Ron Decar’s Event Center

There were some really great things about our experience and then, at least one epic fail.
Steve, in ticket sales, was fantastic in getting back with us and allowing us to use tickets from 6 months ago. I can’t say enough good about our experience in this regard. The space was easy to find with plenty of parking and it was pretty nice inside. We didn’t order the buffet or off the menu (the menu food looked better than the buffet) but we did try a piece of the chocolate cake and it was pretty good (minus all the powdered sugar). The performer, Art Vargas, was excellent, as was his band. We were not as impressed with his female partner, but she was still alright. I would definitely return to see him and his band. The stage was really reminiscent of what I would imagine cabaret stages of the 50’s may have looked like and the sound was a bit loud but very sharp.
Minor issues–
The wine list had nothing we recognized (except a brand my husband used to drink in college that was $ 6/​bottle) and what I did order (moscato) was pretty terrible. I wish they had higher quality wines from which to choose. Maybe their mixed drinks and beer are better? The drinks took about 20 mins to come out, as did our cake. While our server was really nice, the amount of time was excessive. The high-​top tables (general admission) are scattered throughout and you can sit at a table with a pretty good view. As someone else mentioned, the table clothes do have this weird embroidery pattern, so you have to be careful how you set your glasses down or else they will be unstable and topple over. The stools are pretty comfortable, the high chairs are not and I had to do everything to keep from sliding off the chair. Also, I had to keep shifting and moving my crossed legs out of the way of the servers and other patrons as they passed, as I think the tables are too close. There were these huge TVs to either side of the stage that broadcast the show, which was not in line with «vintage» and I thought it detracted from the ambiance. The room was cold and become freezing. I think if heavy velvet curtains were hung in a three-​sided box around the front door (and then you step into the room from there), it would help to keep out the heat and cold. Some of the staff is pretty young and appear inexperienced. For instance, one waitress brought water to my husband but not to me. A waiter brought a napkin and one fork for the cake and when we asked for a second fork, he brought that, but no napkin. It’s in the details. To be clear, these issues are all work-​arounds – could use some improvement but are not deal breakers.
The major fail was that the table in front of us, the table behind us, and the two ladies to the side of us at the bar were all talking, more as the show progressed, and sometimes simultaneously and loudly. A waitress was interacting, sometimes to the point of shouting and dancing, with one of these tables. I waited for about 15 minutes for staff or the owner, who kept walking by, to say something, but they did not. The patrons in front of us starting getting upset with the really loud table and asked them once to quiet down. I asked the table behind us to quiet down. It worked for about a minute and then started up, even worse. I got up to find the owner and could only find a server. I told him about the situation and he came back and said, «I talked to my manager, we can’t tell them to shut up.» (and that is the exact quote). At that point, I nearly lost it. The owner, who seems like a really nice and concerned guy, came over and apologized and said he would move us to a table in the corner (closer to the drafty door and with a much worse view of the stage). I told him no, that if he wanted an «elegant and vintage» place, certain standards had to be enforced, such as not talking throughout the show. He empathized but said «They are celebrating someone’s birthday.»
So bottom line, there are really no rules here, which is sad. I think he dresses in three-​piece suits and tuxedos to model the vibe, but you have some class-​less people showing up in sweatshirts or thinking they can talk during the show or take flash photography. As a patron, why should I have to move to a seat with not-​as-​good-​a-​view and closer to the cold because of some rude people? I think if the dress code and expected behaviors were printed on tickets, in emails and on the website, and reminded at the beginning of the show, that would actually work better to remind people not to be pigs. And then, if they do act stupid, as so many of them were acting last night, other patrons would not get upset or be required to change seats or leave… because the management actually enforces appropriate show behaviors.
Please Ron or other management, if you’re reading this, consider a dress code or at least mentioning the expectations of appropriate show behavior at the beginning of the show and then actually enforce it!

