MC Fence and Deck

MC FENCE did an amazing job in our house. They created the prefect fence to give our dog a run paradise!!! They are extremely professional and I will recommend them 100%

Zero stars. I was so excited to find a good rated company in northern virginia for fencing but I can tell you that my opinion of mcfence has gone completely downhill. I requested a free quote on their website and never heard back so I reached out to the company myself 2 days later. I spoke with Amy and she confirmed that someone would be at my property at noon on thursday. I had emailed her my address and plat and told me to contact me if anything further was necessary. I called today (the day of my appointment) to follow up and spoke with someone named Barb (i am sure she said Barb) who told me that they had NO record of me in their system. She also advised me that Amy is not the person that makes the appointments, my email should have been forwarded to a casey but it never was. I don’t understand why Amy gave me a specific time and date but yet I was not entered into their system. I am glad that their business is doing SO well that they don’t need mine but I would NEVER recommend this company to another person if they don’t value their customers. I didn’t even receive an apology. This is very unprofessional and I am infuriated. I would rather go fenceless than ever hire mcfence.

MC Fence did an amazing job under a tight dead line. I will use them on any future projects. I was very impressed with both the quality and the professionalism.

I can’t say enough good about mc fence. From the 15 estimates that I requested as I changed my mind, they were completely professional. The end result is a vinyl privacy fence that is perfectly aligned, despite the uneven terrain of my yard, and my dogs can’t escape. I am soooo pleased and would definitely recommend them. Maybe not the least expensive but the perfect result makes it the the best choice for me.

I have been REALLY happy with my new fence. Their estimate was slightly lower than the alternative, and I liked the owner (Mike). Workers were on time. They hit a pipe on my sprinkler system, but repaired it immediately and kept me apprised of the issue (I was a work). They even sent a picture. I appreciated the honesty — I probably wouldn’t have known if they hadn’t said anything. Fence looks great.

Mike and the entire MC Fence team were great. They worked with me and came on the day I needed to do the install and I couldn’t be happier with the fence and I know both my dogs love it!

One day, my neighbor’s daughter taught my dog that she could jump REALLY high, and so… she did, right over the fence. As much as I really didn’t want to pull out my perfectly good post and rail fence and replace it with a privacy fence, and couldn’t really afford to, I really didn’t have any choice either. ugh.
Because of expense involved, I got a number (6!) estimates. KC with MC Fence came out the very next day, and provided a very comprehensive and fair estimate. He was nothing but professional and personable, even when strongly advising against my plan to go around a tree. (He was right, the tree had to go.) While the total cost wasn’t the lowest, he wasn’t anywhere near the highest either. More importantly, he was willing and able to work the installation schedule to get my fence in fast, while working around the weather, the tree removal guys, and my work schedule. With my little jailbird on house arrest until the fence was in, this was critical to me — hell hath no fury like a hyper dog contained. He also got me in contact with Melissa, and she was able to get me a great deal on financing.
Installation day comes, and everyone is there bright and early, including KC. He introduced me to the crew leader, and went over a few details that I had questions on. The crew took out the old fence, and built me a beautiful new fence (over uneven, sloped terrain) in record time. Aside from the new fence, I couldn’t tell they had been there because they cleaned up every bit of debris. KC called and came by a number of times to keep an eye on the progress, and was there when it was complete. He took me on a walk around the property to make sure I saw it all, and that I didn’t have any issues.
I could not be happier with the entire experience. My dog, however, is NOT pleased. She gives MC Fence a solid 4 paws down.

MC Fence was very professional. On the estimate I received from them, they came in below the other two competitors with better materials! I was also amazed at how quickly I was able to get on their books and how fast the installation was. I will use them for all of my commercial needs from here on out.

I had an absolutely outstanding experience with MC Fence! They installed approximately 320 feet of board-​on-​board cedar fence…6-feet high with decorative dips on each section (drops from 6′ to 5.5′ in the middle of each section). A total of three gates, as well. We could not be any more pleased with the experience and the work they performed. Part of the «run» had a fairly considerable drop in grade… the fence is amazing and far exceeds expectations. KC was our estimator and was also on-​site to supervise the job. He and his team in the office were responsive to courteous with my numerous follow-​up questions and requests for quotes on other options as we worked towards a final contract; through out, they were patient and not pushy. One of the reasons I was attracted to MC Fence is because they are locally-​owned and a family-​owned business. They ran their operation as I would if I owned a small business. Nothing but awesome things to say about my experience and the end product. Fence installed March 2016.

