Discovery Children’s Museum

This children’s museum is amazing! So many areas with a variety of activities catering to different age groups keep the options interesting. I love that they have a new traveling exhibit available every 4 – 6 months to add to the excitement of a visit. My children are young so there is quite a bit beyond their interest/​ability, but still plenty to do for several hours. We opted for the annual family membership, which I found with several visits paid for itself and was well worth it. For the under 2 yr old crowd there aren’t many options. But if you have a baby in tow, there is a nursing nook in the pre-​walker area (Yay for nursing friendly!) This is one of our favorite family friendly places in Las Vegas.

This place is meant for kiddies over the age of 1. My boyfriend and I decided to join a friend and her daughter. Unless your baby can walk, there isn’t much to do. :(I love this place though and I definitely will take my son back when he’s able to do more of the activities they have there. Price per person is $ 14.50. It’s a little too much but it’s well worth it with all the activities they have to offer. Bring your own food though because they only have vending machines for snacks.

Great place with a lot for the kids to do for a reasonable price. Would have given them 5 stars if it weren’t for animals in the vet exhibit with moldy food in their dishes.

Best science museum for my kids ages 2, 4 & 7. We’ve been going since it opened. Its’s clean, well staffed and never too crowded. Water area is super fun and there’s a crafts floor for kids to get creative. The special exhibits keep the museum interesting. Only con is they hiked up the prices recently. Almost considered not staying because of the price. Not sure I would recommend to friend because of the cost.

The one thing I wish they would fix is the hours. Bankers would be jealous with how early this place closes!
We have grandkids from 4 years to 12 years old and I think grandma has more fun here than they do. They all want to come back every week.
We have never met a staff member who was not friendly, helpful and seems to enjoy their job.

I absolutely love this place! There are always fun new exhibits for the kids-​and me– to explore! The staff is fun and friendly and jump to help if a child seems to be struggling with something. I also love the museum because the kids don’t realize they’re learning– it’s all a disguise! It’s amazing!

Great place to kill some time especially on a hot day. 3 levels of fun and activities, learning while playing. Love that there is so many different centers in the building. Can be hard to follow more than one kid when it is busy. Wish the hours were longer. It is hard to come here during the week when you have kids in school because they close around the time I can get them, make it through traffic and get here –hence the 4 star rating not 5

Got to be honest here. I am downgrading my review because of the cost. The new membership costs are outrageous and I won’t renew because of it. So, as a member since the old location, I will be saying goodbye to the children’s museum at the expiration of my membership. Maybe, if I had toddlers, I wouldn’t do this, but with a middle schooler and an elementary student, I am.
I have been purchasing a discovery membership with my mom as the second adult for a couple (3?) of years. While my mom didn’t take them too much, I really used it for my kids friends, out of town family, and my Girl Scout troop. To me, it was worth the extra money over a family membership to be able to occasionally take friends.
I paid $ 175 last year for my renewal of the discovery membership. The new price is $ 500. Alternatively, the new price for the three person family membership is $ 175. You now have the facts. Make your decisions accordingly.

tip: don’t use the snack vending machine. it’s broken and eats up all dollar bills (worse than spearmint rhino).
This place charges adult prices for kids over 1 year old which is not right but otherwise i suppose it’s worth it given the amount of play space they have (3 stories). My 18 month old daughter had lots of fun placing balls in the water area as well as the shoots. She played with everything she can get her hands on.
Would I be back? If I were to move to vegas, then yes. Otherwise, no.

Perfect for kids 3 and up. I would’ve given it 5 stars but my son was 1 at the time and most of the available activities were geared to children a bit older but he absolutely loved the ones that were accessible.
The water activities station was a big hit for him. They provide rain coats, bring a disposable poncho if youre a germaphobe. Speaking of germaphobes, this place is pretty clean. I was pleasantly suprised by the upkeep.
The staff is delightful and they are all over the place observing. When children are being a bit too wild on equipment I saw staff politely nudge them or ask them to get down etc.
Didnt really like having to pay full price for a 1 year old who can only participate in ¼ of the activities, but it was a pleasant experience.
He is turning 4 soon and we will definitely be back.

