Lansdowne Resort and Spa

The 2 stars is for the Spa facility. The resort, I would give a 3 star. The main problem was lack of maintenance and upkeep. In the Spa, the steam room, one of their showers, and sink were all out of order. The hotel room was nice enough and looked renovated at least once… but they have 3 elevators for the entire resort. You can imagine what that looks like. The grounds were very picturesque, but that’s it. I’m not sure if I would go for sue to the Spa. Treatments and facility of $ 150, was not worth it due to all the maintenance issues.

We had our baby’s first birthday celebration at the Terrace Ballroom back in early April, it was the BEST experience I’ve had working with a venue for a very important family milestone! Leslie (events director) was absolutely amazing to work with, she is the utmost professional, very prompt in response time and genuinely caring! I had originally planned to hold this party at another location, things didn’t work out due to the other coordinator cancelling our appointment the night before. I AM SO HAPPY to have decided to go with Lansdowne!!! Every single person we worked with was pleasant, happy to be there and superb in excellent customer service. The food was delicious too!!! You can 110% trust Leslie and the folks at Lansdowne to take care of you as you plan for beautiful, lifelong memories!!!

Recently stayed here for a wedding. Shortly before our visit I came to check out Unilocal reviews and was left a bit nervous wondering what to expect.
Every staff member we encountered was friendly and professional. Upon checking in we were given a glass of champagne. The hotel was quite nice, clean and modern. You could tell our room had been recently renovated. The view out of our 6^th story window was beautiful, especially during sunset.
Only complaint about the stay would be the room. The walls were so thin and offered no sound barrier whatsoever. The conversations taking place in the hall at 1am were loud enough to wake me up. I thought someone was in our room, it was that loud and clear. I wouldn’t come here if you’re looking to catch up on sleep.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

A group of couples meet every year to catch up, meet new additions to the group, and overall have a relaxing weekend. We’ve stayed at the DC Hilton, Gaylord, and a few other locations but for the last three years we’ve settled on Landsdowne. Everything about the resort fits our style and needs. From the glass of champagne when you check in to the excellent meal to the newly renovated rooms with views of the beautiful countryside, what’s to want? And the staff treats you with a genuine sincerity. I know we’ll be back next year, if not before for a round of golf for me and a spa treatment for my lovely.

Bumped off a UNITED flight. Landed here. Beautiful room. Supportive staff. Nice sleep. Goregeous property. My golf skills nor clothes availabe are not on par. Lotsa ammenities. If you are gonna get stuck… better here than other places I have been.

The place is mid-​renovation. I wouldn’t bother going until the transformation is done. Probably the least inviting «luxury resort» I’ve ever visited.
Walking around the hotel felt like walking through a combination community college and office building. Most of it looks dated and bland. The hall we stayed on didn’t have that problem, but it did smell very strongly of glue (carpet or wallpaper I’m not sure). Our room also had a strong and unpleasant odor.
I’m picky about linens, and this place failed in that department. The sheets were very uncomfortable, and the duvet was covered in a flat sheet top-​and-​bottom which ironically made it much less soft to the touch.
As for the amenities, we never got to enjoy them much. The place seems made for golfing and meetings. Since we were there for neither, we had very little to do. Spa lacks surge capacity to accommodate walk-​in guests during a busy weekend. TV offerings are so-​so. Breakfast shuts down on weekends before brunch hours, and even with three other restaurants (total of 4 on the property), none of them serve brunch foods on a Sunday after 11am. Staff tried hard, but the place gives them nothing to work with.
Unfortunately this resort isn’t close to anything, so if they don’t serve brunch in the building, you can’t get brunch without a 15+ minute drive. If you’re not a golfer or planning a conference, avoid this place. This is not a good resort for a luxurious or romantic weekend.