One question. how had I not heard about this fantastic venue? How has this secret space (open to the public) hidden away downtown eluded me for so long?
I was invited to join a group of senior citizens for a birthday party for a woman turning 84. I figured this was some geriatric spot downtown and was willing to go and support loved ones.
Waiting in line I still has no idea what to expect from this venue: was it a show? A dinner? A concert? My plan was to enjoy the night and not ask a lot of questions.
I noticed a wonderfully diverse (age and ethnicity) and well-​dressed crowd gathering at the door with us. Suddenly I was glad to have worn heels and to have put some effort into this outing.
We were a large group with reservations and they were clearly waiting for us. Ron was bustling around putting out fires and tending to all of it with grace and style. I just watched him moving around the room for a while and appreciated his professionalism. I heard a server whisper a comment to him about a difficult guest who was unhappy with her seating, and he whispered back a respectful and firm response. He’s a pro and I felt a certain comfort knowing he was at the helm.
Once seated a polite waitress let us know there was an open buffet and that we could redeem a drink ticket with her. I later read that seats for shows can include the dinner buffet, a la carte offerings, or no food at all.
The buffet was terrible, but who cares? You do not come to this event center for food. Period. The music started and we were treated to a Vegas debut of a group called These Guys. As they explained, they are based in LA and looking to find a home here in Vegas.
The acoustics were excellent and a group of talented, local musicians supported their sound: a blend of retro/acapella/R&B and funk. This talented group was putting on their first formal Vegas show and I felt grateful and elated to witness it Their set seemed to lack consistency, but even that was wonderful. We were all a part of their process. Talented singers who were carving out a piece of the Vegas experience for themselves. It was an honor to be a part of.
See the link attached to the business listing– this place has a steady stream of shows and musicians. Looking at the shows (lots of old R & B), I expect the crowd to skew middle age on up, but I have every faith in Ron’s ability to bring in young acts. This would be a perfect place for a young, hip, jazz/​Afro-​funk vibe. As it is, this vibe is a perfect place to come see local (and no so local) talent – truly talented individuals making a living – for a reasonable price. So what the décor is a little overdone? This town is a little overdone. The design aesthetic there speaks to a certain time and feel that was/​is unique to Vegas.
They host a number of events each week. Some seem to be regular events (Swinging Sundays) while others appear to be special events (These Guys). In addition to the shows, the space can be rented for wedding receptions, parties, and corporate events.
I am torn between 4 – 5 stars. Do I think this is as good as it gets in Vegas (considering: music genre/​talented performers/​live musicsans/​non-​bar environment/​variety/​price)? Yes.
Do I think Ron can do even better than he is already doing at Ron Decar’s Event Center? Yes.
I will be back.

Great experience at the Ron Decar Event Center last night. Enjoyed the Lewis and Martin Show. Lots of fun. Staff at the Center are excellent. They all seem to really enjoy working there and are clearly focused on ensuring guests have a great experience. The décor is very nice although I would recommend they find shorter length table cloths. Many of the cloths are much too long which lends themselves to a tripping hazard. Ron is a very gracious host/​owner. He is very customer focused. Outstanding live entertainment is offered at the Center. Definitely worth checking out.

There’s a lot of top rate talent on the stage at Ron’s Event Center. From the MC to the Saxe player and the singers, this is truly a place to dance, listen to amazing musicians and most of all enjoy with friends. The atmosphere is vintage Vegas… a pleasant change from overrated shows downtown and on the strip. Please check their web site for all their events and special shows. You should know that their liquor selection is top notch, but the red wine selection is disappointing. I wont rate the food until I have another chance to experience it and lastly you may be greeted by someone who isn’t exactly customer service oriented… however Ron is ALWAYS there to make things right. Look for him and tell him Rosie sent ya! Wednesday night was my first visit. I’ll be back and Im bringing friends!

It was my birthday and I was treated to this wonderful experience by friends. I had never heard of this place and now I want to shout it out to the world! Tonight was swing night but there was a great variety of music, as they encourage local talent to come up and perform! Enjoyed the buffet and Mr. Decar even gave me a slice of his decadent chocolate cake! Please check out the website as there are many different kinds of shows booked but be sure and watch for «These Guys», a young set of four men singing acapella, coming in September!

