The Urgency Room

New doctors here now, but the same friendly staff at the front desk. In and out in 30 minutes with a plan in place. Wish it was this easy to see my primary care provider! About the same out of pocket cost. Thanks for the quick treatment!

I used their online check– in system before hand to avoid waiting in long lines, but the clinic was not busy at all. Check– in was a breeze and the staff was welcoming. Thank you Sandra, Karen, and Dawn for the quick and pleasant experience.

I first came in at 9am. Two hours later I still hadn’t been seen. I had to leave to make my son’s basketball game.
Came back, after checking in online, and I’m still waiting. The online appointment said I would be seen at 2:17. It’s now 2:45 and I’m still «15 minutes» away from being seen.
I’ve had good service in the past, but today is horrible. You can’t trust the online check-​in.
My advice, don’t just walk-​in and don’t plan on being seen quickly, as they advertise, if there are more than two people ahead of you.

I had a great experience here. The staff was all polite, considerate and helpful. They listened to my concerns about my history and current condition and addressed them all thoroughly (which is often a problem for many doctors — they seem to think what you have to say is irrelevant, but I did not experience that here). Most importantly, the treatment was correct as I am getting better! I will definitely be coming back here (well, I hope not, but if I need a doctor, I will!). Also, I was lucky as far as the wait time — it was practically nonexistent, and the place was clean and well organized.

I just had an over-​the-​top awesome experience at the Leawood location. The staff was delightful and professional — and, made me feel at ease. Thank you Sandra, TriVah and Dawn!

The Urgency Room is excellent in providing prompt, efficient, and most importantly, friendly professional care. The admittance procedure is fast and friendly. The staff I saw from the reception desk (Sandra), and other staff including Jeff and Dawn was outstanding. The Urgency room is a fully-​equipped medical facility which can perform the same or better care as any medical emergency facility I have utilized in my past experience.

Care I received from the doctor was okay, just your average run of the mill urgent care. The front desk and billing was ridiculous. I had reached my out of pocket maximum, the front desk agent had no clue what this meant and still insisted I pay a copay — I needed to see someone so I paid figuring when they submitted to insurance I would get a refund. This was August. It took them until late October to submit the claim to insurance. It is now January and I still have not received a refund. I will never return again.

I went to the Emergent Care Center this morning for an infected finger. I chose Emergent Care because it was recommended to me a year ago when I had a case of poison ivy. I was very pleased with health practitioner and the care I received at that time. My experience today not satisfactory at any level.
First – I had an extremely long wait although there was only one person ahead of me. The receptionist seemed visibly shaken when I told her I do not have health insurance – I was aware of the cost before I came. When I was finally ushered in, the nurse was pleasant, but, although I suffer from high blood pressure, it was not taken although she did take my temperature. In taking the very minimal health history that was take – less than I have ever had taken anywhere in my life – the nurse, after I informed her I had suffered from a past traumatic brain injury, asked me if I had brain surgery?! Nobody has ever asked that and I had already given her a list of past surgeries. I was asked what medications I was allergic to, but not what meds I am currently taking.
When the doctor finally arrived, he did not put on gloves, although I told him I had MRSA in the past. He «looked» at my finger, but never touched it – I would not either without gloves! He did not check to see how hot it was or any other check. It was oozing and very inflamed. He immediately told me I had a staff infection with just a glance. I asked him if I should have a culture taken to insure I don’t have MRSA. He told me no, it wasn’t necessary since I do not have health insurance. I certainly appreciate saving money, however I was prepared to pay to have a culture done. He then asked if I wanted a splint. I told him I did as I work with small children and am very active. He told me the splint there was about the same cost as at a pharmacy – $ 5, so I said fine. He came back with the the split and plunked it on my oozing finger – I had taken off the dressing for the exam. When I went to the pharmacy to fill my script, I saw splints 2 per package that had Velcro to secure them for $ 2.79. My splint fell off in the toilet the first time I used it. The doctor spent less than 10 minutes with me. The paperwork I went home with states that if there is puss or drainage, the doctor would drain it. This doctor didn’t touch it, clean it or really look at it very carefully. I did ask him if I am contagious, I explained I am a nanny and work with a toddler and an infant. He said I am not contagious and could go right back to work. My employer, a pediatrician, said I am contagious, and told me not to come back to work until Wednesday.
I had spoken to my daughter and sent her a picture of my finger before I left this morning. She too is a pediatrician. It was she who told me to be sure and have a culture done. She too feels I am contagious and felt the doctor was lazy and or not interested in helping me because I don’t have health insurance at this time. Basically, I paid a total of $ 105 for a $ 4 prescription my daughter could have called in!
I, of course, will never return to your place of business and will report your business to the Better Business Bureau. I also will tell all of my friends, neighbors and etc. It is too bad because I was extremely pleased with the care I received previously. I will investigate other Urgent Care type of centers in the area in case I am in need again.

I went with my wife in September of 2014 to get her eyes checked for a scratch she had gotten on her cornea. The place is under new ownership in 2014. I am not sure if the previous doctor owners managed the place differently, but we were quite satisfied with the quick, efficient, experienced, and knowledgeable doctors and professionals that we came into contact with.
They basically have a setup that is very much like an emergency room, except they are missing the MRI and other big hospital equipment. If you are injured or sick enough to need that kind of treatment, you would not be going to an Urgent Care facility anyway.
We were in and out in less than 30 minutes. You can’t really beat that. We didn’t spend any more time in the waiting area than it took to just fill in the paperwork.
One other note is that this place is in an up scale area, and is decorated as such. If that means something to you, then prepare to experience the arty floating waves of wooden ceiling decorations and large high ceiling waiting room.

Dr. Barr got my daughter right in with a minimal wait. His bedside manner with my 4 year old was outstanding. Totally recommend. The whole visit probably took less than 30 minutes. Thanks!

Very unimpressed! Went in with a VERY obvious case of pink eye. The «doctor» on staff declared it allergies and prescribed allergy eye drops. I explained that I’d had pink eye a few times before and had the exact same symptoms (feeling like sand in eye, yellow/​green discharge, pain, itching, red, swollen eye), but he insisted that it was just allergies. I even told him that it had spread from one eye to the other and another family member was starting to have the same problems. He left the room after saying he was 100% sure it wasn’t pink eye because of the swelling and itching. After the nurse brought in my paperwork, I asked to see the doctor one last time because I was SURE it was pinkeye and knew I would get quick relief with the proper medicine, but after waiting for long time– I finally gave up and left. I drove straight to another urgent care facility– where the staff doctor thoroughly LISTENED to me and observed my obvious symptoms and diagnosed me with pinkeye. I am now using the correct prescription eye drops and feel improvement already!
In retrospect, I think the Emergent Care Plus doctor seemed inexperienced (really didn’t behave like a doctor) and I think he wanted to «make a point» that I didn’t know what I had. Maybe he was offended that I had sort of pre-​diagnosed myself? Most doctors care about the patient’s well being more than their own egos. The Emergent Care Plus doctor was strangely condescending and I don’t really feel like he wanted to help me. I am still puzzled as to why he wouldn’t treat me properly.
I am thankful that I DID get the help I needed from another urgent care facility. I’m just sorry that I first wasted my time and money at Emergent Care Plus.
