History

Established in 2015.

Bien Nguyen (pronounced «B.N. Win») is the co-owner and founder of Higher Grounds Coffee House and Bakery. Higher Grounds (fondly called HG) was created because Bien felt called to create a special place — one that would combine her love for spending time with family, listening to and creating music, and creating community all in one place. She wanted to see events like family fun nights– acoustic music sessions where songwriters could tell the stories behind their songs– and bringing the community together with different activities in positive ways. HG’s mission is to inspire people and create community one cup of coffee at a time! They hope every person feels more positive about their day as a result of being served through HG!

Meet the Business Owner

Bien B.

Business Owner

My name is Bien Nguyen (pronounced «B.N. Win»), and I fell in love with coffee in middle school when my father gave me the task of making his Vietnamese iced coffee. My passion for coffee continued into college at the University of Michigan where my aunt Thanh bought me my first mocha at one of the local coffeehouses on campus. Cafes became my hang out for studying, long conversations with friends, and relaxing after finals. It was only natural that I would dream about opening one of my own someday. I love caramel and you will find that I find ways of including that in my specialty coffee drinks (like the Caramel Truffle Mocha and the HG Latte) to the Pineapple Peach Cobbler. I left the corporate and ministry world to do ministry differently. I love how I now get to meet new people and bring positive moments into their day. I pray that everyone enters HG feeling loved and served well!