Always a fun time for all three of my kids (7, 5 & 1.5). Staff is usually pretty friendly, too. There is so much to do here, and the traveling exhibits are always cool.

I was here for the first annual Adults Night at the Museum, an event to help benefit the Justice League of Las Vegas charity. I don’t know how Unilocal hasn’t had an event here for their 21+ year old members yet to enjoy their inner child but this place rocked. I hope this place has a wine walk one night!
Honestly I don’t know where to begin, the first second and third floor has their own activities and features but you take it slow going through them. First floor had a water feature but as childish adults we were shooting the balls like basketballs at the top, try it when you’re there!
They also had a silent auction with the prizes ranging from $ 200-​$ 700 in value, we didn’t win any but they were definitely worth the grab. The drinks were available at the 2^nd and 3^rd floor, the main area where the free hotdogs were served seemed like the best place for drinks to be served but they had drinks serving at an open area at the third floor also.
You’ll really get hands on with the Discovery Children’s Museum if you come here but I hope they decide to bring it back, it looked like a success. I know I’ve always wanted to come here but have no kids of my own, if you feel awkward also, just pretend you’re with that person and just go!

If you’re coming for Star Wars Day, and you have a membership, be prepared to wait longer than non-​members. Unfortunately it is not well organized and they underestimated the number of people coming.

–Interactive friendly staff (give parents a break by helping your kids)
–Huge staff (attendant monitoring kids; they don’t watch your kids but they make sure the parents are and help kids get back to their parents etc)
–Very cool play areas (pretend play areas: grocery stores (with a working checkout), airport with a luggage scanner, water zone)
–Educational
–Free parking garage
–Adult sized apparatus for kids (saves from head bumps and having to crouch etc.)
–Bathrooms are clean and up to date
Cons:
–Admission price*
*We felt like it was a lot. We were hesitant to go. But so glad that we did. I hesitate in saying it’s worth it. But it’s worth it for the quality of the product they’re giving you. If we lived locally we’d be an annual pass.
–No other cons (this place is great)
Recommend:
–Wear shorts and short sleeves.
–Shorts because it is slightly stuffy (even on a cold day)
–Short sleeve shirts because of the water zone.
–With 3 kids, we could probably spend 4 hours here.

Detailed Explanation:
$ 14.50 is steep for kids over 1 years old for how much a family would want to pay at a museum. But it’s the difference between Disneyland and Magic Mountain. All of our kids thought it was the best kid’s museum they’ve ever been to. You get what you pay for.
For a 1 year old, it’s a rip off because they can barely walk. So they should up the age to 2 years old.
But I think there is a lot to do for kids over 2. We brought a 6.5 year old, 4 year old, and a 2.5 year old and they all loved it.
Highly recommend you coming with your friends are their kids.
If you’ve been to Pasadena’s Kidspace Museum, there are some similarities but this place is better. For example, the apparatus where the kids and parents can climb up is designed to fit tall adults (even the slides). Additionally the apparatus is one way you can travel between each floor of the building (genius!) so you don’t have a boring trip all the way down.
Within the apparatus there are all these cool things to do. They have a catapult. They have a kids sized «light brite» station. There are a few slides. It is the by the far the coolest apparatus by a mile. It’s not like adventureplex or anything that involves a heavy amount of physical activity or sweat.
Everything is indoors. The parking garage is free and in the same building as the museum. Don’t park in the adjacent lot as that is metered.
In the waterzone and on the second floor you can place balls in this track and watch the balls travel up and go thru the this little maze.
They have a car area where you can actually rotate the tires (remove the threaded lug nuts and take the tires off).
Now the reason why I think the $ 14.50 is justified.
They do everything top notch. There are museum employees stationed at every single section and even one attendant that goes up and down thru the apparatus to ensure kids aren’t left unattended by parents. One politely asked my daughter to find me because she wasn’t allowed to be left unattended.
They have these educational shows and stations that teach the kids about a lot of stuff.
They also have a water zone. It’s on the first floor but everyone recommends to do this at the end so your kids aren’t soaked.
My wife and I witnessed most of the workers employing a «clean as you go» policy. So as we left an area they came by to wipe it down.
So you can pay less at another museum/​kids group but it won’t be nearly as fun. And it’ll probably be tough for you to watch your kids with no help.
There is so much to do here it is awesome.

