Nevada Health Co Op

Like the majority of health insurance co-​ops started by Obamacare, this one was mismanaged from the beginning.
It seems clear that the leadership was paid too much for too little while providers and insurance brokers were left unpaid. Ultimately taxpayers will pay the price for politicians poor decisions.

This company is receiving one star because I do not have the option of giving them zero stars. They were kind enough to take my payment and then cancelled my policy for giggles. They were going to call me back after they «looked» in it. So, I decided to call back today and their phone is out of order. What a disgrace.

Got to send a parting shot at this group of crooks. Maybe they are going under is because they’re complete nits at accounting although they were getting paid exorbitant salaries at taxpayer expense. How difficult is it to send out a bill every month. When I first started I didn’t get a bill for 3 months. I called and complained. Then I would get two bills one month and skip a month. So my mistake I send them payments for 13 months instead of 12 and now they won’t refund my money. Geez, c’mon.

Well as of December 2015, they will no longer be in business. so I hope we all can find better service with another company.

If you want a hassle free insurance company do NOT go with NHC. You will have a hard time simply paying your monthly premium. Need to get ahold of CS? You’ll have to wait an hour or longer… If you’re LUCKY it’ll only be a 30 min wait. Most claims are processed incorrectly. So you have to call in to let NHC know they did it wrong, so they can reprocess. Otherwise you’ll get a huge bill from your doctors office. Sometimes the claims are not processed correctly even after being reprocessed, so your doctor gets annoyed and refuses to see you again until they pay your claim correctly. (Can’t blame the doctors for not wanting to see patients they’re not getting paid for) there are a million more reasons why NHC is horrible, just ask a few of their current members. (Very few get lucky enough to have minimum-​no problems with NHC) Again, if you want a good, hassle free insurance company, GO FIND ANOTHER INSURANCE COMPANY!

Without a doubt one of the worst insurance plans I have enrolled in since the ACA went into effect. I may as well set fire to my $ 349.00 a month. Worthless. Calls not returned, questions go unanswered, incorrect eob statements, can’t even apply my deductible dollars properly. I cannot wait to get out from underneath this plan as well as the ACA. Thank God I will have private insurance at the end of this year. The only time the ACA works is for those who get free insurance via Medicaid. My premium dollars go towards paying for those who are on Medicaid.

The folks at NHC-​Op are always helpul and friendly when I call, even when I am super agitated with my provider, the staff has a way of making everything okay. For example, I recently had an issue with a provider and they immediately sought to help solve the problem. Here’s the reason I had to contact them and the reason they only got 4 out of 5 stars (lack of providers for mental health care):
Nevada Health Co-​Op provides only Harmony Healthcare as a provider, so we have no choice… The following happened at Harmony Health Care…
My daughter suffers from anxiety attacks which she has been seeing a Dr. for now for about 5 years. With the help of Obama Care, she finally has coverage for services where she had to pay $ 100 per month to see her Dr. before. So, I (and remember I said ‘I’) made an appointment to see the new Dr. at Harmony Health care to get her meds but they only would see her for the initial consultation… no meds. Had to go back for emergency appoint. with her old Dr. to get the meds. 2 weeks later she was seen by her new Dr. who graciously gave her a six month RX because she was quitting but would not say why. She said something to the effect of, «you’ll know why!»
Well, it’s time to set up another appointment and I think I found out why she quit! The staff was rude and inconsiderate. They refused to let me (her father) set up an appointment for her and said she would have to call herself. AS I SAID, SHE HAS BAD ANXIETY! I asked to speak to a supervisor, she told me that I would have to send in a form stating it was alright to talk to me, I said I wasn’t requesting any information but was only trying to set an appointment. She then told me, «There’s nothing I can do!»

WE NEED MORE CHOICES FOR MENTAL HEALTH CARE!

I called in two times on a Thursday evening, after I holding for a operator for 30 mins & both times the phone hung up…

On August 22^nd 2014, I was rushed to the Emergency Room due to an agonizing pain that had been originating from my lower back/​kidney. Upon arriving to the Emergency Room (St. Rose Hospital), I was instructed to fill out the typical paper work that is necessary when going to any doctor’s office or hospital. I filled out my personal information along with my insurance details, and at no point was I told that my insurance would not be accepted to cover the treatment.
When I had received the bill of $ 10,506.00 I was in absolute shock because I had no idea that my plan hadn’t covered this, or else I would have found another hospital in which did accept my insurance.
Unfortunately I will not be able to pay this amount in full. I am willing to work out an arrangement with this company in which both parties can find a viable solution. I am willing to pay, but this company is not willing to understand my situation, and when I call I end up getting put on hold for sometimes 30 to 45 minutes. What this company lacks is customer service, and it is trying to set its clients up to pay more money in the end; the complete opposite of what an insurance company is there for to begin with.
Please, do not fall victim to this company as I did. Stay clear of Nevada Health Co Op and find a safer more reliable insurance plan.

This is my second year with them ! First year seemed great — now the hammer has come down all of my eob have been wrong. Customer service wait time exceeds two hours most days. Doctors are complaining they are not paid correctly and on time, and probably will not take them next year. I would avoid this company at all costs as I would not want to deal with the hours of corrective work you will have to do. It is resembling an Easte5rn European health co-​op that I saw growing up.

We have used Nevada Health Co-​op as our health insurance since 2014. During calendar year 2014, we visited this insurance company’s office more than we visited our physician and lab. We just tried to resolve many issues that occurred. These are few of the issues that continued to occur.
1. Monthly premium. Payment was off one month. We tried to call then had to visit the office few times to fix it. It took about three months to get this fixed.
2. Lab payment. My plan required a $ 10.00 co-​pay for each visit to lab. One time I received a $ 110 dollar bill from the lab which indicated my plan does not pay. After review, my plan should pay. I called and then visited the office to resolve the problem. It took me 4 visits to the Co-​op office to resolve this issue. At the same time, I kept receiving nasty «Pay or else» letters from Lab company.
My experience with the Nevada Health Co-​op is that their representatives are there to get you to go back home, to leave the office with assurance that everything is taken care of. They talk nice and are polite, but they don’ t resolve your problem. In addition Co-​op web site does not work. We were told that it was up and running, but we were unable to register and sign in. We were always assured it would work. We were told to go home, wait for few hours and try again. After few months of trying, I just get up.
In December 2014, I went to Co-​op office to change our plan from Platinum to Silver. Since I am dealing Co-​op directly (not through Obama Care) I filled out and left my Change Plan Form and paid my January 2015 premium. The Co-​op representative told me the change would be made and the Member Account Number will be the same.
January 2015 came and we received a new health insurance card with a different Account Number. We went to the Co-​op office with all our documents and cancelled check showing change and payment for January. As usual, they were very nice apologized and told me the Co-​op decided to issue new Account Numbers to everyone. I was told they will make sure our plan is updated.
Two days later I try to update insurance information with the Co-Op’s mail pharmacy so I can order my refills. I was not able to do this as the Co-​Op was required to send the Mail Pharmacy the new Account Number. I tried to call the Co-​op and waited for one hour and still was unable to connect with their representative, at this point gave up and began to look for other health insurance company.
In addition to all these issues, we were unable to locate any physicians who would accept the «Tier 1» insurance and only a few able to accept the «Tier 2» coverage under the Plan we were paying. Usually when we mentioned Nevada Co-​Op we were told that the doctor did not take that insurance.