We were given two packages to this «Luxury Resort» for our post-​wedding stay. Upon arrival, the doormen were eager to grab the keys out of our hands and not worry about holding the doors for us. The receptionist greeted us well, but was unable to answer a couple of questions regarding the hotel. We were also informed that the hotel was under renovation — something we were not told when making the reservation. We came to find out that the hot tub was no longer working and they were not taking any more spa appointments. We were also not given any of our package entitlements at check-​in.
I had high expectations for the breakfast buffet the next morning. Turns out it’s only standard-​fare which you would find at most normal hotels’ continental breakfast section. At a «luxury resort» and at almost $ 22 a plate, you would expect something better. The glasses and silverware were very dirty, we had to ask for others multiple times. The server brought us our drinks and then ignored us for the rest of the time.
Pub46 was probably the highlight of the stay. The food actually had some taste and the servers were attentive.
The next day we left to have the room cleaned and start the other piece of the romance package. When we came back, the room was cleaned, but there was no champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, or smores. We had to ask a couple of times, then an hour or two later, the champagne arrived with basic chocolates (not the chocolate-​covered strawberries as the package stated). The champagne had little to no bubbles and was not very good. We went back down to the front desk to get our smores, the security officer turned the fire on, and we ate the smores, which were good.
The next day, we had the breakfast buffet included in our package again, but there was no buffet. The staff, during booking or checking-​in, never informed us that they would not be having a buffet. We spoke with the hostess, who said we could order anything off of the menu, since there was no buffet. The server did not understand that we wanted more than one thing off of the menu, and that it was included in our package. The server stated that we must stick to the menu exactly and he was unwilling to listen — always talking over us and not allowing any leeway due to the change.
The dinner was quite average. For a $ 100 meal at a luxury resort though, I expected much more taste and better food options. Seriously, pick any other restaurant around town and you will get much better food at a much cheaper price. You can even have it delivered to your room faster and cheaper than you can get it at the «resort.»
Very disappointing.
Since this was a package bought for us, and seeing how confused the staff was when dealing with the packages throughout our stay, upon checkout I made sure to ask that my credit card wasn’t going to be charged, since the packages were a wedding gift for us. They assured us they were charging a separate card and not to worry. As you have probably guessed by now, my credit card was the one charged and now I have to go through more paperwork to get them to reverse the charges on my card and charge the other one. I’ve now had to call multiple times to receive the correct paperwork.
The manager had replied to this review on another review website and said he had shared the issues with the appropriate staff and that they would look to improve. All of these issues and concerns were brought up by me while we were there. Nothing was done then and nothing is being done now. They made no effort to fully listen to us then and are continuing to be unhelpful now.
If you are looking for an overpriced, basic stay with disappointing food and frustrating service, you’ve found it!

I don’t know what the deal is with these reviews, I really like it here. Came for a weekend break from the big city, didn’t want to go anywhere too far where getting there would just add to the stress I was trying to get away from. It’s only an hour outside DC, and even though it is winter, it’s quite pretty. I’ve had nothing but good, attentive service since I’ve been here, and my room on the ninth floor has a nice view and is nicely furnished. I think it was recently renovated, so some of the other reviews might be outdated. It is true that there is no fridge, but that’s not a major deal as there are three restaurants in the same building. Boyfriend got the breakfast buffet and he liked it. I ordered a 3 egg omelette which was a little small, but maybe they used little eggs, or the whites of 3 eggs only (I ordered an egg white omelette). It was tasty, regardless. Ate at Stonewall as well last night and that was good. They have a firepit to make s’mores in here! At first when I read the Unilocal reviews I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go here but then I read that you can make s’mores here and that was enough to cement my decision! Also you get a bottle of champagne and the best chocolate covered strawberries I’ve yet to have when you arrive. Who can argue with that. I had a very minor issue with something, but the manager Ben and the girl at the front desk Sarah were more than accommodating and helped me out with it right away. We are here to study and there are ample fireplaces and open spaces to get work done. There is also a digital scale in the locker room, which makes me happy because not everywhere has one and a lot of times hotel scales aren’t digital. (I guess they’re not a high-​demand item.) The hot tub has color-​changing lights. Didn’t get any spa treatments or use the indoor pool yet, but the pool water was warm enough which is important to me. I also requested some obscure item and they brought it up to my room right away. Oh, went to the morning yoga class too, don’t recall the teacher’s name. It definitely added to the relaxing atmosphere. In short, this is a great place for a weekend getaway, even off-​season. The people and service is great, and it’s not too far from the city. I will definitely be coming again!