This is great place to kill (at least) half a day with younger children. My daughter is now 9 and she is probably on the cusp of outgrowing the place. There’s lots of hands on activities and a couple of pretend areas where the kids can use their imaginations. Admission is reasonable and parking is free.

At the time I visited (jan 2016), the museum was in need of repair. A lot of things have signs on them promising they would be replaced or repaired. The more complex the thing, the more likely it was not working.
A large floor space was locked off as a «temporary exhibit». It was a big mistake to bring my 9 and 7 year old here, they did not find much to engage them we were out in 30 minutes. It felt like a big macdonalds play center — that cost $ 45 for the three of us!
We had visited several years ago when they were younger and it was more crowded and a more suitable for their ages then, and I don’t remember anything being out of order. As far as children’s museums go, over-​priced and under-​delivers. IMO adults should be free.

Fun fun fun for the young ones. Great place to go with your kids. Bring an extra set of clothes if your kids want to play in the water section. They will get soaking wet even with the loaner rain coat.

Activities every hour and learning is FUN! Wind dynamics, recycling, building, water works, textures and art. Kiddo asks the volunteers in blue to explain the activity of the create your own … Art, windmill, neuron… So much to do! Center of museum is a creative center so floor transitions are seamless… 4 floors! Wear gym shoes because you’ll be following your kiddo around endlessly. Loved this place! Parking in garage. Bring your teacher badge to get a discount.

The tickets a re a little pricey considering you pay the same amount for kids as you do for adults, but it really is a fun place.
I feel like there is something here for everyone regardless of what your style of fun is.
My daughter was 1 ½ when we brought her here and she absolutely loved it.
There’s a theatrical stage complete with lighting, stage props, and costumes.
Some of the kids put on a show and it was really cute to see their creativity.
There’s a pretty badass pirate ship.
It has cannons that shoot rubber cannonballs, which was freakin awesome.
Just thinking back makes me want to go again.

Free entrance for the first full weekend of the month for Bank of America clients! Go to the Farm and Durango location and Will will take care of you and your kids minor checking accounts. Lol. For real though, go there and set one up and request for a debit card. It’s that easy!
As for the museum, all the reviews are true! The whole family had a blast! Definitely something to go back to every month!

It makes sense to get the membership. You can go to any of the Discover Museum in CA, NY, NV and Come any time of the year. They change themes with the seasons and holidays.
I’ll be coming more often with my little ones.