My family enjoyed the Sunday tribute to America show. Ron has created a fantastic venue and the entertainers are top notch. Go to a show and you will have a memorable time. I cant wait to go back. Viva event center.

Laughed when the band leader said that this tune «will take you back.» Well, I am 70 years old and the music they played would probably take my 97 year old mom back. Hits from the big band era of the 30’s. These band members for the most part have more grey hair (those that have it) then me but boy can they play. It is amazing to see how musicians can maintain their youthful vitality when they really get into the music. I was shocked at just how good and professional these guys were. They are and were craftsman. I would have thought visitors to Vegas would be standing in line to listen to what true old fashion professional musicians sound like. Have to admit they have peppered the band with some youth. Kind of gives assurance that this kind of music might live on.

Step back in time and experience what Vegas used to be like during the days of live music!
Surprised my dad with a Saturday afternoon filled with music from Bryce Harper’s 19 (I think) piece band.
The room is cozy enough to ensure there isn’t a bad seat in the house but large enough that you aren’t on top of each other.
The tix were $ 22 for front row (again, every seat was good) and it included a drink-​I assure you no where on the strip can you see this type of talent for less than $ 150pp.
They have a full menu of food options and I learned they have a full buffet option during evening events.
The upcoming calendar is full of eclectic choices for everyone’s taste-​were already planning on returning in a couple of weeks for a variety show of tap dancing, singing and old time burlesque and comedy.
Whatever your age-it’s a great way to spend time!

What a great place! Ron Decar met us at the door and seated us before the show… What a great owner… Very personable … This place reminds me of pictures of old Vegas and supper clubs… It has a great vibe and the food was good too!
We saw Michael Grimm perform and you can never go wrong with his show… What amazing singer and musician… He by far has the most incredible voice… Not often you see someone live who sounds just like his c.d.‘s… He is pure talent and gives his heart and soul through his performance… I used to see him at the Ovation Room at Gvr with his much larger band but tonight was more quaint with a drummer, bass player and lead guitar player… Michael’s wife, Lucie was welcomed on stage to perform a few songs along side of Michael and she is just adorable!
A small venue and it felt cozy like they were performing in your own living room… A show you indeed want to see…

This place absolutely rocks.
World class talent awaits you. Music performed by the best you will find, not just from Las Vegas, but Broadway or anywhere else. I recommend the Bill Fayne and Friends shows. Bill Fayne is one of the best musical directors in the world and has a resume of Broadway, international and Las Vegas shows that is the envy of the industry. I challenge you to find a more accomplished musical director anywhere. He marshals incredible talent for these shows you must hear to believe along with new upcoming stars.
Also playing now in residency is Micheal Grimm, winner of America’s Got Talent who beat Jackie Evancho for the title!
Yes it is right on Las Vegas Blvd about a mile north of the Stratosphere. It is tucked away on the side of the Viva Las Vegas Wedding chapel between Sahara and Charleston. Easy breeze y to find and park.
Inside you will find a hidden treasure. It is a bit of retro-​Vegas showroom but everything has been remodeled, is brand new and sparkling. You are greeted with elegance by people in Tuxedos. Not to worry, the vibe is very friendly (no attitude here) and relaxed.
The show prices, a bargain by any standard, start around $ 15. Food and drink are also well done and well priced.

Live band playing some classy/​jazzy Christmas tunes?! Why yes I shall have some of that! Ron Decar is a long time Vegas singer who purchased an old warehouse and turned it into this gem. He is trying to bring back the big band productions that Vegas used to be famous for, and I’d say he’s doing a great job. They always have something going down on the weekends, as well as a buffet. I would say that going to see the big band Christmas show will become a tradition for me.

They have done an excellent job of restoring and refinishing an old building. The feel is real vintage Las Vegas. The entertainers are top notch. Everyone in the place goes the extra mile to make their guest feel welcome. And they succeed! If I were to pick one of the great people to praise the most it would be Vanessa, manager and chef. She is awesome!
Unfortunately, can’t comment on the food. They kinda forgot about vegetarians when they made up the menu. Maybe a future change? Ya listening Vanessa?