This is the third time we have used MC Fence and we cannot say enough good things about this company. We had KC come out and give us an estimate for removing one side of our fence and rebuilding it closer to our actual property line. This was board-​on-​board with a dip and gothic posts. The job was not as easy as it sounds because it involved boxing in a huge oak tree. We got the estimate the next day and work was able to be scheduled one week later (today). The crew arrived early this a.m. and was done by 2 p.m. What continues to amaze us about MC Fence is that they are committed to customer satisfaction. They build a product of exceptional quality that is right the first time and they do it without any drama. It is actually very interesting to watch how they go about their business. The crew is very methodical in their approach and they check and recheck before they start digging the posts to make sure all is correct. The crew members were very respectful of our property — being careful not to walk on perennials that had popped up from the ground and cleaning up after themselves. Except for the newness of the wood, you can hardly tell they have been here today. So, the bottomline is if you want to be 100% satisfied with your new fence and not have any anxiety in the process or after the fact: HIRE MC FENCE. Other companies would be well-​served to take lessons from this topnotch company.

We were very pleased with the work MC Fence did. They put up the fence quickly and professionally, and even did some extra work, rerouting a drain pipe under the fence and working with our neighbors to keep everyone happy. Highly recommended.

«They are horrible with estimates and giving you what you ask for. I had a guy named Billy come out and he told me I would get an email from him a few days later. Well, 12 days later I still hadn’t heard back so I called and spoke to Mike. He took my number and said they would contact Billy. A few hours later Mike called me back and left a message saying they were no longer doing deck work. Later that night I get an email from Billy that stated this:
Sorry for the delay I had to deal with some family emergencies. The total for the deck and fence is right around $ 19,500.00

I was a little confused, so I went to their Facebook page since it was now the weekend and I couldn’t find an email. I sent them a message and I never heard back from them. The Facebook message I wrote them is below:
I’m a little confused. Is this how you give estimates or is Billy just being lazy? I’ve never seen a company give an estimate like this, especially when spending $ 1000’s. Who spends $ 20,000 on a 1 sentence estimate? And it wasn’t even what I asked for! I asked him to give me a separate estimate for the fence and deck because I didn’t know if I wanted to do one or both right now. I also asked him to let me know the price of the deck using wood and Trex, so I can decide if Trex is worth the extra money to me. He didn’t do a single thing that I asked him.
And what in the world does the $ 19,500 even cover? A basic fence and wood deck? A fence and Trex deck? A fence and deck (made out of some material) and the patio that has to be removed and redone? Based on his email, how in the world am I supposed to know?
If he really did have a family emergency, someone from your company should have contacted me and anyone else expecting an estimate. I should be left hanging for 12 days and then be the one to call you. If this is how estimates are handled, how in the world am I supposed to trust you to actually do a good job and not leave me hanging on that?
If this isn’t how your company normally operates, I wanted to let you know about my experience so things can get fixed. If this is how your company operates, then no thank you. I don’t need this kind of headache with whoever I hire.
I never heard a word back from them! It’s really confusing to me that Mike would leave a message that they were getting out of the deck business, but then Billy give me an estimate that obviously includes a deck. All I know is the customer service is lacking big time.»

KC and Mike were both great. This is a family owned and operated business and they do not outsource labor. All workers were long-​term employees who receive benefits including worker’s comp.
My initial phone call was handled professionally by Amy and KC came out at the agreed upon time to walk the property with me and get info so that he could get me a quote. Within minutes of leaving our home, I received a follow-​up email from KC thanking me for the opportunity to come out and that he would email me a quote the following morning. The quote arrived as promised and we contracted them to replace our existing fence with a new one. We scheduled a date and the installation went without any problems. I would absolutely use them again.

From the moment we requested a quote, they were professional, friendly, and responsive. They were the first to give us a quote so they really set the bar from the beginning. No other company could come close to their estimate or service. During their visit for the estimate, they were very friendly as we discussed our families and what we wanted. They were sure to really listen to what we wanted and present many different options for us. They explained the different styles of fence, the pros and cons of each kind of wood we could use, and the height options. They also couldn’t be beat when it came to the price for removing some old fencing that needed to be removed before the new fence could be put in.
Each time we called, we were greeted by Melissa and she was an absolute dream to work with as she was organized and friendly. When they installed the fence, they were on time and perfectionists. They worked efficiently the entire day and the fence (we did a cedar flat board fence with 2 gates) looks amazing! We had them do a transition from 7′ in one area to 6′ for the rest and it is beautiful. We honestly couldn’t be happier with our new backyard fence.
We would eventually like to do a shorter fence in the front yard and when we do, we’ll be using them for sure! I highly recommend them and will use them for all our fencing needs!