I was here for opening residency for grad school in August. The rooms are what you would expect for a convention/​conference type hotel.
The food was good although with most conference type food it gets old after 2 – 3 days. However, we did not have the luxury to go off-​site due to sessions all day and all night.
The breakout rooms are good and there is ample space to conduct business.

Beautiful resort and spa with top-​notch customer service! The resort has 3 (4?) restaurants onsite and there are tons more restaurants and shopping centers nearby. The spa was fabulous-​a little pricey but we had a Travelzoo coupon for 80-​minute massages which made it affordable. We will definitely visit again!

I love this spa, it’s a must do… Get there early so you can use their sauna/​whirlpool/​relaxation room! The massages are awesome. Only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is bc of the lack of wine selection.

Calling this place a «resort» is a stretch but our hotel room was clean, even though it could have used new carpeting and furniture. There was a nightstand missing from my side of the bed and our card keys didn’t work so we had to go downstairs for new ones. The bathroom was tiny, considering we were in one of their largest «suites». Room service was quick and tasted pretty good, although fairly pricey. A breakfast for two cost over $ 70. The view from our room was beautiful — a panoramic view of the golf course. The TVs in the bedroom and family room were very large and new so most channels were in HD which you don’t find often in hotels. Staff was friendly and helpful.

This was probably one of the worst hotel stays I have had in quite some time. The rooms are small and outdated. The food was subpar and overpriced. While the staff was helpful and friendly that couldn’t make up for uncomfortable bed, chipped bath tub, barely working temperamental tv and windows and walls that were so thin you could hear everything outside and in the hallway. For the amount of money charged for a two-​night stay this has been quite a disappointment. Next time, I will definitely choose the Marriott down the road.

This hotel is mediocre, especially as being a «resort».
SPACE: large, sprawling area, but not much to do unless you have a conference or event to go to.
DINING: The dining staff is nice enough, but the food is nothing to write home about. The omelet I had for brunch was runny and undercooked. What was absolutely shocking was the cost of room service! On top of the cost of the meal, you pay an extra $ 10 delivery charge, 24% service charge, and 6% VA tax. Considering that a bowl of cereal with fruit is $ 8, that comes to a total of $ 21.12 if you only order cereal.
ROOM: When I entered, the room was dark, even with all the lights on. The carpet is a little on the old side. Cable TV had decent selection, including HBO, which was good. One thing that was definitely not great was the toiletries that came with the room. You get a shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion, and shower cap. The brand is Gilchrist & Soames — by far the worst quality ever in a hotel I’ve seen. The lotion was watery and runny, the shampoo takes multiple pumps to utilize for lathering, and the scent for all products is unpleasant.
SPA: Extremely overpriced and underwhelming service. Most of the cost goes to maintain the grandiose space.

United flight delay, we got a voucher to stay here. My recommendation is to say no to this place. It took the shuttle over 30 min to come get us. Then another 30 min to this «resort» at midnight with no traffic! !!! If you have a early flight you gotta leave at least 1 hour for travel back to airport!!!
If you are hungry, just FYI, THIS HOTEL CHARGES 7% state tax and 24% FOR SERVICE AND A FLAT $ 10 ADDITIONAL FOR ROOM SERVICE DELIVERY! and food is bleck!

