Island Pet Hospital

I’m not the type to write reviews often however I thought it was necessary this time around. I’ve been taking my senior dog to Island Pet for years. As she is 18 years old, shes been to the vet a few times in the last 6 months. Every time I was told «If she’s still eating and drinking and quality of life is still there, I don’t see why she should be put to sleep.» Every visit the Dr took x-​rays, bloodwork, and ultrasounds yet they could never pin point why she was excessively losing weight. These vet visits cost a fortune yet every time I’m told I would receive follow up calls to see how she was doing and never once received a call.
Last week while out of town my brother had to take my dog to an emergency vet visit (to the vet he goes to, Charleston Pet Hospital) and the Dr there told him to consider putting her down. When I got back into town, she passed away. Since it was late night, my family took her to the Emergency Vet on Tropicana & Durango. Now THAT place is AMAZING. The staff was so nice, cared about us, and grieved with us.
The next day I called Island Pet to update them on Peanut and the girl on the phone did not care what so ever. She said «Okay» then hung up on me. I even called the pharmacy for myself that day and the lady on the phone could tell I was distraught, asked me how I was doing, and told me to feel better. SOME RANDOM LADY ON THE PHONE WHO HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS GOING THROUGH WISHED ME WELL BUT MY DOG’S OWN VET OF YEARS WOULDN’T???
Shame on your staff! I will NEVER come back here again nor refer anyone here.

Terrible!!! I have been there 2xs now. 1^st time I thought maybe the Doc was having a bad day. His bedside manner was than desirable– NOPE, it’s just him! Today I took my dog, he did not examine her at all, told me that he needed $ 409 for x-​ray and blood work and the surgery would be starting at $ 1,500. This would be for spaying and Pyometra removal. I told him that it was outrageous. His response was «we are cheaper than California» Yeah, he said that! I told him had given me no second option. Then when I asked for antibiotics, he said «yeah, we can do it, but I highly recommend the surgery». When I got home I called Southern Nevada Spay and Neuter clinic– same operation…$ 395.00!!! Mind you he never even touched my lil dog to examine her, only to give her a shot. DO not waste your money here!

I love Island Pet! It doesn’t matter who my fur babies (cats) see, both Dr. Collins and Dr. Watson do everything they can to make my babies and I comfy and reassured. They take their time to educate me and my family of our pets’ conditions and we never feel rushed or not important. I would recommend Island Pet Hospital to any person who wants the best care for their animal loves.

Didn’t have to wait for my appointment time. Place seemed cleaned and organized. The doctor was very friendly and the exam was free as a first time client. We will be back.

I do like the Vets but the front desk receptionist are very rude and cold. One in particular, Sara, she will never smile, greet you or try to act like she actually likes animals. I think it is just a job for her and she really doesn’t care about you or your pet. I will not use them anymore with their rude staff. It’s really sad because Island opened it’s door with some wonderful staff and great doctors and now the service is terrible. I don’t know how the doctors don’t see this themselves.

I recently moved from Pennsylvania, and was in need of a vet for my dogs and cats. I feel blessed to have connected with Island Pet Hospital. The staff is very knowledgeable and caring. There aren’t enough «Stars» on this review page to rate them !
I am a client that needs to have a vet with «hands on» exams. I feel that the staff is sincere in their loving touch with my animals. They always cuddle and talk to the animals, and it helps to calm any pet who may be anxious. And their knowledge is unsurpassed.
I had rescued for 20 years in Pa, so I am familiar with a lot of conditions, and a lot of treatment options. Island is very flexible with my thoughts and decisions.
I am «dancing in the streets» happy !

I take my 2 dogs and 1 cat to this veterinary facility and I love it. The staff are great and do their best to accommodate their patients. I have been taking my pets here for over 7 years. I love this place because they give military discounts and their pricing is competitive. They also refer out to specialized facilities to better serve the patient (s). :)

Upon a recommendation from a friend, who I know uses Island for her personal pets and also with the rescue organization she associates with, I decided to make an appointment for my lab. She suggested Dr. Collins so that is who I made the appointment with. Dr. Collins really took the time to address the concerns I was having and did not rush the appointment at all. He really engaged with Jenna, like on the floor petting her, which I thought was really cool. Never had a vet do that before. You can tell he really loves animals. This is the first vet I recall asking me what food I feed because they put that in the chart. The office visit was $ 45 which is about the going rate, and Dr. Collins also trimmed Jenna’s nails as a courtesy. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because they charge for vaccination appointments. In my experience those don’t include an office charge visit. So besides taking my furbabies elsewhere for vaccinations I will be using this vet in the future when an issue arises.

