why has it taken me so long to write this review?! oye! i wanna say this was my first uye ever… and what a great one it was! met the most elite of all elites and, yes, they love food as much as i do! fan-freakin-tastic!!! had the pleasure of sitting smack dab in the middle of david, yuhi, lisa and jieun… see, the most elite of all elite sandwiches! i soon learned the art of ayce sushi thanks to all these amazing folks. plate after plate after plate after plate after plate… even after my tummy started screaming for mercy. every single piece of sushi completely devoured. by the end of the meal, i was uncomfortably full of sushi but delightfully filled with great company and conversation. our server was a saint, as far as i’m concerned. for he was able to satisfy all of these food savages with his amazing ability to bring our massive orders in a timely fashion without a single mistake, he deserves the server of the millennium award! thanks to this super fun and super delicious uye, i now know of this place they call goyemon and have since become a regular… thank you stamp card! and thank you tony for setting this up!!! looking forward to the next mission…

After attending CMYE;Kabuki Rehearsal Dinner @Tivoli Village, Tony T came up to me & informed that he was going to create an UYE @Goyemon for AYCE on Friday evening. I was so excited for the event because I had a great time with his co workers and others previously. I remember that both of the service and the food were excellent that we left the restaurant with a big smile on our faces: D This time, I decided to bring my friend, Jennel, who is always busy working and raising two children that I hardley get to see her. Whenever we go out for lunch, we love to eat sushi together. Also, Sunny & Sunny(I’m always thankful to both ladies) tagged along with me for the night out. They are my long time hair dresser and an aestheticiant ;-) Oh, and my fellow people on Unilocal– Holly C, Amanda M, Yuhi K, Debbie, Christina W and her nice husband., I was so happy to have a dinner with them. And, of course my Unilocal family members including Lisa & Eric, Nelson & Sylvia, Paolo, David, & Tony… I am so glad that we all enjoy having a great conversation at the table :) Right after we all sit down, we began to order. Most of the sushi were served so quick! Ahhh, I had the perfect salmon roe(ikura sushi) of the night. It didn’t have a strong flavor of sake or fishy taste at all. The texture of ikura was so smooth. The mackerel was also delicious and enjoyed eating with lots of grated ginger, yum! Me and my friends, we all shared a futomaki roll & finished my dinner with a green tea cream bruelee. It was amazing! Oh, & thanks to Christina, David, and Yuhi for clearing out our empty plates. We felt like we had the VIP seats ever :) Once again, I want to say a big thanks to Tony T for organizing the event for everybody. P. S. Tony T — Because I was too busy eating all the great sushi, I probably couldn’t keep an eye on Anthony and catch him if he starts to tip forward at the table: P

I am going to be the first to complain about this event. How come I was one of two to call dibs on sitting next to Nelson Q. and Sylvia Q. yet I was not given my rightful seat? I will overlook it since I sat at a table filled with many of my other favorite people and a few new faces. Lisa R. has already mentioned all of our dining companions from the right side of the room, but they were all a blast to hang out with. Every night I swear I am going to start a diet soon. Too bad, for me, Unilocalers keep putting together gluttonfest. I ate more than I should have, but Goyemon brings out the ravenous beast in me. Yuhi was my tag team partner for the night. We attacked our final items like champs. Although we admitted defeat and sent some salmon belly over to the Goyemonstah himself, we need not bow our heads in shame. JiEun and her beautiful posse got the ball rolling with a list of nigiri they wanted. Yu-ki took this as a template for the rest of the table. As he rattled off fish names, we all raised our hands in accordance to what we wanted. It looked more like an elementary school at our table. Everything we ordered was amazing though. The best were the ika shiso, hirame, conch, jalapeño masago, uni, and amaebi. I loved everything placed in front of me, but these were the stand outs. If I didn’t order it at the end, I would have devoured three orders of jalapeño masago without issues. My sushi buddy, Lisa R., seemed to share the same sentiment. Now it is safe to say we have two places we can go to meet our raw fish needs. The best part about a Unilocal event is the shameless straggling done afterwards. Six of us stayed behind when everyone else left and just hung out outside. The weather was beautiful and beat the cold room we were in. In that hour and a half, we came up with the Sangria Throwdown event. Great things come into fruition when great minds get together. My stomach is churning in agony and anticipation for the Steppin’ Out Series next week. My bad, big thanks go out to Tony T. and all the fantastic people there.

YUHIWASAWESOME! Shoot… Yuki. I meant Yuki. 1 man vs. 20 Unilocalers. It can’t be easy dealing with a room full of hungry foodies but server Yuki held it down calm, cool, and collected. The service this time around was the best I’ve ever had here. Sushi Mission was an epic win. Thanks to Tony for setting this up! I waited all day for this so there was a constant flow of food table-to-mouth. These guys really know how to put it away! So much food came through here I somewhat lost track of what I ate. But I certainly didn’t forget that Conch Nigiri. I think we can all agree how much we were loving on the conch. And I rarely eat rolls but David S. introduced me to the lemon roll! Good stuff! Usually, I’m the odd one out eating uni. But almost everyone here took advantage of those one-per-person orders! What a way to make a sushi enthusiast feel at home… You guys are awesome and I had a great time! There’s nothing like sharing some deep fried shrimp heads with new friends. Looking forward to the next one!