I went to Lansdowne Resort for a post wedding brunch on 9÷6÷15.
I was really looking forward to brunch and experiencing the Lansdowne Resort having heard so much about it.
The wedding brunch was fun because I was with friends and members of the groom’s family I had known for a long time.
The food at the brunch was meh. Everything was edible but for the price point I expected at least a couple of the items to be exceptional. The food was no better than what you might get a place like I-​Hop (and frankly I-​Hop offer more specialty items than the Lansdowne Resort did).
The service was also very scattered. I waited 15 minutes for a mimosa and although I appreciated when I brought it up to our server he told me he would give me extra, it didn’t make up for waiting that long for something that just needs to be poured.
In a nutshell, had a great brunch because of the company, had I been without them the whole experience would have been a bust.

A little better from my previous stay from 3 years ago. They’ve updated the rooms somewhat, but I feel like they’ve only gone halfway. For example, the flooring in the bathrooms are slate, the shower looks recently tiled… but the carpet is burnt orange and looks worn, the door knobs on the bathroom are that 80’s brass gold, the paint at the top near the ceilings is a faded yellow and all the faceplates are still almond color. I feel like if you are marketing as a luxury resort, take the time to update fully. Simple white faceplates and paint will do wonders.
I also wasn’t a fan that the bed didn’t have a sheet in between the comforter cover. So it was the flat sheet on the mattress, then another sheet which also served as the barrier between the comforter. Then on top of that was a gold/​orange blanket. People expect all white now, which was my previous complaint from 3 years ago. White shows dirt. People want to know if their bed is clean.
The staff here is great. I got a complimentary glass of champagne when checking in which was very much appreciated! I had dinner one night at Stonewalls and the crab cakes were good. However, another pet peeve showing this place’s age is that the bar is not wheelchair accessible. The restaurant is, the bar is not. Pretty standard these days to have a bar everyone can get up to unless you’re in a super old building like in Old Town Alexandria. Considering how many weddings and conferences happen here you would think they’d do a better job.
Also, I learned from last time and realized the walls are SUPER thin. If you have inconsiderate neighbors partying the night away after a wedding it can be extremely disturbing. This time I asked for a room in the back away from any wedding blocks. It worked out and I didn’t hear a peep from any neighbors.
Anyway, this place is «ok», the rooms are «ok» and continue to need updating. For a good deal I suppose its worth it, but don’t expect a «luxury» resort.
The Spa however, is fantastic I’ve been many times and I would highly recommend it!

This my second stop at Lansdowne this year… both for business. I’m not sure if I rated after my first visit but I thought I’d do one now.
Although the hotel is due for a fresh coat of paint and carpet, I don’t have much issue with the well worn look. Everything ages and management is on top of that.
My issues are 3:
1. Fruit flies occupied our meeting room (Faulkner) all 4 days that we were there but even with my complaints, they never resolved the problem.
2. Two attendees had special dietary needs and the hotel was very helpful with last minute arrangements with local Kosher caterers. Unfortunately, no one contacted me when the food was delivered and it was only when I reached out for an update that I learned that the food was delivered. I felt bad for our students, who missed out on one of their meals because of this level of customer service.
3. Wifi cut out 4 times on our last day, right in the middle of a presentation that required Internet access. I learned that their IT department was upgrading a part of the network that caused these intermittent outages. WHAT?! Wouldn’t you want to schedule these upgrades at night when clients aren’t using the system? At the minimum, wouldn’t you want to tell your client about the potential for service interruptions?
For me, these are issues that give me pause before booking another event at this venue.

