Las Vegas 51S

It’s really a shame that most Vegas residents don’t even realize that we have a professional baseball team. Yes it’s minor league but it’s triple A which is literally one step below the majors. This is where young players stop before being called up or where veteran players come down for injury rehab/​or to sharpen their skills more. Cash man field isn’t the greatest stadium but it’s more than adequate. All staff from ticketing to ushers to concessions have all been friendly and accommodating in all the times I have visited. This is pretty much the only team that has survived being a sports franchise in Vegas over the years. Been around since the 80s. Hopefully they keep it up. It’s family friendly and they deserve to have the support of Vegas residents.

Let me start by saying that I am not a big sports fan. That being said, I must say that I loved going to see the Las Vegas 51S. The stadium has plenty of easy parking. The concessions are good and it’s just a good place for a family to have fun!

Until our hockey team gets here, the 51s are Vegas’ only option for pro sports– but a great option for local families. Tickets are cheap, all seats have a great view, and there’s a variety of overpriced concessions to knock out your junk food cravings.
My favorite part of seeing a game is interacting with Cosmo, the alien (?) mascot. He’s always down for a photo and great with the kids, he always lets the littles win the race around the bases!
TIP: Bring cash for parking or plan to walk from the nearby library lot.

Fun little baseball stadium. The 51s make good old baseball fun. There are the basic ball field eats and a small fan shop.

The Las Vegas 51s games are great for locals and tourists alike. The stadium, Cashman Field, is a short drive down the I-​15 from the strip. Their marketing department puts on various special events during game nights so check their website calendar for those. Tickets are inexpensive and it’s definitely worth the price for several hours of professional baseball.

For the Troll Flaggers/​Worthless Unilocal HQ employees
I drive a motor vehicle to the Boulevard exit of the US-​95; I bypass the stadium entrance and instead park for free [PRO TIP: save 4 $ every game] at the library lot for day games or the Natural History Museum/​Heritage Park lots for night contests. I walk to the Will Call box office window. I retrieve my tickets. I walk into the ballpark through the south gates — getting my free promo if it is a promo night — and grab a free program on the way to my bleacher seats.
Is that «enough detail about [my] customer experience[,]» you no-​life-​having trolls?
No? Alright.
I grab some water from the fountain [PRO TIP: save 10 $ every game] or bubbler if you are Bostonian, watching it flow into my Unilocal bottle (thanks Norm!) while listening to sweet sounds of annoying Top-​40 hits over the PA. I take my seat and place my bottle under the bleacher so that it is not heated by the direct overhead sun rays. I read a few pages from a non-​fiction baseball book that I brought for in between innings and before the first pitch.

Pitches are thrown by the appropriate players. I clap.
Swings are made by the appropriate players. I clap.
Calls are botched by the appropriate officials. I grab the top of my head and boo furiously.
I stand up when a 51 blasts a home run [PRO TIP: they can also be called homers].
I point at pop fouls so that those that are not paying attention in the section can be made aware that a fast dropping ball [PRO TIP: gravity, bro.] may be coming down to meet the top of their skulls.

Sometimes I use the restroom. I walk in through one door, wash my hands, relieve myself, wash my hands again [Pro Tip: this time I dry them as well], then walk out the other door. At this time, I take advantage of the fountain/​bubbler outside the restroom and collect more delicious Lake Mead drinking water into my Unilocal bottle.
Is that enough?
A History
The XFL once had a franchise here — when there was an XFL to have franchises — and that experiment ended quickly. There was some other American football league trying to make the best of the offseason of the shit NFL season, and the Las Vegas team won the championship (yay!); however, no one knew nor cared. And there are the Outlaws, an Arena Football League (AFL) franchise, but hardly anyone attends the games and it probably does not help that they are impressively terrible.
Why baseball?
Well, American football is not going to happen, so why not? Sure it is hot as all hell. Sure the park is not the most modern (when Fresno has one that looks state-​of-​the-​art in comparison, then building a new one should be in the works). Sure the traffic patterns during ingress and egress could use some work. But, it is America’s Pasttime, goddammit!
51’s
The final step before making the New York Metropolitans, the Las Vegas 51’s enjoy fielding some of the best of the National League has to offer who are recuperating from injuries as well as younger prospects on their way to the Big Leagues. They also play against the best, e.g., 24-​million-​dollar man Jake Peavy (SF) got lit the hell up by the 51’s this season:

This season they sit comfortably at #1 of the division, just like last year. (They ended up losing in the conference series to Reno.) There may be no better time to break out a Hamilton for a simple bench ticket and a bunch of Washingtons for beer on dollar beer night and make a night of professional baseball your entertainment choice of the evening.