This was my first time at this event center and I was excited to see the Joni & Gina Wedding Show. It doesn’t look like it, but there is ample parking in the back.
When we arrived they looked at our tickets and escorted us to the «The Robin Roberts» table. Each table was organized by famous lesbians. I had never heard of Robin Roberts and the table next to us was Maria Bello (had no idea she was a lesbian) it was a cute idea.
We went to the bar to grab a drink, and it was a little slow going and unorganized, but once we had our drinks we felt better. Show ‘guests’ such as the family of the brides were mingling around and socializing in character. It was very funny. Right away I loved the wedding planner/​event coordinator & the both mothers of the bride.
Soon after everyone walks outside & around the corner for the actual ceremony. We were escorted by Joni’s family and they were great. They play the roles so effortlessly. There’s has to be a fair amount of improv, because who knows what the non performers will say. I really like that aspect of the show.
The ceremony is hilarious. I just love the actress that plays the master of ceremonies. She was excellent in SST’s Arcenic and Old Lace. This is also where we finally meet the brides. I just adore Joni. She is great! Her personality really shines through. Excellent acting.
After the ceremony they walk you back to the reception hall, we were lead by Gina’s awkward and kind of inappropriate brother. The best thing about this is you get to deal with all the annoying people at a wedding, but without any of the personal attachment or embarrassment. Funny!
Once back at the reception, there’s a small buffet including salad, vegetable lasagna, Mac and cheese and sliced beef. I don’t think anyone is going for the food, but it was definitely Ok. There’s also a champagne toast and wedding cake. I thought the cake was pretty good, but I so rarely eat cake… It was definitely a treat. There is also a very nice cocktail waitress that will bring out more drinks. Very organized and she split up our drinks without us asking, so it was very easy to pay at the end. I liked the Alamos Malbec, but it was the only one I tried. My girlfriend really seemed to like the house specialty (vodka, peach schnapps and various other juice)
Then the fun really starts… They encourage everyone to start dancing and even form a huge conga line. They really try to include everyone and get you dancing. This is definitely a show that you can have a lot of fun.
I felt like all the actors did a great job staying in character and really bringing it. Kudos to everyone at my table for having fun & making the night that much better! The show is about three hours if you arrive on time and totally worth the price.

Loved this intimate venue. Bringing it back to ” old Vegas ” the host (ron) was great… he’s done a fantastic job with the new center and deserves to have his name in lights, which is happening soon :)
I came for the Michael Grimm show which was nothing short of amazing. He’s so great live. This venue allows you to be up close with the performers and allowes you to interact during the show. They have any different events during the week… I wish I lived in Vegas so I could attend them all! I did not eat which at the show, but the group next to us did, and they said the food was fantastic.
This is a hidden gem and you should definitely check it out!

Well, last night was my first visit. I begin by saying that I dressed up in evening/​cocktail dress because one other review said it was the place to do that. Well, last night it wasn’t. We were the only people there dressed nicely. Everyone one else wore day clothes, extremely casual. WHO WEARS SNEAKERS TO A NIGHTCLUB? really! I was disappointed. So as for the show, I went there to see Michelle Johnson do her Ella tribute. Unfortunately, she wasn’t there due to a car accident. So they improvised with various singers. They were ok, but they weren’t Michelle.
I like the venue, it’s a great idea in a great location. My one comment are the table cloths are very weird. They have a thick embroidery that makes your drinks unstable. The large tables have six legs which makes sitting without hitting one of them difficult and the chairs are covered and wrapped at the bottom so tight you have to keep your feet forward to be comfortable. So in other words, the décor is strange. I’m old enough to remember the 70’s and this is not from that time. The stage however is, it’s very nice and reminiscent of days gone by. The sounds was excellent and the food was good. Not sure how they can get away with letting children in a place that serves alcohol, but they do. Parents, It’s not a place for kids.
All in all it was a nice evening out. I will try it again one day.