Veterinary care seemed good, but the I have to agree with others that some of the reception staff have poor people skills. I have dealt with one lady who was very friendly and helpful, but there have been a couple who were just rude. Their prices also seem high for annual vaccines (more than double what we have paid at a good vet nearby), so we are going back to our vet that we know and love.

Ok… totally loved the experience here! Everyone was so nice and informative and pleasant… the vet was cool, down to earth straight forward! I am impressed! They totally love the animals they care for!

Front desk women are rude. They don’t care about the pets, it’s just a job for them. When boarding the owner has instructed his staff to keep certain breeds separate and he charges more to board them regardless of there history.
Elaine the boarding lady is awesome! She made us feel better about leaving Sasha, she loves dogs. I think this place would work best for small breeds. Since the boarding area is great for little ones.

Island Pet is wonderful. Dr. Collins and staff have been treating our dog (who is a bit tempermental) and our cat for about six years. Excellent boarding, as well! Staff is attentive, courteous, and efficient.

If i could give this place 0 stars i would. I brought my Dog here for boarding while my fiancé and i went on a vacation to mexico. We had brought him here before for boarding and there did not seem to be any problems but this time it was baddddd and i mean bad. we provided the kennel with our dogs food and even prepackage it for them. When we arrived at the vet a front desk assistant came and asked for the feeding instructions i told her 1 zip lock bag in the morning and 1 zip lock bag at night. she wrote it down on her sheet and then the kennel ladies came to get our dog.
When we got back our dog had never been more excited to see us. The kennel assistants brought us his belonging (chew toys etc.) well in the bag of his belongings was still 8 bags of food. I had prepackage exactly enough for him to have the entire time he was there. (we prepackaged the food according to weight and size of our dog so that he is not over fed and or underfed). I asked the assistant why there was still food in the bag and she said that they had only been feeding him half of what i had told them to feed them. (I was Pissed!!!) She went to get the paper that the office assisted had write on the day we dropped him off and from what i could see the feeding instructions were clear. i asked the lady why she was only feeding him half of the portion and she couldn’t even answer me she just kept saying it was a mistake and that it wasn’t written clearly on the paper. She didn’t even apologize instead she decided to tell me my dog was over weight. So then i tell her that she has been underfeeding my dog and she continues to tell me that my dog is over weight so then she makes it very clear to me that she could in fact read the directions but she just decided that she was a vet and knew what was best for MY dog and decided to feed him less than What i had instructed. One of the other kennel ladies at this point starts telling me that he is not starving and is fine and that he was also getting treats while he was back there. (Excuse me i did not tell you it was okay to give him treats and if he is OVER WEIGHT by what you say why are you feeding him treats and can you speak dog cause i sure cant and i sure as hell know that they cant tell you when they are still hungry.
At this point i was furious! (If my animal was over weight or you had any question about it you contact me in regards to changing his feeding period you do not take it upon yourself to change his feeding you are not a vet.)
so after this the front desk girl rudely takes my phone number to have the owner of the facility call me. As soon as i got home i weighted my dog he had lost 3 pounds in a matter of a 1 week under there care i could not believe it. at about 6:30 pm i received a phone call from the owner Roz, she apologized for the experience i had and told me that her employees would be disciplined for there actions. She asked if she could offer us free boarding the next time i came in i told her that i would have to talk to my fiancé and see if he was comfortable taking him back there. I told her i would call her back. I spoke with my fiancé about it and we decided that because she was planning on disciplining her employees that we were not comfortable take or dog back there because we were scared that the dog may be treated badly because of the issues we had. So i called the owner Roz in regards to this and told her were we stood with this situation and told her that we would be comfortable just receiving a refund for his stay and that we would just cut ties and leave it at that. She told me that she would no give me a refund because my dog was cared for while he was there (umm under feeding my dog is not taking care of him) she said she would split the difference with me. That was unacceptable for me why should i have to pay for something when you can not care for my dog properly that’s what i was told i would be paying for not for my dog to be under fed. The owner was not willing to take full responsibility for her employees actions and provide me with a refund instead she needed to make sure she kept her profit, instead of making her customers happy.
I will never come back to this place nor will i ever refer someone here again. I hope people rethink boarding there animals here because theses people are all about the money and not about the care of the animals and happiness of there customers.

The Island Pet Hospital is the best hands down. They have the CLEANEST facility I’ve ever seen and their staff is so courteous, helpful and super friendly. They make me feel like family, which is super important when trusting my animals care to someone. They are not expensive and are convenient to get to. They do everything and they board animals all at very competitive prices, and my dog always leaves so happy, I wonder if she misses me at all. I seriously love this place. No matter where I move in town this is my vet!
I can’t say enough good things about the doctors and staff and cleanliness. Its far superior to any vet I’ve ever been to in town or out of town for that matter. I never have wait times, and my dog loves it there. They treat her like she is a true member of their family. They are genuine, sincere and are knowledgeable most of all. They are always a phone call away and ready to help.