I made reservations a few months in advance for my entire bridal party to spend the night with me, they booked us in a 2 bedroom suite. A couple weeks before the wedding I decided me plus 7 girls the night of the wedding would be overwhelming and they changed my reservation to a standard room with balcony. So I’m expecting exactly that– to my shock we were placed on the top floor and the room was STUNNING. I think they might have kept one of the suites? I’m not entirely sure, but that couldn’t have been a standard room! It was breathtaking. I arrived with my maid of honor and 2 bridesmaids that were hanging out a bit before bed and we all screamed when we walked in! The views from the balcony were just too beautiful to describe. We overlooked the golf course and could see the rolling hills and mountains in the distance just before the sun went down, honestly it made waking up on the morning of my wedding 100x better! We opened the curtains to a gorgeous view and it was the exact thing I needed to start feeling everything. The bathrooms were equally stunning, and gave me ideas on renovating my master bathroom at home!
The only thing I have to comment on about the room itself (not necessarily a complaint) was that it was super, super dark when we turned all the lights on, even with the sun still out. The lamp shades are a very deep red and therefore was not a lot of light… so we took the shades off and it was much better. I’m not sure if they do that on purpose but that was the only slightly-​less-​than-​perfect thing going on.
We ordered breakfast for room service, honestly the food was extremely bland. Not enough for me to knock down a star, cuz by all means we wouldn’t have ordered breakfast to begin with, I just wanted to do something nice for my maid of honor… but don’t expect 5 star gourmet. We had a breakfast platter that was very expensive and had a variety of food to nibble on while we got ready for the day, but it was pretty unsatisfying and not worth the money. Just a note for anyone in a similar situation! We checked this place out for our wedding venue a year prior and ate lunch at the buffet, didn’t like anything we tried so I don’t think their food is a major selling point here. But please don’t let those comments prevent you from staying! The surrounding area has a plethora of places to go eat, sometimes the room itself is worth the visit!
Next time I need a reason to get a hotel in my area I’m definitely coming back!

We made an impromptu stop for one night at Lansdowne after our local accommodations shifted by a day. Alex in reservations recognized our names as prior guests and was extremely accommodating, finding us ape effect suite for our family of six — and at the last minute! Well done.
Service was terrific. Chris was our bellman and was very friendly and patient with our large family. At the pool, service was exemplary: shoutouts to Marie and Caris for being very attentive.
After a week on the road, an overnight at Lansdowne and some pool time was just what these parents needed.

I don’t understand what’s up with the terrible reviews. I love this resort! It’s so spacious and really pretty inside, with multiple rooms and areas available for conferences, weddings, parties, and the like. The views are absolutely gorgeous, and there are so many nice photo opportunities, both inside and outside.
Outside there are tennis courts, a golf course, and trails. Whenever I’ve been here, I feel like I am really away from the city. It’s a long drive, but it’s a very pretty one.
I can’t say I’m familiar with pricing, but from a wedding guest and otherwise visitor’s perspective, I have really enjoyed my experiences here and definitely recommend at least checking it out as a potential venue for just about anything.

Beautiful resort with a very nice staff. Several bars and restaurants on site… But the nearest outside shopping/​eating area is 1.5 miles away. The restaurants on site are pretty pricy but delicious. Breakfast buffet is pretty impressive. They began construction at 7:30am which was a huge issue for a lot of people.

I stayed at the Landsdown Resort for a two day conference. I was pretty impressed with the service and how friendly the staff was. Everyone greated you and met you with a smile no matter what part of the resort you were in.
The rooms were really nice, too. I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to hotels and I must say, my room didn’t have a weird stench (like most places, like, you could smell the person who previously occupied the room), my sheets and pillows smelled fresh, and my room was very clean.
They also served food as a part of the conference and I have no complaints there either. Delicious options were available for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert.