We try to go to at least a couple 51’s games a year. I really miss going to MLB games. Is it the same? Well, no. But this is the closest we have so I go with it. Monday nights are a great night to take the family, most food and drinks are only $ 1. Can’t beat that. Their regular food prices are not bad either, def on the low side for ballparks/​special events where they usually gouge you. Thursdays are $ 1 beer night so if that is your thing def check it out. The park is small so not really any bad seats. Couple years ago we went to the 51’s Big League Weekend and saw Cubs v Rangers. I thought the tickets were kinda pricey for a preseason game in a minor league park ($ 50ish a ticket). Along with the tickets we got a voucher for a free ticket to another game during the season so that helped with the price a little. It was fun to do once but now we just stick to 51’s games. I’d rather take a road trip to see a major league game in a bigger park. The Big League Weekend sells out every year so I guess I am in the minority.

The games are still fun, but if you have kids they don’t have the side grass open anymore, my daughter got tossed out because the 8 people that were there had a private party. Not a lot of people at the game, probably only 25% occupancy. Tickets are still very cheap, but we generally spend another $ 25 per person on food, drinks, and snacks. Avoid the Nachos from Airmark, the cheese is about 50% water.

My favorite place to be in Las Vegas is at Cashman Field watching a Las Vegas 51s game.
This is high-​level PROFESSIONAL baseball (Triple-​A). It’s a great opportunity to see future stars of MLB inexpensively and in a stadium that puts fans close to the action. In addition to the baseball action the 51s have great added activities and promotional giveaways. Thursday nights offer $ 1 beers and if you ask around you might find some additional «secret» specials as well. For those who don’t want to be out in the heat they can go to the Club Level Restaurant (open to all ticket holders) until the sun goes down. Make sure you have cash on hand. Parking is $ 4 (cash only) and some of the concession/​beer stands are cash only. There are ATMs on site if you forget.
Tourists or anyone who has had one too many $ 1 beers can easily get a taxi to their hotel/​home as there is a dedicated taxi call box outside of the box office.

This is a fun night. If you like baseball… or just looking for something to do to keep away from the tables for a couple of hours… this is the place. The 51s are a AAA team affiliated with the NY Mets. Good seats are $ 15, many less expensive seats are available too. Seating is available on the lawn just outside of the right and left filed foul poles. Very kid friendly too. Give it a shot. Enjoy!

Great time to be had here, if you enjoy baseball whether as a family or by yourself this is the place to be. Love the promotions and giveaways. Wally is the best manager this organization has had. Mondays are $ 1 value menu night and Thursdays is $ 1 beer nights.

I haven’t been to a baseball game since I was a wee lass in elementary school. The strong smell of hot dogs wafting in the air and the rallying cries following Queen’s «We Will Rock You» took me down memory lane. I went to watch the 51s play on the opening night of the season, on Friday 4÷17÷2015. According to the attendant at the box office, the game was nearly sold out! Luckily for me, I had won tickets from Unilocal’s Play Ball contest.
I was seated in section 15 and had a good view of the game, the only obstruction to my view being some obnoxious cub scout kid who would not for the love of God stop waving his plastic giant blow-​up Alien over his head. Can you tell kids aren’t my favorite? :P
Some highlights of the opening game:
* The 51s knocked two balls straight outta the park back to back, Babe Ruth style.
* The 51s vs. Fresno game was pretty entertaining, and I for sure thought we had the game in the bag, but the final score was 11 – 10.
* Be very wary of sitting directly behind the home plate. Two players knocked the ball way way up in the sky, and then the ball plummeted back into the crowd. One poor kid got knocked right in the noggin and the paramedics came out and everything.
* There was fireworks after! But I didn’t stay that long because I wasn’t trying to get stuck in traffic.
TIP:There’s free parking in the State Office Building parking lot, otherwise it’s $ 4.
Worth a Return Visit?
I had fun and would come back to watch another game. I want to come back on $ 1 Beer Night for sures!
Unilocal 100 CHALLENGE 2015: #68

Quite possibly one of the unprofessional baseball organization I’ve visited. The announcer didn’t know how to pronounce the opponent’s player’s names, let alone the 51’s players names. The concession stands had lines that people were cutting in right in front of ushers, yet nothing was being done. Lines were also slow. Ushers also didn’t seem to care if someone was sitting in the seat you paid for. I had someone in my seat and the usher just told me to find another seat. Won’t return to watch this team next time I return to Vegas.