Poor customer service and rude staff is what you will experience here. Think twice and don’t go here.

I just brought my cat here for a free check-​up after adopting from the Nevada SPCA. The office was efficient and clean, and I didn’t have any wait time after filling out the necessary forms.
My cat has some serious plaque buildup although she’s only three and I was quoted around $ 300 from this office for a professional teeth cleaning for her. I’m not sure if that’s par for the course and might call around to see if other vets offices are around the same price point. Overall, a clean and professional environment and would definitely consider going back if it seems that $ 300 is standard for dental cleanings for cats in the LV area.

Thank you Dr. Goldman and Island Pet Hospital for taking the time to take care of my 2 little dwarf hamsters. Dr. Goldman took the time to explain the tumors and surgeries, along with a risk versus benefit discussion. Then he was able to perform the surgery that same day (I had a morning appointment) and picked up my little girls that afternoon. The staff there is great, very friendly and everyone wants to say hi to every patient that walks through the door.

I’ve used Island Pet for years & they have been outstanding in caring for 4 cats I’ve had. They truly care about animals; even the vets give kisses and play with them showing tenderness when they are healthy & tremendous compassion when all avenues have been exhausted and the most humane thing possible is to hold your little one while they are put down. The staff is very accommodating, understanding, even sending sympathy cards signed by everyone if you experience a loss. In the case of one cat they had been treating for a while who took a turn for the worse over a weekend and had to go to Emergency Vet, Dr Goldman called & expressed his sympathy and how much everyone enjoyed treating Ophelia.
They offer alternative treatments such as chiropractic, advanced nutrition options and wholistic approach to treating each patient. I have never felt price gouged here, quite the contrary, there have been numerous occasions when each vet has said testing, expensive procedures etc were unnecessary.
Another great thing is when you have an ailing pet, they allow you to visit and try to feed them but are very candid when decision making time is at hand. I think nothing of traveling from Summerlin to them & will always take my critters here. Recently, my 7 month old kitten broke a vase and cut her pad badly & they saw us 3x in a week with little notice and were able to help Antigone heal. Cannot recommend them enough and will be forever grateful for their true love of all animals!
*** Special note for cat lovers who want to use Soft Paws (the platic claw covers that come in cool colors & allow kitty to express their instinct to scratch whilst saving your furniture & skin: they apply these for you here, too. Last about a month & it is wayyyy easier than attempting to glue them on yourself IMO ****

I love Island Pet!
I started going here when I was paying at fortune at my last vet and my dog wasn’t getting any better. The old vet was treating my dog for a constant cough with various antibiotics and cough medicines. I switched to Island Pet after doing a search for holistic vets.
I took my dog to see Dr. Goldman and after some testing he diagnosed her with heart failure and switched all her medications… and even though the overall prognosis wasn’t great, he did help her and get her comfortable. And, I finally saw some results. He was excellent about explaining her condition, her medications, all the tests & the results, etc etc. We ended up losing her about almost 2 years later, but I believe the only reason we had her as long as we did is because of Dr. Goldman’s care and the staff at Island Pet. They even sent us a really pretty card signed by the staff when she passed!
I currently have 2 dogs, one of which was Dr. Goldman put on a special diet and helped her to lose 20 pounds!
The front desk staff is fabulous! The techs & boarding staff visibly care about the animals. I have seen all of the doctors at least once, and they are all awesome, but I am partial to Dr. Goldman!
You always want to believe that people love your furry kids as much as you do, but at Island Pet you really feel that way!

Island pet hospital is in a good location in the Albertson’s plaza on Ann/​95. The vets and techs are friendly and responsive. The vet used an ear thermometer on my cat, which I appreciated because my cat has been to the vet so often that I hate torturing her more than necessary.
I found Island Pet Hospital by searching for Holistic vets in Las Vegas. My goal was to find a holistic vet who didn’t look or talk like a cheesy crystal and beads monger from Venice Beach. Dr. Goldman seemed perfect.
He is very friendly and knowledgeable and has a pleasant demeanor. However, he and I had severe disagreements about the nutrition of my cat. That’s fine, and I wasn’t surprised by it, but he was also more than a little condescending. He belittled me and assured me that he, and the good folks at Royal Canin, knew what they were doing, and that I, a mere cat owner, had no idea of the best way to feed my cat. Oh, and have a bag of this Royal Canin kibble. It’s teh awesome!
Finally, I’m also concerned about the cat «boarding» area. Their boarding area for cats is reminiscent of the kennels at PetSmart where cats waiting for adoption are kept. I suppose this is ok, except that the kennel is kept in the front office, an area that is busy, loud, and drafty.