My wife and I wanted to get away for our anninersary, however we didn’t want to go to far, or use up much of our vacation time. Since we plan to go on a few more throughout the rest of the year, we chose Landsdowne Resort as the place for our get away. We booked our getaway with the, «For The Love of Spa» package. This package gave us:
1.) Chocolate & Chocolate covered starwberries with Champagne
2.) Free all you can eat regular breakfast or continental breakfast at the Riverside Hearth for each day checked into the resort.
3.) $ 200 towards any spa treatment
4.) $ 100 credit at the Stonewall Tavern and two free drinks
My wife and I enjoyed ourselves at Landowne. We especially enjoyed our meals at the Stonewall Tavern. Not only was the food tasty but it was also very fulfilling. As for the all you can eat regular and continental breakfast it was okay. I mean I felt like their continental section was lacking and the regualr breakfast was just okay but we sill enjoyed ourselves (can’t be too disappointed when you can eat all you want lol).
Even though we enjoyed ourselves there were still some things that occured which caused me to bump the rating down.
First off, we didn’t receive the champagne and chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate when we were told. Secondly, it seemed to take house keeping forever to clean our room. We left the room 9:00am and didn’t get back until after 4pm amd the room still wasn’t cleaned.
Last, we were told we would have a glass of wine/​champagne after our massages but ended up with two plastic cups of water.
Although things didn’t go exactly how we expected we still had a great time and enjoyed ourselves and will most definitely be back.

I’m babysitting here for a family while they attend a wedding. It is to my understanding that there isn’t too many kid friendly opportunities at Lansdowne Resort. They have a pool with a slide we indulged in, but not much beyond that.
The grounds are beautiful with a golf range, golf course, and walk down a nature trail down to the Potomac River. The club house is great for weddings. It also houses the Pub 64 and the other on-​site restaurant is Stonewall Tavern. If you go to Stonewall, they have a 25% off Unilocal check in for an appetizer.
I wasn’t too sold on our room. The room is outdated and a bit dingy for the price paid to stay here. Thank goodness I’m not paying, and I’m the hired help.
It is 45 minutes to an hour from Washington D.C. with steady traffic. This would be a good get away from the kids rather the kids being in tow.

Please do not spend your hard earned money on a disaster such as this «luxury resort.»
My sweetie surprised me with a mini staycation for my birthday yesterday, by booking us a package for a one night stay at Landsdowne. Upon check-​in truffles, cupcakes and champagne were to be delivered. We did not receive the champagne and had to call twice (!) until it was delivered at SEVEN PM. Check in was at 4, and we were a half hour early.
I headed to my 3:45 mani/​pedi appointment because he had ordered the «spa lover’s» package. An hour mani/​pedi was not my idea of being pampered. They had scheduled me for a SIMPLE mani/​pedi instead of the longer, more expensive signature one. We therefore lost $ 100 in our spa services voucher because they could only fit me in the next day for a mini facial or head/​neck massage to make up for their mistake.
The worst was the restaurant, however, where we went for drinks and dinner at 8ish because we had to wait on our champagne for so long. I can’t recall the name but it was directly off the lobby, had billiards and «tavern» in the name. The server was RUDE, ignored us while serving other tables next to us, then when we were fed up with waiting and went to the bar, elbowed my boyfriend as he grabbed our drinks therefore causing him to spill half a beer down my back! All without an apology. In fact, he did this then promptly seated a bar regular (he knew him by name) next to me. I was so angry we left our full drinks to go upstairs and have dinner in the room!!! A complaint to the manager resulted in a comped bill, but when you have a voucher for drinks that went unused, then they still made their money off of us…
I was more than eager to leave after every single part of our stay, someone had dropped the ball, that we skipped the breakfast included with our package, and I refused to be «squeezed in» for a mini service when their mistake should make me the priority. We checked out early the next day. Instead of comping anything, they applied our unused voucher funds to the dining charge on our bill and removed the resort fee and taxes ($ 87 for dinner and $ 30 for the latter charge) but didn’t apply the unused funds from the spa voucher. Thank you Landsdowne for doing the favor of removing THIRTY DOLLARS off a $ 600 stay for my birthday.
Aside from the service, the manicurist (Janela) was incredibly personable and did an excellent job.
P. S. I should mention there was a woman outside who was absolutely wasted, pretty much taking a nap on the pavement in front of the bench. Apparently she was served too much alcohol in the bar. Shouldn’t responsible bartenders be monitoring alcohol consumption and cutting people off? She could not even stand, so the taxi would not take her home. Is this the kind of reputation you’d like for your establishment, Landsdowne owners and managers?