My wife and I have brought our son here a half a dozen times or more between the two of us. What a great place! My son loves it and it hasn’t gotten old for us as parents yet either.
The museum is very easy to get to. It’s centrally located in Las Vegas right next to the Smith Center. When you arrive, be sure to park in the museum’s garage on the south side of the building. It’s free, and there’s ample room. Keep in mind, the lot directly in front of the museum is paid parking marked for the Smith Center, but you can park there if you prefer. But why pay when the garage is free, and shaded!
The museum is three floors of awesomeness, with something for kids of every age. Quite a few of the exhibits/​displays stay the same, but many of them change too. Covering the arts and sciences, most everything is designed to be interactive.
Here are four things things that seem to be consistently cool: First, there’s a large tower in the middle of the museum with a spiral staircase up the middle and 10 or so levels. Each level has several interactive displays that teach about dozens of things. My son loves the air cannon that moves small plates of metal when you fire it; the wind generator that lets you see how sand drifts as a result of wind; the air tubes that suck in a scarf on one end, run it through twisty tubes that remind me of a crazy straw, then spits the scarf out overhead; and the looking glasses on the top level. Since there many more levels in this tower than there are in the building, there are tunnels and rope bridges to exit to the main museum on the appropriate level. There are also slides and climbing tunnels that transit between various levels (with signs to tell you where they exit, so you know where your child will pop out).
Second, there’s a theater area where kids can dress in a variety of styles and put on a presentation. The stage is accompanied by a castle on one side (complete with a place to pour foam balls out on an attacking enemy), and a ship (merchant, pirate… your child gets to decide) on the other.
Third, there’s a fantastic water area where the kids can learn how water flows, how locks work, how water pressure can carry an object into the air, etc. Totally fun. Have your young scientist dressed in clothes that’ll dry easily and bring a towel. It’s possible to get completely soaked. There are dryers and even drying booths available, but not changing rooms. Might not hurt to bring a towel too.
Fourth, there’s a construction area where your young ones can build lego vehicles and try them on a variety of tracks, or design and make paper airplanes and then test them in a vertical wind tunnel.
There are so many more great, permanent (or long term) displays too. And don’t forget there are a number of displays that appear to rotate often, to keep things interesting.
If you think you’ll be there over lunch (or snack) time, bring food. There’s a small snack/​break room area with several tables. Note that they only have vending machines in there, so don’t plan on buying anything other than drinks or light snacks on site. When you pay to enter, they stamp your hand, so you also have the option to leave to grab a bite, and return later.
In spite of all the awesomeness, oddly the gift shop seems to have been an afterthought. It’s very small. The first time I visited I expected a larger gift shop with a solid assortment of books, projects, and toys for the kids as well as the adults who brought them to the museum. Instead, most of the things in there are very cheap and overpriced trinkets, and not the kinds of things you’d expect to walk away with after visiting a museum of this quality. It’s probably a lost opportunity for the museum to help a great educational experience endure long after the child has left. Even if they’re expensive, an assortment of quality educational books and projects are a glaring omission from your last stop in the museum. If the gift shop was better, this would have been a five-​star review.
Overall though, the Discovery Children’s Museum is a great place year round, and it’s especially great in the summer. You’ll find it’s relatively easy to spend quite a few hours there as a parent. What an awesome way to escape the mid-​summer heat, keep your little one (s) entertained, and they’ll learn something while they play. Go for a visit: with your own kids, or when you have friends visiting who have kids. Very cool place!

This place is awesome !! If you decide to attend just prepare to spend hours upon hours discovering new and wonderful things. My favorite part of the whole place is the level where you can have major pretend play. They have a make believe Smiths that was so fun to shop in. My kids got to serve me Jamba Juice and I also got to take my pet cat to get a vet check up! Keep in mind this place can get busy but it has so many different things to do that honestly if one area is too busy move on to the next. The price seems expensive but it is worth every penny in my opinion but even just going once is something fun for kids a variety of ages. My children are 8 and 5 years old and loved it. Heck the kid inside me can’t wait to go back!!! It’s so much more fun than I imagined. Don’t make the mistake I did. Find the garage and park it’ll be free. I ended up

Great place to take kids in Las Vegas!!! It’s $ 14.50 per person ages 1 – 100. Or $ 100 for a year pass.
They don’t sell food inside but they do provide a room on the first floor with tables and chairs to eat a bag lunch from home. Or you can leave and take advantage of the downtown restaurants and come back into the museum with your same-​day re-​entry stamp. So the fact that don’t sell overpriced meals is not a downside to me.
There are tons of staff walking around at all times putting things back where they belong. Because the museum is SO interactive, kids can touch and play with absolutely everything! If they waited until the end of the day to «clean house» it would be a disaster an hour in. You always feel like the props are where they should be for the kids to enjoy.
There’s a water room that literally gets the kids soaked. The raincoats provided are usually wet from the previous kid. My suggestion, let that be the LAST room you enter before leaving and have a change of clothes in the car ready to go!

WOW WOW WOW!!! This place is AWESOME. Everything about it was top rate.
Very easy to find in a brand new building. Went on a wednesday and it was FREE parking.
As we entered the frosted glass doors we were greeted by lively colors and buzzing energy. The front desk people were efficient and gave us some helpful info. The $ 15 entry is a lil steep but totally worth it.
The museum is comprised of 3 floors with tons and tons of hands on activities. Science, Art, performing art, scientific research and a water world just to give a few examples. Lots of art materials to create masterpieces you can take home. The volunteer student workers were great. Most were really helpful and supportive.
This is a MUST if you are a local or a tourist with kids. An absolute MUST.