Awesome time, great folks! Great sushi! I benefited from Nelson’s awesome ordering skills. Got to meet some new folks and catch up with some old favorites. And got two free beers(was it buy one, get two free night?). What’s not to love? Thanks Tony for setting this up so far in advance and setting up the next one as well. Looking forward to June!

Hopefully my table of food loving friends don’t think I am unethical for my conundrum of continuing to eat my meal here while my friend landed early from Memphis and hung out at McCarran waiting for Eric R & I to finish dinner. In the end, she was totally cool with it and understood the power of sushi and friends :) I have to say Tony T. did a great job gathering hungry eaters to this beautiful and cold room, which had us snuggling and drinking lots of hot tea. It was great to see everyone and I enjoyed my table because I got to meet a lot of new people. At the table besides my hubby included one of my fave sushi eating buddies David S., my new sushi buddy Yuhi that I had met at the Kabuki CMYE just days before, couple Christina and Arvind(I hope I spelled that right!), the beautiful Jieun and her friends Sunny 1, Sunny 2, and Jennel. We had the best waiter ever. Yu-Ki was so awesome that I wanted to give him a hug before I left. He was so nice and patient and made sure we were fed in waves. I was so impressed. Our table was deliciously gluttonous and I probably will not recall everything that I tried, but it included the special conch with yuzu drizzle that sold out(abalone esque), ika with shiso leaf, salmon belly, hamachi, one of David S.’ masago jalepeno he generously shared, uni and uni with quail egg yolk, mackerel(very nicely cured!), whole scallop sushi(not nearly as wildly huge as Kabuki but had the yuzu), lemon roll, salmon skin handroll, crispy rice with spicy tuna, amaebi and fried heads… ummm probably more than that. Other things were ordered that I did not try(kanpachi, hirame, ikura, surf clam, sashimi salad…) and Eric got a few half rolls to try. The quality was amazing and the sheer quantity was impressive. Eric R. saw at least 6 chefs cranking out rolls. We imagine that it would be hard given how busy and popular this place is to actually sit at the bar and chat with chefs, which is what we are used to but for taste, options, great service — there are only accolades deserved here. We even had to bolt(not technically early — we were still late for my friend’s original landing time even) but Yu-Ki got us our bill early and gave us a stamp card. I felt like I was in a coma such that when I laid down to sleep it was hard to lay down! Wow, that was a lot of great food! Thanks to Tony T., Nelson Q. and Sylvia Q. for being hosts(unofficial or not) and now I need to Zumba with Sylvia!

What do you get when you put 20HUNGRY people in the tatami room at Goyemon??? A FREAKIN’ GREATTIME!!! What was scheduled as a gathering of co-workers quickly changed into a pop-up UYE which filled up in no time thanks to Tony T. It was a mix of Unilocalers and co-workers who took part as a possible last outing. Some were repeat diners, and some were first timers. Blue Fin regulars Lisa and Eric R. even joined in for this Goyemon grubfest! Server Yuki took charge and took care of us like a pro, splitting checks, taking drink orders, and never missing a step. The wait period in between orders wasn’t a drag because we were busy conversating with one another. I got the table started with first ordering the specials(Conch, Amberjack, Masago Jalapeño, Cajun Tuna, and Salmon Belly) Side Orders(Spicy Tuna Rice Cracker, Fried Shrimp Heads, Seafood Salad, and of course, The famous Pork Belly, AKA Crack Bacon.) Assorted nigiri followed for round 2– Uni, Amaebi, Super White Tuna, Hamachi Jalapeño, Fresh Scallop, and Hand Rolls. Also Keep in mind that between each round, orders of Crack Bacon were also being ordered. By nights end, our side of the table consumed about 15 orders! Sushi rolls and repeat orders followed, and by the time everyone was on dessert-(Vanilla Panna Cotta, Chocolate Mousse, Black Sesame Crème Brulee, Mochi Ice Cream, Lychee Sherbet) I was still attacking sushi, which is almost always the case, even assisting the other table a bit too! Big Thanks to Team Goyemon for yet another stellar evening, and we will definitely be back! Overall, a great gathering, and mission accomplished… another mission is scheduled for the beginning of June, and after speaking with Chef Hiro on future UYE’s, I am thrilled to inform you that the«STEPPIN’ OUT”-SUSHI, SAPPORO, SAKE, ANDSHOCHU series will continue(THANKYOUCHEFHIRO!!!) and is back in rotation at Goyemon! Stay tuned for details… ALOHA!!! Unilocal365CHALLENGE-(209/365) «Goyemon Grubfest»
