When my VA Optho team needed a specialist, I was sent here. I found them all extremely professional, caring and prompt in spite of the fact they seem to have a perpetually full waiting room. My vision is improving. That’s all that matters.

When you first call 702−369−0200 you have the HUGE displeasure of speaking to Tanya, the most rude, condescending, disrespectful, secretary! She will not listen to what you have to say and just transfers you to scheduling. Scheduling rings non stop for over 5 minutes. So you hang up and get Tanya again who actually gets an attitude with you. She talks down to you like you are child and doesn’t take into consideration you are contacting her because you are losing your vision, not only does she not take it into consideration, she doesn’t care, she laughs and transfers you again to scheduling where you have to sit for another 5 minutes listening to ringing. So finally when you hang up and go off on her asking for her supervisor, she then directs you to some other line where it is just a recording for over 10 minutes! I do not think it takes over 10 minutes to get a supervisor at this place and they really need to hire people that are not so rude.

What patients do not understand is that 20⁄50 vision after having a detached retina is amazing and profound considering the difficulties surrounding a detached retina. A detached retina can lead to blindness. It’s best for patients to completely understand what a detached retina is and seek a second opinion if you are unsure of the diagnosis.

I suffered from a partially detached retina for years and had regular appointments with Dr. Irene Voo to monitor the progression of my detachment. It was stable for about 5 years before it began to detach more and Dr. Voo determined it was necessary to operate. She performed the scleral buckle surgery on me which involves placing a silicone band around the eye to help stabilize it. I had the surgery 2 years ago and have been nothing but happy with it. It did take some time to find the correct contacts prescription since the vision takes time to stabilize. Her bedside manor and obvious knowledge of her job made my experience the best it possibly could be!

I got a detached retina and Dr. Hollifield operated on my eye the same day it was diagnosed. I was patient number four that he operated on that night. I went into the operation with 20⁄20 corrected vision and ended up with 20⁄50 vision(corrected) which essentially messed up my vision in that eye for the rest of my life. I felt that followup care was very haphazard. I was then told to go get a cataract operation in that eye yet two other ophthamologists who examined the eye said I didn’t need a cataract operation. I’m very unhappy.