I opt for an annual membership. Since the museum is open 7 days a week, I can take advantage of many museum visits a year. Rather than trying to complete a full tour, I let the children determine where we should spend our time. Also, we may arrive and stay for an hour or reassess and stay for an extended period.
I look forward to the special events. There are theme exhibits focused on art and science. There is a birthday facility. Whether it’s been a public or private event, the times are fun and engaging.

What an incredible museum! A bit costly at $ 14.50 per person (after 1 year old) but it was the best activity we did in Vegas for our son. It was nice that garage parking is free. I love our Phoenix children’s museum but this one puts it to shame with unique, toddler-​friendly activities, friendly staff and abundance of family restrooms on all floors. It was clean and creative. The bathrooms even had cleaning charts for staff each hour.
Our son is two and the water world exhibit on the first floor was able to hold his attention for 45 minutes! The large climbing area that scales the three floors was. Bit too large and intimidating for our little guy but still really cool.
The second floor is such a neat focus on careers (mechanic, banker, construction, vet, grocer, pilot, etc). There are hands on activities to introduce kiddos to the careers with buttons to push, groceries to bag and scan, tires to change, bags to check on a conveyor… really the possibilities were endless. There was also a great section about health and nutrition.
The third floor was great for older kids with building areas and car racing. There were also block building and arts and crafts areas. The biggest hit seemed to be this ball tube area that sucked up plastic balls and they would follow a track down a pinball grid or various other trails.

Our friends (with kids) invited us (without kids) to this place for a day of fun. Sure, it’s a «kids place,» but us adults had a blast as well. Our friends’ annual pass allowed them to get us in for free and we spent the better part of the morning there, checking out all the exhibits and activities. By the time we were ready to leave, we had to drag the kids out of there! It’s a great place to find your inner-​child and to teach and learn along with your children (or, in our case, your vicarious children). I’m sure at some point we’ll go back to play with the water exhibit — that was too fun!

This place is a welcomed addition to Downtown Las Vegas. The building and its architecture are amazing first of all. I love the art Deco look of the Smith Center.
We had been here once before and came back probably a year later. This time we bought the family membership so we can return again and again. This will be great entertainment for the kids and with the exhibits changing occasionally we look forward to new and exciting adventures and Discovery each time we go. If you are a local go ahead and splurge for the membership. It will pay for itself after 3 or so visits.
The most fun the kids have is the huge multi story play structure and complex that has many things to explore in itself. Another popular with the kids was the Water World area. They could have played here all day and we look forward to playing here on a hot Las Vegas summer afternoon.

What else can I say other than this is the best children’s place ever! And that includes billion dollar corporation’s!
I literally wish I could transplant Discovery and place it in Atlanta. It is THAT RAD!
You will be here for hours! No lie! 3 levels of everything interactive that you can think of! And great if you want your kids to take a longggg nap! My son took a 3 hour nap afterwards!
It’s fantastic for all ages! They have everything from babies up to about 14ish years old. There’s a constant flow of crafts on every level it seemed. And super sweet staff that basically cleans up after the kids and makes sure they don’t get hurt.
There is an entire room of water tables! Even part of one has a block table… in water! There’s also water guns, water chimes, ball shooter machines… Oh! And don’t worry, there are plenty of water ponchos and hot air blowers because the kids get soaked!
There is also a room filled with almost every play career you can think of like a auto repair shop, grocery store, juicery and the children can earn a «paycheck» and «cash it in».
Darn…I could spend hours trying to tell you everything that’s in here!
But something that I thought was awesome was that there is a comfy sofa in the baby/​toddler area that’s specifically for nursing. It’s not in a gross restroom, but still somewhat tucked away without a door so a nursing mommy can be comfy and still watch their little ones run around.
It’s $ 12 for ages 1 – 99. Yes… Maybe if you’re 100 you get a discount? Haha And children. Under 1 are free.
Also free parking!
Whether you live in Vegas or you’re from out of town, go here! Better than anything in town! Well worth $ 12!!!