Made it a priority on my last trip to Vegas to catch a 51s game. I’m glad I did! $ 4 to park and $ 17 to sit first row is bargain in the baseball world! I don’t think I’d make it out to a 1:00pm game but the 7pm game was perfect.
Everyone I chatted with that was somehow affiliated with the orgaization was great and made me and the gf (big baseball fans) feel welcomed!

My fiancé and I really enjoy going to these games! We’re big baseball fans and the 51’s are top notch when it comes to Triple A baseball. They currently lead their division this season and they made the playoffs last year as well. I imagine that managers at this level have it very easy when their better players get picked off for the majors.
It’s tough to get out to these games during the summer but you can usually find a seat that’s open in the covered area… I would never suggest taking someones seat though! Maybe wait a couple innings before inching your way into these seats.
Also, I can’t imagine it would be the cheapest thing for a family to do on a regular basis. Parking, tickets, and concessions can add up pretty quick but for just the two of us it isn’t a bad deal.

The 51s have been around for a long time already (including as the Stars) and I hope that contiues to be the case for another long time. I like going out the the games a couple of time a year at least. The pricing is right for an affordable night out. While they don’t always win when I am there and they don’t always perform well over the duration of the season, they always put on a good show. And when they do win it is extra special. The last game I went to ended with a score of 19 – 2 for the Las Vegas 51s over the Reno Aces. That was a rather convincing win. It was good to see the home town boys do so well. I hope they can keep it up all season. That would be great to see.

Parking fees at Yankee Stadium (in a far lot) = ticket to a 51s game, 12 beers and a Chicago style hot dog. No joke. Take. Me. Out. To. The. Ball. Game! Any who, it’s tough being a minor league team these days. With 17 ESPN’s and regional sports networks, you can see your favorite teams play daily. The 51s do their best to keep things exciting for the fans though. There are tons of promotional days and discounted tickets to be had, plus the stadium is absolutely gorgeous. The fantastic mountain landscape almost makes you forget about the dozen crack heads you saw on the way to the stadium. Almost. Next time the heat dips below 90, go out and catch a game. You won’t be disappointed.

I used to have a mini-​season ticket to the 51s and then it seemed to become too much of a chore going to games so often and I fell away from going. With our Unilocal event here, it was time for me to get back into the summer pastime and enjoy a ball game.
The 51s have never been strong contenders for league winners. They have been affiliated with the Dodgers, the Blue Jays, and now the Mets. Except for the facts that the 51s won the other night, what fascinated me the most was seeing the «bottoms up» beer machine which was right below where I was sitting.
It was $ 1 beer night, so there were a number of people coming by. I asked Jared N. and Anthony M. how the thing worked. A short lesson later, I was watching the little magnet being pushed up as the kindly barmaids pushed the cups onto the filler. Fantastic!
There have been some rumors that the 51s will be re-​branding and using a different name and a new theme. The team has been sold and the new owners want to build a new stadium a block from where I live. Gone may be the Area 51 reference in their name and the mascot, Cosmo. Speaking of Cosmo, anyone who has to prance around in an outfit like that when the summer temperatures are in the 100s deserves to be paid well!
It’s fun to go to a 51s game and I’ll be back sooner than the years I’ve let go by without returning to Cashman Field for a game.

Oh baseball, how I missed you! We came here with a friend who was visiting. Tickets were pretty inexpensive and so was parking. It was a cheap night out at the ballpark for 3 people!
The stadium wasn’t packed (in fact I was a little saddened by how empty it was but it became a bit of a chilly evening and was early in the season). We received friendly service from everyone there and the stadium was pretty clean. They had your typical overpriced game food, but we went on dollar beer night and definitely got our money’s worth :) We arrived early and got to see the players signing autographs for some of the kiddos in the park.
The 51s totally kicked butt that night. There were some obnoxious drunks heckling them from behind us but it made for an even more fun evening because of how ridiculously loud and stupid they were lol.
Will definitely consider going back, especially for some of the better giveaways, since the tickets are so cheap and you can get a good seat.

First off its no Major League Game at a Major League ballpark. BUT it was still fun. And reasonable. 14 Dollars and i was sitting behind homeplate. A Seat where at Coors field it will set you back about 500 dollars. For 20 Dollars you can sit in the Dug out seats. Which is really right there. Go on Thursdays for Dollar Bud and Budlight Night. Mondays are Dollar Snack night. The beers were good. The food wasnt up to MLball park standards but it served its purpose. A little pricey but hey your at the ballpark. And you get a free spin on a slot machine, to win prizes. Plus the fans are fun to talk to and joke around with.
And its cheaper then sitting in a stuffy movie theater.