I came here last night for the first of their Carnegie series to benefit Golden Rainbow of Southern Nevada. The series of three shows is recreating historic Carnegie Hall concerts. Last night was a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald by doing many of the numbers she sang at the July 5, 1973 Newport Jazz Festival at Carnegie Hall concert.
The place is really well done and a big addition to the live entertainment scene fairly close to the Arts District. The owner, Ron Decar, owns the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel next door and he bought and renovated this property to turn it into a banquet hall for weddings in his chapel or elsewhere and it’s become an entertainment venue. It’s a job well done. The chairs are your standard banquet type – maybe not the most comfortable, but they’re designed for a reception not necessarily for concerts.
One corner of the room has been made into the stage area. There’s great lighting for doing various effects, and the sound system in the room was first class. It really is a perfect venue for this kind of concert.
Parking was easy in the lot. It wasn’t large enough for the full house that was there last night, but there was street parking. The staff was excellent. Drink prices are very reasonable.
I’ll be heading back in October for the next in the series and I’ll have dinner there. The two ladies I sat with last night gave two thumbs up for the food.

Time Machine found!
I had no idea what to expect. Located behind the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel (… I Know right?! I didn’t know anything was there either) What a lovely place. Greeted at the door by the owner (wearing a tux) leads you to either your table in the dining room (all with great views of the stage) or a bar that seems to have been ripped from a five star hotel on the 40’s. Not that I’m anywhere near old enough to really know anything about that.
Now Im a guy who likes to dress up to go out… wearing a jacket and usually looking overdressed. Well… dress up… this is the place where that works. I’m sure that has to do with the clientele… it’s local Las Vegas of, shall I say, a certain age. Well who cares… the venue designs its entertainment offerings as well as the menu… that’s right… menu… Its a full restaurant and bar with good service while you enjoy the show.
Listen… this place is just something that, at my age, I hoped still existed in a city like Las Vegas. Actually, correct me if I’m wrong Unilocalers, but I don’t think any place here has a product like this one. I mean they still do a true big band night and move out some of the tables to make room for a dance floor… that actually gets used.
Another thing… get there early and buy tickets for the shows you want to see… because on the two occasions I was there… it was standing room only. The place feels like it holds about 250 people… Every seat taken. Well Done Guys Well Done.
Please know that I did not try the food… I was the guy at the bar trying my best to look like Dean Martin with a drink in my hand… I know I know… a little pathetic
Next time I go I’ll review the food.

Live Music is phenomenal, ask for a purple Martini, yummy! You need to come on down. Gonna have some Southern peach cobbler w/​ice cream later. SSooooo glad I’m here. Hope you can get here… you won’t be disappointed. I WILL Be Back!

Owner Ron Decar has brought live entertainment back to Las Vegas at Viva Las Vegas Event Center. My favorite show is «Swinging Sundays» featuring a professional open mic. The band shines with pianist Jeanne Bullet, a talented and beautiful musician, singer, and even dances on occasion. Last Sundays show included Queen Aires and Phil Flowers. The first Friday of every month features a great Big Band Orchestra. Arrive an hour early and you receive free ballroom dance lessons from a professional instructor. Dancing is encouraged at this and every event. Other nights include Pam E. Williams, Central Avenue, Toscha Comeaux, Bill Fayne, and many others. The prices are low, excellent food, great service (you will feel a member of the family), excellent venue and great performers.
Note — I am not an employee of Viva Las Vegas Event Center nor a close friend of anyone associated with this venue. I first came to Las Vegas in the early 1960’s and really enjoyed the live music featured at almost every major casino. Lounge acts abounded provided great entertainment for little more than the cost of a drink. The major shows featured top performers and amazing bands. Yes there is a smattering of live music in other areas of Las Vegas but for the most part show music is recorded. Today you can drive many mile and catch an occasional live show but at Viva Las Vegas Event Center you can catch a premium show multiple times every week.

Went here 4÷11÷14 for a jazz show. Great location/​nice showroom/​plenty of parking/​great crowd/​good service and wow what a good show. Drinks were reasonable and we’ll poured. We will definitely be back.
