The largest collection of nutcrackers in the world can be seen in the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum, which shows over 6,000 items dating back to Roman times. Visitors are amazed at man’s ingenuity in creating a device to open the hard shell of a nut.

In addition to the antiques, there are hundreds of the wooden toy soldier type of nutcracker we see so often at Christmas time. In addition to many Santas, there are characters from «Christmas Carol», «Camelot», «Wizard of Oz», «Star Wars» and even «Sesame Street».

The museum is open each day May thru October from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. but only open Saturday and Sunday November thru April, except by appointment. The museum is on the second level, but there is a lift for handicapped visitors.

Admission for adults is $ 2.50, students $ 1.00, younger are free. Active servicemen and their families are admitted free of charged. Special tours of 10 or more can be scheduled.