Recently, a neighbor was kind enough to obtain quotes from various companies for fences for three adjacent homes. Once the quote was received from MC Fence and Deck, the neighbors then agreed to have the fences installed, we each went about contacting MC Fence and Deck to have the installation arranged. The first neighbor got the agreed upon price. When I called I was told the price of wood had gone up so they would not honor the price they provided a month earlier and it was now almost 25% higher ($ 1000). Since I was in a time crunch, I reluctantly agreed and had the installation. Fence is fine… standard wood fence (even though the workers left a mess).
About three weeks after the installation, I received a quote of $ 125 plus parts ($ 15 per spring) to install gate springs to keep the gates closed. When i wrote back to schedule the install (which should have cost $ 185), I was told that they could do the installation for $ 485. I advised them they literally just quoted me less than half that. I then followed with an email telling them that I don’t appreciate being treated like a sucker and a company should value its customers rather than try to take advantage of them. Of course, the rep for the company wanted to argue the point saying the price of springs had gone up… the service call prices varied… the crews usually charge more, etc… blah blah blah. The bottom line is they got caught obviously trying to take advantage of me (seriously… $ 485 to install four $ 15 dollar springs… a $ 400 profit…). Check reviews on this site for this company under their old address. Their business practices are shameful and adding insult to injury they tried to justify charging $ 485 to install 4 springs… that cannot be justified. AVOID.

Wish we could say that the experience was anything less than terrible. The communication was poor at best, the financing «promotion» we had been promised was non-​existent once the financing contract finally, the quality of work was subpar (it’s only been 3 months since the work was completed and we already have had one light go out and 2 boards break), and after 5 months we still have yet to receive the original plat supplied to the contractor after a multitude of requests. Unfortunately the entire experience was certainly less than ideal.

We had M&C put a deck on the back of our house. Beautiful Work. Love the end results. Work was scheduled in a reasonable amount of time and done within the time frame promised. What made us decide to use M&C was the gentlemen who designed our deck. Compared to other companies the experience with him was far more professional and reassuring. When he visited our home he drew the deck up right in front of us, and explained his reasoning. He gave us some direction, which we needed. He displayed great professionalism. Their prices start off high but then discounts are taken. We are considering using them again for a patio because now we know how they work. But we have some concerns which I’ll outline below and offer some advice based on our experience.
Here is why we don’t give them a 5. The professionalism starts to fall apart after you sign the contact. When spending the amount of money we did, we expect communication. Instead of getting into details here is a summary of our gripes.
1. Lack of communication
2. Make sure you call during business hours, we only ever had one voice mail message returned.
3. They offer financing, but they also offer a discount if you pay cash. However, if you use a credit card to pay (ya know to get the points on your credit card), there is a 3% processing fee. Which is mentioned in the fine print, admittedly I didn’t read.
4. They didn’t discuss the processing fee with me or tell me how much it would be. They just charged it.
5. Contractors smoked on the job — we cleaned up the cigarette butts
6. Clean up — unused materials left for weeks after job was completed.
7. They ask you to be present when the deck is started and when the deck is completed. We took the first day off, we were told the guys would be back to start. At some point during the day it was decided that no work would be completed the first day due to rain. No one told us. (It wasn’t raining where we were)
8. We have yet to have the complete walk through and sign off. No one called us concerning the completion of the work.
9. The end product is different than what was originally design. Not greatly, but worth mentioning.
I did call to discuss these items with them and they were nice about it. But communication did not improve. They did refund the credit card processing fee.

I had called up a couple of contractors to give me quotes for my vinyl fence. M.C. Fence was name given to me by one of my neighbors and was highly recommended. Mike came out to give me a quote, he was very knowledgable and answered all the questions I had. The price they quoted was unbeatable so I signed with them right away. They came through a couple of days later and installed my fence. The crew was excellent and quick, Mike was here as well to oversee the work which made me feel even more comfortable. I am very pleased with company and the work they did. I would recommend them to anyone.

Jeff gave us a quote at our previous home for a wood deck. Their quote was slightly higher than a competitor but they were able to beat that when I sent him the quote. Unfortunately we had to cancel it but after we moved to our next house a few months later I asked him to come out and give us an updated quote. He was able to match the previous quote which was very competitive. The guys started the deck on Monday and finished on Wednesday. It looks awesome and the handrails and stairs feel sturdy and good quality overall. I was at work during the day but my wife said they worked hard all day and were friendly. We highly recommend!

