park a little further up Durango at Washington. The runs are much bigger, there is far more grass, water fountains for the dogs are within the fencing, owners on both sides are way more attentive to their animals, and while there have been a couple problems over the years (and I tend to take my dog out daily so a couple problems is really statistically insignificant), they have been caused by first-​timers who are never seen again. One caveat: there aren’t as many places to sit. But that’s a good thing. Why should the dogs be the only ones getting exercise?

We go to this dog park a lot with our two large puppies a Lab and a Pitt. We really like this park because for the most part the owners are nice and are responsible with their own pets. There are two separate enclosed areas for large dogs and small dogs but sometimes they open up a the larger enclosed area when there are a lot of large dogs. It was open on a Monday I remember. Most of the dogs are cool with each other, owners don’t usually bring their dogs with behavioral issues although one time there was this dog that didn’t like puppies and snapped my Pitt. That’s about the only problem I had there. Well that and dog poop. Sometimes owners just leave their dogs and socialize with each other that they don’t pick up or don’t see their dog making a mess. I stepped on poop once.

This place is dirtier than a prostitute’s vagina and I’m being nice. The very last time I went there, I stepped in dog crap twice because people fail to pick up their dog’s poop. So, watch where you are stepping because it’s a land mine out there. Secondly, I saw gross bloody poop and I was so focused on that, I stepped in dog crap the second time. My last straw was when this lady came in with her dog and she was yelling out her dog’s name (trust me, it’s a name you can’t forget). I look up and it was the same lady with the same dog at the vet with parvo virus. I picked up both my dogs and ran like the scene from forest Gump. RUN FOREST, RUN!!!

this is great park but lately there have been a lot of people fighting te cops have had to be call a few times

Awesome dog park! Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was like a giant pooch party! So many other little dogs for our papillon to run around with.
The space offers a lot of green grass for your dog to run around in and a couple of circular planters that provide plenty of seating.
The only con are the many wide steps that lead down into the park from the main entrance just behind the baseball field, i can see this being a problem for some people so just an FYI.
Great dog park! One of the best ones we’ve been to here in town.

I’m so excited to be living near this dog park. However, I think my dog is more excited than I am.
Like most dog parks, this one is separated into larger dogs weighing over 35lbs and smaller ones weighing under 35lbs. I’ve got a little ChiPin so we obviously belong in the smaller one.
This particular park gets popping with the dogs. There is usually a lot of people here with their furry canine friends. There are tennis balls scattered about, water buckets, a beat up frisbee and most importantly. A LARGE FIELD. I don’t know about you guys, but I love seeing my dog run around and use up all his energy. It’s that Pinscher in him, I tell ya!
I’ve been to the dog park on the East side along with the one in Henderson and this one has got to be my favorite because there are tons of tiny dogs that come here. The more dogs means more friends for my dog.

I added the dog park part of Desert Breeze as a separate area because I primarily spend my time at the dog park rather than the rest of the park.
We really enjoy the dog park area! It’s not the nicest park in the world, but it’s large, has friendly dogs, some areas to sit. Our dog loves running around and meeting new dogs here.
They have the standard 35lb and over big dog run, the 35lb and under small dog run, and one area closed for maintenance which rotates.
In order to get here, if you’re going north on Durango, make a right on twain. We usually come from the north so we make a left on Twain. It’s right off that small entry road, you’ll see it as you’re driving up.
Definitely recommend this park, we bring our puppy every other day or so! Haven’t had a problem at all.