My neighbor had MC fence do their fence after a four contractor shoot out. I liked the job so much I had them replace my fence, a six foot privacy fence all around the back of my property. The quote was reasonable, so I had them proceed. Well the installation was great, tore down and removed the old fence, and installed the new one in one day. I’m very impressed, the installation was very well done and the clean up comprehensive. I highly recommend MC Fence.

M.C. Fence and Deck was so easy to work with from beginning to end! We received three quotes for our deck, and they matched the lowest price, and generously added a custom wood baby gate for us. Jeff was awesome to work with, and the entire process ran so easy and smooth. They started exactly when promised and finished 2 days early. We are very pleased and highly recommend them!
I wrote the above review based upon my experience with Jeff and the actual deck itself, but experiences since the completion of work have completely caused me to change my opinion of them, here’s why:
–We were so impressed with Jeff and the deck, that we recommended them to our neighbors for their fence and deck, and other neighbors used them as well. While they were working on our neighbors house, the crew hit our mailbox, knocked it down. No big deal they just needed to fix it! I spoke to the foreman onsite who said he would replace the mailbox for me that week. He never did. I called MC’s office numerous times and was told for over three weeks that someone would be out that week to replace it. I finally got a hold of Mike Caldwell, the owner, and asked if they could just send someone to replace the mailbox like they said they would. He basically laughed, told me it was ridiculous that I was even asking for it, and it’s not really his problem because it wasn’t one of his employees who hit it, just a contractor. I quickly reminded him that we spent $ 15,000 on a deck and I would think he would want to keep us happy. He was honestly one of the rudest and most flippant small business owners I have ever spoken to, but he agreed to send a crew out to fix the mailbox. Needless to say two months later, no one has still ever come.
–After that experience we spoke to our neighbors who used them as well, and they were all far less than impressed with the service they received, and each had their own individual issues they were trying to track them down to fix.
–Since we initially had a good experience I referred them to my mom who is building a new deck and patio. They had 2 different appointments scheduled, one of which was cancelled and the rescheduled one– no one showed up for. She called numerous times requesting them to come give a quote, but they never came.
So what started out as a great experience ended up crappy– over a $ 25 mailbox. They need to learn a little customer service goes a long way. If you expect a contractor to communicate with you and follow through with promises, this is NOT the company for you.

I had three companies who all have the same level of rating on Unilocal come out and do estimates. Of the three, M.C. was the highest, coming in at a whopping 51% higher than the lowest bidder. Beware if you are thinking about using them without getting other bids first.
I gave the other contractor who came in higher than the lowest bidder a chance to re-​bid, and he came in closer to reasonable. I chose not to reach about out to M.C. to ask them to re-​bid because they took over a week to get me a quote when I asked for it compared to next-​day for the other two companies and then the guy on the phone was pretty rude and defensive about how many ‘sides’ my fence had. He didn’t seem to understand that just because the two front pieces of the fence aren’t connected doesn’t make it a whole other side (that’s not how rectangles work).
Do not recommend wasting your time.

MC Fence just installed our fence this week and I am so pleased with the results. The wood fence looks beautiful and the installation team was top notch. We had great communication with the office staff, with quick responses to our emails and phone calls throughout the whole process. Because we started out not really knowing what we wanted, we went back and forth with them on several different types of fences — they were extremely patient as we continued to change our minds. Once we were settled on a design, they were able to do the install within the week. Their prices were competitive and I feel like we got outstanding value for our money. I highly recommend MC Fence and Deck — they are great!

I contacted them and we arranged a time that they would be able to come out and give me a proposal. K.C. was on time and answered any and all questions regarding the work and design. They quoted a fair price and were able to do the work relatively quickly.
The installation team (Manual and another) was fantastic. They worked hard on it all day long. I have a small dog and had concerns about the height from the ground around the gates. Granted, I was being overly cautious but they were willing to take the gate back off and lower the level of the fence, realign the tops, and reinstall the gate. I did that in two areas and they never complained that all. Also, they went back with spray paint and touched up every area of the fence that had aluminum showing. That illustrates to me the quality of work that’s considered acceptable by the company and the pride of the installation team.
I highly recommend this company; my experience with them from the time that I initiated contact via phone to installation of my fence has been pleasant and professional.
